Terrible service. The old guy in the service department was incredibly rude. He tried to overcharge us, and the sandwiches weren't as advertised.

Sorry, but I can't give this place more than 1 star. Don't go! You're genuinely paying a higher price for things that aren't on the menu (a scam). We all paid a 2 euro surcharge per sandwich. Is this listed anywhere on the menu? Nope. The menu says you can choose between a white or brown roll with your sandwiches, "this is the starting price." When ordering, they asked if we wanted white or brown bread... So they mean a larger roll than the roll. If you want a roll, you have to specify it yourself. It's not stated anywhere that a different type of roll is even an option, which I believe is legally required... A cheap cappuccino for 2.60? Unfortunately, you pay 4.20 for it. Suddenly you're paying for a "large" cappuccino, which isn't even on the menu... Moreover, the lunch spot was quite dirty, with trash everywhere and nothing being cleaned up. It seemed like everything was being done by one man alone. We also had to wait over an hour for our food, and several drinks and sandwiches were brought out incorrectly. Then I got my sandwich on an Italian bun instead of a brown roll, but oh well, I wasn't expecting much by then. Listen to the reviews; 3.5 stars is hard to get with a few bad reviews...

Super great little baguette for a great price. A great insider tip.

Price Scam: Girlfriend and I went to have a quick lunch, ordered 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks. Paid 26.75€. The menu says 5.95€ per sandwich, 4.2€ smoothie and 2.6€ coffee. We felt robbed. The reason we got was that there are different sizes for food and drinks. Opened the menu again and the prices we paid were not there; only a “Vanaf” written at the top. We did not get a receipt and we did not get more explanations even after asking. The sandwiches were small but the worker(/owner?) told us we got the bigger ones and thus paid more. The breads are on display. There are only 2 kinds: brown and white. Both the same size. We were never asked what size we wanted and there are no sizes on the menu so we didn’t know to ask. (Same for the cappucino). The food was good which is why I do not understand why not just be clear about the prices you want us to pay instead of using such underhanded tactics. Seeing the reviews I can tell we are not the first ones. Finally, even thought it was “only” an 8€ difference, it is a ~ 30% markup. Unacceptable and even if it had been communicated clearly, grossly overpriced.

Got a butter croissant here for €2.50, and it looks like it came from under the counter somewhere—it's incredibly old. Just say it's very old. ...

I'm very disappointed with my recent visit to this establishment. Where do I begin? The glassware was visibly dirty, with food residue still on it. The employee who served us had noticeably dirty hands (!). The restrooms were downright filthy—dirty floors and uncleaned toilets. The rolls were rock hard, as if they were days old. The cookies served with coffee were chewy instead of crispy. The coffee was so weak it barely tasted good. To top it all off, the employee charged a completely arbitrary price at checkout that didn't match the menu at all. When I inquired about this, I only received an indifferent shrug. I advise everyone against visiting this establishment. There are plenty of other cafes in the area where both hygiene and customer service are top-notch.

Bad service, not friendly! Apple pie per slice is €8.00. You can choose that in the display case and there are no prices, but this price is exorbitant. The toilet was really dirty. This place is not recommended.

Don’t go here, we felt scammed. We asked two cappuccino and the guy made us pay two big cappuccino, that weren’t on the menu, with a increase on the price.

Not treated nicely, two cappuccinos are listed as 2.35 on the menu but had to pay 8.40. Ridiculous. Just be honest about your prices.

Paid 36,- for 2 sandwiches, 2 juices and 2 cappuccinos. Later calculated again based on the menu and should have been at least 10 euros less? But apparently something that happens more often, judging by the reviews. Will not come here again, which is a shame because the food was fine.

Very strange restaurant that should be rated for scam. Annoying because the food was delicious and the coffee good. Do not go there because he charges unclear and unwanted 'upgrades' and leaves out ingredients for the sandwiches. The prices for pastries are also not on the menu so it seems he charges as high as he wants.

Ordered 2 cappuccinos, unfortunately it took 15 minutes despite the fact that we were the only ones at that moment. When we had our cappuccino the taste was watery and a bit of milk, no coffee taste to be found. The cups arrived already dirty, under coffee and ground coffee grounds. Paid 8 euros for a cup of water with milk and the man working didn't feel like it.

Nice little cafe in the middle of the city. The atmosphere is really great, but on a day when the whole city was full you should get a temporary helper so that at least someone could clear the tables every now and then.

I felt cheated when leaving this restaurant. The food was good, but they double charged us for all three of our sandwiches according to the menu and did not provide a receipt. I thought that might have been a singular mistake but there are other comments here reporting the same experience. Would not recommend.

If you take the time to take a break here during your trip, you're fighting a losing battle. The staff is unfriendly, and the service is beyond poor. Two coffees and two hot chocolates couldn't be served within half an hour. A truly terrible, unappetizing cafe.

Sandwiches well filled. Quiet to sit. Prices are shown on the menu as starting prices. It's cozy.

Wonderful experience and food☺️

The food was really really good, but please do something about the prizes on the menu. According to the prizes on the menu we would have spent about 15 euros, when we paid for it all of a sudden the total prize added up to 25 euros. The menu for the sandwiches did say "vanaf", but it didn't clarify what would elevate the prize and we hadn't expected it to be that much higher than the prizes that were on the menu. Please FIX YOUR PRIZES ON THE MENU! apart from that, the service is really great, the employee was really nice, it's a really cute spot to have lunch and the food is really good, but change the prizes on the menu. Otherwise people will continue to feel as if they're being misled. Printing new menus shouldn't be that hard, right? I don't think people would mind if the prize is a bit higher, as long as your being honest about it on the menu.

Food was delicious, tasty sandwiches. Nice background music. Prices not transparent! Charged 8 euros more. Menu prices do not match the final bill. Many 'starting from' prices. If you want to eat here, tell us clearly in advance what you want (including what type of sandwich). If you ultimately receive a 'more expensive' sandwich, please indicate this immediately so that you are not faced with an increased bill.

We won't go there again! Prices on the menu are not transparent! Due to previous positive experiences, we decided to go to this cafe again this morning for a drink and a sandwich. When we walked in, there was only one other couple there and the place was otherwise empty. It wasn't warm, so we left our jackets on as the outside temperature was around freezing. We enjoyed a delicious sandwich and a good cup of coffee! However, at checkout we were shocked by the price. The menu showed a starting price, but it was not clear when the price would increase. This already caused some doubts, and this was confirmed at the checkout. The price of the coffee and the healthy sandwich turned out to be higher than indicated on the menu. We decided to pay, but were still unsure about the price. A little later we went back and eventually got 2 euros back (and that's actually not right). We are still left with a bit of a bad taste from the experience.

BEWARE, THIS MAN CONTINUES TO DELIBERATELY SCAM CUSTOMERS! Looks nice, the sandwiches we ordered were tasty. Only at checkout the bill was higher than expected. Checked receipt, where significantly higher prices were charged than on the menu. The difference was refunded without discussion. Tip for the owner to calculate menu prices, or invest in new menu cards. As an entrepreneur, you don't want to give the impression that you are doing this on purpose, do you?

The sandwiches were very tasty and well priced. Pleasant atmosphere and good service. I personally think the reactions about the attitude are exaggerated, it's just a bit more 'laid-back'

Years ago I came here regularly and it was always great. With that memory in mind we entered a very empty store. There were only 2 other guests. Rarely have I encountered such a gruff person in the service. There was no laughing matter. His attitude was anything but welcoming or friendly. A few meters away from our table he asked what we wanted to drink. Sprite was not available so something else had to be chosen. Also when ordering the sandwiches, something was out of stock twice (chicken curry and herb butter). All this was communicated in an unfriendly manner. We received the message that they were going to make the card smaller because there was way too much on it. The sandwiches were fresh, the toppings seemed to be thrown on in scant quantities. The toilets were dirty and there was no toilet paper in either the men's or women's toilets. A stack of napkins lay ready. This was probably to replace toilet paper. You don't want to touch the soap dispenser because it's dirty. The area where the sandwiches are made and the area behind it was messy with garbage bags on the floor. Looked dirty and unsanitary. When paying, the amount was so high that I suspected it was incorrect. Stupidly enough, I didn't say anything about this. I actually wanted to leave ASAP. My answer to the question whether I had liked it, namely not really, was ignored. I'm writing this review so that guests can make an informed choice about whether they want to eat here. My advice is to spend your money elsewhere. My advice to the gentleman serving is to realize that customers ensure your turnover and therefore your income. If you don't like your job, go do something that makes you happy.

We thought we would have a nice sandwich for a while, but that was a total disappointment. Several menu choices were out of stock. What we got was slapped on the bun and had little flavor. The man at the counter couldn't smile and at checkout everything was much more expensive. There were starting prices on the menu but no choice as to what the additional price should be, so we also felt ripped off! And there was no toilet paper in the toilet but a pile of napkins!

Just avoid this place. The sandwiches are nothing special. It all takes an immensely long time and you also get scammed at checkout! You pay much more than is stated on the card. And we are not the only ones to read this way. Never again! And don't do it for anyone reading this either. This tent simply needs to be taken off the market!

Overpriced, poor service and outdated atmosphere

Very cozy place with a huge menu with something for everyone. I like to come here for lunch with friends or alone with some reading material. The service was also prompt and friendly today and it was delicious again. Definitely deserves a higher rating here, hopefully this helps :)

The food was goed. But the price was terrible. My sister had a soup of the day for 5,70€ and I had a caramba bread for 5,60€. We had also a Ginger tea for about 3,20 € and a smal chassis for about 2,60 € in the end the hole order was about 23,10€. So how could it be that we have to pay 23,10€? Maby the price of menu wasn't updated at all....? So please take care of what you order in the Opstapje.

Pay attention here. Uses starting prices. You can pay a lot for unsolicited 'upgrades' at checkout. The card shows pistolet white/brown. Operation requires white/brown. Then you pay extra for an unsolicited Italian bun. Just put the prices on the map transparently. Then you can choose yourself.

Check your receipt! Higher prices and surcharges. Filthy toilets.

Asking the price before ordering a pastry will prevent surprises. Unfortunately we didn't do that. We won't be back, there are plenty of better and nicer alternatives in the city center.

Atmospheric affair. Not really friendly man as the only one in the service. Fortunately, we stuck to 2 cappuccinos, which were much too hot and therefore a tasteless milk container, because at checkout I had to pay €8, while a cappuccino on the menu costs €2.65. When I said something about this, the laconic answer was; 'yes, 2 large cappuccinos. I usually make big ones.' There is no choice of large/medium/small on the menu. I said he should have asked first. He shrugged and said nothing. I was so amazed and paid, because I wanted to leave, but I still said that it is easy to earn money this way. Before I went to pay I heard another customer say something about the bill. That was about sandwiches. The answer this gentleman received was that the prices on the card are 'from prices'... What a scam!!!!

First impression was ohh nice thing. Remarkably empty for lunchtime, but okay. It took no less than 25 minutes before we received our ordered sandwiches. And if you decide to use a lot of things from Lidl, don't show it so easily. 2.50 for a glass of (also) long-life milk, Be careful when paying, the prices are higher than indicated on the menu.

Quality of the food has deteriorated. We had to wait half an hour for our drinks and almost an hour for our food. Sandwiches are then also unraveled. Owner not very friendly or service-oriented. Very sad, not again.

We ate delicious sandwiches, but you paid much more for your sandwich than stated on the menu. Watery cappuccino and not nice service.

Very cute and cozy café, the furniture and decorations are reminiscent of old Paris. A lot of choice of different sandwiches, pastries and drinks, and everything I have tried so far has been delicious! The man running the café is very friendly. I really recommend Het Opstapje!

We were not convinced. Nice little place on the busy street side of Groningen but the food was not convincing and too expensive for what we got. Quality of the food was also not given. If you just want a coffee or a fresh orange juice (what was my highlight) than we can recommend that place but for a nice breakfast it’s just not enough. Overall it was ok but I am sure there are much better places in Groningen.

If you want a good lunch this is an excellent place in Groningen. Here we take the time to prepare your sandwich fresh and well on the spot. Not a quick bite. Delicious sandwiches. Highly recommended!

Scammed. Sandwiches are “starting at prices” so that the owner can fool you at checkout. This adds a few euros per sandwich. The 'starting prices' are therefore a mystery to me. In addition, very moderately invested. But nice coffee.

Coffee with cake. We thought the stroopwafel pie and apple crumble were at least a week old. The whipped cream on the flan was as dry as butter.

The guy charged us 17 euros for two coffees and two croissants. When we queried he insisted it was correct until we checked the menu. He'd overcharged us for the coffees and said the price of the croissants wasn't on the menu. It also wasn't in the display. Didn't feel right. Felt conned. The coffee was good though, pity really as we won't be going there again.

I was walking with my bsf thinking where to take her for coffee cause we like to try cute cafes, and then I stumbled upon this one. When we came in it felt like we stepped back in time, with the vintage music and the decor looking out of place. The Mr that helped us was very nice. The coffee and the food was yummy. The cafe gives off an eerie vibe however we liked it, and I think more people would appreciate it as well. I definitely recommend coming here!

Had a nice sandwich, it was very busy, only 1 man working, but the service was great.

They should have called it a step down

It was a beautiful day in Groningen. A little break from the pre-Christmas stress. Groningen is always worth a trip. Whether summer or winter we were there in both seasons. A good address for a short vacation.

The atmosphere in the small shop is okay, but the service is poor, unfortunately there was only one person who had to do everything. Food is reasonable

We had lunch here. The service was very slow. There seemed to be only one person doing everything on his own on a saturday. All the empty tables also still had used plates, mugs, glasses etc on them which killed the atmosphere. The bread was very nice though. Simple, but tasted very good.

Ondanks dat de aankleding van het restaurant gezellig is, is het in zijn geheel een ontzettende afrader. Het was slechts door 1/3 bezet maar op alle andere tafels stonden nog oude borden en bekers. Tevens stonden deze her en der op andere plekken. Het was niet schoon, de wc's waren niet schoon gemaakt leek het en ook was het al een tijdje niet afgestoft. Er was slechts 1 medewerker die de boel niet onder controle leek te hebben. Bij het afrekenen op aanraden van oude reviews extra op de prijs gelet. De eerste keer kwam er 26 euro te staan op het pinautomaat ipv de 13.60 die het was. De tweede keer 17 euro, en bij de derde keer kwam er het bedrag te staan dat ik zelf aangaf.

Nice place where it is pleasantly busy. They have delicious baguettes with all kinds of toppings. Plenty of places to sit

Pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. Wide choice of various sandwiches. Reasonably priced.

Nettes kleines Café. Kaffee schmeckt gut, die heiße Schokolade war dagegen mit "Chocomel" nicht sonderlich besonders. Wir hatten Zimtschnecke, Croissant, Schokokuchen und ein getoastetes Baguette. 3/4 waren sehr gut, Schokokuchen war ok, aber nicht überragend. Leider roch es die ganze Zeit komplett angebrannt im Laden. Der Service war mehr schlecht als recht: Alle Tische standen mit altem Geschirr voll, was auch nach unserem Aufenthalt dort weiterhin stand. Der Tisch Service war hier und da vorhanden, aber auch erst nach mehrmaligem Winken. Wir würden nicht wiederkommen.

Heerlijke lunch en koffie, gezellig sfeertje, goede locatie!

Ooit was dit mijn favoriete broodjeszaak. Helaas is het nu een rommelige donkere zaak met een onvriendelijke man achter de toonbank en de beide broodjes hadden weinig smaak! Helaas niet meer wat het ooit was!

Gezellig, heerlijk eten, ruime keus

Lekker broodje filet American zonder al te veel poespas. Heet hier broodje Dow Jones. Lekker op klein terrasje kijken naar voorbij lopende mensen. Prima plekje.

Ein atmosphärisch sehr schön aber schon etwas älter eingerichtetes Lunchcafe. Eine Riesenauswahl an Broodjes und Ähnlichem. Da es kein glutenfreies Brot gab, habe ich meine Auswahl auf Salat bekommen. Besonders der Beenham mit Mosterd-Cranberry-Soße ist sehr zu empfehlen. Eine sehr gelungene Mittagspause!

We moesten een stuk meer betalen dan de prijzen die op de menukaart stonden.

Het broodje was lekker. Wel een beetje een rare combi met ongebrande cashewnoten. Het was niet duur en waar voor je geld. Wel moest ik zelf een servet halen en misschien is deze zaak wel toe aan een goede opknapbeurt. Al met al wel aan te raden.

The hall decoration has a good atmosphere, BUT there was a critical shortage of waiters. We waited almost 20 minutes for 2 cups of coffee. Some visitors simply left without waiting for attention. What a contradictory impression

Leuk zitten aan een drukke straat. Lekkere broodjes en een goede prijs-kwaliteitverhouding. De broodjes waren erg snel klaar.

Niet wat ik had verwacht. Tosti, diverse mogelijkheden, bleek toch erg beperkt. Helaas bleek het ook nog een panini te zijn. Jammer😣

Wij hebben hier heerlijk gegeten, aangezien ik hier in de reacties lees en gezien heb daar deze man de hele toko alleen runt heb ik diep respect!! Het waren super lekkere broodjes!! Geen grapjes maken over bakker Bart, maar ook dat werd gewaardeerd! Wij komen zeker terug, geweldig mooie tent...ff terug in de tijd!!

Vriendelijke mensen, goed eten, betaalbaar, aanrader!

Sehr rustikale Einrichtung und wer sowas mag wird sich hier sehr wohlfühlen! Der Kaffe und Kakao waren sehr gut und das Schinken Käse Croissant wurde sogar warm gemacht. Gerne beim nächsten mal wieder und dann probiere ich auch gerne ein Hauptgericht.

The place is nice, cozy and warm. The staff are nice, fast and the order came in 5 min. The food was normal and the prices are not so high. Overall a nice place for a quick coffee in the morning. Jin was great person to deal with, so funny and quick.

Nog niet eerder z’n vies en rommelig horecabedrijf gezien. Achter de toonbank lag allemaal rommel, vieze theedoeken, onafgedekte vuilnisbak en dozen. De zalm was hard/uitgedroogd aan de randen. Tonijn uit een bakje terwijl op de kaart huisgemaakte staat. Ik ga ook een melding maken bij keuringsdienst van waren.

Kennelijk wisselt het personeel hier geregeld, omdat de reviews wisselend zijn. Wij hebben het getroffen, vlotte en correcte bediening. Heerlijk appel kruimeltaart gegeten, leuke ambiance. Zou er zeker terugkomen.

Ongeïnteresseerde bediening. Broodje naar verhouding prijzig. Grote rij achter ons maar geen enkele intentie om daar iets mee te doen. Brie op zich prima. Wit stokbroodje besteld, bruin gekregen tegen meerprijs want panini.
