Indonesisch Restaurant Senayan in Wijk 28 Centrum

I went here with a group of friends, and unfortunately, I regret it. If you order something, it arrives 40 minutes late, no joke, and meanwhile, they keep making you order drinks. They also forgot my food, and I had to wait another fifteen minutes for it while everyone else's food arrived at the same time. As an apology, I was given extra ready-made, tasteless rice, and in the end, it was full of rice and a piece of meat. I thought Indonesian cuisine was full of spices, but apparently not here. The food barely had any spices at all!

Delicious food, good service, good place to eat

The restaurant’s reservations policy is completely disregarded. After making a reservation, we waited for over 30 minutes next to the toilet. The restaurant was overcrowded in a very small space. Unfortunately, we couldn’t comment on the food as we left.

We had a delicious meal. We had the Rijstafel (meat rice table) for two. It was more than enough, and we finished it all. The result: we left with full bellies, looking back on a wonderful taste sensation.

We always go here for Indonesian Rendang, eggplant, satay and various other dishes. Best on week days in the afternoon when you can easily get a place.

We were in The Hague for a weekend and wanted to try some Indonesian food. We chose Istana based on reviews, and it was the right choice! It was delicious, a bit busy (but a good sign), and the service was pleasant. The price was very reasonable.

The food was delicious, but the homemade drinks were disappointing. The portions are also getting smaller and smaller. Unfortunately, what you read in the reviews about small portions is true. The price is not commensurate with the food, and unfortunately, this will be our last time here.

I thought the food itself tasted good. But it was so small. And then you have to pay extra for literally everything. They ask, "Do you want pickled cucumber?" You get a mini container with four pieces. Then you say, "Do you want prawn crackers?" but you get charged for everything. Sorry, but way too expensive. Even when I asked for a container, I had to pay for it. So no, I won't be back. It cost almost 100 euros. And I don't think that's worth it. I'd rather spend a day cooking at home. It tastes even better that way.

Exceptionally delicious, mostly small Indonesian dishes. Beautifully presented. We thoroughly enjoyed them.

The food was small portions; one dish isn't enough for a big eater. The vegetables in my dish were hard and not cooked properly. The desserts were also small: ice cream with fried banana for €8.50. It was two small pieces of banana and one mini scoop of ice cream with a dollop of whipped cream. The flavors were good, but few and expensive. I won't be going back.

Nice Indonesian restaurant. Can be very busy; bringing some patience helps. We enjoyed the set menu with around 16 small dishes; very tasty!

The food was truly delicious. We had the meat/fish rice table. The service was also super friendly. The only downside was the acoustics; it was very crowded, so we had to speak loudly to hear each other.

Ordered online, received a well packed and tasty meals. We ordered sate kip, bebek asam manis and daging semoer, all very good. Especially daging semoer, beef was very tender and spiceful.

The three of us enjoyed an Indonesian rice table. Service was quick. The food quality was more than adequate.

Dined in Oct 2025. Lunch for 2. Ordered lamb shank, sea bass, yellow ginger rice and drinks. Lamb was good, soft and fall off the bones. Sea bass was so so. We were the only one in the restaurant having food. Relaxing and enjoyable meal.

Yesterday, September 26th, we booked a last-minute table without a reservation. Despite it being full, we were given the option of two spots at the bar. It was a great spot where we had a good insight into the dynamic young Istana team. Everything went smoothly, without any discrepancies. Friendly and extremely hospitable, which is worth mentioning. The price-quality ratio is excellent. One criticism regarding the pickup by the couriers: they would adjust the routing by bringing the bags to the front of the restaurant on demand, leaving the aisle clear for service. Otherwise, highly recommended.

This is a good place where you can get an absolute great meal! They have great Indonesian food. Everything is fresh and they really try to give an authentic feel. The restaurant itself is really modern. The service is good and everyone working there is very friendly. I would definitely recommend this one for a special evening because it is not cheap but still very good!

We had a really good experience. The food was delicious!

We had another delicious rijsttafel (rice table) at Istana tonight. Again, because Miriam and I go there often and are completely satisfied. What struck us this time was how professionally and very relaxed the two of them managed to serve a seemingly full restaurant to everyone's satisfaction. We subtly asked for their names, so our compliments to Milou and Noek! We hope to see you again!

The food was unfortunately only ok. The starters, especially the samosas, were great, but the main courses left something to be desired. The duck was crispy but very fatty and in a not very good sauce. You have to pay extra for rice with it. When we asked the waitress if she would recommend rice with the omelet for one person at the table, she said yes, which made no sense at all since the omelet was very dry and didn't improve with dry rice. Which made us wonder if she was just doing it to sell us more. Otherwise, the place is extremely clean and nicely decorated, but they charge too much for the dishes and service they offer.

Clearly food catered for white people. It has some traces of the Indonesian kitchen but so dumbed down and overpriced for the portion sizes that i would highly discourage going here at all. Chinatown in general has degraded in quality over the years. As an Indo myself that has grown up with my grandparents' food, find indonesian places outside the city center.

Staff is extraordinary attentive and fast - unbelievable how they managed to serve everyone in a packed restaurant. We never had to wave extensively like airport ground crew - like we needed to do at other places in The Hague. Staff at Istana always had an eye out and checked in with us; without being intrusive. The food was TO DIE FOR! We had the rijstafel (veggie version, and meat version for our friends), and everything was super delicious. The G&T were superb as well. Highly recommend this place!

We found the dishes, the service and the wines by the glass very good.

The location and the place is decorated nicely and the restaurant is very clean and the service was attentive. The food was a bit pricey and I was disappointed by the food quality. For me, the taste was general asian style.

I've eaten here several times and I always try new things. It never disappoints; the food is always delicious! Last time, I was here with two friends, and they loved it too. The friendly service is also a plus.

Super delicious Indonesian food! & wonderful wine.

Got seated in the hallway where everyone annoyed us. The server took forever to tend to us and took a call in the middle of taking our order. The portion sizes are so small for the price while the taste was not authentic. When we wanted to pay nobody came to our table even though we sat right next to the register. When we got up and stood at the register taking away space for other guests in the hallway we got the wrong bill which was three times as much as we ordered.

If you want to experience traditional and authentic Indonesian cuisine, you should definitely try the Fish & Meat to Share menu! Delicious, delicious, delicious!! We'll be back!

Yesterday (July 15, 2025) I had dinner with a friend (with a reservation) and it was truly fantastic! The food felt like coming home because the flavors were just like the ones my father and grandfather always made at home, especially the Soto Ayam. The waitresses were incredibly friendly and thoughtful, and the tip was more than earned. We finished off with Cendol and Kopi Tubruk... enak! We'll definitely be back. Enjoy!

This was the first time we were here, certainly not a disappointment, good taste, large pieces of meat instead of the small pieces you normally get in an Indonesian restaurant and goat satay kambing yippie. All in all definitely worth going back

On my way home I got a meal at Istana. Not cheap by the way, without rice a total of €27. I'm going to heat everything up and eat it right away. Then I'll give a final verdict. Babi Pangang with atjar and sauce. Very tasty roasted and crispy meat, a bit small portion. Daging Rendang. Very tasty, but from now on remove the large herbs, a bit small portion for that money. Last time I had no less than 6 cardamom pods in my rames menu and they taste awful when you bite into them! Better be careful that everything is out!

We had a delicious authentic Indonesian meal at Istana. The satay and rendang were especially great – full of flavour and exactly as you would hope. We were less enthusiastic about the peanut sauce: it was a bit on the coarse side and had an overpowering peanut flavour that threw the whole thing off balance. Also pay close attention to the bill; ours had wine from the neighbours on it. It can happen, but it is still good to check. All in all: not everything was perfect, but the food was definitely worth it. Definitely worth a visit for lovers of Indonesian cuisine.

Exceptional Indonesian restaurant, the service was attentive and quick, with the meal of a starter platter and prawn fried rice tasting very nice. The prawn dish had a spicy sambal kick with a good serving of prawn and a fried egg on top of the fried rice. I would highly recommend this establishment.

Overall, the food was average in taste—not bad, but not particularly impressive either. The service was fast, and even though we didn’t have a reservation, they managed to find us a spot at the bar. The atmosphere was nice. We ordered "RIJSTTAFEL VIS & VLEES", which offered a good variety of dishes. One small issue: the baked banana dessert(Pisang Goreng) was served along with the main dishes, so we ate it during the meal, thinking it was part of the dishes! My friend waited until the end, but by then it was cold. Also, in one of the dish wrapped in banana leaves, just a note—the leaves are not meant to be eaten:) All in all, it was an enjoyable experience.

First time eating Indonesian food! I loved it! I had the mixed Sate', the peanut sauce was delightful. I recommend trying the baked bananas.

The food was really delicious and the service very good. If you want to enjoy traditional Indian dishes then you should definitely go here.

We came without a reservation and were seated at the bar by the friendly staff, which was quite entertaining because we could watch the kitchen and service staff. The food was lovingly prepared and very tasty. Absolute recommendation but the urgent advice is to make a reservation in the evening!

We ate pretty much "everything" on the menu with our group of five and I was amazed by the tastiness if everything. Great restaurant, totally recomended!

What struck me first is the cozy, cramped layout. Like a small warung in Bali, only with luxurious furnishings and interior. Friendly staff, sometimes it looks a bit chaotic, but everything gets sorted out in the end. You don't sit far from the other guests. The dishes taste good, but are not recognizable from my Indo heritage. The menu also features modern Indian. Some dishes are a bit sweeter or give a taste twist that pleasantly surprises you. For example: soto ayam does not contain sugar but a kind of sweet corn. Green Speku is softer and sweeter than expected. Even eating here is worth it. I was really craving Iriscoffee but this ultimately wasn't a good choice. The ratio of coffee and whiskey in the Iriscoffee was not in balance. I tasted more Wiskey and weak coffee.

Really delicious food!! It was my first time with Indonesian food and it was amazing. All the waitress were very helpful and very kind, they suggested me and all-in-one complete meal, rates 10/10 for real. I'll come again here for sure in the future

The food was excellent even though portions were small. And unfortunately, the service didn’t match the quality of the meal. A middle-aged waitress prioritized seating white guests ahead of us, leaving me waiting at the bar for nearly 15 minutes. Our table was then given away to two Dutch men, and we were eventually seated at the back of the restaurant, despite several empty tables being available.

Food was pretty good although a lot of fried stuff. Avoid the samosas, very small - mostly fried dough with little filling. Waitress was clearly sick/coughing. Shouldn't have been serving food.

Food was tasty and the plate arrangement was great. We had two different woks and both were tasty. A bit overpriced, but looks somehow common nowadays. The waiter attitude was a bit negative at the end when we paid and we asked for the fiscal receipt and she wasn’t able to provide it.

The rice table was not good. Rendang beef was hard, another meat full of wobbly pieces of fat, cabbage vegetables hard in far too liquid coconut sauce, the gadogado also average at best, everything lukewarm. We sat by the window, where it was drafty and the guests constantly coming in and out caused further stress.

Wouldnt come here again. The service was very bad. There are many waitors but they are not well organized and it was chaotic. Most of the time we needed to wait very long for our drinks and needed to ask twice. The food was mediocre at best,too. We were very thirsty and felt sick afterwards.

During my time in The Hague I often dined here, both spontaneously on a weekday evening and to celebrate birthdays. Their rice table is delicious, especially the ayam cashew and the pisang goreng. Their sandwiches at lunch are also worth a visit. And that comes from an Indo. In short, highly recommended!

You can enjoy excellent vegetarian food here. I had a Rames Surayan Vegetarian with extra noodles and pisang goreng. A mix of small dishes so you can vary. Real flavors, freshly prepared. You can taste the quality here. The attention. It was also nice that the soft drink (ginger beer) was without aspartame. I have already visited a number of Indonesian restaurants in this city, but I thought this was by far the best.

Average Indonesian food. Not a good value for the money. The beef rendang tasted more like beef stew rather than rendang curry.

We had the rice table with meat and fish and everything was delicious, but a bit too much food for 2 people (and we like eating a lot). Not a complaint at all, only a warning. ;) We didn’t have a reservation as it was a last minute trip to the city, so we had to take a seat at the bar, which was a bit uncomfortable due to the height of the stools vs the bar, and it was tight, with people squeezing behind us. At least we had a nice view of the kitchen, seeing everything being prepared! Do reserve if you can - we will, if we get a chance to go back!

Too much adapted to Dutch taste. We had to pay for some regular sambal. And besides my tjendol I wanted a glass of tap water. I received a spa blue. Pffff

What a treat! Menu difficult to understand but with the help of the very kind and patient waitresses, we finally managed to choose. After a long hesitation, the occasion creating the thief, we chose the complete menu which introduced us to unforgettable flavors, without making our bellies explode. It was simply perfect.
