I took a photo for the app that counts my calories and recommended this restaurant. The croquettes with sauce fit exactly within my daily limit and tasted good. The place is tidy and the service is efficient.

A French-inspired restaurant with very interesting fusion seafood dishes. The atmosphere is refined and welcoming, though the service is less so.

Particularly delicious turbot, very attentive, fast and friendly service. Excellent quality, highly recommended.

The oysters were fresh and delicious!

The food was excellent. We had a whole turbot and it was wonderfully seasoned and not overcooked. One of the best cooked fish we’ve had. The salad that came with it was a surprising highlight. Simple but so refreshing and delicious. The other dishes we had were equally tasty and well balanced. Cute little place!

A must-visit! As of today, I’ve been here for the fifth time. The oysters are fantastic (and only €1.50 each on Saturdays), the fish is incredibly fresh, and every dish is packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. On top of the amazing food, the service is outstanding. The staff are attentive, genuinely friendly, always up for a joke, incredibly observant, and they take the time to tell you the story behind each wine they serve. This has become one of my favorite go-to spots, and I’m sure it will stay that way. I can’t recommend it highly enough. See you again soon! ;)

We stopped in at The Good Companion after visiting the Noordermarkt and were initially just looking for a quick drink. Although we came in wanting beer, we quickly found they had great options on tap and a lively, welcoming atmosphere that made us want to stay. The space was buzzing with energy—busy in a good way—but still comfortable. The staff were genuinely friendly and took time to chat with us and even offered helpful local touring tips, which we really appreciated. We didn’t eat on this visit, but the seafood being served looked excellent—oysters, mussels, and clams were passing by constantly and clearly a highlight of the menu. We’ll definitely be back to try the seafood platters next time. Overall, a great spontaneous stop with good drinks, warm service, and a vibrant neighborhood vibe.

RESTAURANT WHERE MONEY, NOT THE GUEST, TAKES THE CENTRAL We took a seat at a table for two, a meter away from a noisy group of four. As the alcohol flowed, the noise nuisance from the four grew to hurricane force. We asked the management to do something about this. They did not; four drunk people spend more money than two civilized people. They offered us another table (a neighboring table of two had already sought refuge), in other words, the uncivilized behavior was not addressed, but the "victims" of it had to make way. Cowardly management, an eatery without character.

We stopped in for oysters and appetizers 🤤 Everything was delicious – the oysters were incredibly tasty. The service was very fast, and I also want to mention the good wine selection. I definitely recommend this place.

What a surprise!!! This place was local. But didn’t know what to expect. Every single item we ordered was delicious perfection. Thanks for a phenomenal meal.

Menu is so close to being brilliantly executed. The ingredients are fresh and very enjoyable, especially the anchovy butter (work of art). Side dishes of roasted potatoes and asparagus were done perfectly. However Turbo was not seasoned enough, and the accompanying sauce was too overpowering (suggest either a more subtle version or a bright acid+ oil based sauce to cut the the naturally fattiness of the fish). Fish stew was not warm and didn’t have enough seafood flavor and tasted more like a confused tomato soup (suggest to use more seafood stock and aromatics). The staff were very friendly, welcoming and vigilant in attending to customers whilst giving privacy. Overall, just worth the price point but menu refinement and execution could make this place a gem.

A real treat! The ingredients are fresh and perfectly cooked. Special mention for the pea puree 🫛. I highly recommend it!!

BEWARE, you can order a maximum of 12 oysters in happy hour, which is not mentioned in website or anywhere, oysters were great, service not at all

We ordered seafood soup as our main course, with fried potatoes as a side dish. It was delicious, but the service was terrible. There were two of us, and after waiting almost two hours, they told us there was a problem with our order. My main course and my friend's fries both failed to be ordered, and we waited even longer. The portions were quite small; after the main course, side dish, and dessert, we were only about 50% full. People with larger appetites would need to order more.

It took quite a bit of time until the food got ready but it was worth the patience. The fish was super fresh and delicious. We also ordered Clams and bread beside, and enjoyed the tasty sauce.

After a visit to Polls Potten, we settled down for a glass of wine and a beer to discuss some moving matters. We were informed about the oyster special and ordered them. It is a shame that the staff was so pushy and brought the menu three times to try and sell us something else besides the oysters. Incidentally, this is not a place to just have a quick glass of wine, as there is one affordable one for 6.75. The rest is around 10 euros! This pushy lady also put a different wine on the bill than what we had ordered, so we still had to pay 9.75 for a glass of wine. And if you are going to serve such expensive wines… at least do so in a nice, decent wine glass.

We happened upon The Good Companion on a Saturday morning as we were walking from the Bus 18 stop to Saturday markets at Noordermarkt and Lindegracht. Their poster for their Saturday Oysters Special caught our eye and we returned later that afternoon. Their Dutch oysters were fabulous and very well priced. We also tried the Ansjo Toast and the fish charcuterie. Both were very different and full of flavors. If you are an oysters lover The Good Companion will not disappoint. We are planning to return later in the week.

We had an incredibly delicious meal; all the dishes were perfectly cooked. We sat in the conservatory, and my only comment is that you would expect to see someone around a bit more often to be able to order something—constructive criticism. We will be back.

Every one and a while you find a restaurant where you taste a dish so good you have to try another one from the menu to see if that also is amazingly good. De Visbar just happened to be one of those. We went for the Saturday Oyster Special and had a few other sides and dishes and everything was AMAZING. Special mentions to the Fish charcuterie which was divine and the Mussels Croquette which was to die for ! A special thanks for the habanero sauce (homemade I think) which was so good and paired magnificently with the oysters. PS: I can’t wait for the Fish & Chips to be back on the menu and I will be back to try it !

Overall, both the food and the service were good, however (having also worked in catering) I would remove a couple of tables to provide better service, a better appearance and convenience.

I think they’ve changed the menu or the chef. It used to be a very good, classic fish restaurant, and now it’s absolutely wonderful. The dishes are sophisticated, and the service is excellent.

Had the TGC taster menu for 6 of us. Food was great with attentive staff. It was a bit warm in the restaurant as the kitchen was adjoining. Just make sure to layer clothing a little :-).

So glad we stumbled upon this place, it was so good we came back the following night. Got the gochujang clams and next day the 4 course fish menu everything was exceptional and the staff is so lovely and friendly

It was one of the best restaurant in my life. I am traveling around the globe, but I never suspect that I am gonna eat such a good food in hearth of Amsterdam. Bread with anchovies butter was one of the best in my life, vongole was simply amazing same with trout as a starter. After that I ate seabass in hot oil, I ate the whole fish and it was heaven for me. Great selection of wine by glass, and good beer. Atmosphere was simply amazing and cozy, our waitress, don't know her name (blonde hair) was professional and friendly. I would recommend that restaurant and come back in next visit. Thank you for amazing evening.

Amazing service and the food was incredible. Went there on a Thursday evening and despite that the atmosphere was so great. The Good Companion was definitely peak of our Amsterdam trip and could not recommend it more!

The best of the best Dutch oysters, and profiteroles, and champagne 🤩

Pleasant atmosphere, but food was disappointing. Starter portions were terribly stingy, and far too much emphasis on butter in every dish that followed. Came away underwhelmed. Disconcertingly expensive, with a naïve kitchen.

If you like oysters, go visit their oyster 'hour'. Great quality oysters for an even better price. Great service, great food. The fried food is not gluten free, but the oysters and other seafood mostly are.

I hadn't been there in years and still assumed it was just fish and chips, but last night I was unexpectedly surprised to discover it's now a wonderful fish restaurant with fantastic wines and the friendliest sommelier in Amsterdam. I'll be back soon!

We had a wonderful meal at The Good Company! They used to serve delicious fish and chips, but I noticed they've taken the restaurant to a whole new level. We opted for the set menu and enjoyed all the chef's specialties. We were paired with some delicious wine. The service was excellent and knowledgeable. We sat in the cozy conservatory and had a lovely evening. We'll definitely be back!

Best fish and chips in town. Very flavorful food with friendly staff. Come enjoy a nice lunch here and enjoy the atmosphere.

The food was very average, even bland, and the service wasn't top-notch. The waitress was quite rude and didn't pay us any attention. Paying 28 euros for fish also meant paying 6 euros for fries and 5 euros for a salad. We ordered a salad, which was simply poor. All things considered, the room was very stuffy. Overall, we rate the entire experience as very poor.

Wonderful restaurant where the owner and chef personally walk around, deliver your food, pour the wine, and check in to say hello. Fresh local seafood with a variety of different flavors; great wine list; and cozy feeling. I highly recommend coming for a plate of oysters and staying for the starters and a main. We couldn't decide so ordered four starters and each one, I would have ordered again. Wonderful find. I will be back.

These guys are excellent. No complaints at all as a kiwi who grew up eating fish n chips every Friday. One wish is that these guys would reinstate take away as an option - to me fish n chips is at its heart a take away treat ❤️

We had a great experience here. The seafood was fresh and seasoned well. We talked about coming back for a second meal during our short stay but just ran out of time.

Wine selection was unimpressive. The oysters had shell shards in several oysters and quite disappointed with our mussels--portions were small and not enough broth and no bread to dip said broth in.

Sea bass with mayonnaise. Ordered anchovies, and they didn't come. Restaurant for tourists, but not for food.

I’ve been a customer here for many years now, and so far my experience has been great! It’s my family’s go-to place if we want to have great seafood and it hasn’t let us down. The food is always great, especially their oysters and langoustines. The servers are all friendly and our orders are fulfilled quickly seeing as how packed the restaurant usually is. Definitely recommend!

We ended up here out if chance...it was raining at dinner time. The menu is thin; only four "large plate" items to choose from, and as explained to us, only two of the four were for a single person. No free bread up front; you must pay for their sourdough. I ordered the bream fillet, which was 1/8 inch at its thickest part...maybe 3 oz with a finger added on the scale. It was a sorry excuse for a meal at €25. My side salad dressing was simple oil and vinegar; no other choices. It was disappointing from every dimension. I would think twice on this place. If it's raining, just get wet.

Absolutely nice experience and fresh fish!

This was a best sea food meal I have for a while, we ordered sea bream, it was cooked in a divine sauce, and tarbit fish which fist time I try, it was very nice and melt in mouth, scollop was prepared in nice fresh sauce, overall a great experience, highly recommended for seafood fans!

The fried potato cubes were flavorful, but a few were overcooked and too hard to enjoy. Unfortunately, several clams had noticeable sand, which affected the overall experience and didn’t quite meet my expectations.

Had a great meal here, they had a new menu. DELICIOUS! I will definitely come back here! They also had a Sommelier who had chosen the perfect wines for us with the dishes. Definitely worth a visit.

Delicious tasty fish dishes prepared in an excellent way. And now even better than the old concept (we don't really miss the fish & chips and mussel pan 😉). Luckily we live around the corner, so we can come back soon.

The food was excellent. Had some sourdough bread as a starter with anchovies butter, which I can recommend anyone- it’s class! The seacuterie board was a bit overpriced for what we received. However, the mains, see images, were both out of this world delicious and fairly priced. Can high recommend the sea bass and sea bream!

Fresh fish and oysters. High quality and amazing tasting fish dishes. Price quality was good, portions were a bit small but they all tasted amazing and had an original twist to them.

The starter was nice, we ordered the seacuteries with some bread. But after that came a long wait for the main dishes. The sea bass was delicious but the mussels had a whole story coming along with it. The waitress on her way serving the dish, dropped a few mussels out of the dish, right in front of our eyes, but not saying sorry or have any reaction to it. The mussels themselves were not hot at all. We also ordered asparagus as a side dish, and what a ridiculous price, 8.5 euros for like, what, 6 pieces of asparagus??? So yeah, definitely will not come back and also not recommend!

This is a great seafood restaurant owned by local residents. We tried each one with trepidation at first, but the dishes became more and more delicious, and we kept adding more orders, which amused the waiter. All the seafood exceeded expectations until I saw three fish cookbooks on the cooking table.

We had been walking forever! We needed to sit and eat and drink! Nice big tables outside on a beautiful night! It’s a big place. People are super spread out. Once we got a chance to order, we found out they were no longer serving dinner. Oh well. Ok! Pivot! We got drinks and the cauliflower and the nachos! They were amazing! And so was the food 😉Honestly have a seat, a drink, a snack!

Locale informale fuori dalle più battute strade di turisti; ha un piccolo dehor e una raccolta saletta interna con i tavoli abbastanza vicini gli uni agli altri. Personale gentilissimo. La cucina è a vista. Il menù non presenta tantissime scelte ma la materia prima è eccellente e locale. Servono del pesce freschissimo, mulluschi, ostriche buonissime a costi adeguati (comunque piuttosto contenuti rospetto a molti altri locali). Ci tornerei molto volentieri

Me and my friend were craving seafood and the Good Companion did more than satisfy that craving. The service was lovely, one of our waiter’s Joey was very helpful. Providing excellent recommendations and tips. The other waitress was super friendly and attentive to us. We ordered a variety of dishes all of them delicious and kept us ordering more food. The dessert card could be better but the rest of the menu was fulfilling Our heart broke a bit when we found out the fish and chips have been removed from the menu. But we will keep an eye out for the Monday specials in hopes to see it again.

This is a gem place ! Definitely recommend this place for the best quality seafood with delicious flavors! The chef here pour in lot of love while making and cooking these dishes so the taste of the dishes are next level ! I was in food coma after having just one bite 😍🥹

What a surprise! I ended up at TGC's 8th anniversary by chance and was completely blown away. The renewed concept promises a lot of good: exciting wines and a menu of exceptional quality. Everything was right, perfectly seasoned sauces, insanely good fish, and a fresh energy in the whole experience. You will see me again soon

It's not easy to eat well in Amsterdam and like the rest, everything is quite expensive. This place is a bit out of the way compared to the busy streets but you can get there on foot. It's small and more than 6 people at the same table can become a problem. We ate many good oysters! The fish, when you understand what it is, is not bad. Be careful when buying wine because each bottle costs 50 and up and in the end we opted for beer after reading the menu. Anyway, not bad in my opinion. PS: like all places... it's not very clean but they are kind and nice and the food is quite good!

Had the fish and chips and it was stellar the fruits were Baller crispy, meaty, and the aïoli with tarragon killed it!

They do oyster happy hour on Saturday from 1-5pm for 1.5€ each. What a bargain, definitely worth a visit

Cozy restaurant, Excellent service and Outstanding Food and Drinks! Where do I begin? I sat down and started my experience with a Negroni. It was by far the best one I have ever had - just perfect. For food first with the small plate of Vongole. The sauce was so amazing. I had to request bread so that I could savor the taste. For main course I chose the Red Bream filet with fennel and apple. And completed my dining experience with chocolate cremeux! I was not disappointed. Highly recommend this restaurant and I’d recommend making a reservation especially on busier going out for dining nights.

Fresh seafood and seasoned well .Delicious !

From the moment you enter, the site transmits care and desire to do it well. The dining room, not very large, and cozy, allows you to see the kitchen in action, which always gives confidence. You can see the young energy behind the project, with a friendly, attentive team that works with enthusiasm. And that is reflected on the plate. We tried some fresh oysters, very good, quality product treated with respect. We chose a menu that sought to surprise, and although some ideas work more than others, there is intention, there is search, and that is appreciated. Sometimes, the most basic is the tastiest: good fish, well cooked, without frills, is already a success. As a detail, the cava could have been colder, with its ice bucket as it should. Still, the homemade desserts, especially a chocolate one, rounded out a very pleasant experience. It is a place where you can see the effort, the love for the kitchen and the respect for whoever sits at the table.

Despite receiving the completely wrong main course, it was still very much appreciated. The Good Companion has a cozy and intimate atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and knows what they are talking about. Definitely recommended if you are a fish fanatic.
