Grand Café Fanfare in Giethoorn

Grand Cafe Fanfare is a popular eatery with a few vegan options. I got the vegan burger which was rather ‘meaty’ hahaha with a Moving Mountain Patty. Nice view of whimsical houses and boat rides. Giethoorn is a popular tourist attraction known for being a car-free village, and also for the movie Fanfare. However, there aren’t many vegan options in this village. Grateful that this eatery did offer several choices! My non-veg companion enjoyed their food too.

I do not recommend it. I ordered a chicken burger and vegetable pasta, which was less than average.

We only had drinks, milkshakes, and hot chocolate. Neither of them tasted good. All service and payment was via app. We didn't tip in advance. We wouldn't go again.

The outdoor seating is lovely, and the food was absolutely delicious. We had the Croque Madame Fanfare, Oeuf Benedictine, and Truffle Fries with Parmesan cheese. The restrooms were very clean.

The two vegan dishes—the veggie burger and avocado salad—were beautifully balanced in flavor, and the meatless patty was incredibly flavorful and satisfying 🍔🥗

During our boat trip through Giethoorn, we stopped at the Grand Café Fanfare for a break – and it was just the right choice! The food was delicious, the atmosphere relaxed, and the café offers a really nice place to sit and take a breather. The staff was friendly and attentive – we felt completely at home. A definite recommendation for anyone looking for a delicious and pleasant break in Giethoorn!

This restaurant was truly a pleasant surprise on this trip! The environment is comfortable, the service is friendly, and the dishes are amazing. A good shop that I would be willing to visit again and even recommend to friends. This dining experience was very pleasant and I give it five stars without hesitation!

Basically all the restaurants here have a great environment. This is no exception. The food tastes good too, and there are many vegetarian options. The service is good, just like any other restaurant.

Dagje Giethoorn met rondvaart, geluncht bij de Fanfare vriendelijke bediening en zie de foto’s mooie volle borden en de smaak niets mis mee! Daar na konden we mee met rondvaart waar nog plaats was, al met al positief gevoel bij de Fanfare 👌

20250414 Came to the restaurant next to Giethoorn to have Chinese food. The main course was grilled trout, right? I guess! It's quite big and delicious. It doesn't have any fishy smell. Highly recommended.

I'd avoid. Bought coffee and when being seated in a place under the tent because of the rain, lady with the scarf from cahier moved the chairs to the rain and said that's how it should be. Supposed to sit in the rain?? Bit silly customer service. Anyway, coffee and snacks are much cheaper in the Museum after few buildings with a better service.

I am forced to give one star because it is not possible to give less. This café thrives on tourism because it is clear that people don't return twice. The owner is a truly unpleasant and rude person, and the quality-price ratio of the food is terrible. My advice is to go to another place which, alas, in Giethoorn will be equally touristy but at least you'll be treated politely.

Still fun, but this time no peanut shells on the floor. Everything swept...

I ordered the lemon pepper shrimp, and the taste was balanced between spicy and refreshing. • Truffle fries? A luxurious side dish with a rich truffle flavour, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. • The avocado salad was very fresh, topped with peas (which I ate with pride!). Conclusion: A place worth experiencing in all its details - from the service, atmosphere, food and even the plants above the food! I would recommend it to anyone visiting Githron, especially for a nice dinner on the banks of the canal.

Relaxing in the sun by the water! The nachos with pulled pork were really delicious, very well served with delicious cocktails/iced coffee. It's a good place to stay and the atmosphere and service are very good!

Een van de beroemdste terrasjes van het land in het door toeristen overspoelde Giethoorn. Het is hier heerlijk zitten en de menukaart is zeer uitgebreid. Prijzen zijn gezien de locatie best redelijk en de porties en vooral de kwaliteit zijn meer dan behoorlijk. Prima plek om te genieten van een hapje en een drankje .

The atmosphere is very nice, the place is very enjoyable. There is a separate playground for children. There was also a large area at the back for events, meetings and special invitations. If you sit outside, you have a direct view of the canal edge. It is Giethorn's first restaurant. Therefore, its historical texture can also be felt. Just because the number of employees is very small, the service can be quite slow, especially if the restaurant is crowded. Let's talk about the food, everything I ate was delicious and delicious. But for example, I've had better carpaccio. When you make such an analysis, the price is a little higher than Dutch standards, but it is not an exaggeration. But everything else was really satisfying in terms of taste. Beverage and beer options are abundant. There are even different recommended wines for each dish, which is a very nice touch. We enjoyed it very much. We definitely recommend it. Will go again. Since there is no vehicle access inside Giethorn, you have to leave your car in the center and walk. There is no parking nearby.

The food is delicious in general. I advise you to take very delicious parmesan potatoes, sweet rib-eye steak for those who love grease, and the meat burgers taste like the old days of youth. I do not advise you to eat pasta. The young man, Mazen, is a nice Arab and will help you and serve you in the restaurant

When we sat down we asked about the menu and dishes and they just pointed to a QR code on the table. You order and pay on an app, that's fine I guess. They then tried to bring us the wrong drink order not once but twice, each time I reminded the server of what our actual drink order was. Then they tried bringing is the wrong food order, reminded them again of the drinks. Got our food and again reminded about the drinks as we still never got them. Ate our entire meal and I finally had to go inside to the bar and ask about our drinks which at that point I got them and carried them to the table myself. Food was average. Not sure how you screw up drink and food orders that much when you order from an app and the table is numbered, literally all they have to do is make the food and bring it to the table number.

The food was good. The trout was tasty. Not too dry.

Today we sat there with 4 people with the intention of having something to eat. Only the question whether we wanted to order something to drink took more than 10 minutes and we then asked for the menu ourselves. Service never came back to take the order and even a raised hand was not answered after more than 20 minutes of waiting. The staff could mainly complain that they were so tired, not a smile or a kind word could be said. So we finally decided, after waiting more than 30 minutes to order, pay for the drinks and leave and we scored a delicious sandwich at the Plus supermarket.

Absolutely delicious food we ate. Kids loved the menu. We ordered pasta and prawns with olives. Both are absolutely out of this world.

Good food but the dinner dishes (specifically the Beef bourguignon) were really not sufficient in quantity for the price. Both for me and my wife.

Ignored when walking in. Not brought a menu, just a receipt with a qr code to scan. Put on a dirty table we had to clean ourselves. Stairs only to get into the restaurant - good luck if you’re in a wheelchair! Ordered chips with our food and they didn’t bring them. You have to pay for sauce. Silly.

The restaurant has good, excellent service, but there is an annoying smell. The food is okay, but the most delicious thing they have is amazing hot chocolate.

On December 31, 2024, we couldn't find a place to rent a boat in winter. We placed an order for a boat rental and reserved a time slot through the Giethoorn official website. The address appeared and we came to this restaurant to pick up the boat. Interestingly, the person who helped drive the boat from a distance was a man in a chef's uniform. There is a sticky route map on the boat. You can choose different route locations depending on the length of rental time. If it is cloudy and rainy and windy like us in winter, in fact, 1 hour of experience is enough. It is a test of the human body's tolerance in low temperatures. In fact, we sailed for less than 60 minutes and returned the boat in about 50 minutes. When we returned the boat, we had to moor the boat, tie the boat up, and then report it to the restaurant staff. The restaurant is next to a small canal, and you can use the restaurant's restroom for free before and after renting a boat (some restaurant restrooms in Europe also require an additional fee, but this one is free of charge). If the boss serves meals during a popular period, you will have to wait for him, but overall, they don't seem to calculate the time very accurately (maybe winter is not the peak season?). The overall experience is great, but it is true that you need to wear more clothes~

We hebben genoten van het kerstdiner op 2e Kerstdag. Het was er vol, maar wel gezellig. Het kerstdiner menu was een leuk concept met een keuze voor het hoofdgerecht. Het werd allemaal leuk geserveerd en vriendelijke bediening. We hebben het gezellig gehad en lekker gegeten. Koffie met lekkernijen na genomen, deze waren wel behoorlijk aan de prijs en we hadden de zoetigheden lang niet allemaal op... Jammer alleen dat er een extra bedrag voor de saus bij de hertenbiefstuk op de rekening stond, terwijl deze volgens het menu inclusief was. Al met al hebben we een fijne avond gehad!

1 star is actually way too much for them. From arrival it is clear that they have very little to do with good service. They are slow, absolutely do not want to help you, do not bring what you ask for. They charge money for everything, even 1 small container of ketchup per person costs 80 cents.

Nice cafe. Normally I don't like to write a critical review, but yesterday I received something that was undercooked for the second time. Oliebollen with liquid dough on the inside. The second attempt was overcooked on the outside and not fluffy on the inside. Possibly the oil temperature is too high. The bulbs were collected in bags by customers, but they made no move to stop production after it turned out that things had gone wrong twice. I previously ordered bitterballen there, quite expensive and frozen on the inside. The second attempt, the bitterballen were overcooked on the outside. The temperature control of the fryer may be incorrect. Unfortunately I won't be going there again.

Nice to be in De Fanfare for a while. Film recorded in 1958. It turned out to be a nice film. The atmosphere has been preserved and Restaurant De Fanfare is quite authentic.

For a little break, we stopped for a drink in this bar. The welcome was warm and welcoming. The originality is that you can eat whole peanuts there, and throw the shell on the ground without scruples 😉.

I had reserved a day out via email for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. The welcome was extremely friendly. We went shooting eggs. Very fun to do. Then we had a boat trip with a guide who told us a lot about Giethoorn. The high tea was phenomenal. One lactose and gluten-free version was needed and that was very well taken care of. That's quite unique. Then we went blowpipe shooting. Also very fun to do. The staff was very friendly and helpful, everything well organized and a very nice location. Highly recommended for a day out!

Toffe ervaring in de bistro. We waren heel aangenaam verrast, het eten was hier super. De bediening super vriendelijk en heel behulpzaam. Als je binnen komt is het even raar opkijken, de parketvloer ligt vol met de omhulsels van pindanoten. Gezellige bediening en overal is wel iets te zien. We waren met 4 volwassenen en een kind van 6, iedereen was het eens dat de verschillende schotels zeer goed waren. De kinderburger is van goede kwaliteit, niet zo eentje uit een frituur, top.

Very bad! Rented boat online via the local platform, then referred it to this restaurant. The handover of the boat alone was unprofessional, and the boat was not fully charged. And all of this with a small child. Covering about a quarter of the route explained by the guide with almost zero power is a borderline experience! Actually not worth a single point. I will spare everyone further explanation. The idea is great, but the execution is simply poor. When driving, check the battery and the appropriate options if the drive fails.

Een gezellige zaak. Maar… hoedt u voor de vegaburger. Deze rook bedorven en smaakte chemisch. We hebben ‘m laten staan. Minpunten: uitdrukkelijk 1 x frietjes a € 3,50 besteld en later op de factuur € 6,00. Dooie vliegen in de vensterbank.

I thought it was very expensive: brie sandwich, 11 euros; fries mayo, 4.35... Sorry, but those are really Amsterdam center prices: ridiculously expensive. Service was top notch, I must say. Very good, professional and friendly staff (I also work in the catering industry, so I always pay extra attention to that). Food was also beautifully presented and tasted great. But still: grossly overpriced...

Drinnen wie draußen ist es sehr einladend. Im Gasthaus kann man sogar den legendären Film des Lokals bestaunen. Draußen ist ein gemütliche Biergarten direkt an der Gracht-Promenade, sogar mit Kuschel-Ecke. Die Speisekarte ist in mehreren Sprachen gehalten. Die Bedienung ist super freundlich und erklärt die Gerichte gerne. Das ist auch nicht verkehrt, da das Essen hier mit so viel Liebe & Raffinesse gekocht ist! Hervorragende Speisen und wirklich sehr gut gemischte Cocktails. Ein Muß in Griethoorn, ein unerwartetes kulinarisches Kleinod!

Went here just before the high season (midweek chalet park) employees recognized us quite quickly because we went here for coffee every day. She had a nice chat without it being too obvious. Relaxed and casual atmosphere. Even though we mainly sat outside, the interior was very attractive. the cappucino here is the best in Giethoorn, in other places it was weak. (hence our daily return) the food was not all equally good. We also received this from other guests.

We thought we took a wrong turn and ended up in Switzerland. Spaghetti Bolognese €21.50 is still possible?

Had a cup of coffee with a delicious Gieterse choux. Convenient ordering and payment system with QR code. The service was smooth, the waiter took time for a chat and spoke to his guests in their own language, very nice!

The taste of the food itself was good. However, the ribeye was not medium and the spareribs were lukewarm. When we mentioned that, we were told that they heard that often and "a bit of a shame, yes". Very strange. If you hear something like this often, do something about it!!!

Used this place as we booked online boat hire from here. Excellent service all round from Matthias who helped with everything including to and from boat hire . Lovely place for lunch, right in the middle of touristy bit.

We hebben een huisje gehuurd en hebben eigenlijk elke avond gedineerd bij de Fanfare vriendelijke bediening en heerlijk gegeten, ‘s avonds heerlijke fleswijn Salentein en heerlijke plank met beste dun gesneden vlees wat ik ooit gehad heb ( was niet goedkoop ) maar echt hemels lekker !

Nice location on the water. Service was okay, but not very assertive. We paid almost 25 euros for a hamburger with fries. This in itself is okay if it is really okay. It wasn't. Sad and tasteless. The meat was dry, probably from the freezer. You really have to do your best to kill a hamburger, but they succeeded with flying colors here.

Centrally located in Giethoorn. Great place for a cup of coffee or lunch. Known from the film “De Fanfare” by Bert Haanstra from 1958. Possibility to rent a boat to discover Giethoorn from the water.

Eravamo in tre e abbiamo visitato Giethoorn, facendo anche un giro in barca. Ci siamo rifugiati qui per pranzo, durante uno scroscio di pioggia. Il locale è molto caratteristico, affacciato su un canale, ed è pulito, con un servizio veloce e cortese. Il cibo è buono e c'è una buona varietà di birre. Il rapporto qualità/prezzo è più che adeguato. Ci ritornerei.

The visit to the restaurant was unfortunately a big disappointment. The experience started badly with the spareribs, which had been cooked for so long that they were tough and difficult to eat. What should normally be a juicy and flavorful dish felt more like an uphill battle to get through. The fries served with it were cold. It looked like they had been sitting on a plate for a while before they came to us. A simple question like "how hot are the fries?" should be enough in the kitchen to prevent this. The cocktails, which should normally be a feast for the taste buds, were disappointingly poorly mixed. The proportions were wrong, making the drinks either too strong or too watery. It seemed like no thought had gone into putting these cocktails together. As for the rendang: it looked anything but attractive. A dish should not only be tasty, but also visually attractive. Unfortunately that was completely missing. The presentation was sloppy and the dish did not look like it had been prepared with care. Perhaps worst of all was the service. After filing our complaints nothing was done to improve the situation. No apologies, no compensation, nothing. This lack of customer service made us feel unappreciated as guests. In short, this restaurant is absolutely not recommended. The quality of the food was far below par and the service was downright bad. This was a one-time visit for us.

Twee keer gegeten, twee verschillende ervaringen. Op zaterdag 9 aug. blij verrast met goede kwaliteit en mooie presentatie van de borden, reden om dinsdag 11 aug. terug te gaan. Zelfde gerecht door partner besteld, nu teleurgesteld door zowel de kwaliteit van de ravioli, te lang doorgekookt alsook door de presentatie, het bord had te lang onder de warmhoudlamp gestaan. Zowel verrast als een teleurstelling, hier moet de chef-kok strakker controleren op presentatie en bereidingswijze.

Cozy terrace with excellent service. Food was tasty. Hamburger not special, very dry and extremely well done on a bun that was too hard and dry. Too bad that fries and sauce have to be ordered separately.

Reserved a boat at Fanfare Giethoorn, which is not very cheap. Unfortunately, I was involved in a collision on the way to the boat, and I immediately called this party when we could no longer come. I was asked to send an email for perhaps some compensation. No sooner said than done; also added photos to support the story and credibility. Unfortunately, Mr. Vermeij does not want to accommodate us by rescheduling an appointment, because why would you help your customers? In accordance with the employment conditions, this gentleman is of course right, but empathy and hospitality are hard to come by.
