This is a restaurant in Amsterdam that you can find open after 10 PM and where you can enjoy delicious Turkish food. Yahya Bey, who has been running it for 30 years, is also a very pleasant person to talk to.

Without a doubt the BEST shawarma in the Netherlands! It is unbelievable how delicious this shawarma is. Juicy meat, seasoned just right, and large portions. The owner is a great guy.

As a tourist, it’s hard to find a good / clean / high quality kebab / shwarma place that is certified halal. Hayran is a clean and amazing tasting family restaurant with a rich history of 27 years. The prices aren’t extortionate like some tourist traps here in the center of Amsterdam. The owner is very hospitable and considerate and offered Turkish tea on the house. Would definitely come back.

I ate a shawarma sandwich here in Amsterdam, and I can safely say that this is the best shawarma in the Netherlands. The lamb was deliciously tender and full of flavor. The sauce was excellent and paired perfectly with the meat. What really topped it all off was the homemade bread; fresh, soft, and incredibly tasty. Additionally, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The place was also clean and tidy, which is always a big plus. All in all, a great experience. Delicious shawarma and always friendly, even at 1:30 at night!

The sandwich is too small for the price (pita). I really expected more. The service is really good, but mainly the quantity is insufficient.

It was very warm inside, which made it less comfortable. Additionally, I found the portions quite small in relation to the price. The service, on the other hand, was quick.

This restaurant is one of the best places I remember from Amsterdam. The staff were very friendly, and everything we ate was delicious. We loved the sauces, soups, meat-filled flatbread, kebabs, everything. Their baklava was also fresh and very tasty (a rare quality for baklava!). The price was very reasonable considering the service they provided. I hope they continue with this excellent service; they get full marks from me. 👍🏻

This was my first time here. I had always heard positive stories that they are one of the best shawarma places in Amsterdam. I ordered a shawarma platter with Adana. It was indeed very tasty and exceeded my expectations. The Adana was the best I have eaten in the Netherlands so far: not greasy and nicely spicy, exactly as the waitress had indicated. My partner ordered a shawarma sandwich. This looked good too. The bread is homemade and is quite large compared to other places. The only downside for me is the location: parking is difficult and the parking fees are expensive.

Yesterday, I visited this restaurant expecting a pleasant and high-quality dining experience. Unfortunately, I must conclude that my visit was very disappointing and unprofessional on several levels. Upon entering, I was confronted with an extremely unpleasant and disrespectful approach by a female employee, estimated to be between 30 and 35 years old. Her demeanor was visibly distant, and her manner of looking at and communicating with customers demonstrated a lack of basic decency and customer focus. What surprised me in particular is that this attitude was adopted not only towards new guests but also towards individuals who are apparently considered regular customers. This raises serious questions about the general service culture within this establishment. After my visit, I consulted several reviews, and to my surprise, this behavior appears not to be an isolated incident. On the contrary, several other guests describe similar experiences regarding unfriendliness and a lack of respect from the staff. This points to a structural problem that is apparently not being addressed by management. Furthermore, I would like to explicitly point out the financial handling, which can be qualified as at the very least non-transparent and misleading. Extra costs or so-called “contributions” are added without this being clearly communicated in advance. This lack of transparency creates the impression that customers are being deliberately misled and are unfairly required to pay extra. In a professional hospitality establishment, pricing ought to be clear and honest; that was absolutely not the case here. In summary, I can state that this restaurant falls short on essential points such as customer friendliness, professionalism, and transparency. The combination of disrespectful behavior by staff and questionable pricing practices means that I cannot recommend this location. Potential visitors would do well to be aware of these experiences before making a reservation or dining here.

Arrived with a stroller and was refused because the staff didn't want to make the effort to move tables/chairs. A shame, because I had a good experience earlier without a stroller. Not welcoming.

We were just about to come for dinner and they said they don't allow people with children. First and last time. The food isn't great either.

After eating my shawarma sandwich here with joy for over 25 years, last night was a disaster. This is the only place where I could eat only shawarma of good quality until yesterday. Last night, I felt unwell immediately after eating the sandwich, and that lasted the entire night and morning. Nauseous, stomach cramps. And the bowls of sambal, which were more empty than full, also indicate a decline in service. Just like the sandwiches, which have been filled much less for about 2 months now. I have learned my lesson. The Hayran of the old days is gone. Very disappointing!!

They put the leftovers from other dishes in yours; it's so blatant. What's more, the owner told his waitress not to throw away the leftovers because you threw them away, and she replied, "But it was sauced, that's why I threw it away." We were offered tea in dirty glasses, glasses that had been drunk just before with other customers. At least take the time to rinse them with water. In short, it's very serious to do this. The restaurant is beautiful, but now we understand why, with the cost-cutting measures you're taking.

Called to pick up a pizza with a topping within 10 minutes. The pizza was 14-15 euros on the website. It was ready on time. When paying, it turned out the pizza cost €19.90 because apparently old prices were listed online. An extra topping turned out to cost 3.50 on a 30cm pizza. Instead of pepperoni, I received a few small slices of Turkish supermarket salami. The pizza was very thinly topped and the crust tasted mediocre. Not worth the money for such an expensive pizza that barely filled me up. The garlic sauce is watery. The price cannot be explained by the ingredients, taste, service (costs), or location.

Very small durum with 80% salad and one kebab stick for €13. Atmosphere, seating area and service are great.

We ordered warm lentil soup with bread .. it was very fresh. We also ordered falafel sandwich.. which was made in-house as per the server.The server was very kind to my friend with disability too. Very polite. The place is comfortable and accessible. Must go.

Me and my friend went here late on a Friday night (17/10) after a local bar. We greeted by a really lovely and friendly waitress. She couldn’t have been any nicer. We ordered spicy mince Adana and the chicken wings. It seemed a little pricey but when it arrived the portions were huge! We were so happy as we had skipped dinner. The food was so tasty and delicious! We had such a great meal here, I’ve saved the location for next time I visit Amsterdam!

I don't write reviews often, but I just had to share this. What's particularly striking about Hayran is the lack of attention and service. The staff often comes across as disinterested and distant, even to regular customers. The communication is also a bit lacking. When I called recently, they said they don't deliver, even though their website indicates they do, but only via Uber. That comes across as a bit disinterested. The interior has been renovated and looks nice, but for the prices they're charging, they could definitely use more attention and engagement. There's also something to be said about the food, but I won't comment on that. Not a positive experience for me. In short: beautiful on the outside but distant on the inside. It's a shame, because I used to enjoy coming here. Hopefully, they'll improve on this in the future, but I won't be back.

Got a durum lamb shoarma on my way home and this had to be the driest meat I have ever eaten. The only good thing were the bread and sauces.

The servers are fantastic; they maintain eye contact with their customers and are quick to present menus and take orders. The shawarma platter is exceptionally delicious, fresh, and the plate is well-filled. Bread and sauce are served as a starter. A great spot. We made a special detour for this. It's also a quiet restaurant.

I got takeaway, was trying to find a place that did good chicken kebabs and this place had good review scores. I ordered 2 large chicken and 1 standard chicken kebabs, and a portion fries. First of all when I got them home and opened them, I realised how tiny the standard kebabs were. It’s not a portion, it was suitable maybe for a 5yr old who’s not hungry. See attached photo. Secondly there is literally nothing in the bread apart from weird bits of slightly dry meat. No sauce, no salad, nothing. Bizarre. Thirdly, it’s not chicken, it was dark brown - like over fried minced beef. Fourthly it cost just under €40. The small ones were €10, they’re worth about €5. It’s like slightly bigger than a taco. I think this was one of the worst takeaways I’ve ever had. I’m baffled by how the reviews seem overall such a high score, but it seems like that’s from years ago. I would seriously avoid, this is expensive and bad.

Delicious Update 2025: They were closed for a long time, and apparently they used that time to come up with a new price list. The shawarma tastes fine, but for this price, I'd rather eat somewhere else.

Hayran Shoarma has recently been renovated and now looks very modern and well-maintained. The food is, as always, excellent. I recommend everything with shoarma, and especially the Pollo ai Funghi. In the past, I came here once or twice a week, simply because the food and service are always good. The owner is friendly and very helpful, and the restaurant itself is clean and tidy. Although the location is a bit hidden, it's often pleasantly busy in the evenings with many regulars who know the place. My advice: try it once; you won't regret it.

After visiting here with my girlfriend I had diarrhea and she had cramps all night. I spoke to the owner but he didn't take me seriously. Hopefully the people who follow me will take it seriously. (Don't jump to blackmail if I offered you an option, this is the truth and it is sometimes hard)

Today I came by for the first time after the renovation. It looks beautiful, especially the ceiling. The food was great as always. For us, pollo ai Fungi and pollo pepe verde are number 1. The children always take pizza shoarma and fries. The pizza was deliciously full of ingredients. The Turkish pide was also delicious with fresh salad. The menu is enriched with Mojito drinks! Hayran has recently been renovated and is finally open again. The first thing I noticed when I wanted to order something again, are the prices. When I came to eat almost 3x a week 3-4 years ago, I could still afford it with the prices. If I want to order something for me and my wife now, I almost have to apply for a loan from the bank. No matter how delicious it is, I can unfortunately only come by once a week.

1. Very tasty food, especially the oven and grill dishes, such as (chicken) shoarma special, lamb chops, oven spaghetti. 2. Dishes via delivery come with loose bread, so ask for it to be wrapped in aluminum foil, it is hygienic. For the rest they are hygienic enough. Enough seating, good audience and atmosphere. It costs a bit, but it also tastes good.

I have been coming to Hayran for the best shawarma for more than 15 years. I grew up in Amsterdam and now live near Leiden, but I will drive back for this shawarma! Currently in a temporary location, I found out, but the taste and quality are still as I have come to expect from Yahya!

Lamb shawarma is not that good, but everything else is very nice.

Sauce is reused, hygiene is not good at all, neither are prices. Based on feedback from the owner, I saw with my own eyes how the sauce was grabbed from a table and poured over all the sauces.

Quality is good and consistent, but a small shawarma sandwich of 6 by 6 cm. For 9.95 is really not okay. A large sandwich, much larger for 11.95. Is not in proportion. Smaller sandwich should be bigger or price lower, a medium size would also be nice, otherwise tasty food.

But if you supposedly fill a large shawarma sandwich with 20 grams of flaky meat. More air and bread than meat for more than 10 euros...then it is very bad. Miniature pita with meat, without lettuce, tomato, etc., for 7.95? Real? Meat is bone dry and pita is from the supermarket (the small one). Very small portion and not seasoned at all. Almost illegal to allow this.

The location of the restaurant is in a nice place. The owner is a very caring brother. The sharma was incredibly delicious. If I come to Amsterdam again, I will definitely visit it.

Stopped in after midnight for some late night eats and glad I did! The kefte and shoarma pitas were absolutely delicious, so much so that we went back again the next night. They pack the pita totally full, I did the spicy and garlic sauces as recommended and they go great together. Plan to bring some cash as backup if you don't have a European credit card (and maybe do a bit of pointing at what you want if you struggle with common languages) but everyone was very friendly about it. Thanks for the great food!
