You have to eat here at least once in your life. Italian food like the Italians eat at home. The food is immediately after preparation from the kitchen by 3 employees on your plate. It is excellent the ingredients super fresh and tasty.

The food is sublime. A bit too salty for me personally, especially the side dishes. Nothing wrong with that at all for the rest. Gio the owner comes to your table and asks you to choose between tenderloin, lamb chops or seafood and whether you have any allergies. Then you are asked for Ravoili or pasta. This is how it should be done. But you don't know what the menu looks like because there is no card. After this excellent tasting treat, people ask what you want for dessert without mentioning that this is not part of the menu. This dessert was also delicious, but you have to pay extra for it, so keep this in mind. You will only see this when you ask for the bill. Working without a menu and not looking at a notice board or website with prices for drinks and food is not legally permitted at all. In principle, they can ask for whatever they want...I think it is the staff's job to point out that dessert is not part of the menu, but this is omitted and that causes irritation...a pity, otherwise the food is excellent!

Fantastic. I can't understand the bad reviews. I am a fan of Italian cuisine (not a pizzeria - restaurant!) and have rarely eaten better in Italy. An Italian restaurant in the classic sense. On our wedding day we drove an extra 2 hours to Maastricht to eat at Gio's. We wouldn't be disappointed. Favorite Italian!

Wow, what a GREAT meal I had there! They give you a few options to choose from (fish meat etc) and the rest is a surprise. I loved it. I will go here more often!

Hier op aanraden van een zakelijke relatie neergestreken. Bij binnenkomst zat het restaurant compleet vol, de eigenaar kwam langs om de bestelling, geen kaart en beperkte keuze voor het voor- en hoofdgerecht. Vis, Vlees of Vega en dan begint het feest. Alle gerechten worden aan tafel bereid en uitgeserveerd en de een nog smakelijker dan de ander en dat alles onder het genot van een lekkere witte wijn. Na de 4e gang mag de huisgemaakte Tiramisu met koffie natuurlijk niet ontbreken. Kortom een echte aanrader en vergeet niet te reserveren. Ennnn leg je telefoon niet op tafel want de dames in de bediening zijn streng, en “dwingen” je deze op te bergen dus je moet wel praten met je tafelpartner 😉

Friendly staff and delicious pizza

Gio is al jaren een begrip voor weekend gasten in maastricht. Geen menu kaart en prijzen vooraf maar wel heerlijk Italiaans voor hoofd en nagerecht . Als je er vaker komt is het wel altijd hetzelfde met de kwartel eitjes en sperzieboontjes . Prijs is wel fors te noemen paar jaar geleden at je er voor 25 euro op nu is de rekening met zijn 2en snel 175 euro .

Chosen on recommendation, but in retrospect we should have ignored it. After a dinner with our family, we were unpleasantly surprised at the end with what we felt was far too high a bill compared to what we ate. Reasonable food in itself, but certainly not special, let alone culinary. Unfortunately, there is no menu or price indication (you eat what is on the menu that day), but when you pay, it turns out that you have to pay more than €70 for a 4-course menu, which we ourselves paid approx. 40,-/45,- (various standard Italian cruditées/antipasti; a simple pasta as primo piatto, seafood as the main (the garnish was not imaginative or tasty prepared/very salty) and tiramisu for dessert/dolci), it turns out to be far too expensive compared to culinary Italian restaurants elsewhere in Maastricht or the surrounding area. Really "overpriced". Not for us again.

Beste Italiaan die ik ken, we wonen op Mallorca maar komen zeker 1x per jaar hier eten en we zijn nog nooit teleurgesteld worden! Top eten en vriendelijke bediening, je kunt er niet reserveren, maar als je een beetje vroeg komt, krijg je meestal wel een tafel. Gio en team, bedankt voor jullie gastvrijheid en lekkere eten altijd!

Expensive and overrated restaurant. Food, especially side dishes, is way too salty. Portions very small. The concept seems nice, but it's just an assembly line. The menu has been the same for years and so have the side dishes!. The chocolates with coffee in a piece of paper are no longer possible for this price.

NO APTO PARA TURISTAS No importa lo buena que sea la comida si no te sientes bienvenido. Hablan mal de los estadounidenses o de cualquiera que no sea local justo en frente de ti. Si estás de acuerdo con ser intimidado por el personal, este lugar es para ti.

We werden op t terras geweigerd omdat ons hondje, klein maltezer leeuwtje in haar hondenkar, niet mee mocht. Dat je als restaurant honden binnen weigert snap ik, maar op t terras en dan ook nog in de kar. Sorry Gio's, we hebben vaak genoten bij jullie maar dat is verleden tijd.

Ate during Rieu's concert, were not at all impressed with the food. Service was good and friendly.

Wonderful Italian experience and service. Here you can choose from fish, meat or vegetarian and get all kinds of dishes. They serve you from large plates that they pass to each table. Cozy atmosphere and very friendly staff.

Mooi restaurant, fijne sfeer, leuk dat de kok komt vertellen welke menu keuzes hij heeft. Erg lekker gegeten en super vriendelijke bediening. Maastricht is een beetje uit de buurt, da’s in dit geval ook weer heel jammer ..

As mentioned here a few times: the food is fantastic with lots of fresh ingredients (no menu, just choose what the chef suggests), the atmosphere is relaxed and enthusiastic, but then the bill comes and then it's... the atmosphere is gone. Almost 170 euros for 2 people is left over for a warm-up + pasta + tenderloin supplemented with 1 glass of wine and 1 coffee per person. We felt a bit betrayed afterwards.

A somewhat bitter aftertaste after an actually delicious dinner. We had a great evening and a delicious meal. The menu contains a lot of vegetables (which we thought was a plus), high-quality fresh and good food packed with flavor. Atmospheric ambiance and an authentic concept. Before receiving the bill, this concept (no menu, little explanation, no prices) is still innovative and fun. However, the prices are so high that we were left bewildered. Received a bill of €184 for 2x menu (1 of which was vegetarian), 4 glasses of red wine (no idea which), 1 bottle of water and 1 grappa. All this on a handwritten scrap that is impossible to decipher. And if I can believe the other reviews, there are often inaccuracies. Too bad for such a good and cozy restaurant. All in all, a rather pretentious affair for the money.

Surrender to the typical Italian way of doing things in a restaurant: no menu or wine list, busy, music. But delicious food, delicious wine and a great atmosphere!

Wij proberen hier elk jaar tijdens een weekend weg te eten. Reserveren kan schijnbaar niet maar mijn moeder reserveert toch elk jaar weer. Eten is echt heerlijk en ziet er prachtig uit maar is dan ook niet goedkoop. De chef komt je vertellen waar uit te kiezen. Bediening laat te wensen over, voor dat geld zou meer interactie leuk zijn. Na het hoofdgerecht komt er niks meer. Wel handig als men dat komt vertellen of misschien vraagt of je nog koffie o.i.d. wil. De oudere dame die je naar tafel begeleidt en met wie je afrekent is echt NIET vriendelijk/gastvrij. Wij komen voor het eten maar vinden de bediening net zo belangrijk. En het is erg jammer dat dat zo tegenvalt.

Not welcome; we didn't get a table because our dog is too big, a border collie, and is very quiet. At the same time there was someone sitting on the terrace with a barking small dog, which was allowed. That seems a bit hypocritical.

Perfekter Abend auf der Freiterrasse bei einem Rieu -Konzert ! Schmackhaftes, üppiges 3-Gang-Menue und sehr leckere , gut temperierte Weine von einem jungen Serviceteam sehr aufmerksam serviert. DANKE und weiter so !

Een gebakken ei als hoofd gerecht omdat je vegetarisch bent..armoede en fantasieloos..niet voor herhaling vatbaar!

Je kan hier heerlijk eten en het is echt een ervaring. Het concept zonder menu en dat alles aan tafel uitgeserveerd werd is leuk en de smaken zijn echt goed. Reserveren kan door even te bellen. Tip: check de rekening wel goed. Je krijgt een geschreven bon vol afkortingen waardoor het lastig ontcijferen is wat er precies op staat. Bij navraag bleek er in ons geval 2 witte wijn en een fles water te veel op te staan.

Heerlijk gegeten met vrienden bij Gio's. Bijzondere formula, met relatief weinig keus, maar wel heel Italiaans: antipasti, primo, secundo, dolce. Personeel lijkt echt Italiaans; weinig woorden, prima service. Mooi pand aan het Vrijthof, fraai ingericht.

We didnt know this before we decided to eat here but they don't have a menu for you to choose from (you can only pick between meat and fish dishes) and they bring you a set amount of courses. Food was very delicious but it was too much for us quantity-wise. That's why we thought it was a shame we couldn't decide more actively what to order. It was also relatively expensive.

Gio's is the place to be in Maastricht for authentic Italian cuisine with a super ambiance and top service.
