The Greek Embassy - Coffee Bar Kouzina - Weesperzijde in Weesperzijde

So... I find it really hard to come up with a good review and here is why: we went for dinner at The Greek Embassy and boy did we have a great meal! The food is great! A 10/10! But... where to start with our thoughts on service? Yes, I know Amsterdam is not exactly known for its great customer service, but this experience was a big dissapointment. When we were sat down we waited quite some time for the menu, only to be told after we asked someone that the menu is to be scanned via the QR-code that is hidden on a small candle holder. Why not mention this to (in our case: first time) guests? Also, not one of the staff members came to check in on us during the night ("how is the food? Would you like something to drink? Everything OK? Would you like a dessert?", you know the drill...) and at the end of the night we were presented with the bill without anything being said... it felt kinda like: "get out of here please" (often they ask you: "our kitchen is closing, would you like a last round?"). And it is not the case that the staff members were unfriendly (to the contrary: when they brought our food we were met with a smile) but it is lacking the basic principles of hospitality: a smile and some small talk to make the guests feel welcome goes a long way...

I was looking for a place close to our hotel specifically for breakfast, and I definitely made the right choice. The café has a wide selection of coffees. We chose the classic ones and were very satisfied. For breakfast, we had toast with various toppings – the portions were quite generous. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The location is in a quiet neighborhood, where you can enjoy a relaxing breakfast.

I was walking by and desperately needed to pee. At the bar, I asked if I could use the restroom. They didn't ask if I wanted to buy anything or if I had to pay for it beforehand. After using the restroom, I placed a euro on the bar, but the bartender refused to accept any money. I left it anyway. The Greek Embassy provided excellent service, and I'll definitely be back for drinks and snacks.

Very good, generous portions, and the servers were very friendly! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal! I highly recommend it!

Great place for dinner, very pleasant and with delicious and quite abundant food, as we had three courses for the 4 of us.

They’d run out of pastries by 15:00 on a Sunday. The eggs on toast were good, I’d recommend with the Greek sausage. I didn’t like the acidity of the coffee here

We had high hopes before coming here. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. I had the moussaka. It was just bland and tasted like it was stale. My friend got the grilled chicken. And it was just that. It was just grilled chicken with no Greek touch. Another friend of mine got the lamb and that was great. I expected all the dishes we got here to be above average based on the reviews. The people were very friendly and accommodating but based on the quality of the food we had, I don’t think I will go back there for dinner.

Super friendly staff, extremely delicious coffee

Amazing place. The staff are extremely friendly, and they truly serve you a little piece of Greece:) It must be noted that the price for their pies (which were amazing) is ‘pinched’ ie. too high… However, they were so good, and can you really blame them for not sacrificing quality?

Had some tasty food with nothing to complain about

I had a very disappointing experience at The Greek Embassy - Coffee Bar Kouzina (Weesperzijde). The food is at best average – nothing special, nothing memorable. What really shocked me were the prices. We were charged €6.90 for a simple bottle of still water. That’s outrageous. It feels like they are taking advantage of customers rather than offering genuine value. For me, this place is far from authentic hospitality – it’s overpriced and not worth it. I definitely do not recommend it. In my opinion, it borders on being a rip-off.

After visiting Crete this summer, my partner and I thought it would be time to catch up on one of our facorute cuisines: Greek. However, this place was disappointing and it does NOT live up to its name “Greek Embassy”. It felt like the products/ingredients in the food were made from Albert Heijn veggies and it simply was a big slap in the face after tasting so much wonderful Greek food this summer. If you choose to make simple things, you have to make sure the quality is excelent … which it was not. The staff however, did great. They were kind, and it was positive. However, once again, if you call a place the Greek embassy, it should honour the food and culture, not be a mediocre place in my opinion.

The price for the tzatziki and pita is too high unfortunately and the tzatziki was unfortunately tasteless. But still love the vibes and the wine!

Good food good vibes. I would recommend beef sausages. If you eat onion, ask for onion on a side as extra. Goes well together.

After a few days of eating street food we needed something healthy and refreshing so bad! Even though they had ran out of the Caesar salad with chicken they accommodated us by adding chicken to their greek salad. They also have a grilled chicken dish that has the most generous protein portion. Real great place if you are looking to eat something healthy!

I recently visited this establishment with my boyfriend, intending to sample Greek cuisine. Unfortunately, the available options were limited, as the Greek dishes were primarily featured on the brunch menu. Furthermore, the lunch options seemed rather expensive in comparison to what was offered. While I would consider returning for brunch, I am unlikely to revisit for lunch or dinner.

We were excited to visit for some good coffees and pastries, but it was nothing special. It seems they are a bit understaffed. Service is extremely slow. It wasn't very clear if there was table service or if we should order at the bar. Ultimately, there is table service - perhaps we should try again another time.

Need a Greek visa? Come for the paperwork, stay for the caffeine. The embassy serves coffee so good it almost feels like they’re trying to bribe you into loving Greece. That extra- almost dripping out cappuccino is pure Greek hospitality in a cup. Perfect for kickstarting your day—or just pretending your visa run is actually a coffee date.

Very good lunch. We had a spinach pie and avocado toast, it was very good. The orange juice too. And served with a smile, I recommend it for a nice little break!

This is our favorite coffee spot. They’ve got that nice strong Greek coffee going. Staff seem to change a lot. And they’ve gone from coffee shop plus to more café restaurant. I kinda miss the og vibe and staff but coffee and pies are still great.

After a brief stint in Cyprus, we had dinner at The Greek Embassy, on someone's recommendation. I'm thrilled with the culinary experience. Everything was truly delicious. It was an unforgettable evening: good food, a lovely atmosphere, and an attentive, friendly, and professional waiter from Athens who supports AC Milan.

Really tasty food, and nice setting when sat outdoors. However the service really let this place down: - Quite a long wait every time to get a waiter to return to our table for just about anything really - Waiter insistently tried to charge my card a second time when I had already paid for the bill in full - Can’t split the bill on more than one card which makes things unnecessarily complicated for groups

Unfortunately, only 3 stars. I had hoped for more, but the food selection was tiny, as the lunch dishes aren't available until 4 p.m. We waited a long time for the food, and the portions were average.

Friendly service and delicious food on a lovely terrace. The Bougatsa feta honey was nice and crispy and had the right balance of salt and sweetness—delicious! The Greek eggs Kayanas were also delicious, with a nice thick slice of sourdough bread. Highly recommended! The only point for improvement is the lack of a physical menu. Reading the menu on your phone is less convenient than browsing through it.

The food has such an authentic taste, and many of the staff are Greek, which gives the place a real Greek vibe. If you want to drink something unique, I definitely recommend the mountain tea. It’s delicious and refreshing as an iced drink during your meal, but you can also enjoy it warm as an after-dinner tea. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is located on a street where not many cars pass by, so you can enjoy your meal peacefully. There are quite a few cyclists though, which adds to the lively yet relaxed atmosphere. After dinner, you could take a walk along the Amstel to enjoy a stunning sunset view.

So, my wife and I went to the Greek Embassy deli place, which was nice, and they told us about the “restaurant” on the weesperzijde. Then I started seeing one post after another on Instagram, and it looked good. So we booked a table since we love Greek food. However after going there we left very disappointed. The staff wasn’t particularly polite or good, but more importantly the food was not good at all. My wife had the grilled pork belly and it was tasteless. I had the pork stew, which was slightly better, but also not good. My wife and I are both good cooks, so we have some expectations, but this did not even hit our minimum expectation. The best thing they have going for themselves is the location, but that’s not enough for a repeat visit.

Wouldn't recommend. We were given a cramped table for two, four of us. After the main course: octopus in vinegar, I became very ill within 20 minutes. Nauseous and vomited three times in the restaurant. "It can't be the dish. Maybe something is bothering you," I felt very ill. After some discussion, this dish was eventually removed from the bill, but it didn't feel hearty. I wouldn't recommend eating here.

As a Greek I was finding for an occasional escape, to feel like I’m in Greece for 1-2 hours and with this place I feel like it! When I have the need I go there to sit and drink a Freddo espresso, eat a bougatsa also, say a Hi to the friendly and lovely stuff that works there and also enjoy the Amstel part of Amsterdam. Highly recommended. The food also is great! Enjoy the mezedes

Disappointed with my first meal in Amsterdam. While seating was quick (table of 1), the service was slow; I waited about 10 minutes before waving a waiter to put in my order and ask for water. Unfortunately, the tigania tsipouro I ordered was incredibly bland, heavily lacking in salt, spices and proper browning on the pork. It ended up being a very dry dish tasting like boiled pork, I ordered an additional eggplant dip on the side to supplement some flavour. The restaurant itself is in a great location and I love the atmosphere - it would be great to have brunch here, but the dinner service does not live up to the expectations or the price.

Excellent Greek food! The variety of food from the beginning of the day to the end make it an ideal place to sit by the terrace during the summer with friends until the sunset by the Amstel. Recommended!

The local’s comprehensive bar/cafe/restaurant menu and location by the water make it an amazing place for a summer stop. If you can sit outside for the sunset by the Amstel, definitely recommended! The snacks and drinks make it worthwhile.

Great experience! We came to Amsterdam for a trip, and after spending time on the Amstel, we wanted a quick bite to eat. The food was super fresh and light, and the location was super central. An excellent stop, and Aaron's service was excellent.

I ordered a frappe, which was listed as €3.95 on the menu, but I was charged €8.60. I only noticed this after I got home. I won’t be coming back here again.
