The Good Companion in Jordaan

It was one of the best restaurant in my life. I am traveling around the globe, but I never suspect that I am gonna eat such a good food in hearth of Amsterdam. Bread with anchovies butter was one of the best in my life, vongole was simply amazing same with trout as a starter. After that I ate seabass in hot oil, I ate the whole fish and it was heaven for me. Great selection of wine by glass, and good beer. Atmosphere was simply amazing and cozy, our waitress, don't know her name (blonde hair) was professional and friendly. I would recommend that restaurant and come back in next visit. Thank you for amazing evening.

Amazing service and the food was incredible. Went there on a Thursday evening and despite that the atmosphere was so great. The Good Companion was definitely peak of our Amsterdam trip and could not recommend it more!

Pleasant atmosphere, but food was disappointing. Starter portions were terribly stingy, and far too much emphasis on butter in every dish that followed. Came away underwhelmed. Disconcertingly expensive, with a naïve kitchen.

If you like oysters, go visit their oyster 'hour'. Great quality oysters for an even better price. Great service, great food. The fried food is not gluten free, but the oysters and other seafood mostly are.

I hadn't been there in years and still assumed it was just fish and chips, but last night I was unexpectedly surprised to discover it's now a wonderful fish restaurant with fantastic wines and the friendliest sommelier in Amsterdam. I'll be back soon!

We had a wonderful meal at The Good Company! They used to serve delicious fish and chips, but I noticed they've taken the restaurant to a whole new level. We opted for the set menu and enjoyed all the chef's specialties. We were paired with some delicious wine. The service was excellent and knowledgeable. We sat in the cozy conservatory and had a lovely evening. We'll definitely be back!

The food was very average, even bland, and the service wasn't top-notch. The waitress was quite rude and didn't pay us any attention. Paying 28 euros for fish also meant paying 6 euros for fries and 5 euros for a salad. We ordered a salad, which was simply poor. All things considered, the room was very stuffy. Overall, we rate the entire experience as very poor.

Wonderful restaurant where the owner and chef personally walk around, deliver your food, pour the wine, and check in to say hello. Fresh local seafood with a variety of different flavors; great wine list; and cozy feeling. I highly recommend coming for a plate of oysters and staying for the starters and a main. We couldn't decide so ordered four starters and each one, I would have ordered again. Wonderful find. I will be back.

Amazing dinner and great staff. Owner was great and so was the rest of the staff. Food was delicious! Mussels were perfect. Will be our new regular spot. Cant wait for oyster happy hour today!

These guys are excellent. No complaints at all as a kiwi who grew up eating fish n chips every Friday. One wish is that these guys would reinstate take away as an option - to me fish n chips is at its heart a take away treat ❤️

We had a great experience here. The seafood was fresh and seasoned well. We talked about coming back for a second meal during our short stay but just ran out of time.

Wine selection was unimpressive. The oysters had shell shards in several oysters and quite disappointed with our mussels--portions were small and not enough broth and no bread to dip said broth in.

Sea bass with mayonnaise. Ordered anchovies, and they didn't come. Restaurant for tourists, but not for food.

A truly delicious meal, highly recommended for those who love pure fish. Very friendly staff and a pleasant chat with the chef complete the experience.

I’ve been a customer here for many years now, and so far my experience has been great! It’s my family’s go-to place if we want to have great seafood and it hasn’t let us down. The food is always great, especially their oysters and langoustines. The servers are all friendly and our orders are fulfilled quickly seeing as how packed the restaurant usually is. Definitely recommend!

We ended up here out if chance...it was raining at dinner time. The menu is thin; only four "large plate" items to choose from, and as explained to us, only two of the four were for a single person. No free bread up front; you must pay for their sourdough. I ordered the bream fillet, which was 1/8 inch at its thickest part...maybe 3 oz with a finger added on the scale. It was a sorry excuse for a meal at €25. My side salad dressing was simple oil and vinegar; no other choices. It was disappointing from every dimension. I would think twice on this place. If it's raining, just get wet.

Absolutely nice experience and fresh fish!

This was a best sea food meal I have for a while, we ordered sea bream, it was cooked in a divine sauce, and tarbit fish which fist time I try, it was very nice and melt in mouth, scollop was prepared in nice fresh sauce, overall a great experience, highly recommended for seafood fans!

The fried potato cubes were flavorful, but a few were overcooked and too hard to enjoy. Unfortunately, several clams had noticeable sand, which affected the overall experience and didn’t quite meet my expectations.

Had a great meal here, they had a new menu. DELICIOUS! I will definitely come back here! They also had a Sommelier who had chosen the perfect wines for us with the dishes. Definitely worth a visit.

Delicious tasty fish dishes prepared in an excellent way. And now even better than the old concept (we don't really miss the fish & chips and mussel pan 😉). Luckily we live around the corner, so we can come back soon.

The food was excellent. Had some sourdough bread as a starter with anchovies butter, which I can recommend anyone- it’s class! The seacuterie board was a bit overpriced for what we received. However, the mains, see images, were both out of this world delicious and fairly priced. Can high recommend the sea bass and sea bream!

Fresh fish and oysters. High quality and amazing tasting fish dishes. Price quality was good, portions were a bit small but they all tasted amazing and had an original twist to them.

This is a great seafood restaurant owned by local residents. We tried each one with trepidation at first, but the dishes became more and more delicious, and we kept adding more orders, which amused the waiter. All the seafood exceeded expectations until I saw three fish cookbooks on the cooking table.

The starter was nice, we ordered the seacuteries with some bread. But after that came a long wait for the main dishes. The sea bass was delicious but the mussels had a whole story coming along with it. The waitress on her way serving the dish, dropped a few mussels out of the dish, right in front of our eyes, but not saying sorry or have any reaction to it. The mussels themselves were not hot at all. We also ordered asparagus as a side dish, and what a ridiculous price, 8.5 euros for like, what, 6 pieces of asparagus??? So yeah, definitely will not come back and also not recommend!

Locale informale fuori dalle più battute strade di turisti; ha un piccolo dehor e una raccolta saletta interna con i tavoli abbastanza vicini gli uni agli altri. Personale gentilissimo. La cucina è a vista. Il menù non presenta tantissime scelte ma la materia prima è eccellente e locale. Servono del pesce freschissimo, mulluschi, ostriche buonissime a costi adeguati (comunque piuttosto contenuti rospetto a molti altri locali). Ci tornerei molto volentieri

We had been walking forever! We needed to sit and eat and drink! Nice big tables outside on a beautiful night! It’s a big place. People are super spread out. Once we got a chance to order, we found out they were no longer serving dinner. Oh well. Ok! Pivot! We got drinks and the cauliflower and the nachos! They were amazing! And so was the food 😉Honestly have a seat, a drink, a snack!

All in all, a very lovely neighborhood spot with great fresh seafood and excellent service.

Me and my friend were craving seafood and the Good Companion did more than satisfy that craving. The service was lovely, one of our waiter’s Joey was very helpful. Providing excellent recommendations and tips. The other waitress was super friendly and attentive to us. We ordered a variety of dishes all of them delicious and kept us ordering more food. The dessert card could be better but the rest of the menu was fulfilling Our heart broke a bit when we found out the fish and chips have been removed from the menu. But we will keep an eye out for the Monday specials in hopes to see it again.

This is a gem place ! Definitely recommend this place for the best quality seafood with delicious flavors! The chef here pour in lot of love while making and cooking these dishes so the taste of the dishes are next level ! I was in food coma after having just one bite 😍🥹

What a surprise! I ended up at TGC's 8th anniversary by chance and was completely blown away. The renewed concept promises a lot of good: exciting wines and a menu of exceptional quality. Everything was right, perfectly seasoned sauces, insanely good fish, and a fresh energy in the whole experience. You will see me again soon

It's not easy to eat well in Amsterdam and like the rest, everything is quite expensive. This place is a bit out of the way compared to the busy streets but you can get there on foot. It's small and more than 6 people at the same table can become a problem. We ate many good oysters! The fish, when you understand what it is, is not bad. Be careful when buying wine because each bottle costs 50 and up and in the end we opted for beer after reading the menu. Anyway, not bad in my opinion. PS: like all places... it's not very clean but they are kind and nice and the food is quite good!

Had the fish and chips and it was stellar the fruits were Baller crispy, meaty, and the aïoli with tarragon killed it!

They do oyster happy hour on Saturday from 1-5pm for 1.5€ each. What a bargain, definitely worth a visit

Cozy restaurant, Excellent service and Outstanding Food and Drinks! Where do I begin? I sat down and started my experience with a Negroni. It was by far the best one I have ever had - just perfect. For food first with the small plate of Vongole. The sauce was so amazing. I had to request bread so that I could savor the taste. For main course I chose the Red Bream filet with fennel and apple. And completed my dining experience with chocolate cremeux! I was not disappointed. Highly recommend this restaurant and I’d recommend making a reservation especially on busier going out for dining nights.

From the moment you enter, the site transmits care and desire to do it well. The dining room, not very large, and cozy, allows you to see the kitchen in action, which always gives confidence. You can see the young energy behind the project, with a friendly, attentive team that works with enthusiasm. And that is reflected on the plate. We tried some fresh oysters, very good, quality product treated with respect. We chose a menu that sought to surprise, and although some ideas work more than others, there is intention, there is search, and that is appreciated. Sometimes, the most basic is the tastiest: good fish, well cooked, without frills, is already a success. As a detail, the cava could have been colder, with its ice bucket as it should. Still, the homemade desserts, especially a chocolate one, rounded out a very pleasant experience. It is a place where you can see the effort, the love for the kitchen and the respect for whoever sits at the table.

Despite receiving the completely wrong main course, it was still very much appreciated. The Good Companion has a cozy and intimate atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and knows what they are talking about. Definitely recommended if you are a fish fanatic.

I've visited this darling restaurant on two separate trips to Amsterdam. Both times the food and service were terrific, and the staff was friendly overall. I tried the fish and chips my second time there, and the fish was MELT-IN-YOUR-MOUTH-GOOD. I'll be back!

The waitress expertly opened a bottle of Beaujolais Blanc and provided excellent recommendations for both starters and the main course. This small, cozy restaurant offers outstanding service and a well-curated wine list. Be sure to check out the catch of the day—we had skrei, a seasonal winter cod, which was exceptional. Came for the Oyster event on Saturday. The oysters were good but nothing really special. Good price though. I lacked some choice in oysters but also for other snacks. It was 3 in the afternoon... I did not really feel like fish and chips... menu was more fitting for a lunch or dinner. Service was cordial but quite slow. We waited a lot for people to take our order and then waited more to be served food.

Great overall dinner experience. All of the fish was fantastic, especially the “seacuterie.” The staff and service were excellent, and I highly recommend for anyone wanting a great meal in Amsterdam. We will be back next time we’re in town!

The seafood dish is fresh and quite tasteful. We are satisfied with all dish we ordered but we find that the fish and chips is just average for us. If I remember correctly, the oysters has 3 different kinds and it would be better if waiter/waitress can recommended us which one to start first and following in sequences. The clams dish is my most favorite one and I really recommend if you are a fan of clams. We booked it in advance as we go there during the weekend and it was good decision as it’s full house. We could sit only for 2 hours as what we booked as they have other guests booked the table also. The staffs are friendly and assist you quite well. They answered us with the questions we had with smiles on their faces so we were happy with the services. The restaurant is quite small so it’s quite tight when it’s full house. We need to get out of our chair to make the space when other guest need to walk to their tables with baby troller.

The chef can cook. Every dish is delicious and flavorful. But young waitress and serving are disastrous. Not welcoming at all for reserved guests for seating down and ordering food and drink. Not courteous or not informative at all. Some stuff on the default menu was unavailable. Including wine. We were asking, is this some sort of a racism? Serving needs to be improved. Foods are great. Unprofessionalism and lack of courtesy and friendliness……

The best seafood restaurant in Amsterdam, in my opinion! I tried the three-course menu along with the recommended seasonal scallops dish, and everything was absolutely impeccable. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared using locally sourced seafood, and every bite was a highlight. I especially loved the pan-fried fish with the crab and shellfish sauce—the flavors were outstanding and delivered a fine dining experience without the hefty price tag. The wine recommendations were spot-on, perfectly complementing the seafood and tailored to our preferences. Highly recommend this gem for an unforgettable seafood experience!

Amazing place to eat sea food. I think they have the best fish and chips I have ever tasted and consistently because I have come back for it around 4 times and I never regret it. Also the chocolate mousse is insanely good. A must try place if you haven't already!

One of our favorite dining experiences. They are an actual local restaurant with quality food and drink offerings. The staff offers incredible, warm hospitality. Come hungry, and you will not be disappointed.

We used to go there frequently. I noticed the portions got much smaller while the price increased. Food quality is good but simple Fish & chips for 22,50 I found a bit too pricey. Staff is friendly and it’s a casual vibe

I reserved a table there one evening for the birthday of my dear and sweetheart who loves seafood! He really liked the three-course menu! On my side; as a vegetarian it was a bit light in terms of dish. A good big veggie salad. as a main course or a veggie fish and chips would be great! Service with a smile and fast in a warm place; we feel good there! In addition, the neighborhood is wonderful to discover by gleaning around the canals ;)

Small intimate place with quality food. We had the oysters, wolf fish and sea bass. All were spectacular and the service was excellent.

This was my second time having dinner at TGC. The food was good the first time and just as good this time around. This is significant as I'm a traveler who seeks good food. I had Fisherman's Stew last year. This time I had the whole fish sea bass. The sauce on the sea bass was fantastic. The oyster "trial" plate was fantastic with a combo of local oysters, some from France, and some from Ireland. The Dutch oysters were my favorite. I'd recommend this place if you are not picky about ambiance but prefer good food instead.

This restaurant is a gem, and you should definitely get a reservation, especially on the weekend. I recommend asking for a table in the front glassed-in porch area though if it is cooler, bring a wrap. Our waiter Joey was knowledgeable and helpful. We asked for a wine recommendation and he made a terrific suggestion, and not the most expensive. The raw oysters sampler was wonderful. He also steered us to the clams in garlic butter/broth, which were excellent, including the large razor clams, so tender and sweet. Don’t skip them! The accompanying bread was to die for. The langostinos had a delicious sauce but there was not much meat so I would pass on those.

This spot has been unlucky for restaurants, and so I hesitated to go eat at The Good Companion. But after the pandemic it received a fresh look, and good reviews so I decided to try it eventually. I regret now I didn't do so earlier, and I am very sad they are not open during weekday lunchtimes. This is an unpretentious, excellent fish restaurant that tries out interesting but uncomplicated dishes. Most of them are amazing, even if a few are a bit dull. The fish 'charcuterie' plate is divine. The prices are not outrageous, and the service is attentive and low key (and unhurried). My only gripe is that the dessert menu deserves some fresh thinking. This is a place that makes you feel welcome regardless of who you are.

My favorite fish place in Amsterdam even though I live here for 10 years! Good wine selection as well and the menu 3 courses is very affordable at 37,5€ which is becoming very rare in Amsterdam !

This is a hugely appealing friendly restaurant serving an excellent fish biased menu. We came 2 nights in a row having discovered it after the birth of our first Grandson. They generously congratulated us and remembered when I returned the second time with my son to celebrate again. Delighted that our daughter, son in law and new grandson live around the corner as this place gets all the important things right. Quality fresh food and great service. Highly recommended! And thank you for being so lovely!
