Grand Café Restaurant Westewind in Wijk 07 Scheveningen

Snack platter, a variety of hot and cold appetizers. One type of hot appetizer, some nuts, olives, bread, and some Parma ham on a pile of lettuce.

Absolutely unacceptable experience. We ordered vegan burgers and made this very clear when ordering. When the burgers arrived, we double-checked with the waitress, and she explicitly told us that one of them was vegan. Trusting her, we started eating only to later realize it was a regular meat burger. When we raised the issue, instead of apologizing, the waitress was rude and defensive, trying to blame us for the mistake. There was no accountability, no empathy, and no basic professionalism. Serving meat to someone who ordered vegan is not a small errorit’s a serious issue. To make matters worse, after paying the bill, we noticed on the receipt that the order wasn’t even marked correctly. When we pointed this out, her reaction was simply “Oh, I didn’t hear” not even a sorry, until we explicitly asked for one. The attitude throughout was dismissive and disrespectful. Mistakes can happen, but how you handle them matters and this was handled terribly. If you’re vegan or have dietary restrictions, do not trust this place. And if you expect basic courtesy from staff, you’ll likely be disappointed.

There were two of us, and we went in. From the outside, it looked pretty nice, but upon entering, there wasn't much attention paid to us and the atmosphere wasn't great. There were some Christmas decorations, but otherwise, it was a bit dull. We got one of the last seats, which I don't understand, because who wants to go to that restaurant/cafe? We ordered drinks, which were fine and arrived fairly quickly, but the staff seemed a bit unmotivated. We were given the menu right away and ordered croquettes with some bread. And then you think, "Can't go wrong with a croquette?" Well, no! I opened my croquette and it felt hard, and I thought, "Is it frozen?" Yes, it was! All four croquettes the two of us had were frozen on the inside. Well, that's what happened, and oh yeah, those croquettes arrived within three minutes, so that was quite remarkable. After 10 minutes, the new croquettes arrived, and the frozen ones had also been made incorrectly and were old, so their customers aren't that important! We each got a dry sandwich as compensation. We wanted to leave quickly, so we went to pay. Eight minutes after we asked, no one came, so we went over there and, after ignoring us for a bit, paid €34 for two croquettes and two drinks. No tip was given, and I wouldn't recommend that to you there, or the restaurant either. You're better off going to McDonald's than THIS!

My husband and I walked in here yesterday with our dog. We initially had a spot by the window, but it eventually got very cold and we had to move. We had a delicious meal, and the atmosphere was great. We received excellent service, and our dog was well cared for. This will be our go-to spot whenever we're back in Scheveningen. Highly recommended!

We thought we'd grab a drink (Sunday, December 7th at 5:15 PM) 🙈 We did get our menu, but after that, we weren't helped again (nor was another table). We quickly left (and didn't get a goodbye either) and went to a nice, cozy place (the Waterreus)!

The soup was too salty, the satay wasn't warm, the fries weren't warm (how hard is that??), the pickled vegetables were old and sparse, and had been supplemented with cabbage; the cabbage was dried out. Didn't eat it...

The service is ridiculously bad. After almost two hours, we had to ask where our food was. When it finally arrived, they'd forgotten the children's food. It didn't arrive until fifteen minutes later. No apology or understanding from the staff. So, definitely don't do it ;)

The positives first: the location is fantastic, of course, but there's currently a major construction site nearby, hence the slight deduction (though the café can't be blamed for that). The two servers were friendly and tried their best, but seemed a bit overwhelmed. Despite asking twice about the availability of cake, we never received a reply. Oh well 🙃. Unfortunately, the coffee isn't very good; we can't recommend it.

Delicious food and friendly services!

Unfortunately had a terrible experience. We ordered two schnitzels and both were a bit raw/uncooked in the middle. After showing it to the waitress she took the plate to the kitchen, came back with it the way she took it, and said that the chef told her that that’s how it’s supposed to be because it’s supposed to be “juicy”and if he cooks it longer it will be too dry. I asked her politely to put it to cook for a couple more minutes which she seemed to resist at the beginning but eventually took it back to the kitchen. No compensation or new dish was offered but at least they properly cooked the remainings of my dish. Regardless of the meat, the fries were a bit difficult to digest as well, so I wonder when was the last time they changed the cooking oil. Following this interaction, a different waitress started to serve our table and she was more helpful and understanding of the situation.

We didn't eat anything, just had a drink. Well, the service wasn't particularly enthusiastic, which might have been because we were sitting outside and not eating; it was October. You can't go wrong with bottled beer and an Aperol Spritz. Both were fine.

Great service and delicious food and drinks, an absolute must and not expensive.

In case of rain or storms, it is better to go to the back area… in the front there is running water from the tarpaulin ceiling… the large Heineken is well chilled… the waitress seemed a bit arrogant… the prices correspond to the location on the Boulevard

We took a short break at the Grand Café Restaurant Westewind and had a coffee. The coffee was very good, and the service was attentive and friendly. We were particularly impressed by the clean and well-maintained restrooms—which, unfortunately, isn't a given everywhere. The ambiance also impressed us: everything seemed tidy, inviting, and harmonious. Overall, a lovely place to stop for a relaxing break.

The worst service I've ever received. Wet glasses, a long wait, and a rude waiter. I won't be back, nor do I recommend it.

We hebben hier geluncht met 2 kleine kinderen. Het was gemiddeld druk. Het personeel was vriendelijk en maakte ook echt leuk contact met de kinderen. Het duurde even voor de bestelling er was, maar we zaten prima en het eten was uiteindelijk ook dik in orde.

We've been coming to you every summer for a few years now and we always really enjoy it. 🙃 Our son, Robin, was always greeted warmly by the staff. ☺️ The food is 5-star, the cocktails are 5 stars. 🍸 🍹 5 stars. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 It's always worth a visit. The value for money is great. ☺️

It is best to check if the Prosecco is still ready to serve. This was an old bottle with not a single bubble in it. For a small glass of €8, it may contain bubbles.

Tasty breakfast for a Food Price. The staff was very Kind and attentive

The intention was to have a delicious meal at Westenwind before the musical Frozen. We left at 4:00 PM and had made a reservation for 5:00 PM. Due to parking problems, we called just before 5 p.m. to say that we would arrive later. Wasn't a problem. After parking the car, checked the phone. As it turned out, Westenwind had automatically canceled my reservation, which I had placed weeks ago, at 3:58 PM.

Super friendly, nice menu and nice atmosphere. Very neat too.

We found this cafe wandering down the front at Den Haag and what an absolute treasure it is! Some very nice beergaritas on offer - the peach liefmanns is to die for - also had a couple of the very reasonably priced sandwiches from the menu and they were excellent value. I would definitely recommend popping in here during a sunny weekend for some reasonably priced drinks and food

There is of course a lot of choice in Scheveningen in terms of catering, but we chose this one because of the menu last summer. Unfortunately, the service was not very fast, even though it was not even half full. In addition, I have the strangest avocado sandwich ever. Avocado is oily and smooth in texture, but here I got a puree/puree on bread that looked and tasted different. The texture reminded me of mashed potatoes, almost like it was mixed with that. The waiter denied it and said it was just avocado. Someone who has eaten many avocado sandwiches knows the product well. Don't kid me, there was something strange about it anyway.

We left without ordering. What arrogant service. We sat down at a table that had not yet been cleared. When the service came after 10 minutes, we were not welcomed, only asked if you would like to eat or drink. After we said we wanted to start drinking, he said 'just say so'. So I asked about the map. This was apparently a difficult question, because he responded 'what did you have in mind?'. Gosh, okay, after asking again, we got a card. The arrogance at our table and at other tables was oozing. I would rather spend my money on another tent, so I left immediately. Don't go there would be my advice!

Upon arrival in Scheveningen on the boulevard, time for something to drink and soup. Beautiful venue with a fireplace and nice heaters everywhere. Staff friendly and the tomato soup was freshly made and highly recommended. Good start to a day in Scheveningen.

Unfortunately not a good experience. Cheese with dirt, if you order mixed nuts, you get salty peanuts. And the service was quite rude...

Nice location. Wonderful Christmas atmosphere and live music. The veal entrecote was super tender. We had a three course meal via tripper. Very affordable and tasty.

We had a nice dinner during a stormy (west wind??) evening. Especially in the Christmas spirit.

We went on a girls' vacation about 2 weeks ago. From the outside it looked cozy and inviting. Unfortunately that was all. We had to sit in the covered terrace, it was blowing like crazy from all sides. We mentioned this several times and asked for another table, but apparently no one was available. In the end we just implemented ourselves. But unfortunately the problem remained. Oh well. Ordered food. I asked about the spiciness of a dish. Answer: I just shouldn't use so much pepper, otherwise it wouldn't be spicy. Okay, ordered. And not edible for me. No questions asked why I didn't finish. Almost everything was still on the plate. The cocktails, we had Aperol, looked like water and tasted accordingly. We complained about this and asked for new ones. The waitress took our glasses, downed a sip of Aperol and brought them back to the table, no longer knowing whose glass was whose 😬. Only then did we find out that we had NOT received any new ones. The crowning glory: the sip of Aperol was charged an additional 2 euros. So an absolute impudence and catastrophe. Bad table, bad service, bad food and bad drinks. A great bill for that. And eye rolling when asked to pay separately. Well if that's not good advertising 😂. I absolutely cannot recommend it.

The restaurant left a bad impression, because the restaurant does not cover the usual needs of customers. After ordering a caesar salad, I didn't finish it because it was big enough, so I asked for a container in which I can take the salad home, and I was denied this basic need and they said that they don't have containers and didn't even offer any alternative or compensation, but the main thing is that there is more than half of the salad left and most likely they just threw my salad in the trash. I left almost 30 euros in this restaurant, although it was not worth it

After a day at Scheveningen we had a nice meal here and ended the day. Very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth repeating.

The Cava wine & the Spanish coffee they serve is of a high quality. Service provided is adequate and friendly, hope its terrace will expand once the boulevard is made wider.

Een heerlijk plekje waar je ongedwongen goed kunt eten! We hebben geluncht en later ook nog gedineerd! De bediening/service is top…. Gastvrijheid staat bovenaan bij deze mensen! Kwaliteit van het eten is perfect Je krijgt zeker geen lullig hapje op je bord!Je zit er rustig en je wordt zeker niet opgejaagd om door te eten en het ene gerecht na het andere neergezet! Heel relaxt en de muziek staat niet te hard zodat je zou moeten schreeuwen om elkaar te verstaan! Dus leuke gezellige ambiance! Dank jullie wel en we komen zeker terug ( 👻 boe)

Went to the location for the first time this evening. Great atmosphere, very cozy at this time of year, restaurant equipped with fire columns, lots of subtle heaters on the ceilings for absolute comfort. The waitresses were all very friendly and accommodating. The food was top class for humane and justified prices. Absolutely recommended!!

Delicious coffee and delicious lunch

Service was not having a good day today, we did receive menus but were then no longer asked if we wanted something to drink/eat. Finally asked if we could order and that was confirmed, but no one came to the table to take our order. We left without ordering anything, just like 3!! Other customers.

Cozy and relaxed atmosphere. It's also quite big too. Cosily furnished with nice chairs and sofas. Quite a bit of choice on the menu and also a lot for children. We had the schnitzel with salad and fries. Service with a smile.

Had dinner here today with three of us. Ordered a mixed grill and pasta. The mixed grill steak was initially dry, after requesting a new one that was quite good. The pasta was not good as it was literally swimming in oil. All in all, not a successful dinner.

Geen reactie op ontvangen geen extra kopje koffie of zo als goed makertje NIETS!! Dramatisch. De wijn die was goed een leuke frisse Pinot Grissio . Opmerking van de ober na de positieve proeving! Komt door de taninen !!!!! Hahaha in witte wijn !! Nee deze tent is ten dode opgeschreven!!!! Ga hier niet heen!!!

Price-quality ratio is excellent. Upon arrival, we were first given a table in an unattractive area, asked for a more attractive table and received it nicely. Aperitif was served quite quickly. Unfortunately, I then had to wait about 10 minutes for one (1) cup of tea (which was now on the lukewarm side). The starter and main course were very tasty and served hot. The dessert also took about 5-10 minutes before we were served it (it had been forgotten). The rest of the drinks were served quickly. Positive: service, food, price-quality ratio Negative/learning point: 1) customer-oriented compensation, because the tea was served lukewarm and the desserts were initially forgotten (and then had to wait 5-10 minutes), we expected some apology in the form of a drink on the house or a small discount. This was also said to the friendly employee. 2) make sure that each waiter/waitress has their own area of ​​the restaurant. Now we were sometimes asked twice within 5 minutes whether everything was satisfactory or whether we wanted to order something while an order was already in progress. All in all, this is highly recommended.

Unfortunately, 2 of the 4 menus were not satisfactory. The chicken satay had a lot of fatty pieces and the burger was black and hard. The atmosphere is good for a drink, but unfortunately our experience with the food was less positive.

We took advantage of the theater menu here. It was quite expensive for the portions, but the food was very tasty. There was a dark-skinned lady with wavy black hair who spoke no Dutch. She really needs to be worked in and should not be released yet. Didn't know what she could and couldn't clear and almost took our half-filled drinks with her. She gave us dessert without any cutlery. When we asked for it, we were given a knife and fork. When asked about a desert spoon, we got a large spoon. By the time we got ahold of someone else and finally got a dessert spoon, the ice cream was already half melted. Shame! We didn't miss the lovely seating area outside, we still enjoyed it and hope that you will take the above feedback into account.

Sat on the patio enjoying a warm summer afternoon while dining. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was good. I enjoyed the Caeser Salad with Chicken and a South African an Chenin Blanc.

Very attractively decorated restaurant with a sea view. Highly recommended! Beautiful menu card, one vegetarian main course. Or you should go for the theater menu, please note: these are not complete dishes, this is a tasting. So I went wrong with this myself, I ate my partner's fries to fill my stomach. The taste of the dishes was phenomenal. Really absurdly good. Different taste sounds that come together caress the taste pupils. The toilets were not recommended after a summer day when the temperature had risen to 30 degrees. I've decided not to use it.

I'm not actually planning on writing any reviews. But my experience today has forced me to leave a few lines here for those who are undecided in the future. I ordered the mixed grill plate. Sitting nicely in the front row on the promenade, I waited eagerly for my grilled plate for €25 (mayo is charged extra). I got a plate with a small dried sausage, a small piece of chicken and a spare rib (3 bones!), of which both bones were an end piece - i.e. only two rows of meat. Everything was tough and not good. I ordered the waitress and pointed out my displeasure. She noticed that the wonderful steak was missing from my plate and that the ribs were probably an oversight. I was now expecting a new plate - after about 15 minutes a small piece of steak was brought to me, which was well done and tasted like fish. They also brought me a piece of rib - also unfortunately very tough. I would like to mention again - I am super tolerant and just like good food. A fast food restaurant can serve something like that or, in my opinion, cost €12-14 - but the location coupled with the price is a complete disappointment. I said several times that it just didn't taste good at full price - unfortunately I wasn't full. I would recommend one of the numerous other restaurants! The service was attentive and friendly.

Great restaurant, but things went wrong in the planning of the kitchen. We waited a long time for our food. We were in a hurry because of a musical in the theater. Everything was fine, but in the end we arrived at the theater on time. Not exactly a relaxing dinner. Service was great! Resolved it all well and received a drink to compensate. Es ist Nebensaison, das Wetter, eben wie im April, windig und frisch. Zum Abendessen wurde uns schon mal mitgeteilt, dass es keine Vorspeise gebraten wird, eben Nebensaison. Alle Hauptspeisen waren ausgezeichnet und die Bedienung der beiden jungen Damen vorzüglich. Gerne wieder.
