Simply amazing. One of the best meals I had while in the Netherlands. I like spicy food, but the food here isn't for those with a low tolerance for spice. The taste is simply superb. I highly recommend it to everyone.

The food wasn't bad but it wasn't really flavorful... bland, I think the cook forgot the salt I have to say I went to Waroeng Padang last time and the taste is better there

We arrive at an almost empty restaurant, 3 other tables with food. After we sit down, the restaurant fills up quickly. We place our order after we were helped to read the menu. We specify that we do not want spicy food. We are served our drink and they charge for water. 1.5dl. It is also not possible to ask for a loss. We wait a solid 45min before the first course is served, a total of 69min from when we sat down. Our food is served one by one and the last option of food comes almost 20min after the first was served. And the food was so spicy that the nose started to run and the lips burned. At a price of 100€ it has not been worth your time or money. There are many other options nearby.

The food was exquisite! A bit on the pricey side compared to the small portions, though. The waitress (I'm guessing the owner) was incredibly stressed out, which made her extremely unfriendly and even rude.

The food is fine. Not spectacular, but our expectations were perhaps a bit high after all those 5-star reviews. It is cramped, loud, and very busy on our evening. The staff did what they could, but personal attention wasn't really possible because of this. Still, I think we would eat here again next time.

Went there on a weekday. The noise level was outrageous, I had to keep shouting to my friend. The place is so packed you feel you cannot move or breathe. Food is OK, not worth what you pay though. Would not be back, didn’t find anything remarkable and it’s not a restaurant made to make the customer have an amazing experience.

Yesterday we ordered a rijsttafel for two people, you get so many different dishes. It was very tasty 😋 in other words, highly recommended. We will be coming here more often!

I made a reservation online yesterday. It was clearly stated that you only receive a confirmation once the reservation has been accepted. I called this afternoon and we were able to arrive an hour earlier, which was arranged very nicely. Once inside, we were greeted warmly and shown to our table. From the outside, the restaurant might not immediately stand out, but inside the atmosphere is cozy and warm. We opted for shared dining and everything was truly delicious: well-seasoned, fresh, and prepared with care. The gin tonic was also top-notch. When we arrived at five o'clock it was still quiet, but during the evening the restaurant filled up almost completely. That really says it all. Definitely a place I will be returning to soon!

The food was delicious, but they tried to convince us to pay in cash instead of by card, which seemed a bit odd. Tap water costs €1 per glass, and they also charge extra for hot sauce. They don't warn you about these extra charges.

The food here is outstanding. We were lucky to get a table. One dish and rice are enough for one person. I would definitely choose this restaurant if I wanted to eat Indonesian food.

The food is tasty, the portions are small, and it wasn't busy, but everything took a very long time. For example, 25 minutes for 2 colas. Also, it was sometimes difficult to understand each other well due to the noisy sound.

Friendly service, fantastic food, clean and tidy. We sat at tables opposite the bar where 3 XL men were sitting on the bar stools. So there was very little room for people walking past, with the result that coats and bags swept across our table. Very inconvenient, and a beer fell over.

We have really been to quite a few Indonesian restaurants all over the country, but this one is in our top 3! The rijsttafel is highly recommended. More than enough food, and every single dish has enchanting flavors! The staff is incredibly friendly! Lovely atmosphere; it was very busy, but you hardly noticed it from your own table!

It's strange that the staff doesn't speak Indonesian

We both had the Rames menu, one meat and one vegetarian. Both were simply delicious. Everything was wonderfully fresh, a lovely balance between velvety tender and crunchy, and soft and spicy. A perfect meal, a nice bottle of Riesling, and very reasonable prices for what you get. Attentive, hospitable service... Definitely worth repeating.

We had a wonderful meal here. It's a lovely, cozy restaurant where the staff goes above and beyond to provide you with everything you need. Very friendly, attentive, and we thoroughly enjoyed the rijsttafel (rice table). We'll definitely be back when we're in The Hague!

Good food and friendly staff, but it's definitely not Indonesian food. It's more Chinese with a Thai twist and a nod to Indonesian cuisine. We were expecting real Indonesian food, hence the lower rating.

Tofu/tohoe sate and the tohoe cashew are probably both vegan. The sate dish tasted ok, the cashew one was sweet and a bit tastier.

Ate here for the first time during a weekend getaway. We made a reservation based on the good reviews, and rightly so. It was packed on a Saturday night, but everything went smoothly. The food was delicious. The staff were very friendly and immediately brought me a new drink when they accidentally knocked over my bottle. Highly recommended!

We were visiting Indonesia and really wanted to try an Indonesian restaurant. We stumbled upon this one by chance, as another had closed. I have to say that was probably a stroke of luck. We had a total of four different dishes, all of which tasted excellent. The service was also friendly and organized, even though the lady managed everything on her own (it wasn't very busy). I don't have anything to compare it to, but I can definitely recommend this one.

We've eaten here many times, and it was delicious. Yesterday was a disappointing experience. After an hour, we were asked to get up and drink coffee at a cramped standing table across from the restroom because people were waiting. We had a reservation. Absolutely awful. The soto was watery. We left it, but it was still on the bill. Guleh was delicious. A plus. The satay kambing was expensive and not very inspiringly marinated. I definitely won't be going here again on a Saturday night. You can try to maximize your turnover, but that will cost you loyal customers.

It's a wonderful experience at the restaurant. The food was fantastic. We had an Indonesian rice table, and everything we tried was delicious. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Even though we live in Oss, North Brabant, if we ever go back to The Hague, we'll definitely go again.

I went here with a group of friends, and unfortunately, I regret it. If you order something, it arrives 40 minutes late, no joke, and meanwhile, they keep making you order drinks. They also forgot my food, and I had to wait another fifteen minutes for it while everyone else's food arrived at the same time. As an apology, I was given extra ready-made, tasteless rice, and in the end, it was full of rice and a piece of meat. I thought Indonesian cuisine was full of spices, but apparently not here. The food barely had any spices at all!

The restaurant’s reservations policy is completely disregarded. After making a reservation, we waited for over 30 minutes next to the toilet. The restaurant was overcrowded in a very small space. Unfortunately, we couldn’t comment on the food as we left.

We had a delicious meal. We had the meat rijsttafel for two people. More than enough, and everything was finished. The result: we left with full bellies, looking back fondly on a wonderful taste sensation.

We always go here for Indonesian Rendang, eggplant, satay and various other dishes. Best on week days in the afternoon when you can easily get a place.

We were in The Hague for a weekend and wanted to try some Indonesian food. We chose Istana based on reviews, and it was the right choice! It was delicious, a bit busy (but a good sign), and the service was pleasant. The price was very reasonable.

The food was delicious, but the homemade drinks were disappointing. The portions are also getting smaller and smaller. Unfortunately, what you read in the reviews about small portions is true. The price is not commensurate with the food, and unfortunately, this will be our last time here.

I thought the food itself tasted good. But there were so few portions. And then you have to pay extra for literally everything. They ask if you want pickled cucumber. You get a mini bowl with 4 pieces. Then you hear if you want prawn crackers, but everything gets charged. Sorry, but way too expensive. Even when I asked for a bowl, I had to pay for it. So no, I won't be coming back. It cost almost 100 euros. And I don't think that small amount is worth it. I'd rather spend a day in the kitchen at home myself. It tastes even better then.

The food was small portions; one dish isn't enough for a big eater. The vegetables in my dish were hard and not cooked properly. The desserts were also small: ice cream with fried banana for €8.50. It was two small pieces of banana and one mini scoop of ice cream with a dollop of whipped cream. The flavors were good, but few and expensive. I won't be going back.

The food was truly delicious. We had the meat/fish rice table. The service was also super friendly. The only downside was the acoustics; it was very crowded, so we had to speak loudly to hear each other.

Ordered online, received a well packed and tasty meals. We ordered sate kip, bebek asam manis and daging semoer, all very good. Especially daging semoer, beef was very tender and spiceful.

Dined in Oct 2025. Lunch for 2. Ordered lamb shank, sea bass, yellow ginger rice and drinks. Lamb was good, soft and fall off the bones. Sea bass was so so. We were the only one in the restaurant having food. Relaxing and enjoyable meal.

Yesterday, September 26th, we booked a last-minute table without a reservation. Despite it being full, we were given the option of two spots at the bar. It was a great spot where we had a good insight into the dynamic young Istana team. Everything went smoothly, without any discrepancies. Friendly and extremely hospitable, which is worth mentioning. The price-quality ratio is excellent. One criticism regarding the pickup by the couriers: they would adjust the routing by bringing the bags to the front of the restaurant on demand, leaving the aisle clear for service. Otherwise, highly recommended.

This is a good place where you can get an absolute great meal! They have great Indonesian food. Everything is fresh and they really try to give an authentic feel. The restaurant itself is really modern. The service is good and everyone working there is very friendly. I would definitely recommend this one for a special evening because it is not cheap but still very good!

We had another delicious rijsttafel (rice table) at Istana tonight. Again, because Miriam and I go there often and are completely satisfied. What struck us this time was how professionally and very relaxed the two of them managed to serve a seemingly full restaurant to everyone's satisfaction. The food was unfortunately only ok. The starters, especially the samosas, were great, but the main courses left something to be desired. The duck was crispy but very fatty and in a not very good sauce. You have to pay extra for rice with it. When we asked the waitress if she would recommend rice with the omelet for one person at the table, she said yes, which made no sense at all since the omelet was very dry and didn't improve with dry rice. Which made us wonder if she was just doing it to sell us more. Otherwise, the place is extremely clean and nicely decorated, but they charge too much for the dishes and service they offer.

Clearly food catered for white people. It has some traces of the Indonesian kitchen but so dumbed down and overpriced for the portion sizes that i would highly discourage going here at all. Chinatown in general has degraded in quality over the years. As an Indo myself that has grown up with my grandparents' food, find indonesian places outside the city center.

Staff is extraordinary attentive and fast - unbelievable how they managed to serve everyone in a packed restaurant. We never had to wave extensively like airport ground crew - like we needed to do at other places in The Hague. Staff at Istana always had an eye out and checked in with us; without being intrusive. The food was TO DIE FOR! We had the rijstafel (veggie version, and meat version for our friends), and everything was super delicious. The G&T were superb as well. Highly recommend this place!

The location and the place is decorated nicely and the restaurant is very clean and the service was attentive. The food was a bit pricey and I was disappointed by the food quality. For me, the taste was general asian style.

I've eaten here several times and I always try new things. It never disappoints; the food is always delicious! Last time, I was here with two friends, and they loved it too. The friendly service is also a plus.

Got seated in the hallway where everyone annoyed us. The server took forever to tend to us and took a call in the middle of taking our order. The portion sizes are so small for the price while the taste was not authentic. When we wanted to pay nobody came to our table even though we sat right next to the register. When we got up and stood at the register taking away space for other guests in the hallway we got the wrong bill which was three times as much as we ordered.

If you want to experience traditional and authentic Indonesian cuisine, you should definitely try the Fish & Meat to Share menu! Delicious, delicious, delicious!! We'll be back!

Yesterday (July 15, 2025) I had dinner with a friend (with a reservation) and it was truly fantastic! The food felt like coming home because the flavors were just like the ones my father and grandfather always made at home, especially the Soto Ayam. The waitresses were incredibly friendly and thoughtful, and the tip was more than earned. We finished off with Cendol and Kopi Tubruk... enak! We'll definitely be back. Enjoy!

This was the first time we were here, certainly not a disappointment, good taste, large pieces of meat instead of the small pieces you normally get in an Indonesian restaurant and goat satay kambing yippie. All in all definitely worth going back

On my way home I got a meal at Istana. Not cheap by the way, without rice a total of €27. I'm going to heat everything up and eat it right away. Then I'll give a final verdict. Babi Pangang with atjar and sauce. Very tasty roasted and crispy meat, a bit small portion. Daging Rendang. Very tasty, but from now on remove the large herbs, a bit small portion for that money. Last time I had no less than 6 cardamom pods in my rames menu and they taste awful when you bite into them! Better be careful that everything is out!

We had a delicious authentic Indonesian meal at Istana. The satay and rendang were especially great – full of flavour and exactly as you would hope. We were less enthusiastic about the peanut sauce: it was a bit on the coarse side and had an overpowering peanut flavour that threw the whole thing off balance. Also pay close attention to the bill; ours had wine from the neighbours on it. It can happen, but it is still good to check. All in all: not everything was perfect, but the food was definitely worth it. Definitely worth a visit for lovers of Indonesian cuisine.
