I had a wonderful evening with my family. We received a warm welcome, and the service was excellent. The restaurant has the charm of a Greek tavern. The portions were just right in our opinion. I have been going to this place for over 20 years. Family run and the Greek food I have had here is better than anything I had in Greece. Amsterdam trip coming up and I am booked there for 2 nights for dinner. Food shouldn't be rushed, have a glass of wine and enjoy

We happened to be walking by, so we didn't read any reviews or anything (I'm not one for that, but I'm writing one anyway). It felt a bit rushed with two staff members on a Friday evening. I was asked if I wanted water with my Retsina, only to be given a refilled 1.5-liter bottle of tap water (for one person) for €4.95. I should have known, but I hadn't seen this in a long time. Stupid, but also not very friendly to ask for so much money for nothing without asking...

Super nice place with a view of the Amstel River. Lots to see if you sit on the hedged terrace. The wine was excellent, and the mezedes were also perfect. However, the gyros platter was disappointing. The meat strips seemed boiled instead of grilled. A unique experience, but not what we expected from a gyros platter at this restaurant. Too bad, because the abond could have been excellent.

The beer was undrinkable and served in fairground glasses. It took almost 1.5 hours from ordering to serving the food, all just so everyone could start eating at the same time. The finished dishes were, of course, already cold when they were served. The portions were reminiscent of children's plates and the prices were completely inflated. The entire group was very disappointed and will not visit this snack bar again or recommend it. Simply awful in every respect.

Unfortunately, it was disappointing: the portion was very small, the food arrived cold, and the prices were simply too high. The taste was okay, but overall, it wasn't up to scratch – I wouldn't recommend it.

This is fast becoming one of my favourite places to visit in my neighbourhood! The staff are wonderful, especially Sami and Emilio! They always make us feel welcomed like we are family 🥰 Food is delicious and the Greek wine fantastic! Highly recommend for a taste of Greece! 🇬🇷

Nice outdoor spot. Friendly service. The food was mediocre. The salad had a huge amount of onion. The squid was rubbery and the gyros very greasy.

My daughter and I landed here when the pizza place next door ran out of dough. What a happy accident it was! I thought I knew what Greek food tasted like, but clearly I was mistaken. This was far better than anything I’ve had before. We ordered the spanakopita and it was beyond delicious with its crisp flaky outside covering a rich and fresh filling of cheese and spinach. We also ordered the moussaka. It was rich and flavorful and came with a small salad. We liked it so much we are going back again before our time in Amsterdam comes to an end! We were also offered fresh bread and tzatziki before our meal. The tzatziki was well balanced in flavor, and the texture was perfect. The environment was pleasant and staff was very friendly. If you are in the area and want delicious food made by lovely people, I highly recommend you visit Grieks Restaurant Athene!

Too long a wait. You wonder what they're doing in the kitchen. Too long. We were with a baby and there was no consideration. The parents left with takeaway. Too bad.

Terrible restaurant experience ever!!! The owner tries to rip off your money with double order and then tries to bully. If i was not with my family i would definitely go to police. Never ever go there because the owner is a gansgter but not anything else. It will be more than dissapointment maybe even nightmare whoever goes there!!!

Nos encantó la comida en este restaurante. Y caminamos ya que estaba muy cerca de Pestana Amsterdam Riverside Hotel. El personal era encantador también. Nos sentamos dentro de su ventana abierta, viendo a los transeúntes... muy agradable.

Great place to eat, wonderful food and service

Nice place to enjoy Greek dishes. You sit in the sun, although on a busy road, but the service is fast and very friendly.

Het is inderdaad een chaotisch restaurant. Toen we aankwamen was alleen de kok er , Madonna, die hielp ons heel lief. Sommige gerechten verkeerd, later kwam de eigenaar, heel vriendelijk, en haalde wat van de rekening af. Gerechten waren allemaal heerlijk, ietwat klein, maar vooruit. Het rommelige maakte het wel sfeervol.

Didn’t eat here. But had to feed my 9month old baby and they were the kindest people. Thank you :)

Unfortunately it’s not that good. Food was okay - Nothing special. Greek Salad came with very little oil if nothing. Meat was dry and not so good quality. Service is definitely NOT good. The owner wasn’t a good host as anyone should expect.

I will just say that I ate a pie and after few hours I was hugging toilet. Feta did had a weird taste, like it expired, but I just thought it was the type of cheese. And I know it was from their food as I m breastfeeding and I really choosing what Im gonna eat. Definitely not be eating there again.

Came here for a nice bite to eat. We sat on the terrace and were kindly helped. We ordered wine and food. 3 of the 4 wine glasses arrived with dirty lipstick on the edges and not even a little... I had to ask if we could get new glasses. Well that can happen. Then some of the food came, it was tasty, but we had ordered a portion of sandwiches for 1 person. The waiter had given 2 portions of sandwiches in 1 basket without communicating it to us. Furthermore, we even waited more than 1 hour or more for the rest of the food. While I certainly don't think it had to take that long. When the food arrived, we had to ask for cutlery. Food was tasty, then we asked for some extra sauce and then we thought we might get it for free because of the wait. Not so, we also had to pay a few euros for that, which is understandable. Then I think the waiter expected a tip. It is understandable that we are not going to give that after our experience. Other than that, the food was really good, but we certainly won't repeat it!

What a delicious meal we had at Athene tonight. From the tzatziki to the gyros, keftekakia and bifteki, everything is equally tasty. We ate our fingers. Don't forget the baklava, super fresh and so tasty!! Host Emilio was super hospitable and pleasant. We will definitely come back soon! Evcharisto!!

The worst food I ever had, don’t go there!!!!!

we decided to give it a try. the terrace was filled with people but we sat inside because it was getting dark and chilly. we had to wait 10 minutes for the menus, the staff were polite; we got home made bread with tzatziki (that was tasty) and drinks, 15 min later we were able to order food - mixed vegetable platter and mixed grill. The taste of both dishes was alright but I wouldnt repeat - very greasy veg dish and dry mixed grill meat. There was one lady in the kitchen and thats why it was very slow. Ventilation there is not great so we ended up smelling like barbeque. Interesting experience but unfortunately not worth repeating (for us anyway)

Just sat on the terrace with my friend. We are served pink chicken fillet (raw). A comment is made about this. Ultimately, it is agreed that it will be removed from the account. In the end it becomes a discussion that not everything is raw and some chicken fillets are well done. It's shameful that you serve your customers raw meat and start such a discussion. This can make you sick. Take your responsibility. Unfortunately we had paid in advance. So you shouldn't do this. In addition, the waiting time was very long. Big 1 star!

We went to eat in this amazing restaurant while we were on our vacation in Amsterdam. If you want to take a taste of the greek food, this is the right place to go. The owner is a very crazy and happy person. Below, you will see the extraordinary cocktails that he made us. Also, the waitress, Elena was incredible helpful and friendly. We recommend it wholeheartedly.

The food was tasty, large portions, hot and fresh. The owner was very friendly and so were the employees. Very chaotic and expensive. It's bizarre that people constantly cycle through the terrace. That also makes me feel a bit rushed. It is also very small inside. You're sitting pretty close together.

Top atmosphere, very personal atmosphere. The owner sometimes goes completely crazy to the cheerful music. Cozy and much less distant than most foreign tourist traps in the city. Location is also ideal, easily accessible by public transport and located along the Amstel.

Stopt by for a nice greek dish.... Very dissapointing

So, I was a little skeptical about this place after reading a few reviews. While they were mixed, it leaned more negativity. But, I was hoping for the best as it is a quaint little place beside the canal. I'm really glad I went! I kept it traditional, as you should with any restaurant you are sure of. I was not at all disappointed. I had the Spanikopita. It was fresh, flaky, and savory. The spinach and cheese filling the most delicious I've had. 2 nice pieces. I was delighted. I was only slightly disappointed when I ordered the grilled lamp chops, and it wasn't available. Actually, all lamb dishes weren't. So I went with the salmon. The salmon was nice. But, pairing it was fries? Ugh. Why? Try baby potatoes or a rice pilaf. But, fries? I already had fries for lunch. So there was that. Safe to say, it's a cute but basic little spot along the canal. They had me with that spanikopita, though. Those were the best.

It s been a while since I wanted to visit this Greek restaurant in my neighbor but it was a total disappointment. We ordered some starters and main dishes at the same time. But main dishes were served after one and half hour later with three warnings to the waitress who has no idea about his job. I ordered a seabass and it was served with it is price label on it(the one used in the markets to show the price and the name of the fish) which they forgot to pull out before cooking. I also ordered kalamar which was medium cooked despite I expected a crunchy one. Ambiance and music was good till the guy who looks the owner suddenly got the mic and start singing a song loudly which killed the vibe within seconds. Not going there again for sure to pay +100 Euro for almost nothing in return. Further comment about this strange place; as you see below, the owner even not caring about how he could make the things right but spending his time to recommend me to go Mc Donalds. That would have been better idea tho:)

We had a great time here on a Friday evening a few week ago. Fast service, tasty food.

The restaurant is a bit cramped inside and it took a very long time before we got the food. However, the staff was very friendly and at the end of the evening there was a good atmosphere, because the plates were thrown on the floor in the Greek style. The food was fine. My dining companion liked the gyros. The vegetarian dish was very much. The spanakopita was good, as was the tzatziki. It was supposed to come with beans, but unfortunately that was not the case. Good ouzo.

We celebrated my girlfriend's birthday at Greek Restaurant Athene, and it was an amazing experience! From the warm welcome to the delicious food, everything was perfectly arranged. The atmosphere was cozy, the service attentive and the food authentically Greek. A great place to celebrate a special occasion!

DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE...if you don't want to have a good time. The food is great, the place is quiet and nice, and the service is phenomenal. I never leave dissatisfied because their people will do everything for you to have a good time. If you are coming as a tourist and you are looking for something outside the center, come here and ask for Emilius, he will prepare you nice food and make sure you leave happy!.

Got the wrong wine, got the wrong skewer then the meat on the mix grill was incredibly dry. Do not recommend a visit.

There are 3 basics to restaurants. Food, service and wine and this fails on all of them. The waiters barely spoke Dutch or English and had no waiter skills at all, unable to take drinks orders, provide menus, bring dishes or much else. The food was appalling. Greek cuisine is famous for the meze. They were dire, small portions with no flavour and barely anything Greek about them. The mains were all reheated and oily. The "bifteki" were still raw on the inside. The gyros were tepid. The Retsina wine had been over-flavoured with sage leaves. Avoid at all costs!

Went yesterday! Crazy busy…they were short staffed so had to wait longer for drinks & food . But, everything came out fresh and delicious. Worth the wait.

Really nice place with friendly stuff, delicious food (there are vegetarian options). The Greek salad and the aubergine salad deserve a separate star! 🤌 You can also try traditional Greek Retsina wine here. The only thing, is that you need to pay for tap water, but it is normal in many places in Amsterdam. Highly recommend!

Nice location, but food is quite disappointing

Good things first. The staff is really nice, they are attentive and kind. Th location is really nice, along the Amstel, enough hustle and bustle to make sitting here fun and entertaining. But the food. The tzatziki with bread is the only thing we had that I can recommend. The mixed grill and the mixed vegetables were actually pretty bad. The mixed grill had some dry pieces of chicken and an incredibly dry meatball. The taste wasn’t all that bad, but the entire dish was so dry. The salad was poor and the fries were also poor. The mixed vegetables dish was just wrong. A bowl of watery tomato something with vegetables that have been cooked to mush. Even the end parts of the leek and onions were in the mix. The rice was a tiny bowl of rice, again dry, and the salad was poor. I think they tried to make the vegetables a Greek dish by just adding 3 pieces of feta in it. Overall really really really poor food. Bad in taste, visually bad, price quality way off. Oh and the aperol spritz was also bad. Very watery, no sparkle, lots of ice. The staff was friendly, but that’s all.

De service was belachelijk, vreselijk zelfs het eten duurde 80 min voor paar simpele gerechten en dan was het ook nog koud .. en na dit gezegd te hebben wilden ze het niet terug nemen..ga nooit maar ook nooit naar dit restaurant

Ate here twice, food is delicious, portions big with proper homemade Greek taste. Servers would go extra mile for you if you know what you want and maybe it's not on the menu 😉. We usually order multiple dishes cuz choosing only one is impossible.

Really good food , Nice service . Perfect tzatziki and starters in general. Main dish also delicious,and the perfect atmosphere due to blue/white colors and greek Music. All finalised with a couple of Raki shots. 100% brilliant evening.🤘

The food was really good. I ordered something based on the waiter’s recommendation and I thought it tasted amazing. The service was also very friendly and the waiter was very nice :) it is a bit pricey however overall it was a nice experience :)

SCAM FOR TOURISTS Food is good, but service really low and the owner rude. First of all the menu he gave us was not the same as on the website, cheaper on the website. We were charged for tap water and pita bread although we didn’t order it. And after the low service he brought the incorrect order .

IF the owner had told us when we booked that he had a birthday party in that night of around 30 people - Yea, we might not have come. As it is I will never go back again because apart from him not having the decency to inform us that we would be unable to hear each other for most of the evening, let alone have a conversation. When it was actually quiet enough to talk - they were having )long, interminable, boring birthday speeches. During one of which we were 'shushed'! My dinner companions stopped me from saying anything. The food is not cheap and it's varied - One of the vegetarian dishes was lots of fried stuff and therefore delicious - but it was more or less the same as the (vegetarian mixed mezes) starter we had ordered. The other was a fairly tasteless and boring sort of stew - give it a miss. There were only two of them working which resulted in pretty shoddy service and the food was not presented well. I had a mixed grill, couldn't work out what most of it was. They were really good about swapping the chicken breast, for a meatball as it turned out, which was the only identifiable meat on the plate. The head waiter is gropey, touchy, feely. Was also not allowed to say anything about that!

Very enthusiastic and friendly welcome by owner/manager. We had a very tasty meal and enjoyed occasionally singing along to the Greek music (which was perhaps a little too loud, but did contribute to the good atmosphere). We sat at the table for a nice long time. No rush, not too often asked if you want something to drink - actually all just right! The main meal was served from the kitchen with great enthusiasm and as mentioned, the food was very tasty. After dessert, a glass of ouzo to round off a wonderful evening. Until next time!

Good Greek food and the service is excellent. We arrived a little bit late and the owner re-opened the kitchen for us (not so common in Amsterdam). Food is great, he made us some dishes to be shared combining small portions of his menu so we had the opportunity to taste a little bit of everything. Very friendly owner and food was great! We were a bit hesitant because there were no other guests, apparently it was a quiet night because of people coming early for the theatre. However they made us feel very welcome and the food was absolutely fresh and prepared with care. Really do recommend, I don’t see why people would rate this poorly. Spanakopita and pita with tzatziki were absolute favourites!

The Greek salad was small and about too sour. I took also some vegetarian dish that was small quite tasty and with it a-bit of rice and small salad.

Liebevoll gestaltetes kleines Restaurant mit sehr stimmigen Ambiente. Wir waren rundum zufrieden. Das Essen war geschmacklich sehr gut, schön angerichtet und auch das Pitabrot und Tzaziki als Vorspeise war sehr lecker. Preis-Leistung fanden wir auf jeden Fall in Ordnung. Der Service war freundlich und aufmerksam aber nicht aufdringlich. Wir können das Restaurant empfehlen!
