This is just incredibly delicious, I regret that I came only on the last day of my stay in the city.

The Soused herring was not for us but we tried it! The Fried Cod (Kibbeling) however, was amazing!

Fresh herring and friendly service. I understand it's Amsterdam, so higher prices are expected. (Normal price between 3.25 to 3.75 per stuk) However, the herring it had been premade rather than freshly prepared.

Both the herring sandwich and the fried cod were to my taste, so I praise them.

The raw herring was amazing, so much better than what you get at the supermarket! A serving without bread was 4 euros. It wasn't too salty, very fatty, and had no bones. The accompanying raw onions and cucumbers were just right to cut through the richness. This place is fantastic; I highly recommend trying it if you're ever in the area!

The pickled herring, called hering, is delicious. Even my wife, who doesn't like sushi, enjoyed it. It's served with or without bread. It comes with pickles and finely chopped raw onions. Kibbeling is the fried version, and it's fantastic too. It's a great place for a quick snack.

Very nice place with super tasty traditional fish street food. I highly recommend to visit this place and get to know new tastes. The only thing that disappoint me was that serving stuff forgot to change gloves after taking money, small mistake but very important. Best wishes for this place and for sure in future I will visit it again.

This is NOT good! Not how you should experience dutch cuisine! They reheat the fish in an airfryer and are not kind!

Can't say much on atmosphere, as it is just a take away stand, but this was our first stop in Amsterdam. The bun was super soft, and the sandwich had just the right amount of onions and pickles. I make it a point to try a very local dish everywhere we travel, and this was one of the more adventurous choices. I thought it was really good. My husband, not so much. It isn't as fishy as I expected. I'd have it again.

I had the classic herring sandwich. It tasted very good. The fish was super fresh, fatty and slightly salted. Very simple sandwich yet delicious. Every ingredient matches well Highly recommend, it costs 6.8 euro

We came across Haringhandel Jonk by chance while walking by and noticed there was a line, so we decided to stop and try it. It turned out to be really good. The herring was not nearly as smelly as people say, and the grey shrimp sandwich was also very nice. Overall, highly recommended.

Very disappointing experience. The food itself was decent, but the service was extremely rude. The old man was throwing the food together with no care and had a very unfriendly attitude throughout the entire interaction. What made it worse was that after serving us, they closed and immediately asked us to leave the table, leaving us standing outside with our food. We understand businesses have closing hours, but there is no reason to treat customers this way.

It's hard to describe the atmosphere; it's just a food stand, but the service is very efficient and polite. Fresh herring and bread, delicious pickles.

May 26, 2018 - My last day in Amsterdam. I found a street food stall with pretty good reviews. The herring sandwich was quite unique; it didn't have a nasty fishy smell, but it did have some very soft, small fish bones. It didn't affect the eating experience, but it did affect the texture. The fried cod chunks weren't a large portion, suitable for one person. After ordering, they'd be reheated in an air fryer, so you had to wait a bit.

Amazing seafood stall. The stuffed breads are highly recommended.

By far the worst fish stall in Amsterdam! Shameful what they serve there and they still dare to charge money for it. Been there twice to give them a second chance. The first time I had an eel sandwich and it was a very small piece of eel of about 15 by 2 cm where the taste of bread stood out way too much and you could barely taste any bread for 7 euros. The day before yesterday I had something else hoping that it would be better, which I thought was impossible. Had a portion of kibbeling and that made me even more flabbergasted. It looked delicious in the window but in practice it was prepared in an air fryer. In the entire portion I saw 2 pieces of fish measuring 2 by 2 cm and the rest was just fried dough that was also full of fat, and that for 6.50. Scandalous that they dare to sell that and that you get served so hypocritically!!!

Don't go when it's about to close, or you risk being shut out without being served. The food, however, is truly delicious and worth a try! The herring and fried cod are recommended!

It tasted good, the price of 5 euros was worth it to try it. The combination of pickles, onions, fish, and bread was very nice.

It's so deliciously pickled! The flavor is amazing! 😍 It has a rich, thick texture. The texture is great! It goes well with raw onions and cucumbers. The cucumbers are very fresh, sweet and crunchy, and they don't overpower the herring flavor at all.

A lovely place where you can grab a quick seafood sandwich.

The herring and the snert (split pea w ham soup) were delicious. I had the herring Amsterdam-style so cut, with onions and tasty mildly sweet pickles on the side and eaten with a toothpick. Darn tasty and the snert was terrific! They only get 4 starts for service because while the line moved quickly, the guy who waited on me was grumpy. The nice lady waiting on others was super nice, but I got grumpy guy. Still, not to be missed, herring was spot on!!

Had an unforgettable stop at Herring Stall Jonk in Amsterdam, wow. The sardines and salmon were hands down some of the best I’ve ever had. Incredibly fresh, clean flavors, and prepared so simply that you really taste the quality of the fish. What made it even better was the service, the staff were warm, kind, and genuinely welcoming to tourists, which made the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable. If you’re in Amsterdam and want something authentic, fresh, and absolutely delicious, this place is a must.

It's a matter of personal taste, but I wouldn't recommend the herring sandwich or anything else. They top it with a huge amount of onion and you can't taste any other flavor.

I've honestly never seen cold kibbeling (fried fish) at a fishmonger's counter, only to have it air-fry when you place an order. And then you have to wait five minutes for your fresh fish to come out of the air fryer 🧐. I tried it and returned it to the Volendam fresh fishmonger. It was nice that I got my money back immediately. It's a shame, I was really craving fish...

Very tasty cod bites with tartar sauce, the cod was tender and fell apart. Batter is nicely seasoned.

We stumbled upon this place while exploring Amsterdam and wanted to try some classic Dutch food. The herring and other fish dishes were fresh and truly delicious. The herring sandwich was especially nice. Because it's in a central location, in a busy tourist area, there can sometimes be queues, but they move quickly. Generally, you order takeout and eat it while walking nearby. The seating area isn't very large, but it's quite suitable for this type of street food.

I learned it’s family owned and run. The parents opened the business decades ago and the son took over the business, but on the day I went the son “hired” the parents back lol. Herring - not a huge fan. It’s served cold with pickles and raw onions. but cool to try something authentic Kibbeling (fried cod) - really good. not as greasy as English fish and chips since it uses a light batter. can really taste the fish. at least 4.5/5

The herring I had that day was not as good as some of the other places I've had on my recent trip, however still a yummy meal (the pickles were ok). The Kibbeling (fried cod) was yummy! They use an airfryer to heat it up so its not extremely heavy. Friendly staff! There's a lot of choices here for seafood, I wanted to try everything lol 😭

Wonderfully prepared herring sandwich, which is traditional delicacy local to Amsterdam. We were recommended to try on the walking tour and crossed it off our list of things to do only on our last day! Needless to say tastes are subjective, but we really liked it, there is a need for it to be in the bread roll though, since you may not be used to the texture. No need for any condiments since it is prepared so well (salted, iced) and definitely a must do on your visit!

It's delicious, I love it. It's much less salty than the raw pickled fish you usually find at supermarkets. It has a nice texture and lots of fat! I think I could have eaten two in one sitting! The onions and pickled cucumbers are a great way to cut through the greasiness (but not too much). A must-try!
