I've honestly never seen cold kibbeling (fried fish) at a fishmonger's counter, only to have it air-fry when you place an order. And then you have to wait five minutes for your fresh fish to come out of the air fryer 🧐. I tried it and returned it to the Volendam fresh fishmonger. It was nice that I got my money back immediately. It's a shame, I was really craving fish...

Very tasty cod bites with tartar sauce, the cod was tender and fell apart. Batter is nicely seasoned.

We stumbled upon this place while exploring Amsterdam and wanted to try some classic Dutch food. The herring and other fish dishes were fresh and truly delicious. The herring sandwich was especially nice. Because it's in a central location, in a busy tourist area, there can sometimes be queues, but they move quickly. Generally, you order takeout and eat it while walking nearby. The seating area isn't very large, but it's quite suitable for this type of street food.

I learned it’s family owned and run. The parents opened the business decades ago and the son took over the business, but on the day I went the son “hired” the parents back lol. Herring - not a huge fan. It’s served cold with pickles and raw onions. but cool to try something authentic Kibbeling (fried cod) - really good. not as greasy as English fish and chips since it uses a light batter. can really taste the fish. at least 4.5/5

It's successful. For those traveling with children or those who can't eat it raw, there's also a fried option.

I had the kibbeling. The fish was tender on the inside and crispy on the outside; it was truly delicious. The accompanying sauce complemented it beautifully. I recommend it.

The herring I had that day was not as good as some of the other places I've had on my recent trip, however still a yummy meal (the pickles were ok). The Kibbeling (fried cod) was yummy! They use an airfryer to heat it up so its not extremely heavy. Friendly staff! There's a lot of choices here for seafood, I wanted to try everything lol 😭

It's cheap, delicious, and highly recommended. The herring has no fishy smell, and the pickles and onions add a nice accent, making for a well-balanced sandwich.

I visit this herring stall every time I'm in Amsterdam and I have tried different fish with them. Everything was good and the seller takes the time to explain what he has👌🏼 They have also bar tables to eat at so you don't need to search for a bench in the street!

Wonderfully prepared herring sandwich, which is traditional delicacy local to Amsterdam. We were recommended to try on the walking tour and crossed it off our list of things to do only on our last day! Needless to say tastes are subjective, but we really liked it, there is a need for it to be in the bread roll though, since you may not be used to the texture. No need for any condiments since it is prepared so well (salted, iced) and definitely a must do on your visit!

It's delicious, I love it. It's much less salty than the raw pickled fish you usually find at supermarkets. It has a nice texture and lots of fat! I think I could have eaten two in one sitting! The onions and pickled cucumbers are a great way to cut through the greasiness (but not too much). A must-try!

Good quality herring spot in the city center of Amsterdam. Prices are a bit higher than usual but still fair. Nothing to complain, just nice fish!

I really don't know how the 5-star rating came about. First, it wasn't fried fresh; it was left cold and then reheated in the air fryer. The taste was horrible. Second, there was a strong fishy smell. I wonder if it was re-fried. It was completely inedible. It was incredibly salty. Why was it so salty? Are those who gave it 5 stars lying?

During our trip to Amsterdam, we happened upon a small fishmonger's stall. The saleswoman was super nice and prepared two delicious "Haring Brodje" for us. We'll be back next time we're in Amsterdam 👍

I tried the fried codfish, and it was one of the best I've had in Europe. If you're looking for a quick meal, don't leave without trying it :)

It is located in a fairly busy place, and therefore is extremely popular among locals and tourists.. We also decided to keep up and took a little bit of everything.... Everything was very tasty, but the local Herring is a total blast....😜 If you are nearby and you love everything fishy, add this place to your list - you won't regret it.

Waiting time 15 minutes...While there was a queue of people waiting one of the staff (owner) was slowly and peacefully polishing their equipment like if that was the best time for doing it... Others were laughing and commenting the same as well some other left... Why don't they sell the business to someone else if they are bored?

Herring Jonk stall servers lovely Brodge Herring and with onions & pickles. Shop is a bit difficult to locate ( its hidden behind a florist shop) but google maps did a.good job. its a takeway place so u need to pack and find a place to eat. Highly recommend it any herring/ seafood lover.

I never would have imagined I'd enjoy a raw herring, onion, and pickle sandwich so much. It's spectacular, I ate two. There are some high tables next to the stand, but further along, near the canal, there's a large area where you can sit and eat comfortably, about 30 meters away.

We dropped by this street food vendor on a recommendation to try out the pickled herring and kibbeling. It was superb, you must try it. Don’t be afraid that the herring will be fishy, it isn’t, it melts in your mouth and has a slightly sweet aftertaste. I could’ve eaten a whole plate of this stuff, the combination with the pickled cucumber is fabulous. The kibbelings were also great. Hot, fresh and the batter nicely seasoned. The accompanying sauce was tangy with a hint of mustard - awesome. Put this place on your itinerary.

It's definitely THE spot to go for a traditional smoked eel, herring, and some other fish, served in a simple bun or just on a paper tray It's definitely the street food, but truly worth of tasting. You may not find that high quality simple (if one may call a smoked eel to be simple) food in the more premium locations. The place also have a very positive vibe .
