Small "fish shop" in a corner in an alley. Fish was not fresh and cold. Sir let chef microwave cook the fish. Avoid this!

Typical place for a quick sandwich. The place is run by two nice gentlemen who seem to make everything in an artisanal way, including the pickles. The typical dish is the herring sandwich, a very tasty dish. you can also order other local fish specialties. The place is small and the staff is very friendly. Highly recommended for those who want to taste the real Holland.

Honestly the most tender and tastiest fish I have tasted was there! A small old-fashioned store whose owner is very welcoming and friendly! I go back there every time I'm in Amsterdam!

Small and sincere place where you eat fish with various solutions. From the famous herring in the sandwich to the fried foods. Tiny interior with 5 chairs and a few tables where you can eat in close contact. Perhaps a little overrated in the guides but excellent value for money.

I was super excited about having a kibbeling with my friends and went to this shop. The person we were talking to (probably the shop owner) was talking about unintelligibly and we couldn’t understand him, so we went on and asked him “sorry what was that?” several times. The shop owner asked us where we were from and when we told that we were from Türkiye, he immediately answered “OH THAT’S WHY”. Owner went from zero to racist pretty fast 💀 When we said that we don’t want to buy anything after his rude behavior and start leaving the place he continued to laugh at us. So much for their hospitality :)

The owner is super kind and makes you feel at home. Also, the fish is fresh and tasty. You have to get some kibbeling, it's amazing!

Update 2024. We came back to Amsterdam and ate here again. Twice during the same day! Everything was delicious and fresh. We tried 5 different things. Smoked salmon was amazing, tender. Fried cod was delicious too. We will come back next trip as well. It’s our tradition now. Please support this small business ☺️ 2023. Delicious and fresh. We tied herring sandwich, smoked eel, crab salad, fried cod, everything was super tasty! Totally will eat here again next time I’m in Amsterdam! Some people complain that cod fish is microwaved, but it is freshly cooked the same day (big amount), it’s very tender. The owner is friendly and kind. There are only 2 tables inside , but people come and go, there’s always a chance to sit and enjoy your snack ☺️

Stumbled upon this hidden gem by accident, and it was exactly what I needed after too much fried food. The two friendly guys running the place (maybe one is Rob Wigboldus?) served amazing seafood. The salt-brined herring was so good I returned for more—the mackerel was fresh and generous, the smoked salmon mildly smoky and sweet, and the smoked eel was incredibly meaty and satisfying. This spot truly makes me want to return and dive deeper into Dutch culture. €5 for the herring and €8 for a plate with 3. Very reasonable price in such a busy area. Highly recommend!

I ordered the salted herring. There was no smell at all, and it was so delicious that it melted in your mouth! Fresh fish and fluffy bread! Good cost performance! The taste that Japanese people like! The staff are very friendly and fun. I will go again!

We tried two types of fish. One was hering and the other we chose fried fish. They were both beautiful. Their bread is a soft bread that does not overpower the taste of the fish. Hering is served cold. It has a soft texture.

Great herring sandwiches if you like them. Small but nice shop with two tables. Warning: they do not take cards, it's "cash only".

Herang sandwich for €4.50. The pickles are sweet and sour, the harang melts in the mouth without being too salty, the bread is very soft, and the raw onions add something to the dish. (I don't recommend kissing anyone after eating this). This is a good place to eat the harang sandwich. There are seats, and it's in a small, untouristy street perpendicular to a big street, so it's quiet.

In Amsterdam, Netherlands, we attended Rob Wigboldus Fishmonger, to try their specialty, ‘Broodje Haring’. This Dutch-delicacy-sandwich includes a small herring, filleted and kept at a fresh sashimi grade. The herring is lightly salted and pickled, short-term, likely over night. There are subtle tastes of salt, vinegar and lemon juice that can be picked up, but the dominant flavour comes from the fresh herring, which has a hearty, sweet and oily flavour. In combination with the herring, they also use fresh white onion and Kesbeke branded pickles, a local Dutch brand which utilises a perfected recipe of sweet and sour cucumbers. The bread used is fresh, soft and white. The option for a fresh chilli paste is included at your own preference, having a medium spicy level of heat. We also tried their ‘kibelling’, a deep fried cod fish, which also comes in a sandwich with pickles and onion. It had a beautiful oily taste with a distinct and delicate-cod flavour.

The best herring sandwich in all of Holland, without a doubt. It's exquisite. We cannot give a 5 for the man who serves the food, since he should check his hygiene a little, and you also have to pay in cash. It really is cheap to be in Amsterdam.

Loved this little place with great service and great herring! Not much space to sit but most people were getting food for takeaway anyways :) I added a bit of the spicy sauce that was on the table but my friend had her herring with just the pickles and onion

We found this place by chance. It is located in an alley and was attracted by the sign. After tasting the matias, everyone decided to order a couple more servings. It was sooooo delicious!!! We definitely leave them in our favorite places!

Finally dutch food of very good quality especially the kibbling is much better than the majority of the viswinkel in The Netherland!

Pretty standard broodje haring, it was fresh with pickles and onions. Disappointed in the kibbeling because it was warmed in the microwave. The atmosphere felt dirty, coats and things hanging on the communal sink which was not clean and the cooks were not washing hands in between handling the food and dealing with the register.

I ordered cod frites and salted herring with bread. The owner, an uncle, welcomed us with a kind smile. It was also very cost-effective and delicious! This was my favorite local food of my trip to Amsterdam.

It tasted delicious, and I ordered the more distinctive haring and kibbeling. After identification by local friends, the raw herring is also very fresh and has no fishy smell. My favorite thing to eat is the pickled cucumber here, which is sour, sweet and crunchy. But remember to bring cash

We walked for two days looking for where to eat herring in Amsterdam. Finally found it and came straight here. A small establishment, absolutely inconspicuous. Two old sailors, one even speaking Russian. The only place in Amsterdam where we could not pay by card, only cash. Small queue. And then you put a sandwich in your mouth and forget everything. Awesome herring

In a very small alley, this lovingly run shop is a real attraction. The small shop with 5 seats and the fish counter have their own charm. The owner is very nice and tops the fish sandwiches very well. Whether plaice, salmon or fillet, all the rolls tasted excellent. Clear recommendation!

I came to the place from Chile because of a YouTube recommendation and I loved it. They were very friendly in every way, the herring on bread was very delicious. I had gone 2 months without a drop of alcohol and in that place I returned to the slopes with 2 beers. Highly recommended.
