Worst service and food experience tonight. Group of 6 treated terrible. 3 hour wait on food, so just left.

Really excellent sushi. I haven‘t had better sushi in Europe, not that I tried them all 😉 Perfect texture, temperature and of course, the taste! We had the chef‘s sushi platter plus a la carte, absoöutely perfect.

It's not the kind of show teppanyaki you're used to, but it was very tasty!

This was the best sushi I've had the pleasure of eating. Their in-house drink menu is comprehensive. Their staff is kind and extremely attentive. The "DATE" multi course meal was phenomenal including: marinated bluefin tuna; 3 pieces each of blue fin, yellow tail and salmon sashimi; lamb as the main course; and black sesame cheesecake with green tea ice cream and matcha with red bean paste and whipped cream. The entire experience was amazing. Cannot recommend enough!

Mr Hosokawa is an absolute legend

This was one of the best experiences in Amsterdam! The staff was very friendly and attentive... the chef was an artist! And the food was delicious!!!

Delicious food, good service, good quality fish (sashimi/sushi) and meat (mix grill). Matcha lava cake was super delicious!!! For that reason alone I would love to come back. Thanks to the owner I discovered a new red wine that is now one of my favorites. Owners are friendly and approachable, service was top notch.

At EUR 210 per person (excluding drinks), it’s certainly on the upper end—clearly a place for special occasions, business, or serious food lovers. But is it worth it? Surprisingly, yes. This isn’t just dinner; it’s an experience. From the moment you enter, the atmosphere is unmistakably Japanese. The hospitality is extraordinary—warm, polite, almost ceremoniously attentive. You’re not just a guest; you feel like you’ve been invited into a cultural ritual. Every movement, every detail, down to how the dishes are served, is done with quiet elegance and precision. Now, the food: flawless.The meat—especially the teppanyaki beef—was **like butter**, melting in your mouth with almost no effort. Every bite delivered texture, depth, and balance. It’s rare to eat something so refined, so completely free of flaws. You don’t just taste the dish, you feel it. Would I go back? Personally, no. Not because of the quality—it’s undeniably superb—but because it’s simply not my scene. I’m more comfortable in casual spaces, less ceremony, more spontaneity. That said, I’m very glad I went. It’s an unforgettable experience, and one that absolutely delivers what it promises: a true journey to Japan, right in the heart of Amsterdam. Rating: 9/10 Best for: Business dinners, special occasions, lovers of authentic Japanese cuisine. Not for: Casual eaters or those expecting a quick meal.

Can not say enough about this restaurant. It was recommend to me by a friend. If you are American, Do NOT think this is your typical “ hibachi” style, it will change your world about it. This was a dinning experience where it is a 5 course dinner where everything was explained as it was prepared for you. Very clean eating where minimal oil used and butter compared to American style. Best steak ever had and I’ve personally paid for some silly priced steaks. Service was amazing from walking in and the staff taking your coats and hanging them up and helping you put them on upon leaving. Very friendly and polite. If you’re looking for a fun , relaxing dinning experience this hits all of them !

What a great experience to eat here! It is truly a culinary highlight and is recommended to everyone. The food is delicious and fresh. Live cooking is the best experience you can have and you are served so courteously. We will definitely come back!

I have been to several Teppanyaki restaurants, and this was one of the more expensive. It is not worth the money. It felt a bit like a scam for people who never we t to that kind of restaurant before. Value for money: 1/5

The food is good and the service very friendly, but in my opinion not worth the price (€300 for 2 people) for this amount I really expected more. The starter and main course that was prepared on the teppanyaki plate was certainly good, but for me it lacked some finesse in terms of taste. the amuse and the entree (a small salad) was a kind of ready-made lif/lafje, something that is prepared in bulk and then served in small portions, did not feel like freshly prepared or something that had received much attention. Other details that did not make sense to me is that the towel used in advance to clean your hands was a citrus cloth wrapped in cellophane (I think that is something for a takeaway restaurant or something), for this price I expected a warm towel that smells like jasmine or something like that. The same story for the napkin, which was simply made of paper, for this price I expected a linen napkin, not disposable paper. The ambiance also left much to be desired, the interior of the restaurant is visibly outdated, the chairs and tables look as if they have been there since the 1980s, and the lighting, a bit too bright, and little decoration made the whole thing feel rather cold and did not really invite you to dine for longer. This restaurant really needs a refresh on all these fronts to justify the prices.

Really nice! Good food and good service. One small minus point, is that we needed to sit in a table with a group of people (which is totally fine) but we needed to wait long for our meal to be cooked. Not sure if the time or order can be improved but just something I think is good to mention.

Incredible and wonderful experience. We booked the restaurant in advanced to celebrate my birthday and it’s our first time ever experiencing Teppanyaki. We ordered the most expensive menu which served lobster, duck and wagyu beef. The chef cooked all dish in front us from appetizers until main. He cooked and served our food beautifully. We really enjoyed our time there. The chef always showed us the fresh ingredients before he started cooking. All dish is sooo good and tasty. The lobster is so rich and flavorful. The duck is so tender, no smell and so so so good. The wagyu beef dish is melted when you put in your mouth. We were worried at first that we might not full as there are not many dishes on our course. Apparently it took us quite a while to finish the last dish as we are already full. The dessert presentation is very beautiful. Usually I don’t like sesame ice cream but this one is so good. I can even finish the dessert even thought I’m so full. The staffs are really polite and service minded. The down side is the location, outside of restaurant are full of homeless and smell of urine. But once you got inside with the good services from the staff, you will totally forget about that.

Horribly expensive. Zero ambiance.

To start with, the quality of the food is really nothing to complain about, good quality and good service, also friendly waiters and chef. This is a bit at odds with the quality of the interior and beauty of the business, the interior is very outdated and everything is dirty, grates full of grease and dust and stains everywhere, toilets are also broken so time for a makeover.

This restaurant has changed a lot! Previously it was a top restaurant, but it is now disappointing

We booked a reservation for 5pm. When we arrived, they were just opening so the bartender sat us outside and we ordered some cocktails. This was probably thee best bartender I have ever experienced when it comes to making superb cocktails. They were out of this world. I forgot the bartender's name but he is from France, so if you ever go here, get the French bartender to make your cocktails, he is superb. Anyway, when we finally got seated and served everything was great. Service was great, every time they brought a dish, servers always explained what exactly was in it and even sometimes it's historical roots to Japan (which I really liked). Food itself was excellent, extremely full of different flavours and hitting different taste buds and palates....but most importantly everything was fresh, fresh, fresh. I highly recommend the lobster (not even a fan of lobster personally, but I was highly impressed by it and found it extremely tasty and delicious) and the Wagyu Beef (you won't find better anywhere else in Amsterdam), it was phenomenal and sublime. Only disappointment is that the portions for most items are extremely small and when spending over 550 Euros for two people you'd think you'd leave full and not being able to move but this isn't the case, so like everyone else has mentioned in the reviews, prices here are dear and steep. This is certainly not a type of place you would come on a regular basis unless 550+ Euros is peanuts to you. But I would still recommend it, especially if it's your last day/night in Amsterdam, definitely a nice way to end the trip.

Fantastic Japanese restaurant! The staff was very friendly and the service was excellent. Loved the Teppanyaki "show" and the chef was very polite and explained everything in detail. He also offered our daughter a Pikachu plate instead of the normal plates which was an extra twist.

I went to hosokawa for dinner(tappanyaki) with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday. It was a very pleasant experience and loved the food & ambiance. The preparation infront of us by the chef was nice to see. It is on expensive side but it was worth the experience.

Came for dinner with my partner whilst on holiday and had booked this venue for dinner due to the good reviews, safe to say we were not disappointed as the food and service were amazing - we did the tappanyaki experience and were both blown away with the food, the great service was simply an added bonus. Compliments to the tappanyaki chef as he made the experience one to remember, we will definitely be back

I think they are selling normall beef as a5 wagyu, check out the picture and tell me this is a 300 euro piece of a5 Kobe wagyu or just a normall piece of meat

Tasty Japanese in an uplifted environment. Offers teppanyaki, 3- and 4-course meal options, or a la carte. Sushi was well-made and super-fresh, prepared traditionally. A bit pricey -- most maki rolls on the menu for 22 eu. But I left feeling as if the quality of the food made it worth the price.

Amazing experience . I went there to celebrate my graduation with my family. The whole service team was extremely friendly , knowledgeable and nice. You can see that they are trained and know how to handle guests. Bravo to them . Especial thank you want to say to two Japanese waitresses that serve us. The food was also delicious with good portion . We were full on halfway already . The chef Sin , thank you so much for your hard work. The show was mesmerising. Hopefully, we will back soon. Recommend everyone to come here

I am usually not a big meat eater but this restaurant has definitely changed mind! Black Angus and Wagyu beef were delicious and prepared with so much skill and effort! Wow! Definitely recommend the live-cooking chef’s table experience. Personal interaction with the chef makes the dinner so much more unique and fun! Great wine and sake selection too. Very impressive!!

I celebrated my graduation here on Friday and everything was outstanding! Amazing food, considerate staff, and just the perfect atmosphere. They also made the effort to write a congratulatory message on my dessert plate. Will be back!

We went to have some sushi for dinner. The sushi was ok, nothing extraordinary. The price for the service was expensive and for a bottle of wine from Spain was 45€. The bottle did not had cork, for me that's not acceptable. I have to say that I do not have done the menu with the chef in front of you and it seems cool, but only for very high budgets.

Het eten was oké, lekker maar niet bijzonder. Bediening is slecht en onder de maat voor wat je betaald. Inrichting is verouderd en versleten. Prijs/ kwaliteit zeer uit balans, je betaald teveel voor de beleving die geboden wordt.

Not worth the price and service. Over $400 bill and waiters first day taking care of the tables. Wine menu doesn't have half of them in-stock.

Had an amazing dinner! We are from the US, we love a Japanese dinner, live show. Quality of food was amazing, a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. We have been in the UK for 3 weeks and it’s nice or have real food!! We came at 5:30 which was way early but we got a private show!! Worth it 😜

Een avondje met vrienden bij Teppanyaki Restaurant Hosokawa is iets anders dan gewoon uit eten. De nadruk en thema ligt écht op het eten. Het feit dat de maaltijden voor je neus vers worden bereid zegt al genoeg. Bijna twee uur lang verwondering over de kwaliteit van het eten, genieten van de zeer goede smaak ervan, bereid door kok Marcel, en natuurlijk ook de handigheid en professionaliteit van de kok zelf als toeschouwers gadeslaan was al een attractie op zich. Sensei Hosokawa is zeker geslaagd “onze” kok een top opleiding te geven want alles wat hij bereidde die avond smaakte uitstekend en gebalanceerd, vanaf de verse groente tot en met de Wagyu beef. Natuurlijk is het allemaal niet goedkoop, maar toch het geld waard om een lang gekoesterde droom te laten uitkomen de Ferrari van het vlees ooit eens te proeven. Dat was dus die vrijdag avond, op een culinair avontuur met vrienden. Met dank aan kok Marcel voor een geslaagde avondje UIT ETEN (met grote letters, dus) en misschien tot een andere gelegenheid weer.

Amazing experince. Have been there 3 times (teppenyaki) so far. Each one was memorable. Meat (especially wagyu!!), sashimi, grilled vegetable assortments, fried rice with black garlic sauce… All extremely delicious and with chefs cooking right in front of you makes it unreal.

A must see (and eat) experience

After experiencing multiple Japanese Teppenyaki restaurants in the world. Hosokawa was a great experience. I tried the new Hosokawa menu on the Teppenyaki with lobster and Japanese Wagyu as the main dish and the food was delicious, prepared with great precision of the Chef. And the wine collection was the bonus on top of this menu. Thank you again for this great food and experience.

Tout est excellent, des produits de qualité. Je conseille la présence du chef à la table qui est agréable à observer tout en respectant l'intimité des convives autour de la table.

Sehr gutes Teppanyaki, dass natürlich auch etwas kostet. Wer nicht ganz so hungrig ist, sollte nur 2 Speisen a la carte bestellen. Mir war das Menü zu viel. Würde ich nächstes Mal anders machen.
