Friendly man but very poor sandwich. You pay €5.10 for a white sandwich with 1 small piece of eel. So little that I threw away part of the sandwich because otherwise you hardly taste anything. At Vishandel Centrum you get 2 pieces of eel for this price. Shame!

I came all the way to this charming spot for the best herring I've ever had! Just as I was about to order, I realized I'd forgotten my wallet—what a blunder! Despite the two-hour round trip to retrieve it, I can confidently say it was worth every minute. The staff, a warm and welcoming duo, created an atmosphere that reminded me of home, with a touch of familiarity that was hard to place. I never imagined herring could be served in a sandwich, but the combination was unexpectedly delicious. I ended up visiting a few more times during my stay and would love to return. A true hidden gem.

Have been there for a couple of times and this is one of the places from the downtown where almost all the time there is a line to the cash register. It's a simple kiosk from where you can get some pretty straight forward a couple of items menu - freshly salted fish like salmon and herring that could be served in a bun, with pickle and onion, there are also deep fried fish like cod fish, shrimps etc. You can buy also some hot and soft drinks. There is neither alcohol, nor beer in the place. There is a simple approach - simple serving in a napkin or the paper plate but it is extremely popular among the locals and tourists apparently. Great place to grab a quick snack on the go or to eat near the kiosk on some high tables installed for the visitors who want to eat their food near by. It looks like family business and the staff is professional and friendly. Even if there is a line to the kiosk they are working quickly and professionally.

If you want to discover a little Dutch snacking, this is the perfect place ++++ Herring or macroc sandwich, fried fish, it's excellent. At first glance, especially when you're not used to it, you hesitate. But don't think and go for it. It's surprising and very good. The manager is also very nice and can advise you if you have any questions. In any case, for us it was a good discovery.

Ottimo pranzo/spuntino nella zona del mercato dei fiori. Panino con aringa e Kibbelling assolutamente da provare. Tre o quattro tavoli senza sedie nei pressi del posto, spesso pieni ma con un ricambio veloce.

I visited this place yesterday, with good reason. I have a condition of my large intestine (Diverticular Disease), and in the morning I was having such severe cramping and overall pain emanating from my abdomen. It was almost debilitating, but then I remembered that I had briefly read about a Dutch national dish before my holiday, and that it is meant to be good for the stomach. I usually like fish, so I thought of giving it a go. WOW!! First of all, it is not even salty! Maybe only very mildly so. It is flavourful, and almost creamy in the mouth as I chewed. But beyond this: my pain was gone! The cramps which were preventing me from enjoying the wonderful city could not be felt, and for the first time in the entire day I felt comfortable enough to actually see more of the city before having to leave for my flight. I went back for seconds, and the owner was incredibly nice and told me briefly about the history, of the tradition going back hundreds of years. I looked this up afterwards and found it incredibly interesting. I am back in London now and I genuinely miss herring! I would highly recommend this to anyone. It really is delicious, and incredibly nutritious as well!

The stall has a long history, established in 1987, and has moved to a more modern location at Spui 7a to meet the latest standards. They pride themselves on using the freshest ingredients, and the herring is cut daily to ensure the best quality. Besides herring, they offer a variety of other fish, including shrimps, mackerel, salmon, and fried codfish, which might be worth trying if herring isn't your thing. Recently, they introduced a new box packing, which helps to keep the herring intact for those who want to take it home. This attention to detail in their service is commendable. The stall's central location near popular tourist spots like Dam Square and the Flower Market makes it a convenient stop for a quick, authentic Dutch snack. Overall, while the herring wasn't to my taste, the service and quality of food at Jonk Volendammer Haringhandel are excellent, making it a recommended spot for those who enjoy traditional Dutch fish dishes.

Definitely more of a tourist trap than anything. It's on the more pricey side considering the Kibbeling was microwaved. The herring sandwich was okay at best. Location is convenient but it might be more worth it and you might save money by getting the tram to somewhere outside of the touristy part of Amsterdam and get the food fresh, not microwaved and at a better price.

A small fast food joint with incredibly tasty fish, wherever there are people. Herring like nowhere else. Very little marinated, light, almost like fish for sushi. Cod baked in batter is also good.

We had the herring sandwich and kibbeling (deep fried cod nuggets). Sandwich was great, but kibbeling was actually very disappointing (extremely salty and not crispy at all after reheating in air fryer in front of us).

Very tasty herring with cucumbers

I ordered a raw herring, 3.5€ It doesn’t taste fishy. If you like eating raw fish, you must try it. It tastes great with pickles and onions. There are only about 3 tables where you can stand and eat, but this does not affect the deliciousness of the food!

We learned that currently most of herring in Holland is actually imported and the dish itself is rapidly losing its popularity. Yet, it's one of the touristic attractions in Amsterdam. The herring tasted really good, salted just right, fresh, and tender. I wish the portion were bigger :) We also got fried cod pieces which were also fresh and kids loved them. The herring is certainly worth trying and waiting in the line!

Trovato per caso abbiamo potuto gustare un ottimo panino all'aringa (il migliore del nostro viaggio ad Amsterdam). Anche il panino con i gamberetti e il salmone erano ottimi. Non ho provato il pesce fritto, ma aveva un bellissimo aspetto. Giudizio eccellente (come streat food)

Food has excellent quality, super fresh and tasty. Gentleman who was taking and preparing orders didn’t smile at all, but i suppose it is because of the amount of people they are taking everyday. But still a must try for everyone!

Very nice people, but I asked if the kibbeling was fresh, but it was a couple hours old, reheated in an airfryer. Not the worst Kibbeling, but if It is your first time getting kibbeling I would advise looking for a place that fries it when you order it.

A bit exaggerated so you have to queue for 20 minutes for a tender sandwich with some fish in between. Had to ask twice to put onion on it. Friendly man.

I must say that although it is a small food stall on the street, what they prepare is quite good, quite interesting, it is like a hot dog but with a sardine or a herring, the truth is I'm not sure what it has inside but it is quite fresh and the The service is quite good, the truth is that it is a typical Dutch food that should be tried by everyone.

We ordered a famous „Broodje haring“, that consists of a herring filet on a bun with pickles and some flavoured onions. The bread is the one you can find in supermarkets, I was expecting something more given the Netherlands are worldwide famous for delicious types of bread. The fish was ok, it was kind of tasty, not so easy to make it out given the pickles basically covered everything else. All this given, I must say I appreciated the simplicity of the dish. The price is €4,20, it’s high for what you’re eating, but it’s acceptable overall.

Típico holandés: arenque ahumado con pepinillo y cebolla servido en un panecillo, que a primera vista puede resultar "raro" pero que no deja de ser un bocado muy saludable e increíblemente sabroso. Este puesto sin duda el mejor calidad precio de la ciudad, fui casi todos los días a por este snack.

It's a stall around the downtown area that we searched because of its Google reviews. It's also our first time trying the haring sandwich and this didn't disappoint. The onions & pickles truly made the difference. I was surprised of how good it was since the look of the fish is kind of intimidating for first timers like us. We recommend this spot.
