We had a wonderful evening. We received a warm welcome from the staff. They recommended delicious wines. Good value for money. Many vegetarian options. We will definitely be back.

Possibly the best meal I’ve eaten in Amsterdam. The food was surprising but the flavors were perfect, the price was fair and everything else from the wine to the service, ambiance was smashing too. Wandered in on a whim, turned out to be the right place. Intrigued, would come back for more.

Chanced upon this lovely eatery which is Michelin recommended. Dropped in for a snack and a drink at around 3.30pm. We ordered the Shellfish which came is a delivery delicious gravy. The hummus was the best I've ever had.

Literally one of the best meals I have ever had. Unpretentious yet elevated. We started with the charcuterie and eggplant. Incredible. We then had the duck with artichoke. I nearly cried it was so delicious. The sourdough ice cream to finish was divine. Don't miss this place if you are in Amsterdam!!

One of the coziest in Amsterdam, if you’re up for good food, couple of glasses of wine and a warm chat then this is the place.

Im very surprised this is a Michelin guide restaurant (2025) as I believe that the food and service were not a match for this label. The server recommends 2-3 dishes per person when we are 4 at a table, and although the portions aren't the biggest less food would have been more than enough. It seems that they are trying to be innovative in their food propositions but the flavors remain dull and the dishes underwhelming. We ordered duck that came out cold and when we told the waitress we were told "you should have said so before". Usually, if a customer speaks up, needs should be met and not contradicted. This is not said with arrogance, but this is unfortunately below the standards that could be set by a Michelin restaurant. The prices were also definitely higher for the quality and there was too much salt in most of the dishes. I will not be going again which is a shame because at first sight, the restaurant does have a very charming and welcoming atmosphere.

Was there on a Saturday night, quite busy as expected. The food option was not very wide if you’re a meat lover. We both really love the Crudo🤌🏻 MVP for tonight, the rest was alright, nothing too surprising nor disappointing. The Matcha Tiramisu, though, took quite a while to arrive and the ladyfinger part legit tastes like cookies😭 The service is top, nothing to complain about. Ambience is perfect for a dinner date. Cozy, warm, just the right amount of buzzy. We were placed at the table behind the bar, not the most comfy one to be frank. Overall, a pleasant night. I might return later if the menu changes.

Two shifts in one evening isn't exactly relaxing, but you know what you're getting into. It's certainly not ideal if the second shift starts at 8:30 PM and the last round is announced at 9:15 PM because the kitchen is closing. I could have 10 more reasons to explain why this is unusual. But you can fill in the blanks yourself with what you'd think if you were asked that question yourself after you'd just finished your first beer and hadn't eaten a single bite. Keep the kitchen open longer or let guests start earlier. It creates an extremely unpleasant and stressful atmosphere, as if you have to leave. You also start to wonder if you should suddenly order more food in a hurry without even wanting to. I know where to find these kinds of restaurants when I'm looking for them, and I usually end up going to one with a big yellow M above the door.

An amazing experience! The food was extremely delicious and such a pleasure to share with friends! Massive props to the service, especially Noor, who went out of her/their way to check every food option for allergens my partner has! Professional, friendly, fast, thank you Noor! Also the Duck and the Chutney (on the cheese platter) are soooooo good!!

I am quite surprised this is a Michelin guide restaurant to be honest, the food is OK, but there are much better restaurants in Amsterdam. The menu is also very small and without consistency. However, this is not my main critique of the restaurant, we found the restaurant manager to be very rude and unhelpful which left a sour taste after what was supposed to be a celebratory dinner of 12 people. Firstly, we had booked for 12, but once arriving only had seating for 6, after adding an extra table we managed to squeeze the 11 of us that attended the dinner. Secondly, we were charged 2.75 EACH for water. I have never seen this Thirdly, the manager deducted 1/12th of our down payment because 1 person out of 12 didn’t show up. I found this very petty. He then told us he’d add it back on if it meant we would leave soon. Overall it was very rushed, sub par, and spoilt by a rude restaurant manager. Please also explain to me how we can buy three portions of fries and have 3 different tasting mayo’s. One thing I would like to note is the floor staff were very attentive, and they deserve credit for this. They weren’t at fault. Overall would NOT recommend (try Kaia instead it is much much better)

Very rude manager, the lunch menu is limited, portions are small and nothing stands out. The mayo we received for our fries tasted like vinegar, the Shakshouka dish is more like a combination of turkish eggs with sour tasting tomato paste. I would go somewhere else when in Amsterdam than to this restaurant.

The Michelin star should be taken away. The waiter spilled sauces on us, the music wasn't played properly and was loud, and the bill was astronomical. A bottle of wine worth €6 was resold for €57.

The food was great, however the management was not that great, with dkme issues with the deposit. Do communivate with the manager before going.

We came here for a date night dinner after some people had mentioned this place to us. After reading some reviews we thought it would be a great local spot to try. The ambiance is very cute and very laid back, you can come here for girls night or date night, it’s really suited to either. The food was good with some plates being a hit while others delivered more on aesthetics and plating- over flavor. I rate it a 4 because it was good but nothing to write home about. Amsterdam has become a hyped up foodie paradise but it’s always worth reflecting if the place is average, good or truly special. That being said, service was good with nothing to complain but equally nothing that sticks out.

Will I dream about their takoyaki? Yes, give me 20 of those. Cozy ambience, friendly service, and flavourful food. Pricey, but worth the quality of the food. The tartare was so unctious with balanced textures, the burrata had interesting flavour combos, the steak was deliciously tender and buttery, and the chocolate dessert with mushroom! and sourdough icecream was a lovely end to the meal.

Gitane is in the Michelin Guide for a reason – it has good food and a proper wine list. You can also enjoy a wide selection of tap beers and cocktails; non-alcoholic options are there as well. It’s a great place for meeting friends, but for some other purposes I find it too loud – too many tables are packed into the space, which makes staying there for long uncomfortable. The tostada is my favourite among the starters, the duck was a good option from the mains, and the steak tartare has a crunchy texture, which is nice, but the meat is cut into pieces that are a bit too small. Definitely book in advance – it doesn’t look like a place for walk-ins in the evening. The dish sizes are not big, which is justified by the sharing concept.

Had a perfect diner. Food and wine were amazing and also very friendly waiters. Would definitely recommend.

As a local resident, I love this restaurant. The wine list is excellent, and they make excellent cocktails. The same goes for the food: generous portions with a pleasant Greek influence. My Greek partner and I would happily come here for lunch or dinner every week :)

A beautiful place with fantastic food, especially the côte de boeuf! My boyfriend was really craving a whiskey sour, and even though it wasn't on the cocktail menu, they were happy to make one for him. I think it was one of the best whiskey sours he's ever had!

The experience was almost fantastic! We received a warm welcome, the service was excellent, and the food was fantastic. What completely ruined the experience for me was when, at the end, we were still eating our dessert, the bill arrived. Moments later, we had to pay. However, we were still within our reserved time and had almost finished dessert. I felt it was a shame that such a wonderful evening had to end this way.

Food was great - particularly the cote de boeuf. We took nibbles not starters. Wine easy significantly over priced.

What an incredible meal! Dutch food with a Mediterranean twist. Served family style, so you get to plan your own tasting menu. Highly recommended. We took out hosts out as a thank you and it was the best meal of our trip.

I've been to this place multiple times. Once for Christmas and now for a birthday. All the dishes are designed for sharing. Very tasty food, lovely staff. It's not very expensive and it gives you a homie feeling everytime you enter. I felt very comfortable in this place.

The food was so delicious, we really enjoyed the steak, the deep fried cauliflower with basil mayo really complimented each other well. Service was really fast and they were really friendly. Totally would come back again for everything.

I've had the best shakshouka since years here, a perfect blend of tastes, and later — a great, well balanced burger. The interior, the coffee and general experience were top! And the price still friendly!! We loved it.

Had to spend the night in Amsterdam because of a missed connection at Schipol. Looked online for a restaurant reco and found this little gem. For the appetizers we had... • Sourdough bread • Crudités • Kubaneh And for the main... • Burrata • Seatrout • Baby Gems • Cauliflower Nuggets EVERYTHING was absolutely fantastic! Fresh, creative, and bursting with flavours! Service was on par, very friendly, attentive and dedicated. And the place itself, very pretty and cosy! A sure bet in the lively Amsterdam Old West!

Overall a great evening! The food was amazing, the service was excellent and the restaurant had a modern ambiance. At the risk of sounding lame I would say Gitane had 'cool vibes' in a nice area of Amsterdam. As it was out of the city centre it didn't feel that touristy, so we also felt like we were eating with the locals and therefore getting a more authentic experience. Would go back if ever I am in Amsterdam again.

Ordered Nibbles; paella is on the menu, but it was a small bowl of mussels. A bit expensive for too small portions. I don't expect large portions at Nibbles Er, but these were very small.

My second time here and I have enjoyed both times. Every dish was delicious and perfect for sharing, we have tried a bit of everything I feel like. The vibe is nice and the lady who was serving us was very sweet. Food came out fast too. The only thing I don’t like at places like this: small wine glasses. But overall it’s a great spot.

We really loved how the plates were small so we were able to share and try many things on the menu! However, we were more impressed with the interior and the ambiance, the design was super modern yet cozy, perfect spot for a date night or a girls night out🥰🥰 It was pretty busy so would recommend to reserve in advance!

Very creative menu and delicious food! Almost everything we ordered were perfectly cooked and seasoned with their own touch. I’d totally recommend trying the beef tartare, cauliflower nuggets, seatrout, lamb, dry aged steak (worth the price), and matcha tiramisu. They also have very good cocktails like dirty martini, Negroni, g&t. The old fashioned was just so so. Crème brûlée was very creative but for us it was a hit and miss tbh. Service was friendly and attentive. Price is usual Amsterdam level I’d say. All and all we had a good time here! Would visit again.

A very pleasant evening with good food, but unfortunately, the service was less than stellar this evening. We had booked a table for Friday. Things got off to a bit of a slow start, but ultimately we had a pleasant and delicious evening. The food is very good; it's a nice menu with surprising combinations, and each dish is truly delicious. The fact that the takoyaki arrives lukewarm rather than hot is compensated by the flavors. The steak tartare is surprising and has a lovely sweetness thanks to the pickled mango, and the lamb rump is truly exquisite thanks to the accompanying romesco with macadamia nuts. Very good! This gives it all the potential for a fantastic review, except that the service was unfortunately truly subpar. We weren't greeted or spoken to upon arrival, and it took 10 minutes before we were shown to our table. We ordered table water, but it wasn't brought, and we had to ask again. We ordered a bottle of wine, which was then taken away. A candle on the table went out, and we had to ask twice for a new one. A dish was incorrectly passed to the kitchen, and there were no napkins on the table. These are minor things, but the sum total shows that the service isn't as good as the food. Such a shame.

They offered us a discount for our next visit, but I don't think there will be a next visit because: 1) the napkin they gave us was dirty. What made it even worse was that the waiter said it wasn’t dirty, just an oil stain 🤷🏻‍♂️ 2) we booked a table for three, but the reserved table was only for two, so we had to hug each other to fit :) 3) we booked a table outside, where there was a lot of noise 4) one of the starters was too salty 5) didn’t like the saffron in the cream brûlée 6) didnt like the pistachio in the bread@butter. The waiter was rude and unfriendly when we complained about the difficulties we have. The only good thing was cote de boeuf. Overall, we paid €140 for a terrible dinner experience last week. Edit: the response from the owner is a proof of their unprofessional manner. They even offered a discount not to post here. We were very kind but rightfully complained about dirty napkin with oil strain. If you want to have an unhygienic experience go ahead..

This place is wonderful! The atmosphere, the vibe, and the service are really great. The wine menu was lovely and delicious food! The goat tostada was one of the best bites I've had! Really creative dishes.

Really good cocktails and steak was amazing! Desserts could do with some refinement

This restaurant is located on the outskirts of Amsterdam, and is undoubtedly one of the best we've tried so far. There were three of us, and we tried everything! Starters, hot and cold dishes, sides, desserts, and sodas. It's a tapas-style restaurant, so it's nice to share several dishes. I particularly recommend the lamb and the fig leaf soda. Being French, it's still more expensive than in France, but the prices are reasonable for Amsterdam, and the quality is excellent.

Overall, the place is nice, but the food is only adequate. Dim lighting, lots of trendy people, and reservations are required. The menu is a mix of Mediterranean dishes, including olives (good), bread (expensive but tasty), burrata (cold and flavorless), but also baba ganoush, fried cabbage, and simple speck. The wine list could be improved, the service is excellent, and the prices are fair. In short, you can choose, but it's difficult to get it right.

We had a dinner for two and I loved what the menu had to offer: vegetarian, vegan, and options for meat lovers as well. We enjoyed a selection of 8 dishes, and every single one was delicious. For me, the tofu crème brûlée was the big winner!

Probably my favorite restaurant in Amsterdam West! We come back once or twice a month, and every single dish and cocktail has an incredible balance of flavors. It’s not a “cheap” place, but it’s absolutely worth it and still affordable for the quality and service they offer. Highly recommended!

The atmosphere is good: pleasantly busy, open, and informal. The wines we tasted were all fantastic, but the dishes were mixed. The flavors were excellent, but we found the rosefish crudo a bit tough, and the leek was a bit too raw for my liking, though my dinner companion was a fan. I was a bit disappointed with the eggplant, while the sea trout and the tofu crème brûlée were very good. All in all, it was a pleasant evening, but the expectations raised by the positive reviews regarding the food weren't quite met.

We were there the other night; the food took over 1hr to arrive and the waiter just forgot to order 2/3 dishes. Never got a “sorry “ out of the waiters and left hungry. Food was okay-ish. UPD: the restaurant responded with “we hoped you said something in the restaurant” - what a poor example of customer service. What makes you think I didn’t? The waiter simply shrugged and moved on. Disappointing.

Gitane was on my list of restaurants to visit for quiet some time and I was very excited to go to this buzzing location. unfortunately service was so bad throughout the night, we left very disappointed. I think they have a problem with the was they are working, because the servers were constantly lost and confused despite (seemingly) not understaffed. first, while waiting to be seated, despite seeing me, location manager catered 2 other groups that came after me, which was frustrating but not a major issue. then after sitting 10 mins (havent had even got the menus) a server put two plates of of mains in front of us, an obvious mistake. then she had to pick them up in front us, and take it to another table (while not touched, it's not the best) then our starters came which were nice. after the starters, we waited for our mains for 1 hour (our allocated timeslot was 1 hour 45 mins on reservation.) in the meantime, we reminded we were missing starters 3 times, and for the 2 of them the questions "what had you ordered" instead of checking the system. when the mains came out, it was already after our allocated timeslot, so we didnt even feel like the pressure of having a dessert or a coffee rushed. of the 4 dishes we had, we really liked one (the goat meat), two were nice (leak and stake tartare), and one was very bad (the eggplant- the quality of the eggplant was so bad (full of seeds) it had a bitter taste). for such a cool, nice location, it was just disappointing. I hope they fix their system so they can survive.

The food was fine, but the whole “small plates to share” concept is just a gimmick to charge more. You’re told to order minimum 3 dishes per person (excl dessert), but portions are small and priced 15€ each. It ends up costing 50€ per person without ever feeling like a proper meal. The service was friendly and fast, but the reminder about our time limit and asking if we wanted to order more ruined the “fine dining” vibe that’s being sold. Overall, it felt more pretentious than enjoyable which is now unfortunately the norm for Amsterdam restaurants.

I had the pleasure of enjoying both a dinner and a brunch here, and I cannot recommend it enough. The food, service, and atmosphere are all outstanding, but what really sets this place apart is the creativity and passion behind it. What an experience!

My family went to dinner at Gitane for an early birthday celebration for my mother a few weeks ago and had a wonderful meal and lovely evening! The service was great, the restaurant was beautiful, had a lovely atmosphere, and was in a lovely area, and the food was all incredible and very unique (would recommend the burrata, cod, and côte de boeuf especially). The drinks (we had both wine and cocktails) were very good as well. The bill was not nearly as high as it could have been, and we were very pleased with the quality of the food for the price. The only thing that disappointed us were the desserts, which were not the strong suit. The selection of desserts was fairly small and not very diverse (all similar textures...). We had the matcha tiramisu and the vegan creme brûlée. The creme brûlée was not the typically correct texture that one enjoys and was instead quite soupy and mushy (like the tofu had been blended) and had a very rich and unusual taste. The matcha tiramisu was very strongly matcha flavored, but had far too much matcha cream on top compared to the ladyfinger cookies on the bottom, which were not soft and actually very hard and crunchy (not soaked through). Overall, I would highly recommend Gitane for any occasion, for both the food and vibe, and would simply advise perhaps opting for dessert somewhere else afterward, unless what I've described sounds to your taste! Also, a last note-- there are many options for both vegans and vegetarians, which is amazing!

What an amazing evening we had . From the drinks , to the appetizers to the main courses. Elevated food with creative ideas, absolutely delicious ingredients and even food that I’ve known and even make at home, still surprised me !!! Please make a reservation though!!!! Worth the effort .

Gitane offers a short but delicious menu for both lunch and dinner, plus *really* good cocktails and a nice selection of wines. It has a cozy atmosphere, tables both inside and outside, perfect place for a chat. Food is great: I’m hooked on the steak tartar (knife cut!), aubergines, burrata… All great - in two people, you can order and share 3-4 dishes and it’s enough. Recommended!

Hidden gem in the neighbourhood. Had a reservation for 4 people + baby in strollers. Ask for terrace table to fit strollers, inside is bit crowded. Amazing staff and food! The meat and matcha tiramisu❤️

I don’t write many reviews but this restaurant definitely deserves the recognition of one of the best restaurants in amsterdam. I walked in on a busy Saturday night with no booking and the staff was happy to make room for me. The service was warm, professional and cohesive — rare in amsterdam. The food was very creative and tasty — the beef tartare was excellent, and I enjoyed the lamb and yogurt a lot. Great choice for the humble prices. The place itself has a vibrant atmosphere but can also get a bit loud :) Highly recommend!

Incredible food in a casual, cool yet refined atmosphere! Always with an unexpected little twist elevating the already delicious ingredients to the highest level. Cannot recommend enough! The chefs also always make sure that there are vegan and vegetarian options which is lovely.

10/10, Will definitely be back! Lovely staff, amazing food, and very good quality for the price. It’s perfect for a date, or for a nice dinner with friends or family. A must in Amsterdam for sure
