Be careful when ordering the steak! The menu lists 400 grams for €15.50, but when you order, they ask how many grams you want. The minimum is 400 grams, but the price turns out to be €15.50 per 100 grams. That is how we suddenly received a bill of €56 for the côte de boeuf.

Nice atmosphere. Food was excellent. Timing of the dishes was rather asynchronous. Servers should definitely practice looking around more.

REALLY a good restaurant possibly the best I‘ve been in Amsterdam! The Steak was amazing and all the food we had (a lot) was really really good. The wine was also good The service was really cool and very simpatic. They really know what they are doing and know every dish by hearth

Everything was amazing! It's incredible how they fused different flavors and created such a cohesive experience. I loved how the watermelon completely changed the way the meal tasted and felt. The service is great and so is the vibe but the food is not that great.

THAT WAS REALLY AMAZING! I’m still dreaming about their famous kubaneh which was delicious. People are nice and sweet, the place is wonderfully beautiful but a bit loud due to the influence.

We had lunch here as a couple on a weekday, with a reservation. We were seated immediately with no waiting time. We chose the terrace, and at around 2:00 PM it was pleasantly shaded, which made it very comfortable. The food was absolutely delicious, and the wine was excellent. They also have an impressive and extensive wine list with plenty of great options to choose from. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience, and I would definitely recommend Gitane to anyone looking for outstanding food and wine.

Great food, great atmosphere... and affordable! The second time I ate there, everything was wonderful except the dessert, but that's ok, maybe just my taste. And the servers are very nice but they need to be more alert - it was often hard to get their attention. Waiting tables means you look around you every single time you walk between the tables! We will definitely be back!

Came here for brunch as was visiting Amsterdam for a few days and it didn’t disappoint! The food was amazing - so fresh and the presentation was second to none. Considering this is a Michelin stew restaurant the price was very good - would defo recommend!

Food is excellent and service is friendly and customer-oriented. However, the restrooms really need an upgrade! They don't smell fresh and the floor is wet all the time because there is no proper drying facility. It is a real letdown when you eat so well and are served so kindly.

We came with a reservation. Left after 20minutes of no one talking to us or even approaching us to take an order. Amazingly bad service.

The food was absolutely amazing. Steak tartar was one of the best I’ve ever had. It was very busy when we arrived, and took a few minutes to get sat despite our reservation but once we placed our order the food came out very well timed. We ordered 6 plates for two people and it was the perfect amount.

Mediocre flavors, small portions—even the main courses are like appetizers. Unacceptable treatment of a solo traveler—even with half the restaurant empty, they wouldn’t give me a regular table. I went there alone a little after 9 p.m. They told me they were fully booked, even though it was already late and half the restaurant was empty. When I left at 10, even more tables had become available... I felt like I wasn’t welcome. I wouldn’t recommend it for solo travelers.

I am always in favor of sharing feedback with the staff on the spot, but the staff must also provide the space for it and show interest in your experience in the first place. We waited for a while while a terrace table was being prepared for our reservation. Then we waited over 15 minutes before the waitstaff came to the table to ask us if “we were ready.” My friend asked if he could keep a menu, to which the response was “I’ll bring it back when you want to see it again”—very illogical. We had ordered two café lattes that were really boiling hot. The waitstaff who brought the coffee warned that the glass (coffee is served in a kind of water glass) is very hot, but in terms of taste experience, it is also not pleasant when milk is heated that much. I pointed this out and we received two new coffees, which were placed down by the waitstaff with slight irritation. The food was very mediocre; the burger was fine, but my BBQ pointed cabbage was not tasty. Only the outer layer had flavor, and after that, it was mostly raw pointed cabbage. We eventually got up to pay, whereupon the waitstaff asked “all good,” and while my friend started sharing his experience, the waitstaff immediately replied “top.” After hearing our feedback about the coffee, we were told “yes, that’s why you got two new ones” and “in 3 years, we have never had a complaint about the temperature of the coffee in the glass.” Hospitality is something else entirely; he came across as extremely uninterested and arrogant.

Lovely evening, last minute, lovely place and staff and atmosphere. Food was delicious.. excellent fun!

Celebrated a birthday here and it was perfect. Laid back atmosphere with friendly staff who talked through the menu. The plates look beautiful and taate even better. Great wine selection too

The location was lovely, outside but covered in case of rain and on a quiet side road. The service was friendly and also really bad. Forgot drinks order, slow, delivered the wrong order. The food quality was okay but not great.

Super popular place but the service is what makes it. I would really recommend this place and their creative dishes particularly the goat tostada, the entrecôte, and buratta dish paired with berry compote.

Gitane, a charming restaurant with elegant interiors, had a moderate noise level. However, the staff’s listening skills were lacking. We requested some steaks to be cooked well-done and others medium-rare, but we ended up with rare meat. We had to seek out a waiter to cook them more thoroughly and even went up to the counter to request another cook and additional salt and pepper. It’s disheartening to encounter such poor service in a highly regarded neighborhood of the city. Despite the service issues, we had a delightful dining experience. The cote de boeuf, politiki, and broccoli were all delicious. The chef’s culinary skills were truly impressive.

Had a lovely, relaxed weeknight dinner here with a friend. Lovely atmosphere, simple and cozy without being overdone. The food was good and well-presented, although some dishes were standout and others were ok. I’d recommend the sardines to start and the catfish. The aubergine was fine but lacked some flavour. The pork was exceptional. And the Politiki (cabbage salad) was a good, lighter accompaniment to our other dishes than fries. I had to pick out the raisins but that was easily done. The matcha tiramisu was tasty but I’d order the walnut cake the next time. It was lighter than I’d expected and the saffron ice cream was delicious.

Last Friday, we had a wonderful evening at Gitane. The atmosphere was stylish and inviting, the dishes were of an exceptionally high standard, and everything was prepared and presented with great care and attention to detail. A special compliment goes to Jules, who looked after our table. He provided excellent service and, in particular, gave outstanding recommendations from the wine list. Thanks to his knowledge and enthusiasm, the wine pairings elevated the entire dining experience. He was welcoming, professional, and struck the perfect balance between attentiveness and discretion. One small point of feedback: in the bustle of organizing the tables, the owner sometimes seemed to forget that there were guests in the restaurant. On several occasions, he called out to the staff in a rather loud voice, which occasionally disrupted the calm and refined atmosphere. This, however, does not take away from the quality of the food or the excellent table service, but a slightly quieter presence on the floor would make the overall experience even better. All in all, it was a fantastic evening, and we will certainly be returning.

Definitely worth a visit if you like good food. Everything we tried was amazing. The place and the atmosphere were great. We were not that lucky with service but I wouldn’t say it’s a general issue. Our table was not properly prepared when we arrived and the waitress forgot to add two dishes in our order. We also had to wait some time to get the food menu but the place was packed. Overall a great culinary experience, would highly recommend.

We have been a number of times now, and had a delicious meal every time. Everything I have eaten is so flavorful. Friendly staff and fast service. The restaurant also looks beautiful and atmospheric.

Last weekend, we had dinner at Gitane. Having been awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide for offering high-quality cuisine at exceptional value, it had been on my list for quite some time. The restobar serves a globally inspired, Mediterranean-style sharing menu, complemented by an excellent selection of natural wines. Although we usually drink red wine, the warm weather made us consider something lighter. A staff member recommended the Aymon Rouge, which is served slightly chilled, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. As a group of three, we shared several dishes, including the burrata, crudo, leek, pointed cabbage, aubergine souvlaki, and sea bass. For the main course, we enjoyed the 400-gram cod with kubaneh bread, alongside fries and broccoli. To finish, we chose the carrot dessert, which delivered a wonderful combination of flavours. The interior feels warm and inviting, while the staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable throughout the evening. I would highly recommend Gitane to anyone looking for creative Mediterranean-inspired cuisine made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Best of the best! Always fantastic food, friendly people, amazing atmosphere, nice music, good vibes, I love it and come here often! I like there is always enough of vegetarian food in the menu and they update menu from time to time so never bored from eating the same. Highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner!

Had lunch @ this restaurant today, really doesn’t meet up to Michelin 2025 expectations. Cleanliness is average, food is average, price is expensive, service was poor, we waited for 30min for our food.

The food was incredible. The dining experience did not start out great. The hostess could not find our reservation even though I had multiple confirmation emails. We were placed at a few different tables before we finally had a table. The hostess kept promising drinks on the house but that never happened. We did not need the free drinks, but if it is offered there should be follow through. The overall service was below average to average. The staff seemed unorganized, a little drunk, and not expereienced in fine dining. I would definitely reccommend the restaurant for the food. The tartare and ribeye were stand out dishes.

Atmosphere - prety cozy. Very nice interior. Food - portions are small and can't say that anything we've tried stood out apart from aubergine souflaki (pretty delicious). Combinations really looked intersting on the paper but once you taste it, things just didn't match, either due to lack of spices or the fact that the tastes didn't elevate eachother. Service - very nice personnel, pretty assertive. However, as soon as we've realised that we are not up for a desert, we were approached by personnel that there is another reservation coming in 10 minutes despite being half way through the glass of wine. This really left a bad impression.

I had a poor experience here. I booked a reservation for dinner weeks in advance, but they didn't have a table for me until 30 minutes after my reserved time. And then it was a tiny "table" in the bar area with bar stools - it was the only table in the restaurant without proper seats. I asked if we could just wait even longer for the next available real table, but they said no. Weird, but I didn't push it. When I sat at the bar table, all of the other groups waiting on their reservations to be ready (there were a lot of them) were standing in the bar area and touching shoulders with me. It was very uncomfortable. I didn't get a drink until 45 minutes after my reserved time. The staff noticed that we were upset and offered to move us to a real table when one came available and give us a free dessert, which I did really appreciate. But I had to remind them about both of these promises, which wasn't a big deal but it was annoying on top of everything else. We didn't get to a real table to order food until *an hour* after my reserved time. I did like the food overall, but I didn't think it was worth the hassle. The burrata and kubaneh were good, but the pork collar came out cold and the walnut cake dessert was both dry and had too much creams. The whole experience definitely soured my Friday night in Amsterdam. They overbooked and had many other groups also upset that their tables weren't ready. I definitely wouldn't trust this place for a special occasion dinner again.

Good food but completely overcrowded with service unable to manage way too many tables, reservations, massive crowding in restaurant… overall experience does not match price point. Complete chaos. Our reservation was pushed forward with 15 mins, had to wait about 30 mins for our table with reservation, waited another 30 mins to get a menu and our glasses of wine… Will never go back.

We haven't eaten this well in a long time. Refreshing combinations of flavors. We don't often return to the same place, but we will definitely be back here again! Absolutely beautiful! My partner and I were travelling to Amsterdam and Gitane was by far our favourite restaurant we went to! The meals were delicious and the ambience was so relaxing. Definitely a must try and will definitely be back next time! 5 stars!!!

Possibly the best meal I’ve eaten in Amsterdam. The food was surprising but the flavors were perfect, the price was fair and everything else from the wine to the service, ambiance was smashing too. Wandered in on a whim, turned out to be the right place. Intrigued, would come back for more.

Chanced upon this lovely eatery which is Michelin recommended. Dropped in for a snack and a drink at around 3.30pm. We ordered the Shellfish which came is a delivery delicious gravy. The hummus was the best I've ever had.

Literally one of the best meals I have ever had. Unpretentious yet elevated. We started with the charcuterie and eggplant. Incredible. We then had the duck with artichoke. One of the coziest in Amsterdam, if you’re up for good food, couple of glasses of wine and a warm chat then this is the place.

Im very surprised this is a Michelin guide restaurant (2025) as I believe that the food and service were not a match for this label. The server recommends 2-3 dishes per person when we are 4 at a table, and although the portions aren't the biggest less food would have been more than enough. It seems that they are trying to be innovative in their food propositions but the flavors remain dull and the dishes underwhelming. We ordered duck that came out cold and when we told the waitress we were told "you should have said so before". Usually, if a customer speaks up, needs should be met and not contradicted. This is not said with arrogance, but this is unfortunately below the standards that could be set by a Michelin restaurant. The prices were also definitely higher for the quality and there was too much salt in most of the dishes. I will not be going again which is a shame because at first sight, the restaurant does have a very charming and welcoming atmosphere.

Was there on a Saturday night, quite busy as expected. The food option was not very wide if you’re a meat lover. We both really love the Crudo🤌🏻 MVP for tonight, the rest was alright, nothing too surprising nor disappointing. The Matcha Tiramisu, though, took quite a while to arrive and the ladyfinger part legit tastes like cookies😭 The service is top, nothing to complain about. Ambience is perfect for a dinner date. Cozy, warm, just the right amount of buzzy. We were placed at the table behind the bar, not the most comfy one to be frank. Overall, a pleasant night. I might return later if the menu changes.

Two shifts in one evening isn't exactly relaxing, but you know what you're getting into. It's certainly not ideal if the second shift starts at 8:30 PM and the last round is announced at 9:15 PM because the kitchen is closing. I could have 10 more reasons to explain why this is unusual. But you can fill in the blanks yourself with what you'd think if you were asked that question yourself after you'd just finished your first beer and hadn't eaten a single bite. Keep the kitchen open longer or let guests start earlier. It creates an extremely unpleasant and stressful atmosphere, as if you have to leave. You also start to wonder if you should suddenly order more food in a hurry without even wanting to. I know where to find these kinds of restaurants when I'm looking for them, and I usually end up going to one with a big yellow M above the door.

Very rude manager, the lunch menu is limited, portions are small and nothing stands out. The mayo we received for our fries tasted like vinegar, the Shakshouka dish is more like a combination of turkish eggs with sour tasting tomato paste. I would go somewhere else when in Amsterdam than to this restaurant.

An amazing experience! The food was extremely delicious and such a pleasure to share with friends! Massive props to the service, especially Noor, who went out of her/their way to check every food option for allergens my partner has! Professional, friendly, fast, thank you Noor! Also the Duck and the Chutney (on the cheese platter) are soooooo good!!

I am quite surprised this is a Michelin guide restaurant to be honest, the food is OK, but there are much better restaurants in Amsterdam. The menu is also very small and without consistency. However, this is not my main critique of the restaurant, we found the restaurant manager to be very rude and unhelpful which left a sour taste after what was supposed to be a celebratory dinner of 12 people. Firstly, we had booked for 12, but once arriving only had seating for 6, after adding an extra table we managed to squeeze the 11 of us that attended the dinner. Secondly, we were charged 2.75 EACH for water. I have never seen this Thirdly, the manager deducted 1/12th of our down payment because 1 person out of 12 didn’t show up. I found this very petty. He then told us he’d add it back on if it meant we would leave soon. Overall it was very rushed, sub par, and spoilt by a rude restaurant manager. Please also explain to me how we can buy three portions of fries and have 3 different tasting mayo’s. One thing I would like to note is the floor staff were very attentive, and they deserve credit for this. They weren’t at fault. Overall would NOT recommend (try Kaia instead it is much much better)

The Michelin star should be taken away. The waiter spilled sauces on us, the music wasn't played properly and was loud, and the bill was astronomical. A bottle of wine worth €6 was resold for €57.

We came here for a date night dinner after some people had mentioned this place to us. After reading some reviews we thought it would be a great local spot to try. The ambiance is very cute and very laid back, you can come here for girls night or date night, it’s really suited to either. The food was good with some plates being a hit while others delivered more on aesthetics and plating- over flavor. I rate it a 4 because it was good but nothing to write home about. Amsterdam has become a hyped up foodie paradise but it’s always worth reflecting if the place is average, good or truly special. That being said, service was good with nothing to complain but equally nothing that sticks out.

Will I dream about their takoyaki? Yes, give me 20 of those. Cozy ambience, friendly service, and flavourful food. Pricey, but worth the quality of the food. The tartare was so unctious with balanced textures, the burrata had interesting flavour combos, the steak was deliciously tender and buttery, and the chocolate dessert with mushroom! and sourdough icecream was a lovely end to the meal.

Gitane is in the Michelin Guide for a reason – it has good food and a proper wine list. You can also enjoy a wide selection of tap beers and cocktails; non-alcoholic options are there as well. It’s a great place for meeting friends, but for some other purposes I find it too loud – too many tables are packed into the space, which makes staying there for long uncomfortable. The tostada is my favourite among the starters, the duck was a good option from the mains, and the steak tartare has a crunchy texture, which is nice, but the meat is cut into pieces that are a bit too small. Definitely book in advance – it doesn’t look like a place for walk-ins in the evening. The dish sizes are not big, which is justified by the sharing concept.

A beautiful place with fantastic food, especially the côte de boeuf! My boyfriend was really craving a whiskey sour, and even though it wasn't on the cocktail menu, they were happy to make one for him. I think it was one of the best whiskey sours he's ever had!

As a local resident, I love this restaurant. The wine list is excellent, and they make excellent cocktails. The same goes for the food: generous portions with a pleasant Greek influence. My Greek partner and I would happily come here for lunch or dinner every week :)

The experience was almost fantastic! We received a warm welcome, the service was excellent, and the food was fantastic. What completely ruined the experience for me was when, at the end, we were still eating our dessert, the bill arrived. Moments later, we had to pay. However, we were still within our reserved time and had almost finished dessert. I felt it was a shame that such a wonderful evening had to end this way.

What an incredible meal! Dutch food with a Mediterranean twist. Served family style, so you get to plan your own tasting menu. Highly recommended. We took out hosts out as a thank you and it was the best meal of our trip.

I've been to this place multiple times. Once for Christmas and now for a birthday. All the dishes are designed for sharing. Very tasty food, lovely staff. It's not very expensive and it gives you a homie feeling everytime you enter. I felt very comfortable in this place.

I've had the best shakshouka since years here, a perfect blend of tastes, and later — a great, well balanced burger. The interior, the coffee and general experience were top! And the price still friendly!! We loved it.

The food was so delicious, we really enjoyed the steak, the deep fried cauliflower with basil mayo really complimented each other well. Service was really fast and they were really friendly. Totally would come back again for everything.
