The food tastes good, and the service is friendly and fast. However, the portions are very small for quite a bit of money. I wouldn't return or recommend this place.

An amazing cosy Japanese restaurant. The nasu dengaku was one of the best I’ve eaten, and the tonkatsu pork was simply delicious. After some bad experiences elsewhere in Amsterdam I’m so glad we found Hikage. Thank you Annie and team!

The food here is really good and high quality, and the decor and atmosphere are calm, sophisticated and vibey. Sound levels are reasonable even though tables are close together, so easy for my friend and I to chat. It’s expensive, but so is all Japanese food in European cities.

Cozy, intimate Japanese restaurant. We had the best of dinners. Particularly recommend the takoyaki balls and the sashimi platter. Shout out to our server who was the nicest and most accommodating ever. Would love to come back. A true hidden gem.

Cozy restaurant in the middle of Jordaan. Great Japanese food with delicious flavours, we loved the dinner that we had here! It’s a small restaurant, so I’d recommend making a reservation.

Food was nice, expecially hand rolls and Macrell. They don’t have full meals, just drinks and snacks kind of thing. Cloudy drink was amazing - iam not alcohol lover, but tasted more like a plum

Bad service and atmosphere. Not recommended, not for having a nice, relaxed dinner, nor for the food. They could not even serve a coffee.

Mediocre food, fish of the day was actually frozen, the rest of the dishes are very simple/fried, not worth the high price. At least the service was top notch which is not a thing in Amsterdam. Glad we tried but not coming back

I made a reservation here a long time ago and made a deposit of 45 euros. When I arrived on the day of the reservation, it turned out that the restaurant was closed and there was a note saying that they were closed due to holidays. I emailed, called and filled out a contact form but no response. I'm really disappointed about this!

Lovely evening all around with amazing service and great ambiance (lighting, space, music). Every dish was absolutely delicious! The waitress was very well-informed and helpful. Will definitely return!

Great atmosphere, great food, beautiful area, excellent and courteous service

On valentines day , found this cozy small Japanese “izakaya” like restaurant with a modern twist. Luckily we made a reservation up front to avoid being fully booked. The interior is simple but refined. Wide range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. We had a yuzu chuhigh , grapefruit chuhigh. Really recommended , alcohol with refreshing taste containing lemon and grapefruit. Food menu , bit of everything from meat/seafood/ sushi etc based on portions to share. Price quality wise it was surely decent for what you get. Special menu , range of dishes that change from time to time. Karaage chicken, crunchy chicken and great portion. Salmon was super , perfectly served half raw. Agedashi tofu , soft on the inside and full of flavour on the outside. Definitely worth for a return visit.

The staff were very welcoming, attentive and friendly. A rare treat given how rude most wait staff in the Netherlands are. The food was extremely delicious. My partner and I greatly enjoyed eating here for his birthday! I loved how cosy and intimate the atmosphere was.

Nice Japanese food and as a nonexpert I was impressed by the Saki selection But it is over priced, and not that unique of an experience. So if you're up for some vibes and good service, above average but nothing to write about food and try some more unique sake try this place out

Food was great, but service not. It feels like students working there who know nothing about the service. We were left sitting on the dirty table for 15 min before they cleaned it. Also the food was arriving in a strange order, I prefer to start with vegetables and finish with meat, but vegetables arrived last.

The Tonkatsu is basically a Schweineschnitzel, which isn’t a bad thing but if the waitress additionally forgets to bring the Tonkatsu sauce for half an hour it’s just a very dry piece of fried pork coming with some coleslaw (?), two tomatoes and three salad leaves for a quite high price (19€). The waiting time in general is SUPER long for such a small restaurant. We were told right in the beginning that our food wouldn’t arrive at the same time, but didn’t expect it to arrive that far apart from each other. I had my starter and main 30 minutes before my friend got anything she ordered except for her lemonade?? When she finally got her Mixed Tempura after an hour ! waiting it was a really small portion for 24€ and not a very good Tempura. Also one of the waitresses spilled water on us (we were sitting at the bar) and didn’t feel the need to say anything about it. I literally had to wipe water off my FACE and the table because she spilled it everywhere while cleaning some glasses. The rest of them were really nice and also knew how to apologize ;) All in all we were a little annoyed by the staff and the waiting time and didn’t order a dessert or a second drink but just left quickly after we had our food and paid.

So happy to have found this cozy Japanese restaurant near our house. Food was delicious. I will come back for every dish again and again. Salmon tataki with yuzu onion dressing was next level. We had crispy aubergine, tonkatsu, mackerel and tuna handroll. Fish was fresh and flavors were very well balanced. Staff were super kind. Would definitely recommend.

Cute little place with delicious food - everything i've tried was amazing. The variety of vegan options was pleasantly surprising. My favorite things were deserts though! Mochi ice cream and matcha tiramisu stole my heart

Had to wait a very long time for the food to arrive. A bit strange restaurant with 3 ladies serving who were actually more concerned with each other than with the guests. Too bad because the food is delicious when it finally arrives. Had to also point out to the waitress that we had already been waiting 45 minutes... Shame. I ate here 6 months ago and it was the same story.

Deliciously catered menu with delicate and interesting flavour combinations. Duck and eel were my favourite of the night. Cozy small restaurant. Diligent service. Maybe on the bit pricey side or portions could be a bit bigger. I would recommend to try out!

We tried a variety of dishes, and they were all tasty, though the tonkatsu was a bit dry for my liking. Overall, it's a great spot to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine and drinks.

This charming traditional Japanese restaurant is both exceptionally tasty and has superb service! Very beautiful space and incredibly fresh and delicious fish! It was so good we took three hand roles for take away for family at home. Five stars!!!

Tapas like sizes. The vegan eggplant... oh my gosh dreamy. They know what they are doing. Prices are a bit higher. The vibe in there is really cool :)

I ate here recently and have a few things to note. The service is very good! Customer friendly, fast and neat. The food at this restaurant was very tasty. It is not the largest restaurant, but quite cozy and cozy in a great location. I had the kara age chicken and my brother had the ton katsu pork. The question then is why the 3 stars? Although the food was extremely tasty and the service was extremely good, I must report that the portions are extremely small and pricey for what you get. The prices wouldn't be a problem if the portions were a bit larger, but unfortunately you can't have everything sometimes. Highly recommended, but be prepared to spend a lot of money if you want to walk away feeling full. If it was just about the taste and service I would give 5 stars :).

Every item we had was delicious. The menu is pretty limited, so you won’t find anything exotic; however, there’s enough variety to find something for everyone.

My vegan/vegetarian experience was mediocre with the price range and expectations behind the comparisons. There was nothing special about the vegan/vegetarian option. For me, sushi should already taste good without soya dip and in general the fried veggie should be companied with good sauce for a special experience. I couldn’t find what I expected. The staff were very friendly, kind and attentive.

We ordered Takoyai and it’s freezing inside. Tokatsu is really dry

We spent a very nice evening at Hikage. The food was fantastic and the service was great. I can recommend it to anyone who likes or wants to try authentic Japanese food.

Nice restaurant with all kinds of tasty dishes to share. There are many vegetarian options, and a large selection of cocktails (good gin and tonics) and other drinks. Also good desserts, especially the chili ice cream. Fast service and good value for money. Highly recommended!

What a great dinner at Hikage again. Beautiful menu, fresh ingredients and great cooking. Great tasty and surprising vegan dishes. Staff good and atmosphere warm minimalistic. Balance price/ quality very good. This restaurant goes on improving itself again and again. I recommend Hikage strongly.

Delicious food and fast service, special drinks and a beautiful decor. I would like to come back often for the agedashi tofu and the chili ice cream in particular!

The food is tasty, but given the price we expected a little more. It's nice that there are plenty of vegan options. The decor is minimalist. The seats are not that comfortable: you sit on either a stool or a window seat that feels hard. The service is fast and correct. We did find the staff a bit distant and not cordial.

The tuna salmon roll is very tasty. Tempura prawn and scallop is good, not too oily, but poor flavour though. The dashi is good but not so rich, that doesn’t help. I didn’t like the mochi matcha ice cream, way too creamy drowning the matcha flavour. Very nice collection of sake, gin and whiskey. Overall food price tag doesn’t reflect the quality in my opinion which is ofcourse very personal.

Amazing spot in the city! Food was so fresh and quality, offering a variety of Japanese dishes. The service was top and the ambience was just right. Went there with a friend and we ordered the sashimi platter (super fire), chicken karage (amazing), tuna hand roll (fire), spicy octopus (good), duck (don’t order, too chewy), miso aubergine (great), sake (fire), matcha tiramisu (good). Overall, highly recommend and the photos in the reviews don’t do this place justice.

A nice surprise! We stopped for a quick lunch and got surprised by a well serviced correctly priced true Japanese restaurant where food and cocktails are well executed and served. We will be back and we already suggested it to our pickiest friends.

Nice little place with attentive service and great food. The menu has a variety of options, from tempura to sashimi to meat mains. The hikage salad was particularly delicious. I’m excited to come back and try even more dishes.

Lovely, cozy Japanese whisky bar with food for accompaniment. There are vegan options as well as a lunch menu. The dinner menu is a sharing menu. The fried eggplant (nasu dengaku) was the most memorable dish of the place.

Liked the ambiance. Very good food. The beef japonese style was very tasty and the takyaki octupus balls as well. Really recommended.

If you want to be served mediocre overpriced tiny portioned food that pretends to be "Japanese", then by all means visit. The menu is basic, the quality is mediocre. If you thinking to try their ceviche don't bother, for 14E you get a tiny portion of kind of salad, the best joke was the "duck", cos this must have been some miniature special precious duck to get those 6 tiny sashimi size slices... feels like Amsterdam is really plagued with places like these...

We had such a lovely dinner here at Hikage! The sashimi is very high quality, and all their ingredients taste very fresh. Amazing little treat for our taste buds! We saw that a lot of tables opted for the sake tasting, but we went for some cocktails. The Late Night Yuzu cocktail with spicy sake was incredible! The ambience is cute and intimate, it’s starting to become my favourite dinner place in Amsterdam 💭

Stumbled upon this place after visiting the Anne Frank house at 10pm last night, the best sushi we went to in Amsterdam hands down - delicious sashimi and cocktails! If you’re in Amsterdam and love good Japanese this is your spot 🍣 P.s service was great!

A bit too expansive for the amount of food we got and I wasn’t amazed of the quality. The price / quality rate was below our expectations. The eel (paling) was too small, you can see it on the pictures below (compare it with the chopsticks). Honestly, I think there are better options around. The fried tofu was tasty, but 8 euro is just too expansive.

Food and atmosphere really good! The restaurant is very small, but the portions are big. Unfortunately, when I went there, they had one of the main ingredients missing (karaage), which I find it not excusable for a restaurant. But even so, I would go back.

Great Japanese restaurant! The food is delicious. We tried the aubergine, the karaage chicken and the tonkatsu which were all very good. They also have a nice selection of sake with a good deal for sake tasting, and very good cocktails as well! The place is cosy and we were able to get a table without reservation on a Friday evening, just perfect! The only negative point are the prices that are a bit high, especially for the sushis and sashimis. But definitely worth going!

Food is really good. We had the Kara-ge chicken, takoyaki, salmon tuna rolls and fried prawns. All of them are delicious. The drinks are a bit disappointing. I got the late night yuzu but the garnishes are not fresh at all :(. Also tables are too uncomfortably close. The table next to us almost nodded at our conversation ;). But I guess that’s common in Amsterdam :/.

I miss travelling to Asia but this place brings the authenticity of a Japanese bar to Amsterdam. I have been lots of in the last year and it never fails to disappoint.

One of my favourite places in Amsterdam. The food was amazing, really a lovely menu. We also had the sake tasting which was really cool to do. It really is a beautiful place from the inside as well, and the staff were incredibly friendly. I'm recommending this place to everyone!

Honestly- its just fine. During summer temperatures, its warm inside than outside. The dishes are meant to be shared but the menu is too limited for that. Because of that its just too expensive for what it offers.

We are staying locally and nipped in on a Friday evening following a friend's recommendation. We were AMAZED! Such a stylish small homely place, you're greeted by the great smells upon entry. The staff are lovely and friendly, without being too much. But it is the food that will leave you speechless - come try it.

Heerlijk gegeten bij hikage. De vis was heerlijk en alles was vers bereid. De bediening was vriendelijk en snel :)

Nieuw en prettig klein restaurant met 20 zitplaatsen aan tafels en enkele aan de bar. Zeer verzorgd en esthetisch en bovendien zo heerlijk. Hopelijk wordt het niet door toeristen "ontdekt" en dan onder de voet gelopen. Wij zijn blij zo'n perfecte gelegenheid te hebben ontdekt en zijn blij zo'n kwaliteitszaak in onze woonbuurt te kunnen bezoeken.

Great place to have a date !! Delicious food

We were disappointed at the customer service. We were promptly informed about that our table has a 2 hour-time limit. Unfortunately, after the 1st order, the service was extremely slow. So much that wr had to often go to the counter for ordering and assistance. This created an uncomfortable situation wich became our primary focus rather than enjoying the evening. Regarding the food, scallip tempura arrived oily moist and not crispy. We have used to saturate the excess oil. Overall, I cannot in good conscience recommend this Restaurant to anyone.

A wondrous variety of delectable Japanese dishes with authentic flavours. I loved the very light and yet deep fried tofu with dashi broth. Fabulous tempera. Lots of smaller dishes rather than one big main course, so a great place to go with friends to share different taste sensations. Also particularly good for vegetarian options. Don’t forget to try a Japanese cocktail… yuzu with a twist. Tucked away on a quiet street corner with no obvious signage, so if you walk past in the daytime, you’ll find yourself wondering if it is even a restaurant. Small and intimate, definitely worth a visit.
