Dinner for 5 on a Wednesday evening. We elected the 4 course dego and thoroughly enjoyed the food. We took the paired wine option also which was mostly well selected but for one misfire. The staff were terrific, polite and explained the dishes well. There were a couple of times where the wait person got a bit lost when explaining the wine at hand (confused, mistaking region for varietal, for example) but that is being hyper critical and this did not detract from our overall experience. A really terrific meal.

We participated in Le Mosselwalk on September 5, 2026. It is a fun initiative where you visit 5 restaurants and receive a mussel dish at each one. The dishes are already paid for, so you only pay for the drinks. Visaandeschelde was the fifth stop. The mussel dish was the best-presented dish of the route. Unfortunately, the bread roll arrived after the meal, but it was busy and they wanted to finish everyone before five o'clock; I can understand that to some extent, although it doesn't belong in this price segment. The disappointment lay in the bill for the drinks. 2 beers, two white wines, and a glass of (tap) water for €53, while everywhere else we stayed well under €30. This was because, instead of a glass/small bottle of water, they placed two one-liter bottles on the table for us. After using one bottle for one glass, they charged us €5 for both bottles. I won't complain about a beer or a glass of white wine for ten euros, but I find a glass of water for ten euros, even after all that drought of the past few months, to be really excessive. Especially when you haven't even touched the second bottle. A shame. Otherwise a nice place and good quality mussels, but it doesn't invite me back.

What a wonderful afternoon we had here. Everything was perfect down to the last detail. The quality of the fresh oysters on ice was truly excellent, and the fish dish with the refined sauce was also highly recommended. We enjoyed every detail, such as the funny fishing rods on the starter plate. It was a fantastic experience in a beautiful place. We will certainly be back here soon.

Sunday bouillabaisse lunch is a must do, very good fish soup.

Absolutely loved the food at Visaandeschelde. The layers of flavours and textures harmonised well together, bringing out the freshness of the seafood. Every dish was thoughtful and had depth of flavours. Loved the seafood bouillabaisse, the oysters. The service was exceptional too. The waiters and chef learnt that we are sharing our meal and thoughtfully prepared the soup so that we can portion out easily!

What a disappointment. We had ordered a bouillabaisse and half a lobster. The half lobster was the size of an XL prawn and had no leg with a claw; upon inquiry, it had been used as stuffing for the head. We didn't taste or see it, and if we had, the contents and texture of the stuffing would have been different. The bouillabaisse was more like a tomato soup with a fishy taste, supplemented with some prawns including the intestinal tract. A sourdough roll for €7.50, a bag of fries for €6.00, and a glass of wine for €10.00. Anyway, with 6 oysters and some water, €177.00!!!! What a waste of money, and we won't be back.

I can't describe in words how good the Chefs tasting menu was with the wine paring as well as how perfect it was planned. It was like a piece of art experience.

We actually visited in December 25, we have been meaning to leave a review but time got away from us. We dined as two adults and two toddlers, the owners and hosts were amazing, they managed to find us a table at short notice. The owner interacted with our toddlers which was a warming touch. They were so friendly, welcoming and it felt like they couldn’t do enough for us. Hands down the one of the best services we have experienced. The food was fresh and delicious, they took the time to explain each dish even to our toddlers. The decor of the restaurant is modern but warm at the same time. The vibe is relaxed fine dining. Would definitely recommend to everyone and go back without hesitation.

Atmosphere food and service made for a lovely evening.

The amuse-bouches were particularly tasty and surprising. The starter and main course were also very good. The desserts, especially the rhubarb tart, were very special.

We visited Visaandeschelde through the American Express Dining for 2 experience. The restaurant has a refined atmosphere and the service was attentive and professional throughout the evening. The dishes themselves were well-executed—the salmon rillette starter and snapper main were both flavorful and nicely presented. However, the overall experience left us with mixed feelings. While the food quality was good, the portion size of the main course did not feel aligned with the €39 price point, which affected the perceived value. More importantly, several additional charges were not clearly communicated. Bread was offered without mentioning it comes at an extra cost (€7.50), and a €0.25 per person charity contribution was added to the bill without prior notice. We were also informed that tap water is not available, with only bottled water (€5) offered. Having dined at several comparable restaurants in Amsterdam (such as Wils and Rijks), as well as in other countries, this experience stood out for the lack of transparency rather than the pricing itself. In fine dining, clarity and a sense of hospitality are just as important as food quality. Here, the combination of smaller portions and unclear add-ons made the experience feel more transactional than expected.

Fish on the Scheldt? No. The Scheldt Fish. That describes it better. Young blonde ladies with blue eyes and fishhooks; a combination that apparently does not come without complications. The highlight of the evening was not the fish, but a napkin. Or rather: the way it was delivered. Where most waitresses place a napkin, this young lady opted for the frisbee technique. The cloth came flying my way with such conviction that she herself froze in shock, hand over mouth, as if she only realized at that moment that she had not been entered in the World Discus Throwing Championship. Her explanation only made the story better. Her armpits were apparently so soaked with sweat that she preferred to launch a napkin rather than walk two steps out of her way to place it properly. A poor logistical decision. Then came the fries. In a bag. For seven euros. That can hardly go wrong, you would think. Yet, here too, the feeling arose that the contents were more likely to be poured over the customer than neatly placed in front of him. Come on, little fish shop on Scheldestraat. There are people sitting at the table here who know what service is. If you charge six euros for a beer that contains more protein than character, you should at least employ staff who understand that a guest is not a moving target. The problem isn't even those young employees. They aren't trying their best. The problem is that someone decided to let inexperienced people loose on a business that charges prices as if the staff had been flown in straight from a five-star hotel. The fish wasn't the only thing struggling that evening. The wait staff, too, seemed desperately searching for oxygen.

A local taxi driver recommended this restaurant to me and i fall in love with this restaurants, and I must say it is one of the best restaurants I have visited. The standards and quality are maintained 100%. It is a very clean, safe, and elegant place. The staff takes great care of every customer. Even though the restaurant is very busy, they manage everything in a very soft, polite, and professional way. Special thanks to the person who served us, I would especially like to mention DJ, who served us with great care and professionalism the entire team, the lovely ladies in the service team, and the talented chef in the kitchen for making our experience so special. Pleasant atmosphere, with a decent crowd and a comfortable noise level. The food quality, hospitality, and attention to detail are excellent. A truly beautiful restaurant with amazing service. Once a year, we catch up with friends about how it was and what the future holds. We do this at Vis aan de Schelde. It was another fantastic evening: fantastic atmosphere, fantastic food, fantastic wine, fantastic service, and beautiful wine coolers designed by Max. As far as I'm concerned, it's the tastiest and most fun restaurant in all of Amsterdam!!

The starters and main courses were full of flavor. Each dish was satisfying and made us excited to try the next one. The French oysters were fresh and tasty as well. Overall, a great dining experience, and I’d definitely recommend a visit.

Food was good as you would expect from any fancy restaurant so no specific comment on that. I do want to specifically give a feedback on the amazing service we received throughout the evening. It truly made the difference.

We came to dine at this restaurant today with very high expectations, but unfortunately the level of service on the floor completely ruined the experience. Apart from one shorter waiter who started his shift slight later in the evening and seemed genuinely professional, every other staff member appeared extremely inexperienced. No one seemed to know the menu, the dishes, or even the basics about the wines. Every question we asked was met with “I don’t know, I’ll go ask,” but nobody ever came back with an answer. We asked what was included in the “Selection of Seasonal Shellfish” and the response was simply, “I would ask.”Nobody come back , Another waitress told us she would ask a colleague, then disappeared as well. It genuinely felt like everyone was constantly passing responsibility to someone else instead of actually helping the guests. We eventually ordered 9 oysters and two glasses of rosé Champagne, which took around 30 minutes to arrive, together with the croquettes and a couple of starters. In total, we waited more than an hour for very simple dishes. Later, we ordered a €90 bottle of Chablis, which unfortunately was served too warm. I politely asked if it could be chilled with ice. The waitress took the bottle away, and after some time we asked if she could simply bring it back and leave it next to us in the cooler. The tall blonde waitress with blue eyes responded in a very annoyed manner saying “touch it, touch it,” implying that the cooler was already cold and clearly not wanting to help further. We explained that a wine cooler maintains temperature, but if the wine is already warm, it obviously needs proper chilling first. After all the delays, we ordered two market fresh fish dishes and than left. We sat down at 17:30 and left at 21:50 after only having oysters, sashimi, croquettes, eel and 2 main course . The food itself was genuinely very good. Compliments to the kitchen everything we ate was flavorful and well executed. We both work in hospitality and have done so for many years, so we fully understand how difficult this industry can be nowadays, especially when it comes to staffing. We are not the kind of people who complain easily. However, for a restaurant at this price level, the service standards were honestly far below expectations. This review is meant as constructive criticism, and I truly hope it helps, because the restaurant is nice . We sincerely hope that next time the experience will be much better.

We came to this place to celebrate a small private important thing in our lives, and the team was incredibly accomodating, on top of that, the food (especially the chefs menu) was delicious and prepared with care. Thank you again to the team that made our small celebration possible!

We are used to come very regularly to this restaurant.the kitchen is always perfect and very creative. However for the first time in 15 years this time, the young lady who served us was okay but the point that was not okay is that she involves herself in the conversation of the guests without having been asked to.she tended also to have an answer opinion on everything. we were used that’s the service was Always perfect with those youngs in the service, but this time the one we had was not very okay. for the first time, also they didn’t accompany us to the way out and to help us to dress

The food was delicious, just a shame that the seafood was sold out.....that's what we came especially for 😖. The Irish coffee we had for dessert was very mediocre, too little coffee, far too creamy and basically tasteless. Not what you would expect in such a restaurant.

Dining here with colleagues - chef's table - 15 people. Every dish was a surprise, amazing, and presented with great care. Combined with delicious wines, it made for a complete evening. It was quite a surprise to find this seafood restaurant so far out of the way but when we walked in the atmosphere was Superior to anything else in Amsterdam the clientele was very well dressed and the staff were super polite and provided excellent service

This was a very disappointing experience. The lobster was undercooked. I had told them beforehand that I was pregnant and asked them to cook it thoroughly, but undercooked lobster is unacceptable. I will never go there again. It was a meal with someone important to me, and I feel like it was ruined.

This is a real delight. The chef is very creative and the food is well balanced and not too filling. It is a gourmet experience unlike anything you will find many places.

Last Sunday, March 29, we enjoyed a very tasty lunch. The theme was Champagne and Caviar, which formed a perfect combination with the delicious dishes in each course. The menu and dishes were creations by Max Deenik and his team, clearly demonstrating that the love for flavorful food and daring combinations has been passed down through the family. On the first sunny day of spring, we enjoyed a delicious lunch on the terrace. Delicious appetizers, a superb starter and main course! And the service was exemplary: efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly!

We had a wonderful meal for two. This seafood restaurant had been on our list of places to visit for a while, especially since we live only 1 km away and drive past it often. The service was generally excellent, and the advice on which wine and oysters to choose was also helpful. The only point of concern, in my opinion, is that the staff offers a bottle of table water (not free, of course). And when it's empty, they replace it without asking, open it, and pour it. This is excellent service in itself, except that you then pay €5 per bottle of water. Even if you didn't order it, it's opened and charged without our consent. The price isn't the issue here, but it would be polite to ask first. We thought this was a shame, because we barely drank anything from the second bottle. Since we had finished eating, the bottle of wine was empty, and we had to leave around 7:30 pm.

We were given a table for two next to each other upon request, which was incredibly kind. What a lovely restaurant! They've thought of everything; there are even cushions under the table to keep you from bumping your knees. The food was delicious and melted in my mouth. I'll definitely be back, as this was my first time here, and I'll definitely be back.

A wonderful restaurant to dine for lunch or dinner. Whether your in the mood for a light or full course meal this is definitely the place to be. I strongly suggest making reservations, so you don’t miss out on the experience. I would definitely visit them again in the future, so I can explore more of their menu. I have been coming back to this restaurant every year for maybe ten years now, and if anything it is aways better. Ok, prices have gone up quite a bit, but that's life I suppose. So I can only confirm my old review below from 2018. lOne of my best friends is Dutch, and he used to say that among the many good things he could say about his country, cuisine was not one that would come to his mind. Well, he should visit this restaurant, then reconsider! One thing I learnt is that top restaurants do things that may look quite complicated, but in the end manage to create the experience of simple, pure and unique flavors. Very much the case of this restaurant: eclectic cuisine, mainly French but with influences from all over the world, and combining classic and innovative preparations. Excellent wines by the glass. Prices commensurate to quality, but with excellent price to quality ratio.

Fantastic place where quality remains at a high level after all these years. With its fish dishes, this restaurant really should be in the top 3 in Amsterdam. Worthy of a Michelin star.

I've eaten at Vis since it opened and witnessed all its developments firsthand. From the very beginning, Vis was a success and built its culinary reputation. Because of my family connection to Vis, I'm obviously not the best person to write a review, but I'll give my honest assessment of my recent experience there.

We have such good memories of this place and had many delicious lunches here. The staff is always so lovely and bend over backwards to make you feel comfortable and seen. The food is prepared with fresh ingredients and the flavour combinations exciting and always different. The courses are a bit small for what you pay, but they are clearly well thought out and prepared with love. The restaurant has also a great wine selection and the staff are usually very clued up on which wines pair well with the food and the customer's budget. I highly recommend!

It was a wonderful experience to enjoy and marvel at the delicious food together with my stepdaughter and her father. My stepdaughter, 12 years old and without any experience with fine dining, said, "You don't think I'm here for a children's menu, do you?" Now that her father has passed away, the experience has become even more special.

Visaandeschelde is one of the few places in Amsterdam where you can still order a classic French "Fruits de Mer" platter. Generously filled, beautifully presented. Beautifully fresh ingredients. The lobster was super fresh, as were the North Sea crab, cockles, periwinkles, and Dutch shrimp. And the oysters have been our favorite here for a long time. The shellfish tasted slightly of water, not the wine-and-cocktail broth we're used to. When we inquired in the kitchen, it turned out that the cockles, periwinkles, and mussels had been cooked in a "fast vegetable broth" (according to the chef). This was clearly noticeable. Personally, I prefer a slightly deeper broth flavor, which gives a more pleasant mouthfeel, especially with delicate shellfish. The reservation went smoothly, and our request for a table in the back was honored. The service was very attentive, fast, and pleasant. The wine list is extensive, and the prices are reasonable, especially compared to the exorbitantly high "tourist prices" at other, comparable restaurants. Visaandeschelde remains an Amsterdam classic for fish lovers. It's been a regular spot for us for years, and will be again in 2026!

Every year we eat during the wine show. I have never written a review before : here goes. Oysters are French ? No they are gorgeous Dutch full flavours sea salt with an idoine roundness and a milky protein finish … it did not stop there - the fish of the day - just a specialty… if you do not eat here then you have missed a moment. Discreet because when you are that good you can be. Bravo.

When you say "Fish," you know you have to visit Scheldeplein! Fish lovers know where to go. Always surprising, delicious combinations, and friendly, cozy, relaxed service. I don't get to go there enough now that I live in Maastricht.

Our favorite restaurant for over 25 years, whenever we have something to celebrate, we're here. The atmosphere, the food, everything is fantastic and feels like home.

A casual restaurant where you can bring everyone. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is pleasantly informal, as is the service. Pleasantly noisy.

I think it's been our favorite spot in Amsterdam for 20 years straight. In all those years, we've never even looked at the menu. We and our dining group of three true foodies love being surprised by Michiel time and time again, and he succeeds every time! A hospitable and dedicated owner, and a role model for many!
