This is really just about the ideal beach bar. It is located beyond the dunes, right on the beach, and you have a view of the sea. It also immediately has that beach vibe with a stretch tent and those weathered scaffolding wood furniture. So in that regard, just for the atmosphere alone, well, it is amazing to see. And then the staff—they are real stars! Very nice! There are plenty of people walking around. Some speak Dutch and others don't, but that actually makes it cozy. And they are super friendly when it comes to taking orders. There is very little waiting time between taking the order and it arriving at the table. And what you get is also well taken care of! We ate, among other things, wild mushroom croquettes, oysters, a burger, and a flatbread with mackerel on it. Everything was fantastically arranged. The prices are normal, as you find in the hospitality industry. And certainly at that location, you could say that it is low for what you get.

Have eaten there several times, and every time it exceeded expectations and was far above the level of the other beach bars on the island. The entrecôte tataki and scallops are especially highly recommended.

A nice snack bar on the beach, though often not very clean. The service is rather mediocre. However, the snacks themselves are all consistently good. It's great that it's located right on the beach.

It's supposedly open until 5 PM, but the last order is already at 4:45 PM. Even at 4:40 PM, people are already ignoring you.

The dinner menu is a little experimental but the apple tart is the best I have ever eaten in my whole life !! Seriously .

I have to revise the review below. It's now the end of 2025. This year, we've experienced that West Aan Zee, recently a 'beach restaurant,' has returned to its former glory. Feel free to try it out yourself! ------ Pavilion West Aan Zee isn't what it used to be. Except for the summer, we come to Terschelling for two or three weeks every season. We always eat at Pavilion West Aan Zee once or twice. In April 2023, everything was still as usual. Super-friendly staff, a relaxed atmosphere, and a mix of tables and low seating inside. The low seating had now almost entirely been replaced by tables. The drinks and menu menus on the tables have been replaced by an (optional) option to order via a QR code and an app. It seems like everything is geared towards generating as much revenue as possible. The male waitstaff was quite friendly, but the female waitresses were rude and unfriendly. Then there's the food. The prices are still as high as they used to be, even for dishes that explicitly state you get 100g of meat. We had the WaZ bread board as a starter. It's not really any different from the old days, but the smoked mackerel and smoked salmon were served ice cold. This doesn't enhance the flavor. The time between the starter and the main course was very long, longer than we're used to here. The Ladysteak, a 100g tournedos with green asparagus and truffle sauce, came with a single raw asparagus, a tough piece of lukewarm potato cake, a carrot, and a baby corn. The gravy had been next to the truffles. Two main courses came with a small container of standard fries. Previously, these were crispy dip fries. The ever-present fruit flies added extra meat to the drinks. A shame, it was such a nice place.

I think it's a nice place, but when I asked for a glass of wine 3 times the other day and nothing still came, I walked away. I ran into the employee who had taken the order and told her I was leaving because my order wasn't being brought. Her reaction was: "Fine, goodbye." 🤔🤔🤔 Ridiculous!

This is a prime location. What could possibly go wrong? Good food and even better seating. Wonderful!

The fries were very tasty, but the falafel burger was not good; it was fried for too long, and the bun was dipped in too much oil. It took quite a while for our order to arrive. The pitas looked much better; I would order those next time.

Nice beach bar. We arrived here after a walk through the dunes and enjoyed delicious coffee with a treat. It's great that there are high chairs available for small children 👍🏼 Very pleasant.

A weekend on Terschelling, in one word fantastic. A fine hotel, but West aan Zee topped it all off. Friendly service, top wines, and a kitchen to die for. If we return to the island, we will definitely come back. Eelco & Carolien (Voorschoten)

We went there a few times again this time for a nice cup of coffee; it was great. (Didn't eat) The apple pie is really delicious.😋 A big compliment to the friendly staff as well. 👍 We also had lunch in the meantime; as far as we're concerned, the cheeseburger is highly recommended. Prefer this to the heartbreak hotel cafe...just a little more upmarket with similar prices and good food..

Nice restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. We ordered oysters, a soup of the day (spinach), and a ham and cheese toastie, and they left us wanting more. Tip: in the back left of the restaurant, there is a lovely sheltered area where you can relax and chill out.

The service was very bad; we had to wait 30 minutes before we could even order drinks, but the food was super tasty.

What a disappointment... far too little staff, who were nice though. Because of this, we had to wait a very long time before we received the menu, drinks, and food. The food was very disappointing. The sea bream ceviche was so bland that we just added some salt ourselves. Also very pricey at almost 20 euros. Prices are steep anyway, at almost 9 euros for a small, yet tasty, brioche bun. The fish soup was tasty, but the fish was nowhere to be seen except for a few slivers of smoked eel. And if you also dare to charge 2.50 euros for a small carafe of tap water and present an inflated bill twice, then we would rather visit somewhere else next time 😎

Great service, nice beach bar. The portion of granola was relatively expensive though. 11.50 for a few spoonfuls of yogurt. So we won't be ordering that next time, but the rest of the food was top-notch!

No words can describe my utter disappointment. Well, after a day at the beach you're hungry and your sandwich is finished, so you go sit at a beach bar for a bit—at least it looked like a beach bar, WAS IT? IT WAS A TRENDY, ELITIAN CAFE (at least the menu said so). Okay. I order a 'Snickers date'—sounds tasty and for almost 4 euros! Criminal. And indeed, I get literally 1 STUFFED DATE; it was 1 DATE for 4 euros. I expected a bit more for that price. And I order a bitter lemon (5 euros) which just had to contain some kind of LAMB (extract or something, idc). What elitist bullshit, and the bitter lemon wasn't bitter, it was lemon. Sad. So you can probably imagine my utter disappointment (or not, your problem). That's why I'm never coming back.

A magical place on the edge of the Netherlands. So there's definitely something better than Groningen.

It is about the ambience, the friendly service and of course the sea view. I had a healthy vegetable soup.

I had lunch here on a scorching hot day when the restaurant was packed. Despite this, the service remained incredibly friendly and seemed relaxed. Respect! The food was delicious again, too.

We had to wait an hour before someone came to our table. Our order was taken, and then we had to wait another ten minutes only to be told that my drink wasn't possible. It was 30 degrees, so I was quite irritated by then.

Extremely inattentive service; the server ignored us for half an hour, avoided eye contact, and after we finally spoke to her, took another 10 minutes to take our order. The fries we ordered never arrived, and a drink appeared on the bill that we hadn't ordered or consumed. There was no apology at the register for this outrageous treatment.

We ate a delicious variety of fish dishes! Refined in taste. Tiger prawns delicious, actually all the fish dishes super! Very quick service, nice guys serving, very helpful! We had reservations about Japanese food but that was super fun and tasty!! Delicious wines to go with it .. homemade pastries tasty too! A lovely end to our holiday on Terschelling

The food was substandard. For example, the kibbeling was fried way too hard and cold. And during the night, one of our group threw up their food. Not recommended as far as I'm concerned.

The terrace was full, so we went to sit inside. The staff didn't see us, and the service turned out to be unfriendly.

When we entered, we were pleasantly surprised; it was very cozy and nicely decorated, and you have a view of the sea. However, after seeing the reviews, the food was a huge disappointment to us. The food was lukewarm and lacked flavor. The red port sauce with rosemary tasted more like peppercorn sauce. We couldn't taste any truffle or gorgonzola in the ravioli. I would never serve the vegetables like that in a restaurant; they came from one of those pre-cut bags, so they couldn't possibly have been fresh. The taste was truly pathetic too. The fries were almost like chips, they were so hard. All in all, no more than a meager 6.

We had dinner in the evening with a group of 8. The food was okay. I have rarely experienced such poor service quality. Avoiding customer service; looking at the ground while passing tables. After an hour, we finally got our drinks. The manager was particularly unfriendly; I couldn't get a menu when I asked for one at the bar. And the connecting door was locked, so I couldn't get to my daughter who was playing on the beach.

I asked a waitress, "What is the soup of the day?" I was told it was bell pepper and tomato soup. We were served the soup, and it was full of strands. The soup was not tasty. We asked the waitress, "Is this really tomato and bell pepper soup?" The waitress replied, "It could also be the asparagus soup from yesterday that you have." Scandalously bad! In the end, we ordered chicken nuggets for the 6 of us and paid a total of €98! A lot of money for 6 pieces of chicken nuggets per person. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Great food at this beach bar. Tasty cheeseburger with bacon. The vegetarians in our party also enjoyed their meal. The staff is friendly and the food was ready quickly, even though it was packed for lunch.

We stopped here spontaneously during our holiday bike ride. Beautiful view of the sea, and the quality of the food was a very pleasant surprise! The staff was also very friendly. Highly recommended!

After getting a nice breath of fresh air, a nice local beer (Brandaan), and then on the bike to West.

We went in for a bite to eat. Asked for a large glass with 2 cappuccino in it. Were served 2 separate cappuccinos. When we made a remark about it the waiter rudely told us it's the same thing and to not make a fuss about it. We paid and left.

During a weekend getaway, we stopped by here a few times for a snack and a drink. The service is quite cold and generally lacks cheerfulness and warmth. The food is very good, though, and the location is great (nice and quiet with good seating), but a smile and a more 'welcome feeling' would have been nicer :)

Kind of like a tapas share concept, small portions but regular prices, scallops tasty but so few of them, tenderloin really not good, dry, overcooked and not warm even though rare was requested. A shame because it is such a beautiful place.

Most beautiful beach hut on Terschelling

Just sat there for 30 minutes to order a drink. We spoke to a waitress twice to ask if we could order something. Both times we were told they would be with us in a minute. Very bad, don't go here if you want service.

I was on a school trip to the IJsselmeer, so it made sense to stay overnight on Terschelling. We arrived in the morning and were allowed to rent bicycles, then I cycled across the island with a friend and ended up in this nice café.

The new menu offers delicious, surprising dishes. Compliments to the new chef and owner!

Seated on the indoor benches with a rustic view of the surf, I and two friends enjoyed a very relaxing coffee/tea/cake session at West aan Zee. The atmosphere was very relaxing and definitely worth a visit.

Ordered a latte macchiato this morning; it cost 5 euros and was lukewarm to boot. You have to have some nerve to do that; you get ripped off right before your eyes.

This beach club is a beautiful building, constructed from natural materials. The interior and exterior are beautifully designed and blend seamlessly with the surroundings. The service is friendly and welcoming. Moreover, the food is excellent and definitely worth it.

We had a wonderful meal here yesterday with a group of 20 people. We walked through the wind and darkness to this beach bar heated by a fireplace. A glance at the menu reminds you of a French bistro rather than your average beach bar. Delicious food, generous portions, good service, and fast! We'll be back next year!

Great spot for a tasty beach-side lunch. Exactly what you're looking for in a place like this. We went for the bitterballen (Dutch meatballs) and mushroom croquettes, and they were simply excellent.

Wonderful, relaxed beach pavilion. If you want top-quality food, this is the place! Salade West aan Zee is a favorite. The staff is friendly and attentive. The beautiful surroundings and the view make this a fantastic spot on Terschelling.

Nice place, quick service. One tip for the restaurant: If you're pouring a €7.50 glass of wine (the Chardonnay was delicious, by the way!), put a little more than a dash in the glass. The ratio isn't quite right. I'm willing to pay that €7.50, but I do expect a little more than a dash in the glass. But hey, folks, it's definitely worth it, and definitely order that Chardonnay because it's delicious!

WHAT A SERVICE!!! We had a delicious meal last night in a cozy atmosphere. The service was very friendly. The price/quality ratio is excellent. The next day, we wanted to cook a three-course meal with our family. However, we realized we'd forgotten to buy an essential ingredient, but... the shops were already closed. We plucked up courage and called West aan Zee to see if they had anything in stock for us. "No problem, come and get it!" Our culinary evening was saved by West aan Zee. Superb service! Thank you so much! We'll be back.

A very cozy beach pavilion with plenty of comfortable seating. A good, extensive menu; we've had several delicious meals here. Friendly staff, and orders arrived quickly.

Very nice cozy place on the beautiful beach of Terschelling The food unfortunately was not great, the shrimps bisque was watery and had 2 - 3 shrimps in it. Bisque is a French, richly flavored soup, and should be creamy not watery. For the price paid we expected more.

Normally, it's really great. This time, we (and later those sitting next to us) asked for the famous apple pie and were then served a regular apple pie from the freezer. When I asked why this wasn't communicated beforehand, I was met with a nonchalant "I don't know" response. A little later, I saw the same thing happen next to us; they also received a half-frozen pie. Not nice. You should simply be honest and transparent about this, so people can decide for themselves whether they want this alternative.

We love going to the beach pavilion at West aan Zee. They usually have delicious apple pie—highly recommended. But unfortunately, not right now. They're currently serving apple pie from Holtkamp bakery. They tell us, with a straight face, that the pie is served at room temperature. Unfortunately, my piece seemed to have come straight from the freezer. Almost all my molars broke off. No luck this time.

Great beach bar on the North Sea beach. We enjoyed a few delicious meals there without feeling pressured to order.

My husband (Portuguese) and I (Dutch) had lunch here twice during our visit to Terschelling. Beautiful spot and delicious food. My husband was especially impressed with the espresso: the best he's ever had in the Netherlands. The chocolate fudge cake and hamburger are also highly recommended.

Super friendly staff, even for the loyal four-legged friend who comes along. The best mackerel sandwich I've ever had. The shrimp burger was also delicious. Fast service, good food, and lovely sunshine. What more could you ask for? If the terrace is full, walk to the back because there's a sort of grandstand terrace where you can relax on the cushions.

Beautiful location. Everything looks great. Unfortunately, the staff is too busy with each other. And a beach pavilion that doesn't serve sparkling iced tea, which is a bit of a shame.
