I have had a pleasant lunch here several times, and I am actually always very satisfied with the lunch. The food is tasty, and the restaurant itself is cozy and atmospheric. There are also all kinds of fun games you can take out of the cupboard, which creates a nice and relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately, we had a very different experience with dinner. The service was very slow and chaotic. We had to wait about an hour for our starter, and in total, we spent about three hours in the restaurant. At one point, we went to the bar ourselves to order our dessert. If we hadn't done that, we probably would have had to wait much longer. We also had to ask for our second drink ourselves after two hours. The food itself was fine, but not exceptional. The burger was unfortunately very dry, while the salad was tasty. The homemade spreads with the bread were, however, very tasty. What was particularly disappointing was the lack of organization in the service. For instance, we were asked several times if we had already ordered, even multiple times by the same waitress. Combined with the long waiting times, this really took the atmosphere out of the evening for us. Incidentally, the staff themselves were not friendly or welcoming either. There wasn't a smile to be seen and no clear enjoyment of their work. And it actually felt as if they didn't even want to be there. (This refers to the waitresses) By the way, the owner himself is a nice, likeable man. You can have a pleasant chat with him at lunch. And at dinner, he is busy in the kitchen. But he certainly has a passion for the business.

We had a really good meal, regional products, all homemade, no pre-made food. Add to that regional beers, a cozy and unique atmosphere, friendly people, and really fair prices. So, we'll definitely be back when we're in Dokkum again...

You will rarely find an establishment where the owner himself stands at the stove — and it is felt in every dish! The soup is simply incredible: rich, aromatic, perfectly balanced in taste. You can see the sincere love for his work.

We had a delicious meal yesterday. What incredibly sweet people. Very warm, cordial, but above all, very cozy. It was warm outside and there was no room for a moment, but I was so glad about that afterwards because we were sitting comfortably in front of a fan. The food was truly delicious. More than enough. Sita came over regularly to chat. Afterwards, we had a nightcap outside. Enjoying the beautiful view. Durk and Sita, keep up the good work.🤎 We will definitely be back.❤️🤍💙

*read to the end* We arrived and couldn't even sit on the outdoor terrace. A waitress came to our table in her work clothes, as if she had been in a flower shop. The fan was constantly blowing full in our faces. But... we were glad we didn't have to sit in the full sun in that scorching heat. A fan in our faces was truly delightful. And the lady in question had indeed just come out of her own flower shop, so "people work hard." The wine was good, the food tasted delicious, and the portions were more than sufficient. I skipped dessert because I was full from the bread, burger, and fries. There was a pot of questions on the table. Normally, I can't last an hour in a restaurant. As I type this, we have already been sitting there for 2.5 hours. The restaurant has a nice, homey atmosphere. So, highly recommended!

After eating here, I was dissatisfied that my holiday euros were spent on this. Unfortunately, I realize that after posting this review, I will be lynched online by the owner. So, I’ll just go Robin Hood and bring the truth to the public. The atmosphere was a bit chaotic with a touch of dullness. Kudos for the combination of games and food. But no respect for the unbalanced outcome. While the games are very fun, the food, on the other hand, is far inferior. Greetings, and kisses to the lovely town of Dokkum <3

The ordered satay burger was very dry; my wife's dish had a few pieces of fish in it, and that in a FISH meal. The Hawaiian skewer was fine. The staff was also friendly.

Undoubtedly the best restaurant in Friesland! The food was fantastic and clearly homemade with love. The five stars are therefore more than well-deserved! 😍 The service was amazing and the staff incredibly friendly. Together with the warm, cozy atmosphere, this made for the perfect evening. The name Grill Restaurant raises expectations.... It was busy, turnaround time slightly longer. Service was just about adequate, and so was the food. More of a casual eatery!

Nice, cozy and homely restaurant.

We had a wonderful meal last weekend. It has a very homey atmosphere. There's a cupboard in the back with loads of games. We had a pub quiz on the table, and we had some really fun conversations based on the questions. Durk and Aukje are both very welcoming. Dogs are welcome. It's really great! There's also a menu for dogs. Our dog didn't come with us, but I did buy her some treats. If we ever go to Dokkum again, we'll definitely be back!

Had a wonderful meal with the family on Sunday. The mixed grill and schnitzels were tender, with delicious vegetables and salad. The service was friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth repeating.

The food was delicious and well-made. Only the portions were a bit disappointing. But maybe it was also due to the price, which was also reasonable. The taste and quality deserve compliments. There's plenty of specialty beer to choose from; a beer wall to choose from is a nice idea, but if you're not in a good position, you'd prefer them on a drinks menu. The atmosphere was good, the service excellent, and there were plenty of games in stock.

The food was delicious, the meat was truly wonderful, and the sauce? Probably a chef's secret, but very tasty. The wait was a bit long, but it was definitely worth it. Definitely worth it.

The food is of excellent quality, with a wide selection at a reasonable price. The waitress does a fantastic job.

The two of us had a lovely meal here. The price-quality ratio is excellent. For 33 euros, we had a three-course dinner with generous portions. The service is friendly, and the drinks menu is very varied. The dishes are served very hot, which is great. Some minor issues: the chair was a bit crooked and sagging, we initially received the wrong starter, and we don't think gender-neutral restrooms are necessary. Otherwise, a great place!

Lovely setting and the staff are definitely helpful. We had a delicious schnitzel, and it delivers what the menu promises: simply good. However, it was so hot inside that we were constantly sweating. The air conditioning was broken and there weren't many windows for ventilation. A beautiful building with a characteristic facade. I made a pen and ink drawing. Almost at the end of the Eleven Cities bike tour, and I enjoyed it!

We had a wonderful meal at Gewoan op 'e dyk in Dokkum! Exactly as the menu says: simply a delicious plate full of flavorful food without any fuss. That's exactly what you get. We both had the mushroom stew as a starter and the veal steak with brie. The latter could have been a bit less well-done (for me), but perhaps I should have specified that when ordering (they often ask how you want it cooked, and that wasn't the case). Delicious side dishes, just the right amount. The cheesecake with ice cream and the warm apple pie were both also delicious. Comfortable, just as you'd expect. Friendly host/chef and waitress, welcoming and very casual, cozy. The building is beautiful and situated nicely on the water, and comfortably furnished.

Our meal that evening was simply terrible; we definitely won't be back. We reserved a table in advance but forgot to note it down. We ordered appetizers but forgot to serve them. We ordered a mixed grill for two—it didn't deserve the name.

A great location and a very dedicated team, with a long beer list (although the ones we wanted were unfortunately no longer available). The food was only partially convincing, particularly the French fries and the rather tough veal, which were less than satisfactory, in contrast to the very good tomato soup.

We had a lovely meal in the evening sun! The veal steak was deliciously tender, the only thing missing was a bit of gravy😉 the salad was also good as were the accompanying fries and red cabbage. For us a positive point if the dog is also welcome!

That anyone still wants to eat with these people. Only leave debts behind and do not stand behind their product. And the owner has strange hobbies. I would not introduce him to my child Stop how many people have been cheated by you and still. Not paying staff not paying people who do something for you but compensating them with food. That also the nice promo video of durk on the internet and himself explained to his staff that a complaint has been filed against him. Not fake news at all. They were not thrown out of the house in Sweden by the family for nothing. And when the teenager comes there they tell others to go back to the basement.. Do not pretend bigger than you do parents of staff have to collect the salary and then say the tax must still be deducted from net salary. Stop cheating. But that is difficult for you...

A lovely restaurant on the canal in Dokkum. A paradise for board game lovers. Dinner is served until 9 p.m., which was fine since we were arriving late. Friendly staff. The food was good and the portions were generous. There's a wide vegan selection.

The food was absolutely worthless and we reported this. Durk claimed that he makes everything himself. That is possible, but that does not mean that you can cook well. The mushroom sauce looked awful and tasted like paper pulp, the steak skewer was overcooked and tough. Both were not warm. The pitiful pile of lettuce had been thrown on the plate. The fries and apple sauce were good. Durk was wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt, both faded and washed. When we entered, we had our doubts but we did not want to prejudge. In a corner were new rolls of wallpaper, a dog basket and there were spiders on the ceiling. It was a mess. The criticism we gave, Durk did not understand. We do not understand what the rating "best restaurant 2023/2024 in North-East Friesland" is based on. For Durk's telling response, go to the business's website.

Good no nonsense restaurant with a cheerful owner who only wants 1 thing for his customers, good food for a fair price. And if you stay for dinner afterwards there are a few hundred games in the back to keep the Kids or your wife and mother-in-law busy.

Family business. Insider tip. No fast food. Everything is fresh and homemade, even the fries! Salad, vegetables, soup. The chef cooks here himself, with passion. If you like delicious home-cooked meals and have some time to spare, this is the place for you. We come here again and again and always enjoy it. The photo shows a bread plank for two with a mini soup of the day. Absolutely delicious.

Very atmospheric restaurant. Bread with spreads was perfect, but the small glass of soup was lukewarm/cold and not tasty. We had a mixed grill for 2 people. According to the menu, this was a dish with 3 types of meat. We got 2 skewers and a piece of salmon. This was not mentioned when ordering. If you don't like fish and you only have 2 skewers, this is not generous. The meat was ok, but in combination with raw vegetables, carrots and fries we think € 49.95 for this dish is a lot. Also for the 2 types of meat instead of 3. We did not report this in the restaurant because everything was full and the only lady who was there was already very busy.

Service en entourage zijn oke, maar de porties ronduit benedenmaats. We hadden de mixed grill voor 4 personen (voor 90! euro) maar deze was qua hoeveelheid net toereikend voor twee personen. Redenatie van de kok: we doen een hoofdgerecht per persoon, voor een tweepersoons schotel krijg je drie gerechten. (Ofwel, als u met vier of meer bent; bestel dan twee keer de tweepersoons. Krijg je meer voor minder geld

Just plain bad. Meat was tough and the sauce was indefinable. Waited a long time for our food and drinks, it would be better to hire some older staff. And finally the house dog at your table. If we had known this in advance we would not have gone. They also don't understand at all how they got this Google figure. I think there are a lot of fake people out there.
