Herengracht in Grachtengordel-Zuid

First impression was awful. Staff is snob and unprofessional. It took between 10-15 mins before we got our drinks. If it wasn't for the attitude it would have been a 4 star review. They made the place feel cold and unwelcoming. They had a change of staff while we were at our table and the young server was much much nicer.

A nice place where you can sit by the canal and enjoy some time. We happened to stop by, had a couple of beers, and ordered some calamari. The service was quick and the atmosphere was nice. The calamari was a little too salty, but the portion was generous and overall it was tasty.

I was there on Saturday, 5th of September, the waiters outside provided a very rude and arrogant service.

The place is well located, nice view and deck, a shame that the capuccino was basically water with a drop of milk. But even worse was the service of the staff. Very rude and took them like 30 min to even say hi and ask us for the order. I don’t know if it’s because we’re tourists, but if you are, maybe better to find another place. There’s plenty around.

To conclude our Amsterdam trip, we wanted to treat the five of us women to a coffee or drink and a bite to eat. The outdoor seating area was still empty, so we chose a table. Just as we were about to sit down, a waiter came out of the restaurant and pointed to the sign next to the entrance: "Please wait to be seated." We hadn't seen it because there was a street between the restaurant and the outdoor seating area. The message came across as very unfriendly. However, we were allowed to sit at our chosen table anyway. Then it was time to order. The first of us stated our drink and food order—and was immediately and rudely corrected: "First, just drinks!" The order arrived fairly quickly, and the drinks were okay; the food (Burata) was quite alright. While we were sitting, other guests arrived. They simply sat down at the tables as well—and no one was reprimanded like we were. Furthermore, the tables weren't clean—even though the restaurant had just opened. The service definitely needs improvement.

A delicious meal was had by all! Amber was our server. She made outstanding recommendations and was extremely patient with all of our questions. My hamburger was so delicious and the apple pie was the very best in town. Thank you Amber for making our meal very enjoyable!

Really disappointing experience from start to finish. The service was incredibly inattentive — we waited around 15 minutes just to order, while several staff members were around but nobody seemed to notice us. Eventually, I practically had to stop a waiter myself just to place our order. Later, we decided to add the loaded fries. Since there was basically no chance of getting anyone’s attention outside, I went inside to order them. The staff member I approached was quite rude and simply told me to order with her colleague outside, even though the colleague who had already taken our order was literally standing right behind her. He added the fries to our order, but we received plain fries with a little mayonnaise instead of the loaded fries. I know I ordered the loaded fries because I specifically mentioned the truffle mayo when ordering, which is part of that dish. When I pointed out that they were wrong, instead of simply fixing the mistake, the waiter insisted that I had ordered regular fries. On top of that, the fries arrived before our drinks. We actually had to ask where our drinks were before they finally brought them over. And to finish off an already terrible lunch, my coffee arrived without any sugar. Mistakes happen, but the combination of being ignored, having to actively chase staff to order, receiving the wrong food and then being told that I had ordered it incorrectly made the whole experience extremely frustrating. Definitely not the level of service I would expect when going out for coffee and fries….

I just went to this place, and left directly. The spot looked nice so i decided to ask if they have coffee available. I sat on the table and when the waiter passed by I said hi, he said the same, and just walked past me. No other comment, no saying something that he will be back or anything like that. Just totally ignored me. I wonder how this place has customers if the waiters are so rude and dead inside towards the people. I would expect a more human attitude and more politeness. No wonder I hear so many complaints about the bad service in this city.

Yesterday I went to see Amsterdam, and I found this tavern. It was packed outside, but empty inside. I ate well, I ate a lot of meat. I'm glad I went to this place.

Ate here for dinner, nicely situated but that's about it. The service was slightly rude. We waited an hour for the food since they forgot about our order. Prices were too high for the quality of food served.

Unfriendly staff, skip this and find something better

The place is nicely decorated, has a pleasant location, and the food was generally tasty. However, the service was a disappointment for us. Upon arrival, a man (possibly the owner's son) seemed to constantly interfere with the waitresses' work, making the service seem chaotic. During our visit, we saw him repeatedly making cocktails for himself behind the bar, while we and other guests had to wait quite a long time for our drinks. The desserts were of varying quality. The apple pie was very tasty, but the brownie was dry, hard-baked, and lacked flavor. We also noticed a large difference in quantity with the cocktails, even though they were the same price. What bothered us most was the atmosphere at the end of the evening. We had to wait longer for dessert than for the main course, even though only a few tables were occupied. Meanwhile, the chef came out of the kitchen and stood at the bar, and we overheard a conversation in which it was made clear that they would have preferred to close earlier to watch the football final, but that this was not possible because there were still customers seated. As a result, we no longer really felt welcome. In short: a beautiful location and good food, but the service and professional appearance could have been better for us.

Nice location and a pleasant atmosphere. The wine and appetizers were delicious, and most of the staff were friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the service provided by one employee was very disappointing (unfortunately, that was the very person serving our table). As a result, we did not feel truly welcome, and that was ultimately the reason for us to forgo dinner at the restaurant afterwards and go eat somewhere else. We found that a shame, because otherwise the place made a good impression and the food at the other tables looked good and appetizing.

Posted closing time 12 am. Tried to visit just before 10:30 and was turned away. Edit your hours if you truly aren’t open until 12, let alone 11. Gladly took our € elsewhere

Food was delicious, vibes were top tier, and I felt well taken care of. I’m not sure why so many people have complaints about service in these reviews, but I’d take them with a grain of salt... I had an amazing dinner experience.

I only had a beer, which came at 8,00€ for the bottle. The service was friendly and fast, but what really let the experience down was the overall impression. Charging 8,00€ for a bottle of beer is fine, especially in such a prime location, but the standards should match the price. The coaster for my beer was dirty and filthy. The glass I was served was in very poor condition, with chips broken out of the rim and small cracks near where your lips touch the glass, which could easily cause cuts. If you’re charging 8,00€ for a bottle of beer, this kind of double standard on hygiene isn’t acceptable. I strongly recommend improvements to cleanliness and safety standards.

Unreasonable pricing, extremely small portion on both food and drink. Not worthwhile at all.

The salmon club sandwich is to die for, even with the gluten free bun. There is a small selection of food for celiacs. Service is very pleasant. Their cider is also excellent. There is good seating inside and good seating outside against the canal, good for people watching or just taking in the vibes.

We stopped here for our first lunch on our trip to Amsterdam and loved the fries and bitterballen by the canal so decided to drop back for our last meal yesterday ... what a mistake! We were seated just inside the door as there were no available seats by the canal, which was fine. We ordered wine and starters (calamari and bitterballen) and mains (fish and chips and steak and fries) with a young waitress. Starters and wine arrived. Table next to us arrived after us and ordered food and drinks and were served long before we got our mains. Starters dishes and empty wine glasses sat on our table for a good half hour. We called a waiter over and complained about the delay and the lack of service and he claimed we should have called him if we wanted something. Were the empty plates and wine glasses on the table not enough to make him realise that a visit to the table was required?? After several queries with staff, the main courses eventually arrived. While the food was tasty, the delays and extremely unprofessional service ruined the experience of our last meal in Amsterdam. Cheesecake was offered as compensation, but we declined and requested that two of the glasses of wine be removed from the bill instead. Overall, food is tasty but some of staff need serious training - more awareness of tables they are serving and recognising when plates need to be cleared, drinks topped up etc. We were also not asked once if the food etc was OK.

The location is great, the seating is good, the staff are polite, and the drinks are good. You can sit there to relax. The apple pie was excellent.

I had waitress Mimi; she was very nice and did her very best. She recommended the salmon with the loaded fries as a starter with the Pinot Grigio, which was delicious. The food was delicious; I definitely recommend this place.

The food was delicious. The service too. Eeke was very hospitable and helped me well with my order. She recommended the espresso martini and the loaded fries. It was very tasty. The loaded fries were exactly like at Fabel Friet. Definitely a place I recommend visiting. I will be back soon.

Whenever I come to Amsterdam, I always stop by for fish & chips. It's one of my favorite places. One portion is 20 euros. I recommend it. It's in the city center and easy to get around. There's a tram stop nearby.

We ate here 3 times in our week in Amsterdam - despite being good food we didn’t need a reservation and we liked the fact that it was obviously frequented by locals as well as tourists. It serves an amazing apple pie - different from but rivalling Winkel’s!

It's an incredibly pleasant place by the canal. I especially recommend it on sunny days. The only downside is that the tables are very close together, so it's not very comfortable. Since there was no space outside, we sat inside first, and they told us they would let us know when a table became available outside. Afterwards, despite some confusion, we were able to sit outside as well. They had initially offered us seats inside and then suggested we move outside, but they were a bit annoyed with us because of the mix-up. Apart from that, the Dutch Negroni and Avocado Toast were delicious.

The food is ok, but the service is absolutely TERRIBLE. We waited for the first round more than 30 min (1 beer + 1 wine). After that, we ordered some snacks and cocktails, the snacks arrived before the drinks. After ordering a second round of drinks we waited more than 25 mins for a second wine, beer was forgotten, food arrived again before drinks. Also the chubby guy (who I think was the owner bc of his attitude, told me after saying we were missing a wine that I was not the only one at the bar). I waited more than 45 mins for a wine. Bye.

The waitress told me she didn't have a microwave to reheat my son's meal. Clearly, that was a joke, so we didn't eat. Avoid at all costs.

The best burgers I've ever tasted

What a disappointment… We came here for the birthday of my friend. The waiter made the whole experience super unpleasant. It is ok to bring a small birthday cake at any restaurant in Amsterdam. This is the first time I received such a rude attitude about a stupid birthday cake. They also promise 1+1 cocktail deal between 9-10pm. But they refuse to take any cocktail orders during that time, saying “internet is gone we cannot take orders”. This was our 5th birthday gathering at this place because we had good times here. Unfortunately this was the last one.

Great location. They also serve Dutch wines! Food is alright. But the service was super slow. 10 mins to get a menu, 15 mins to get a drink and about 30 mins to get a sandwich. And it wasn’t even busy. Staff looked stressed and not particularly welcoming.

A beautiful place where I had breakfast one morning outdoors by the canal. It was full of people, you can tell it has history, and the special Dutch-style eggs I ordered are something I’ll remember for a long time.

The salmon at Restaurant Herengracht was truly perfectly prepared. Cooked beautifully golden brown on the outside and wonderfully tender and juicy on the inside. The flavor was refined and pure, without being overpowering, and was beautifully complemented by the fresh green sauce and crisp vegetables. Everything was perfect: the balance on the plate, the presentation, and the taste. Add to that the warm, cozy atmosphere and the view of the illuminated city, and you have a dish you'll remember. Absolutely recommended for anyone who appreciates well-prepared fish.

One of my favorite places to be. Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or a wind down session after a long office day with a good drink! The atmosphere is amazing and the people working there are the main reason for that. Friendly, always with a smile and happy to help in any way. Enjoy a drink in the garden by the fire is what I'd say. Cheers 🥂

Extremely disappointing experience, terrible service and complete lack of professionalism We visited this place as a group of five. The venue was almost empty. We found a table we liked and sat down, only to be told shortly after by a waitress that we were not allowed to sit there, without any reasonable explanation. She then instructed us to move to the upper floor. When we mentioned that we only wanted coffee, she informed us that the upper floor was for food only and told us to go downstairs to the basement, not the ground floor we had originally entered from. The basement was dark, empty, and clearly neglected. The bar on that floor was not operating, there were no other customers, and the area felt isolated, to the point where there was no mobile phone signal. The space was extremely dirty, with used glasses and plates left on surrounding tables, clearly cleaned only when someone is seated. After sitting down at a still dirty table, we waited over 10 minutes without being given menus. When someone finally approached us to ask for our order, I had to request a menu. We were then given one menu to share between five people, which is unacceptable. To make matters worse, the menu did not even list hot beverages or coffees. After another 15 minutes, someone finally came to take our order. The coffee itself was unacceptable. The service was embarrassing, the atmosphere was mediocre at best, and the overall impression was of bored, unmotivated staff with no interest whatsoever in providing proper customer service. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Hey there we sat on the front restaurant and we saw the huge rat and we call the staff and we explained everything then he just said that ıs normal ın the thıs place.The curly hair and blond staff charged us 40 € ,we paid for not reason even we haven’t drunk our drinks and we tell everyone we do not recommended this places they have huge rat and rude staff !

It's a beautiful spot to sit by the canal. But unfortunately, the value for money wasn't right. The snacks were "okay," but the wine was undrinkable for us. It's a shame, there are much better places in Amsterdam.

Enjoyed our dinner and beers here! We got the flammkuchen and the fish and chips, both were very good. Restaurant had several people waiting to order and be seated, but there was only 1 waitress running around cleaning up and taking orders while 2 other waiters sat upstairs at an empty table and did not help. A few people who sat down after us got up after waiting longer than 15 minutes to get their drinks. If you are okay with a bit of a wait, the food and drinks are good.

Beautiful bar next to a picturesque canal, near Bloemenmarkt. We had coffee and sat at the tables by the canal, very pretty. The staff is friendly.

Center from the city nice place agreable environment and food

Quiet evening when we came but felt busy enough and alive, has lots of seating and plenty of choices of food and drinks. Excellent food beautifully presented and all in a timely fashion. Only comment was the waiter had so many tables he was running around! But no mistakes made with anyone so have to commend his service.

Very expensive. you would be absolutely ripped off. Just for drinking a 0.5L Ijwit you would be charged 14 EURO! Literally double the price compare to any other place. Same for a Lellebel. We were there just for the drinks so my comment only covers the drinks. Update: they replied to my comment explaining that it's the standard price for those type of beers in Amsterdam. While this reply might look convincing for a tourist, for someone like me who has been living here for 5 years is just simply lying. 0.5 liter of Ijwit is around 8 Euro in any decent bar in Amsterdam. Not 14 Euro!

Fantastic location and delicious food

We chose to sit by a canal view table which was amazing. We had apple pie and caffe latte. Everything was delicious and service was smooth.

The restaurant was excellent, good service, everyone was friendly. The food was delicious.

We just had a drink on the terrace on a predicted hot day. Orders around us were repeatedly wrong. We were constantly being offered orders from other tables as well. We had to wait 20 minutes for our drinks.
