Herberg-Restaurant "De Boswachter" in Wijk 06 Slenaken

Nice, family-friendly restaurant on the edge of the village. Friendly service and a good menu. We had the set menu and it was tasty, but very large portions. We also went back for lunch and enjoyed it.

We visited this place because it was supposed to be 'unique'. Unfortunately, our expectations were higher than what we got. Upon entering, the barmaid, who was also the waitress, was working, but she couldn't manage a direct greeting or a smile. We ordered two cappuccinos, which weren't very good. You can also see in the photos that the milk wasn't frothed properly and it tasted watery. We then ordered an elderberry tart anyway; it was decent, but the base was soggy and not as crispy as you would expect. Finally, we paid 11 euros to continue our journey. For us, a one-time experience.

We have often had a drink here after a walk, but unfortunately that was not possible yesterday. After sitting on the terrace for 20 minutes and ordering our drinks (sweating in the sun), we were given the very hospitable message that you were now only allowed to sit there provided you also ordered food …… Unfortunately, that is no longer true Limburg hospitality.

Cozy-looking restaurant: both outside and inside. Based on the positive reviews, we decided to eat here. The menu doesn't really offer anything original. But anyway, if the dishes *are* prepared with love, you won't hear me complain. However, that was quite a disappointment! The young lady who took our order was friendly. The young man who served us was uninterested and later got into an argument with other guests over the dessert. The food was very mediocre. The trout was not fresh (packaged) and was served unimaginatively, and THE local dish, namely hachée, tasted bland, containing not even fresh mushrooms, but preserved ones. Because you can taste it! Very unfortunate. Moreover, the main course arrived while my dining companion and I hadn't even finished our starters yet. As a result, we left half of it untouched. Perhaps we were there on the wrong day (Mother's Day), but as far as we are concerned, it is not worth repeating.

We stopped here for coffee and pie. We were welcomed kindly and served quickly. The pie was very tasty and the coffee tasted good. Moreover, it is a beautiful, cozy little terrace!

Given the Google reviews, we had no expectations, but we were pleasantly surprised. Helpful and cheerful staff. The food, the chef's menu with beef tenderloin, was very tasty and had unusually generous portions. All in all, highly recommended! We will definitely be back.

What a lovely spot, and we had a delicious meal! Unfortunately, they aren't open tomorrow evening, otherwise we would go again. Definitely recommended for dining; it was Sunday evening and we hadn't made a reservation, but it's better to do so!

We were on a tour through South Limburg with our group of friends. Naturally, we were thirsty and hungry along the way, so we stopped here. As a group of 12, we were not allowed to sit outside and absolutely forbidden to move tables around (sitting at loose tables wouldn't have worked out for us anyway), and they preferred not to have us inside either. Very unfriendly. We quickly drove on to Hotel Gerardushoeve, where we were received in a customer-friendly manner.

We had a wonderful meal here during Easter. A lovely restaurant with super friendly staff and exquisite dishes.

We visit De Boswachter in Slenaken with some regularity to enjoy a nice craft beer or a bite to eat. Every time, we were served to our full satisfaction, however, until yesterday, Sunday, February 22, 2026. It started right away when we wanted to take a seat on the terrace. As we sat down, the waitress slammed a "reserved" sign onto the table. We then took a seat at a table where there wasn't such a sign yet. Here, we were completely ignored by the unfriendly waitress. After waiting for about 20 minutes, I went inside to ask if we could order something, to which the reply was that they would be right there. Finally, after waiting another fifteen minutes, we got up and left. Thanks, Boswachter 👍👍👍😉

We had a wonderful meal last Sunday. The menu isn't exceptional, but there's plenty of choice, and the food is delicious. Delicious house white wine. Kudos to the hard-working and friendly staff. We'll be back soon.

Enjoyed a delicious cappuccino with a piece of Limburg pie. The pie was served with fresh whipped cream. Both the coffee and the pie were delicious. The interior looks cozy, and the service was very friendly and prompt.

A very homey, cozy atmosphere. Friendly service. The pie is enormous and has a delicious base, a real Limburg pie. A generous dollop of whipped cream. Coffee comes with a mini ice cream cookie with whipped cream. Given the many reservations, the food is probably also delicious. We had coffee and chocolate milk from Nutricia with whipped cream, along with two pies.

Great location and friendly staff, unfortunately the food was a bit disappointing. The brie sandwich is literally just brie (no honey or walnuts like usual), but you still pay €9.50. They don't have a huge selection anyway, just the standard options. Fine for a quick drink, but I wouldn't recommend it for food.

A delicious lunch was very tasty. Friendly staff, beautiful location! The carpaccio baguette was truly amazing. The fried eggs came with plain bread, which could have used better bread.

It took over fifteen minutes before we were helped. The staff wasn't exactly friendly. There were a lot of wasps on the patio. The bittergarnituur (a type of snack) was the most expensive I've ever ordered, and unfortunately, the worst. No bitterbal, but 5 frikandellen (fried meatballs), 2 nasi balls (nasi balls), 1 cheese thing, 2 "vlametjes" (small sausages), and something I couldn't identify. Mayonnaise and a different mayo sauce; no mustard or chili sauce, unfortunately.

Yes, this is a top location! We enjoyed delicious coffee and Limburgse Vlaai (Limburg pie). Very friendly service. Lovely large outdoor terrace. We'll be back. It's a great base for hiking (use the Komoot app). There's a very spacious parking lot right across from this place.

We had a wonderful meal here on the terrace in the evening sun. The skewers with tenderloin and pork tenderloin were tender and flavorful. The salmon was also excellent. We've eaten here before when we're on vacation, and the food is always top-notch! The price-quality ratio is also excellent.

We had a delicious meal here with the MTC Zevenbergen, despite the large group everyone had their food at the same time... and they like well-filled plates so even the big eater will be satisfied.

As so often in South Limburg, the prices are on the high side. The terrace can be quite noisy. It took quite a while before the drinks arrived.

Our annual visit during the Amstel Gold Race. Before the passage on the Loorberg, coffee and pie. After passing a good glass of beer. Delicious pie, very friendly and the asparagus soup smelled delicious.

The terrace is great. You can park your car across the street for free and take a lovely walk from there. Enjoy the terrace after the walk.

Wow, they have Peeze coffee here, super tasty. The cherry pie was also delicious. And friendly people in the service!!

We thought it was very mediocre. Meat fried very dry. Also got the wrong thing for everything. But agreed anyway. We got an extra bowl of fries for it. Which was also necessary. Quite a cozy tent. But for that price you can eat better in the area.

December 23 with my daughter I unexpectedly arrived and ate, lovely living room feeling, delicious food. Friendly staff, you really feel welcome here.

Cozy restaurant in Slenaken, which sits on the edge of the road before you drive up a hill. Nice small building with the appearance of a forest house/mushroom house in terms of colors and furnishings. With beautiful dry and warm days, it is pleasantly busy here and you can enjoy a delicious lunch at Dutch standards. Keep in mind that it can be very busy in the summer, which means it fills up quickly and people have a long lunch (logical). Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Came here for lunch with my sisters on a lovely, sunny Sunday afternoon. They are in a beautiful location where many cyclists and walkers pass by. All three of us ordered a sandwich and a drink. Nothing to complain about here either! The employees were also friendly, but unfortunately that was it. They were rarely present on the terrace and we also had to go inside to pay. This is the only point of improvement, otherwise everything was fine!

Very cozy, nice and busy (lots of walkers, cyclists, motorcyclists), free parking. Very tasty fresh asparagus soup, with lots of pieces of asparagus in it, delicious! Carpaccio sandwich was also very tasty. And what a very nice, friendly lady at the counter (the young lady with the very short, blonde hair), she really completes it. You would wish an employee like that on any catering company, great!

Nice location with beautiful terrace. Very friendly staff. Cyclists welcome. Tables inside are a bit close together, so it sometimes takes some measuring and adjusting.

Just sat inside for half an hour, still no help.. In the meantime, other guests who arrive fifteen minutes later are being helped. My husband goes to the bar to ask if we can be helped, so no one comes to you fifteen minutes later, scandalous!! Tip: if you can't handle it, hire extra staff!
