November 2025 I had herring, a Dutch specialty. The shop was run by an elderly man who seemed very kind and welcoming. I went around lunchtime, but it was empty. I ordered the herring, which came with bread! I think they only accept cash. Before eating, I was a little worried about whether it would taste good, but I loved it! There was no fishy smell at all, and the bread was fluffy and delicious! I'm glad I tried it! I was happy that the elderly owner said goodbye to me after I finished eating.

I live in the Netherlands for 5 years and this was the worst kibbeling ever I have seen. The fish were kept cold in the fridge, which is normal, but then the owner heated them up in the microwave. Yes, microwave! Then they broke into tens of pieces while eating. Although it seems one of the top fish shops in Amsterdam, I don’t recommend here for kibbeling. I cannot comment on the quality of the other food there.

Small shop in the alley. Can seat about 7-10 people. Perfect for breakfast. Uncle who owns the shop is very very nice. He speaks great English and slowly explain each of his fish and how to eat them. His fish is great! We tried several kind, but we personally love his cod. We kept going back to his shop 2 times out of 3 days that we are in Amsterdam. Only 5 Euro per dish

This is one of the restaurants I'd love to visit again in Amsterdam. The Herring Broodje is delicious! 🐟 And best of all, the man working there is so charming and kind! ☺️ It's also easily accessible from Amsterdam Centraal Station, so I highly recommend checking it out! Please note that they don't accept cards, so please bring cash with you.

An old, dirty shack on the side of an alley. The fish was dirty, old, and microwaved. I have a feeling he buys a container of fish from the other side of Amsterdam, freezes it, and then sells it. I'll never go here again, and I can't warn people enough to stay away.

While preparing for my trip, I was nervous because I saw so many travel shows and YouTube videos portraying Haring as a daunting challenge. But let me be clear: if you dislike fish, don't even look at it. However, if you love fish, including gwamegi, you'll fall in love with it like I did. 😍 (hearts flying) I'm also wary of Haring, so I didn't eat it on its own, thinking it might taste better with bread. But it wasn't fishy at all, and the fact that it came with onions and pickles made it even more refreshing. It had a similar charm to Korean gwamegi. And the kibbeling I ordered alongside it is Dutch-style fried codfish, crispy and tender. It was incredibly delicious. P.S. After my first taste of Haring here, I've been eating Haring at least once a day at fish restaurants in the Netherlands. 💭Places that come to mind (Korea) - BIVO Fish & Chips near Hongdae, Seoul - Mexicali Fish Tacos near Achasan Station, Seoul

I thought I'd get a nice cup of fresh kibbeling with garlic. It's being heated up by Chef Mike (microwave). Paying by card isn't possible. I left the guy with the kibbeling still in the microwave. Expected freshly made, not reheated junk.

There are a few things to note: they only accept cash payment; the full dish also included pickled cucumber slices, the dish is good (if not better) without this addition; it's a small place, we might have been lucky to have found available seats! Overall impression was good, a good place for a quick traditional seafood-based meal!

A tourist trap and disappointment - after having had delicious freshly fried kibbelings in other parts of the Netherlands, I was very let down by this experience. The fish was already fried and just reheated in a microwave, while the choices of sauce were your standard supermarket-bought garlic sauce rather than the tasty ravigote or remoulade I was offered in previous places. The fish tasted a bit stale even if the spice mix in the batter was alright. I would not recommend, unfortunately.

My wife and I were in this place, we came after reading a lot of reviews, the atmosphere was pleasant, we took herring in a bun (haring), the fish was tasty and everything seemed to be fine, but after a little while, the evening was ruined by severe poisoning, I never write bad reviews, but this time I will make an exception, this is not allowed, the fish was clearly spoiled, you need to pay closer attention to the quality of the products, I understand the place is a tourist, the flow of people, but I did not eat anywhere else that day and God forbid anyone such an experience, be careful, and the owner, I hope, will be more attentive to his products in the future

I've been coming to this really small shop for many years to eat one or two herring rolls. These are of perfect quality. Eel and fried herring also very good. There are definitely other places to eat Kibbeling. When I read the reviews here that are all more than top when it comes to matjes, why is Kibbeling definitely here? Enjoy the matjes on offer, they are really worth it.
