The food is delicious, but people are admitted according to the availability of tables, not according to a queue. This means people who arrived after us were admitted before us, and this happened more than once.

Very disappointing service. I was first in line while three tables were empty, so I sat down. I was then ignored while other tables were served. When I asked to order, I was told to go back and stand in line again. After I did, I was ignored once more, and the table I had been sitting at was given to other customers. I ended up leaving without ordering.

We spent three days in Amsterdam in mid-August and regretted not having breakfast here on the first day. But we enjoyed two delicious breakfasts with poached eggs. We especially loved the sauerkraut version – it was a masterpiece! The bread and coffee were all delicious. We arrived early, around 9 a.m., and we were always able to find a table. The service was warm and welcoming, with a smile, creating a pleasant atmosphere for enjoying breakfast.

A delightful, romantic, and quiet place for brunch or lunch. We had excellent eggs benedict and omelets, and delicious freshly squeezed juices.

Excellent breakfasts. Average price for breakfast (excluding drinks) €16. We spent a weekend in Amsterdam and ordered breakfast again. Very friendly service; you have to wait about 10 minutes for a table.

Absolutely delicious brunch. We had the French toast and the Amsterdam and both delicious. The chai latte dirty is amazing and the coconut latte is very good. Definitely found our new favorite brunch spot.

Empty tables and they're not taking customers

Greenwoods is seriously overpriced for the experience you actually get. The view might be nice, but it’s completely ruined by the fact that you’re often seated next to overflowing, foul-smelling dumpsters. Garbage is left piled up on the ground, and this isn’t a one-time issue — it seems to happen consistently. It’s honestly shocking how poorly waste is managed here. Not only is it unpleasant for paying customers, but it’s also disrespectful to neighboring shops and residents, with trash left right in front of entrances and apartment doors. For a place that charges these prices, this level of hygiene and consideration is unacceptable. Really disappointing.

Best breakfast I had in Amsterdam

Located in the center of Amsterdam, it offers a beautiful view, great food, and fast service.

The atmosphere matches the service and the enjoyment of the food. The waitress (without glasses, dark hair) didn't say hello or even greet us. The prices were quite high, especially since everything on the menu is ordered individually. Two plates of pancakes with banana, two cappuccinos, and one orange juice: €55. The waitress placed the card reader with a 10% tip already applied...

The experience was absolutely brilliant. From the service provided by Claudia, Andrea and all the waitresses to the quality of the food. If you’re looking for healthy, gluten-free options and so on, this is the place for you. I felt very comfortable throughout the meal. I’ll definitely be back. :))))))

The food is mid, but the service is not great when it comes to some waiters, if you go to this place make sure you look at the waiters making the drink as they always accidentally drop mint on the floor and then put it back in your drink and then accuse you of being the bad person for speaking up about your drink being possibly filled with bacteria from dirt on the floor. Wait times are long spaces are crammed in my opinion this place is overrated. I would also not risk eating their again as I don’t know how much cross contamination is happening in the kitchen after seeing what they do to their drinks

Nothing Exceptional.. I heard that they’re serving a good english breakfast but they don’t. Unfortunately, my experience with the host was very disappointing. She was consistently rude, unwelcoming, and had an unfriendly attitude.

Simply fantastic. Delicious food in generous portions, super friendly service, great atmosphere with good music and a great vibe. You have to wait a bit, but it's manageable. And in return, you get a delicious breakfast (we were there around noon).

Greenwoods absolutely nailed breakfast. 🍳🥓 I ordered the Cacio e Pepe Eggs Benedict (minus the portobello, with bacon added), and I honestly wasn’t expecting it to taste this authentic. It took me right back to Italy—rich, peppery, cheesy, and hands down one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a long time. And whatever you do… don’t let the line outside scare you away. It’s worth every minute of the wait—and then some. If I’m ever back in Amsterdam, this will be my first stop. 🇳🇱❤️

This spot will not disapoint you!

I must say, the setting near the canal is beautiful. The breakfast options are varied; we went for the New Amsterdam Benedict and the muffin with the hash brown—delicious. The service was good, though somewhat limited; it seemed like they were understaffed. My only recommendation is that they offer a barista course. The coffees weren't good; you couldn't tell a latte from a cappuccino, and the milk wasn't properly frothed—it should be smooth, not bubbly.

Terrible experience. Even though there were plenty of empty tables, we waited in line for over two hours. After we were seated, we still had to wait a long time because no one came to take our order. The service was extremely slow and disorganized. It felt like they didn’t care about their customers at all. I definitely do not recommend this place. Save your time and go somewhere else

The smoothies and Amsterdam Benedict eggs very tasty. You will probably have to wait for a table in our case it was around 15-20 minutes. I didn’t liked the part with the card payment as they said it’s not working properly and we will need to wait 7-8 minutes for a restart. Hopefully this is not a trick to make people make cash payments. :)

A great breakfast spot. We went early. Most of the tables were empty when we arrived. A queue started forming after half an hour. I had the vegetarian breakfast, it was excellent. My wife had the New Amsterdam Eggbenedict and she liked it very much. Their coffee was also good.

Fantastic breakfast. The service was really friendly and quick. The menu offers a good selection, and everyone should find something they like. I can definitely recommend the poached egg "Amsterdam." I haven't had anything so delicious in a long time. In my opinion, the lemonade is a bit overpriced. A little over €20 for a small glass is almost outrageous for what you get.

What a lovely spot on the Singel. The atmosphere here is incredibly nice, and the view of the water really completes it. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. The carrot cake was fantastic and beautifully presented with a subtle layer of cinnamon on the plate. Everything was taken care of down to the last detail and tasted very good. I will definitely come back here again.

This is an excellent place to have breakfast if you are in Amsterdam. There was a good choice as long as you like eggs. The food we had was beautifully cooked and very tasty. This place isn’t very big even with the outside seating. It is very popular so get there before 9am if you want a seat straight away otherwise you will need to queue. Worth the wait though. Staff were friendly and efficient, which is great to see as they were constantly busy. If you get a chance, it is well worth eating here.

We visited this place but ended up leaving. We sat at our table for about 30 minutes and asked three times if we could place an order, but we were completely ignored each time. The lack of service was very disappointing and left a poor impression. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this place based on our experience.

Chicken quesadillas excellently seasoned. Pancakes and sweets smelled amazing even though I didn’t get my try. Jeez Louise I will be coming back. I could eat here everyday. There are few tables, so you might have to wait a bit, but it moves quickly. The service is nice, and the breakfast is average. I liked the beans; they were delicious.

We were forced to stand in line despite the presence of empty tables, but it seems like a deliberate tactic to attract people by creating the illusion of a crowded place. Even if you're first in line, you'll have to wait at least five minutes before they tell you to sit down, even if the table next to you is empty. As for the food, it's good, and they have options to suit everyone.

I came here with my three best friends and we absolutely loved it! The food was incredibly delicious and everything tasted fresh. I would definitely recommend coming early, because otherwise you might have to wait around 15–20 minutes for a table. Smoking isn’t allowed on the outdoor terrace, but that’s completely understandable since it could disturb other guests. Other than that, everything was amazing and I would definitely come back!

It’s 8:45, yet two sluggish female employees still haven't opened the restaurant. They’re putting out a water bowl for a dog that isn't even there, while American tourists over the age of 90 are left standing and waiting. A disrespectful business that posts an 8:30 opening time but couldn't care less.

They were very busy but still kept up with the needs of their tables and food came out with great timing. Potentially the best full English breakfast I've eaten outside the UK - (apparently the chef is a British fella) This is not your standard fare, every element was of high quality and freshly cooked. Portions generous. Excellent pork and leek sausage, home made hash brown, even white pudding which is always a fantastic alternative to the more controversial black pudding. Great coffee, great orange juice, etc etc

While visiting Amsterdam from the United States with my husband and friends, we had an amazing breakfast at Greenwoods Singel. We started with a fresh-squeezed apple, ginger, and carrot juice, & smoothie which was incredibly fresh and refreshing. I ordered The Dutchman, a savory dish that was absolutely delicious, and added a hash brown that was perfectly crispy and flavorful. My husband chose the banana bread crumble, and he loved it. We also ordered bacon, which was some of the best we’ve ever had! Everything we tried was fantastic, and the service made the experience even better. The host and waitresses were so warm and welcoming, and they gave us excellent recommendations. Their kindness and attention to detail really stood out. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would definitely return the next time we’re in Amsterdam. Highly recommend! 😊🍽️🇳🇱

Overall, an average experience. The food wasn’t really to our taste, as it was quite vinegary and the flavor felt a bit overpowering. The service at the end was also a little frustrating. We had to ask for the bill several times and waited longer than expected before we could pay and leave. We were also told that the card machine wasn’t working and were asked to pay in cash, which was a bit inconvenient. That said, the staff was polite and did offer us a discount after we mentioned the issue with the food, which we appreciated. Hopefully these are just things that can be improved, as the place has potential.

Delicious place... But be prepared to stand in line (it's definitely worth it 👍🏻). My shakshuka was excellent, my son enjoyed the pancakes. Thank you, everything was wonderful. I especially liked that you can see how the food is actually cooked, not just reheated 🫶🫶🫶 (the kitchen is right before your eyes). Very friendly service, but I think with such a busy schedule they need another waiter; two is too few, and I would also add wet wipes to the table. The food is beyond praise 👍🏻❤️👍🏻

Truly an excellent food joint. Their food is nothing short of delicious, and their service is exceptionally fast for how good the food is. Though the place is a bit small, it has some lovely charm to it and you can tell everyone who works their enjoys what they do. Again, I have nothing but high praise for this place.

Very disappointing experience at Greenwoods Singel. The service was poor, and unfortunately one waitress came across as unfriendly and unwelcoming. Instead of feeling comfortable and looked after, we felt ignored and uncomfortable. On top of that, the food was not that great and did not live up to the expectations.

Veronica is incredible! She is extremely efficient and provides such a great atmosphere. It was a pleasure to be served by her!

Terrific dishes and amazing staff

We looked up a good hearty breakfast in Amsterdam this morning and were recommended Greenwood’s and we were not disappointed. Very cute cafe, very friendly team, cool music and delicious food and drinks. Lots of healthy options and naughty ones. So many options I didn’t know what to go for, wish we lived closer I would go and try everything. We both had the Sunny Side Stack, a muffin stacked with bacon, fried eggs, hash brown and cheese, served with beans. Delicious. 🤤 I had to try the carrot cake, it was delightful, not too sweet and very tasty. When we left there was a Que for tables so go early is my advice. Thank you for a great breakfast and we will definitely be back when we are in Amsterdam again.

Amazing brunch. We saw a big line but it moved pretty quickly (less than a half hour wait). These guys are the real deal. They bake different breads for the brunch dishes. We had full English with soda bread and it was top notch (and I've had a few English breakfast). Great tea and lattes. Friendly staff and super accommodating. They also seem to be very aware of allergies. Don't miss this one for a large breakfast. Next time I'll have to try and eggs benedict as they looked perfect!

The overall experience was okay - I had higher expectations based on the reviews. The staff were accommodating with my order, as I wanted to alter the dish slightly. The pancakes and bacon had a bit of a funny bitter/burnt aftertaste though (potentially something left on the pan?). My husbands meal looked good (full English). Both meals were generous in portions, although the amount of maple syrup I received for my pancake stack was tiny. The interior was cosy and surroundings felt very traditional, so had a nice atmosphere overall. Probably wouldn’t visit again.

The food was outstanding; fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavour (one of the best breakfasts we had in Amsterdam). Great drinks, generous portions, and a relaxed vibe by the canal sat under a heater outside; make this place a must-visit. Can’t wait to come back! Be sure to be early at opening time as the queues can be long - we got lucky and were seated straight away.
