KAIA Contemporary Greek in Scheldebuurt

We arrive quite late and even though the kitchen was closing in 15m they served us and told us not to rush and helped us with the menu. The waiter was very kind, informative, and professional and helpful to us. The food was made in good time and was very delicious. It can be quite expensive but I think it is worth it. Very nice place, extremely friendly and welcoming staff, very good food.

I arrived around 9 PM, just half an hour before the kitchen closed, but the staff and managers were still incredibly welcoming. Kaia was so spotless, I actually walked into a window thinking it was the door! 😂 The food was outstanding. The homemade bread came out warm, and the tzatziki instantly transported me back to Greece—fresh, vibrant, and perfectly balanced. The glaze on the ribeye was a touch too sweet for my palate, but overall, it was an excellent experience. Highly recommended!

The dishes would have been good, but none of them were warm, and the plates were cold. We found the staff unfriendly and impatient. In our opinion, the price-performance ratio was not right.

I don't know why the rating is so high. It's a restaurant with a reasonable price range, but the staff's service mind and store management style were not so good. The food wasn't bad, but it didn't have a huge impact, so I don't think I'll visit again. It seems like they need to equip themselves with a service mind that matches the price range.

Excellent dishes that take us to other Greek flavors

Not your average Greek restaurant.

Mediocre. The only food i was “wowed” by was the dessert. The owner was very defensive when mentioning something that tasted burned. Staff did not even speak a word of Greek which is a pity if you advertise this sort of kitchen. For the price of food dishes they are asking for I would have expected much more. There are other more authentic Greek cuisines with a twist. I won’t come back unfortunately.

Absolutely amazing, best restaurant we've been to in 3 years in Amsterdam. The bread was the best bread I've had in my life. Meat platter was delicious and the cabbage filled with the cream rice was incredible. All dishes were great, the atmosphere and service were top notch; we will definitely be back.

The food was downright good and the atmosphere was great, unfortunately the service was of a very questionable level, poor explanation of the dishes, wines that were on the menu but were not there or did not know what kind of wines they were, during the meal not even interested in how it tasted, long search when we wanted to order something. After the meal nice with coffee, no decaf, asked something about the liqueurs, yes we have two, but did not know exactly what it was And then ask for the bill, you get a receipt pressed into your hands and she also says the amount, normally you give it in a folder and you can think calmly about the tip To top it all off, a piece of advice about the cutlery, meat must be cut with a steak knife not with a butter knife and what was completely strange, a metal tray where my meat was on ,,, the food was already cold before I had cut it and then that sound of a bread knife on a metal tray ,, very unfortunate because the food was very tasty

The 5 of us went to eat at this restaurant. The dishes are somewhat smaller than you would expect at a Greek restaurant. However, this is not an 'ordinary' Greek. These are special meals that are prepared in a different form and even though we are not gourmets, we certainly appreciated them. The food was great. The service is very friendly. Nice atmosphere, very nice restaurant. And good music from a high-quality sound system.

The meat was very delicious, I want to come again.

Seated in front of the bar and it was nice to see the action. The rack of lamb was out of this world tender. One of the best lambs I have had. The beard was a star appetizer too. Worth the EUR9 for the beard, fig butter and mint-infused olive oil. The mackerel appetizer didn’t quite hit the spot for me as the fish was a tad too salty.

Exceptionally slow service. 2 hours 20 minutes for a two course dinner on a Tuesday. Part of the dinner was burnt. Very small portions. The sparkling water was not cold.

Good food, good prices, great service

Outstanding food. Friendly staff. Very loud: impossible to have a conversation. The food was creative and tasty from the intro bread and meze course (recommended while you wait to order), through the appetizers to the main courses. This is definitely high end Greek cooking. Family style sharing is encouraged. Rather good wine by the glass, although the descriptions were a little rudimentary. Friendly staff - they were kinda enough to charge my phone, too. €235 for three, plus tip (requested at payment time). The noise level is very high. That aside, I'd happily go back.

Had a delicious meal at Kaia, the bread beforehand was exceptionally tasty. The ribeye and sea bass were also delicious, beautifully served and the service is modern and at the same time old-fashioned professional. A small point for improvement is that the music could be a bit quieter.

Shame. We had planned a nice Valentine's evening, but unfortunately it was disappointing. Indicating in the reservation and upon arrival that I eat vegetarian, and then being served an appetizer with minced meat, I think is really not done for this price! Ultimately it was handled well, but was then given an ice-cold cheese tart as a main course. It's a real shame because the taste of the food is certainly not the fault. Service slow. After receiving the receipt, we had to wait exactly 21 minutes for someone to come with the ATM. Once and never again for us, unfortunately.

True to their name - contemporary Greek kitchen. Balanced and delicious tastes, good service and worth every bit of the meal. 2 of us had lunch with 4 shared dishes and house wine (cheapest on their list) and it was like a party. Definitely recommend and come back again.

Food is really tasty, but the menu card is designed horribly, starters are mixed with dishes. If it requires 2 separate waiters to come of theit own volition and explain dish sizes, and in the end mess up the order and bring wrong dishes, maybe it's not the best design. On top during payment waiter charged me "by accident" 66 € instead of 55 € which unfortunately I realized only next day.

The food was excellent! The Greek cuisine was interpreted in a modern and creative way, which truly impressed us. The entire team was extremely professional, friendly, and attentive – you feel completely taken care of. We’ve been here twice already and are looking forward to coming back on our next visit to Amsterdam. PS: Just one small thing – the meat could have been warmer. If we had called at 8:25 PM to see if we could be there fifteen minutes later, it wouldn't have been a problem, but in the end we waited for our table until 9:20 PM and were not even offered a drink. Then ordered food, it was delicious, but portions were very small, bread for tzatziki was old and they had forgotten a main course, which eventually came more than 20 minutes later... not even an apology from the service or a question if we wanted something to drink, so we we just left. It's a real shame, because it's potentially a nice place with good dishes…

We had a very pleasant evening, but for 150 euros per person it was disappointing. We had the 6 course dinner. Taste varied. Fig butter, moussaka, kohlrabi leaves with fish, lamb and dessert were delicious. Lamb was very small portion (lots of bone, little meat). Paloma cocktail came in very large glass and tasted watery. Service was friendly. Water may be refilled more quickly. Music too loud, or poor acoustics. Lighting is very dim.

We had a wonderful evening here. The interior of Kaia is very beautiful, nice seats, and a warm atmosphere. The service is also excellent, and the gentlemen also clean your table neatly between courses. Tasty Greek dishes that are beautifully presented. Delicious bread in advance. The rib-eye was excellently prepared and the sea bass is also recommended. And the yogurt dessert with caramel was the perfect ending. 😊 Perfect for a date. It is really worth visiting Kaia!

The house-baked sourdough is a perfect match with balsamic and olive oil, while the brioche shines alongside the sweet-salty fig butter. The lamb fricassee was exceptionally tender, flavorful, and juicy. Peculiar desserts. Fair wine selection. Pleasant music and an attentive staff complement the experience.

Extremely rude treatment from the young men in charge, sneaky looks with complete insolence, especially when we were leaving the restaurant. I absolutely do not advise anyone to go there.

Firstly, Ideally you would not want to visit the place as a large group (we were a reservation of 6), as the portions and menu would definitely not be enough to satisfy your hunger and will just leave you wanting more, which can be understandable as the place doesnt seem to be suitable for a complete dining experience for more than two people. We ordered the whole menu and some plates twice. Additionally, honestly the quality of the food was quite subpar compared to how the restaurant tries to market itself. Finally, as a Greek person if you decide to keep your food menu as it is you should remove the word "Greek" from your restaurant name as it is nowhere near greek cuisine qualitywise and as plate selections. Secondly, despite the restaurant being open until 1am we were informed after the fact that the kitchen would be closing from 9:30am and whether we liked it or not that is the policy. Again this would be fine but it would be preferable to know beforehand considering the place presents that its open until 1am and we made a prepaid reservation almost a month before. Finally, the most disappointing highlight of our night was towards the end of the dinner as the owner and the staff became quite hostile by giving us, the customers, mean looks as we were overstaying the night! This made us feel quite unwelcomed and uneasy and I assume that was because we just asked about the kitchen working hours and whether we could be at least be served some desert which we were denied of it anyway. Overall,the quality of the food was average, owner was extremely unprofessional as I have never seen an owner treating customers like they owe him, but at least the waiters were quite friendly and accomodating. Would not recommend and would not visit again. Hope this feedback helps you be better if you supposedly want to run a fine dining "Greek" restaurant.

Very good restaurant, perfect for returning from the RAI! The food was excellent however the portions very small, compared to the price! The service is very good, however we felt rushed by the waiter who came too regularly to ask us if we wanted water, wine, if we had made our choice, if we needed advice... (all this in 10 minutes). However, the experience was still successful! A good address to remember.

Our hesitation was quickly dissolved by a warm welcome & a nice selection of Greek and other wines as well as creative cocktails. The staff was attentive & not snobby at all despite the location being a bit more on the upscale side. The tartar was on point and the creative take on a Greek salad was satisfying. We had one of the vegetarian options as a main course, which was delicious. As for the meat and fish options, they sounded/looked nice & the guest are able to see the grilling/cooking process through the open kitchen concept. The only small inconvenience was that the music was a little too loud inside. All in all am happy to come back next time, I’m in Amsterdam.

It was awfuuul exprerience, today we came to the restaurant, we wanted to try some mediterian sea food. . And from the beginning waitor made us to feel that we are not suitable to this place🙄. (I understand we were more sporty style) but he could say about dresscode . Waitor said that this is conceptual restaurant ... and we tried to understand what does it mean... what he put in this words. But ye, we left quickly. . For me this place it's total mocking of greek mentality and greek cuisine.

Very unprofessional service! When we arrived, we were asked if we were sure we were in the right place, which was confusing and off-putting. One staff member rudely suggested that the food wasn't suitable for us and recommended trying pasta and pizza from a neighboring restaurant instead. We were so taken aback by their behavior that we decided not to order anything. The whole experience was terrible!

Ate at kaia today. Got a great picture via Instagram, but in reality it was quite disappointing. Chicken was extremely dry and waiting time was 55 minutes. We clearly indicated this and the chicken was removed from the bill. Very attentive. Still, we find the restaurant disappointing, but this obviously has to do with our own expectations… based on the way the restaurant profiles itself on Instagram.
