The food was incredibly good, the wait time was reasonable, and the music fit the ambiance perfectly.

We had a delicious meal here. The dog was also welcome. Real pub atmosphere.

We dined with four people. The mustard soup was tasty, but we didn't find it mustardy, and the pork oyster was disproportionately priced at €34.75. Otherwise, we had a wonderful evening, the desserts were delicious, and the service was excellent.

Unfortunately the service was subpar. It took 10 to 15 minutes for the drinks to be consumed We then looked for our food from the online menu. We then expressed our request for food when the drinks were delivered, which took almost half an hour. It was very empty in the restaurant, but the service took ages for the drinks to arrive and also messed things up. Mind you, the store was almost empty. The meal took a moment, which was perfectly fine. Unfortunately, the empty drink bottles were simply ignored. Even when we put them on the counter ourselves, they were still there when we left. About the food itself: The fish with the tartar sauce was delicious. My husband found the ribs extremely sweet. The burgers were sparingly topped with meat. The fries were plentiful.

The food was good. I had the spareribs myself. Just missed a little more sauce. The atmosphere was also good in the restaurant. The only downside was that we only received our food 1.5 hours after sitting down. I personally think that's too long.

Ordered two sandwiches on the terrace of this restaurant. Brie sandwich and a Turfsteker sandwich. Both were tasty, but not special.

Delicious food (chef's special). Lots of small dishes that fit together perfectly. Nice place, good service, despite being very busy (25+ orders of the special...). Highly recommended!

We had the fish and chips and the beef stew. The latter was very tasty. The rest was bland with little flavor. Plus the oil was on the plate. The atmosphere is not very pleasant en masse. Staff are friendly. At the moment they are building opposite it, which of course does not help to increase the atmosphere. Dogs were allowed to come along and the terrace is covered, so if it rains you are still dry. No non-smoking area outside.

Good food, good atmosphere. Nice location. Ordered burgers with cocktail sauce (listed on the menu). However, I was running out of barbecue sauce. This was reported when asked if everything was satisfactory, but there was no response. Not a huge drama, but not what is on the menu. That's the only downside. Definitely recommended. Recommended: fried pickles!

Nice service, tasty food, but it took 45 minutes before our starter arrived. And you have to pay 4.50 for extra fries with your main course. Ridiculous.

We were on holiday near Westerbork and during our last evening we decided to have a bite to eat at the Turfsteker because of the interesting menu. As a starter I had a mustard soup and for once it really tasted like mustard and my group went for the potato nachos; wafer thin, perfectly cooked with delicious cheese and sauce. Then the main courses were certainly not disappointing; Guinness stew, pokebowl and a Boxty. All three dishes fantastic! Definitely recommended for a bite or when on the go!

Delicious food, various dishes, tasty specialty beers, nice wine list. Recommended Borker schnitzel! Also many vegetarian dishes, such as Shepherds Pie. Various dishes can be ordered as a senior menu. Cozy interior and a beautiful new terrace at the front. Ample parking for bicycle and car at the rear. Nice and friendly service. Highly recommended, suitable for 2 people or a larger group. Dog friendly and located in the pleasant Drenthe Westerbork.

Update 17-06-'24: Today the Netherlands beat Poland! The food was delicious again. I had the tuna as a starter, then the spare ribs and the Dublinner. Our table companions also enjoyed it again. Service top again! It sounds corny, but it's still highly recommended. It was the evening that the Netherlands lost to Denmark. We had no problem with that. The Guinness, the Fried pickles, Guinness Stew and Dublinner, everything was delicious and highly recommended, but my table companions had other dishes and they were also delicious. If you are going to eat here, I wish you strength in making a choice, it will not be easy. 😋 The friendly service is also top notch. In short, definitely eat here once. Went again last night and everything was delicious again. The service and kitchen were also top notch and it was good to see that the catering industry is doing well again after the pandemic. In short, make a reservation and enjoy.

Tonight we wanted to go out for a nice dinner because of our wedding day, June 14 and we have been married for 47 years, and we tried to make a reservation.... on the third attempt we were able to go to the Turfsteker in Westerbork! And what a delicious meal we had. Guinness stew Irish beef stewed in Guinness with onion, mushroom, carrot, potato. And a delicious flat sorbet😉 with fresh fruit. In one word.....Great! Glad we could go to the Turfsteker! Worth staying there!

Nice restaurant, service is friendly and attentive. Starters were good. The Irish stew was good, but a small quantity (small container) without attachments, which you had to order separately. Then the price-quality ratio becomes somewhat less. The potatoes from the oven were a bit floury and not crispy, as I had expected. And for the bowl there was an additional 6.50. Well worth the price!!!

As a food critic I can definitely recommend this restaurant. As a starter, a surprise board from the chef for 2 people consisting of meat, chicken and fish snacks (fresh and well-seasoned). Main course Irish Stew (beef stew very well cooked and nicely flavoured). Dessert, coffee peat cutter with liqueur filled chocolates. And the second dessert is Dubbeliner (hazelnut parfait on crumb meringue with whipped cream). I can really recommend everyone to eat here. As a reviewer, I give this restaurant a well-deserved 8.5.

What a nice place! Great service and great food. We were in hurry so enjoyed 3 courses, each of which were presented in a nice way. We enjoy places with great atmosphere, more social than super fancy, this was definitely a place we'd return to.

What a nice place, on a spontaneous Sunday afternoon there is plenty of fun in the pub, the food in the restaurant is tasty and the service was attentive, friendly and prompt. Also a nice finish location for car clubs after a tour with ample parking.

Wij hebben heerlijk gegeten. Maaltijden zagen er top uit. Het personeel was heel vriendelijk. Het was super gezellig, en ik spreek namens ons alle 12, het was heel goed verzorgd. We hebben voor alles een 8 gegeven wat best hoger kon zijn. Mijn complimenten.

Just entered it, as we are on holiday nearby. It looks nice, but there was no one in the bar area besides us, this also depended on the time of day - it was Saturday afternoon around half past four. The room next door was having a birthday party going on and that sounded fun. The atmosphere is like a brown pub in terms of design. A games table can also provide a lot of fun with people-annoy-you-not and checkerboard..

Wat een heerlijke, sfeervolle plek om te mogen zijn! We hebben gisteren een prachtige vrijwilligersdag mogen organiseren in de Turfsteker! Zelden hebben we zoveel mogelijkheden, flexibiliteit en gezelligheid ervaren! Al het personeel was enorm vriendelijk, wilde alles doen en dacht mee. Onze vrijwilligers zijn dankzij de Turfsteker ontzettend verwend en wij als organisatie hebben dat als heel positief en relaxed ervaren! Wij komen zeker terug, dus enorm veel dank!

Zat in de conference zaal dus geen gebruik gemaakt van het eten.

Voor mij staat dit restaurant met stip op nummer 1 qua de qualiteit van eten in Westerbork. Wat hebben wij lekker gegeten! Een mooie uitgebreide menukaart en vriendelijk personeel. De eigenaar zelf kwam uitleggen wat we hadden aangezien wij voor een verassingsmenu hadden gekozen. Alleen dat is al een compliment waard dat de eigenaar volop meewerkt in de bediening, dat zie je niet vaak meer tegenwoordig. Het enige nadeel is dat we tegenover de deur zaten en dus laat hadden van de tocht. Voor de rest was echt alles super! Tot de volgende keer!

Wij hebben hier genoten van de perfecte en vriendelijke bediening en vooral van het fantastische diner. Wat ons betreft verdient dit restaurant een michelin ster. Zeker een aanrader

Erg leuk restaurant, heerlijk gegeten en top bediening. Strak geregeld allemaal ondanks dat het best druk was.

De Turfsteker is een sfeervol restaurant. Wel wat aan de koude kant ondanks dat de open haard aanstond. Gekozen voor gerechten van de pubfood kaart. De snitzel met champignonroomsaus en de potluck diner. Deze laatste was erg lekker. De snitzel was niet heel bijzonder.

Mooie locatie, goede bediening. Guinness stoof helaas véél te zout. Vlees was mals, mooie structuur, waarom dan zoveel zout.

Super service. Personeel is erg vriendelijk en adequaat. Ondanks de drukte vlotte service.

Met een groep van 30 collega's hier een jubileum gevierd. In aanloop naar dit feest aangenaam contact gehad met de eigenaar over de wensen van ruimte, eten en planning qua tijd en dag. Tijdens het feest een lopend buffet genoten, welke ronduit super was! Bediening was enthousiast en vriendelijk en kwam precies met de juiste interval vragen of er nog wat te drinken moest komen. Ook voor dieetwensen (welke van tevoren waren gemeld) werd goed op ingespeeld. Sfeervolle ruimte, waarin wij ons prima hebben vermaakt. Zeker een aanrader voor een feestje! Gezien de kwaliteit van eten ook heel goed te bezoeken met een kleiner gezelschap! Mij zien ze zeker nog een keer terug!
