Isola Bella in Wijk 00 Assen centrum

Without a doubt the best Italian restaurant in Assen. Very impressed by the beautiful renovation. The food was delicious and the service really gets it! Highly recommended (don't go to the neighbors!). One tip: the limoncello could be a bit colder!

We went out for dinner on Sunday evening with the four of us. There was nothing wrong with the food, but the atmosphere was mediocre and the service was downright terrible. The young lady had absolutely no desire to work and it showed. What a grumpy old woman. This was a one-time thing and never again.

We ate here again for the first time since the renovation, with a group of 7. Pleasantly surprised! We sat upstairs; the space has become beautifully open and atmospheric. The food was good; we had pizza, scaloppa, and pasta in the group. The pizza was well-topped (a smaller version is still available), and the meat was nice and tender. Everything was very tasty. We were able to sit quietly without rushing. So, very satisfied!

Had dinner at Isolabella tonight, good service and tasty food!

In terms of decor, it is a nice restaurant. The menu is decent, and the dishes look good on paper. For starters, we had the sharing platter. It was good, nicely filled, and tasted fine. The Ricola was a bit wilted, though, but otherwise fine. The main course was white fish (1.5 pieces of cheap pangasius fillet) with a large scoop of tasteless tomato sauce with a few tomatoes in it. And a small bowl of raw vegetables on the side. That was downright bad and far too expensive. Something like 25 euros. You can buy twice as much fish for 5 euros in the store. Another main course was Rigatoni pasta with a thick, dry sauce. You are full after half a plate. The taste also left much to be desired. All in all, I do not recommend this restaurant.

We had made a reservation and were only allowed to sit outside (while it was raining)... eventually, they arranged for us to sit inside. The food took a long time to arrive, and when we asked where our bread was beforehand, they knew nothing about it, and we finally received our bread (after waiting for an hour and a half). (Which turned out to be the best part of the whole evening). When we received our dishes, we were quickly very disappointed. The flavors of the dishes were truly terrible. Honestly, I have never eaten anything with such reluctance as this! And I also tasted the dishes of the rest of the group, and it was genuinely all very bad. Everyone ate their dishes with great reluctance, and some didn't even finish them all. Furthermore, the dishes were already very lukewarm on the outside, while the insides were very hot; it seems as if they have been sitting there for a long time or have been reheated. When settling the bill, they didn't even check what we had eaten and drunk, which resulted in us receiving an incorrect bill as well. Truly a terrible experience, and I wish we had checked the reviews beforehand. Because by the looks of it, this restaurant has gone downhill really badly over the last few months. So think twice before you eat here ;)

Food very good. The staff could use a little bit of a smile; they came across as gruff and quite grumpy or arrogant. I also had to approach the staff myself to be able to order something. Fortunately, the food made up for that. Update: Ate there again after the major renovation. This time the staff were smiling and came to the table regularly. Pizzas large and very tasty.

I had a delicious meal! 😋 Everything was truly excellent, from the quality of the food to the service. A special compliment to the waiter: incredibly friendly, professional, and attentive. He made sure we felt welcome right away. Definitely worth repeating! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Picked up 9 pizzas here tonight. The pizzas were really delicious, and because we were staying in a holiday cottage, we got two pizza knives with them. What a friendly place, and once again, truly fantastic pizzas.

Just picked up scaloppa gorgonzola with salad twice; everything was ready neatly at the agreed time. Friendly service greeted me upon entry. The food was very good and, above all, nice and hot until the last bite; nothing to complain about. I find the new renovation very nicely done; nothing to complain about. Very good value for money.

The pasta carbonara is substandard. They add Parmesan cheese and cream to it. When I go to an Italian restaurant, I expect to get it the way it should be, not a tampered-with version.

We went out for dinner at Isolabella with a group tonight. But it was a huge disappointment. The pasta dishes were far too dry; they tasted like chewing gum. There was hardly any sauce. The meat dishes had so much cheese on them that you couldn't taste the meat anymore. Salmon that was supposed to come with fresh seasonal vegetables turned out to be cold, limp canned vegetables dripping in oil. And we thought the fries served with one dish tasted like fish... And the waiter told us that the fries are fried in the same oil used to fry fish!! Sorry, but a good chef knows that you should NEVER do that, because for someone with a fish allergy, something like that can be fatal!! We weren't received very warmly either. There were no forks on our tables; we had to ask for them twice. And even after we had complained to the staff about the food, we even had to call out again before we were served... When paying, the lady mentioned that we could not pay dish by dish. While her colleague reported a little later that it was possible, but that it would take too long. We also had to pay first before we were shown the bill. We are giving 1 star, but that is actually still too much!!

It used to be quite tasty, but now with a new owner? The pastry is soggy, very soft. There were two small pieces of gorgonzola on my Quatro formaggi…

Delicious pizza and friendly staff

We arrived and I said I had reserved for two. We could still sit outside if we wanted. But that was a godforsaken corner. So we went inside; we weren't greeted there, so we sat down at a four-person table. The waiter said it was reserved, but there was no "reserved" sign. However, the menus were on the table, so apparently it was reserved. We ordered food; it arrived at the table without any garnish on the plate—usually there is a small salad on it—but nothing of the sort. We inquired that it had to be ordered separately. But it didn't look nice. We had ordered extra garlic on the scallops, but we don't think there was any on them either. A bit disappointed.

Last night we ate there for the first time since the renovation, but this is not something we'll be repeating. For starters, bread with "homemade" herb butter; well, just a few thin slices of hard-baked bread with a tiny tub of butter. I had a Quattro Formaggi Speciale; the special part was the ham and the basil. Well, you practically had to search for the amount of cheese: 3 tiny pieces of Brie, a tiny bit of Gorgonzola, a tiny bit of Mozzarella, and a tiny bit of Parmesan. The ham was the cheapest ham you can buy for toasted sandwiches in the supermarket; the basil was decent in itself. We had a bottle of Chardonnay with it, 2 craft beers, and asked for a carafe of water—that’s no longer possible, only a ridiculously expensive 0.7-liter bottle of water. Where is this lousy place heading? In the Netherlands, we have perfectly fine tap water. There was also no offer of a glass of water with the wine. A glass of simple Chardonnay for 6 euros... The service also left much to be desired; they couldn't manage a friendly smile and had to force attention several times just to get someone to the table. Final tally: 1 portion of bread with herb butter, 3 pizzas, 1 spaghetti with shrimp, 4 Affligem Blond, 1 bottle of Chardonnay, 1 glass of Chardonnay, a cappuccino, a very small latte macchiato, and a coffee for 145 euros; too sad for words. Oh yes, and you sit pretty packed together outside. If you slide your chair back, you make contact with the neighbors behind you. We won't be coming back here; we'll go sit with the much more hospitable neighbors instead. In this case, innovation is absolutely not progress, but actually a step backward.

I have been going to Isolabella my whole life. And today was the first time since the renovation; we came to pick up pizzas. First impression: beautiful new decor, but so open, as if everyone is sitting together at a table. Next, we had to wait 10 minutes for the pizza. The waitress showed us to a table. Then, apparently, we were seated in the wrong place, and she pointed out to us, somewhat annoyed, where we were supposed to sit instead. The pizza itself is really such a shame; the dough is thick, bread-like, and there is twice as much tomato sauce as usual. Really not tasty. And the pasta was tasteless too. A real pity.

It has become very nice under the new owner/setup. The staff is nice but lacks overview. We sat upstairs near the toilets, not a pleasant spot... you really need to think about that more carefully. The order was incomplete and the dish was missing the side dishes... we had to ask for them. No service after 9:00 PM; we did have the menu for dessert, but no one came to take our order... they could have made at least €100 more in revenue from drinks and dessert for 6 people!!! The staff was busy cleaning and restocking... and when asked if everything was okay, I replied, "Not entirely"... and then it went quiet and the card was shoved under my nose. We were celebrating our son's graduation, but it ended on a bit of a disappointment!

Very mediocre, takes a long time, wine forgotten, mayonnaise forgotten, tenderloin at 36 euros dry and overcooked. Very mediocre food and staff even worse. When the wine arrived, she didn't know how to open the bottle, I had to do it myself.... A screw cap!!!!

Good food. Service mediocre. They don't give the impression of enjoying their work. Waited more than 45 minutes for food after ordering. The food was delicious, by the way. During the meal, they didn't ask if we wanted anything to drink; a missed opportunity! All in all, fine food, but you shouldn't be in a hurry 😅👌

New owner. New staff, but saw one veteran. The pizza was deliciously old-fashioned, but the service still needs some getting used to. Very friendly, though, but lacking organization. What was really below par... NO glass of water with the wine. I find this such a letdown... Luckily, I had a bottle of water with me, and the waiter actually agreed with me. We sat on the outdoor terrace where there were good chairs, but inside it has changed so much... almost like a Chinese restaurant. No Italian atmosphere, not at all...

The restaurant has been nicely renovated, with comfortable chairs and benches and a bit more space between the tables. If you need something, you have to hope they bump into your table, otherwise they won't see you. We were eating our starter—which was the best in terms of taste, by the way—when we were told that our main course was ready. The main course disappointed everyone: little/distinctive flavor, strange proportions, and not very warm. The champagne glasses are not up to standard and the prosecco has a screw cap. When we asked for a spoon with the iced coffee, we were given a tablespoon. Unfortunately for us, it is not worth a repeat visit.

The renovated building is bright and open, but still lacks atmosphere. All four of us found the Italian food to be well below par. Bland and lacked flavor.

After the renovation, this restaurant still ranks among the best Italian restaurants. Pleasantly busy and plenty of choice. Still a regular customer!

When we arrived, we were served immediately. We were also allowed to choose whether to sit inside or outside. Things went wrong with the starters. We had ordered bread with herb butter and something else. The bread roll was not brought, and after asking someone, we received only the herb butter without bread. After asking someone again, we received the bread a while later. We ended up having to wait well over an hour for our main course, and during that hour, we were not offered any drinks. Eventually, someone came over to us saying they would sort it out, but he didn't return, and it took 15 minutes before someone came to our table to offer drinks and tell us it was on its way. When the food finally arrived, it wasn't worth the wait either. We had ordered the pasta carbonara, and it was so incredibly bad that we couldn't eat any further. In short, not worth the trip.

We dined last night with a small group. The pizzas were barely 'reasonable': with quite flat, black edges, and without herbs or flavor. The pasta was mealy and overcooked – it hadn't been al dente for a while. The pasta dishes lacked depth, and the (dry) carbonara even tasted quite strange. Overall, we feel that the quality of the ingredients has deteriorated and the price has gone up considerably. We hadn't been there for a while. The interior has since been 'renovated' into a sleek, soulless affair. Sound echoes enormously in this characterless restaurant box, leaving us walking out with a headache at the end of the evening. The staff seems to be suffering from it themselves as well: drinks are practically being thrown across the table, and not a single friendly word is to be had. In short: we should just cherish the fond memories of the old days, because there is no warmth left to be found in this new 'overpriced dining' concept.

If you buy a frozen pizza in a supermarket in Africa it will taste waaaaaaay much better. It was by far my worst dinner ever. Don’t get fooled, there is absolutely nothing Italian in this Italian restaurant. And the pizza is incredibly expansive.

It has become a bit more expensive after the renovation, which is understandable. But 7.50 for a glass of wine and then 3.50 for a glass of water alongside it, we find disproportionate. The pizza was tasty.

Went out to eat again after the renovation. The food was of very good quality. Not 5 stars because the food arrived very quickly. You notice that making money is worth more than the experience.

Overall, the food was great. My pizza arrived later, after everyone else had already been served. It turned out they'd forgotten my pizza. It happens, but it wasn't a problem. We were offered a free round of drinks as compensation, which was neatly resolved until we went to pay... It turned out they hadn't mentioned that we'd be getting a free round of drinks, which can happen too. Only the (I think it was the owner) argued with the person we were paying about why we'd been promised those drinks, and that she thought the wait wasn't too bad, and that she had some doubts about whether we should have received them at all. I find that quite unprofessional and not customer-friendly.

This is the most tasteless food I've ever had. The only thing that was decent was the bread. The pizzas are just ridiculous, wooden with tasteless ingredients. It looks and tastes absolutely disgusting. The pizza with Bolognese ragout looked like a dog barfed in it. And the taste was salty and boring. The calzone was equally gross. It's a shame, but the average deep frozen pizza is even better. The spaghetti is nothing interesting. The scaloppa was dry and tasteless. The desserts are uninventive, boring and the chocolate lava cake tastes like mashed potatoes and cheap chocolate. Even the espresso was disgusting. It's just incredible.

The pizza was delicious. The dessert was smaller than you usually get, but I actually like that. I spent €30 on pizza, one drink, and dessert, so nothing wrong with that. The welcome from a young employee was very friendly. I found the table service curt and grumpy, which is something to be gained! The seating inside is quite cramped, and I found the music way too loud to have a normal conversation.

We were unfortunately disappointed in this restaurant. The pizzas were far below par. The crust was burnt and some of the toppings were cold, which certainly didn't meet what you'd expect from a Frutti di Mare. This was our first, but definitely our last, visit.

Solid spot for pizza. The pizza was genuinely delicious-They don’t hold back on cheese and it makes a difference. Inside, the vibe is low-lit and calm, more suited for a quiet meal. But the outdoor seating is a good option too if you want something more open. Overall, worth it.

I had a delicious, perfect pizza. Huge selection, great service, and when I paid, I thought: that's not so bad. In short: highly recommended for pizza lovers and other foodies. Thanks to my housekeeper who recommended this restaurant, and rightly so! When you read the reviews about this restaurant when you get home, you think, ouch: this could be better. Take the criticism on board and put it into practice.

My daughter and a friend and her daughter had a wonderful meal here after a wonderful afternoon of ice skating in Groningen. The service was excellent again, and the staff were friendly. The pizza makers were also very friendly and great.

A large restaurant with a great menu. Not with 200 pizzas, but a modest selection. The food was delicious. We prefer a smaller restaurant for a more atmospheric experience.

The pizza dough is just wooden, although the filling is normal. Carbonara was made from cheap parmesan, the taste was not rich. But the staff is friendly.

We were a bit disappointed when our food was put on the table. On the pizza margeritha there were large, cheap slices of young cheese. This was disappointing. When we said something about it, nothing was done about it and no apologies were offered. Too bad!

During the TT festival we had a quick bite to eat with 2 kids. We had a pizza 🍕 Margarita, pizza 🍕 Rucola, penne Arabica and a spaghetti bolognese. And everyone had a drink (2 x cola, 1 x ice tea, 1 x non-alcoholic 🍺). Total of €92.50. The food tasted great. Nothing wrong with it! But the taste did fade a bit when we got the bill! I understand that the prices during the TT festival are a bit higher. But why a menu with a sticker on each price with the 'TT price' on it? The old prices can still be read through the sticker. A pizza 🍕 Margarita for €15 euros???? And a rucola for €24???? I think that is a bit out of proportion... I later heard from someone that you had to pay €40 for a scaloppa???? Ergo: it was tasty, but too expensive!

The pizza was quite tasty, but unfortunately, due to the 100th anniversary of the Assen TT, it was more expensive. The "likely" price was taped up and overwritten; we unfortunately noticed it too late because we had already ordered drinks, which were billed at 0.5 liters, but not filled that way and served in plastic cups. Unfortunately, the tourist was a real rip-off. So be careful and check it out first if there are such events coming up.

The service was terrible. The food tasted okay, but it was completely ruined by the terrible service. People like that shouldn't work there. The brunette made it clear that we were not welcome.

I've been coming here since 1988 and the pizzas are still delicious. And also nice, open on Mondays. Fast and friendly service. The rock hard seats of the chairs are a little less comfortable, a cushion would be nice. Or just new upholstered chairs....

We were seated in an uninviting, very warm room on the first floor, the beer was dead, the service was stressed, we had to wait a very long time for the pizzas and in the end they also resembled a wet, limp piece of dough.

1 star for the pizzas. Rest is not worthy of a star. The service is extremely bad. It was not possible to sit inside, the answer was short: "only outside", there was only one wobbly table available, there was still some rubbish left, but it was not taken away afterwards. Then it took a very long time before we were helped, and when we asked if there was baguette with garlic sauce, we were bluntly answered "there isn't". We then opted for baguette with herb butter, but after waiting 45 minutes, if not longer, we only got our pizzas. We immediately indicated this and received a simple answer. "Oh, I'll take it off the bill." The staff outside was talking to people at the entrance more than doing their job. Certainly not worth repeating. We were there for almost 2 hours and only had 1 drink and 1 pizza during that time.

Nice restaurant with a decor that makes you feel like you're in Italy. The Italian music is pleasant as a background. Very nice and attentive service. The staff enjoys it. The pizzas are really classy! Deliciously crispy base and richly topped with mostly fresh ingredients. My partner's gluten-free pizza was also very tasty. According to her, the tastiest gluten-free pizza ever. The bill was surprisingly affordable. We will come here more often!

Great restaurant for delicious Italian food. I have never been disappointed with the quality of the food or service.

Italian restaurant. In addition to pizzerias, there are also other specialties on the menu. Their lasagna al forno is one of my favorites. What I particularly like about the restaurant is the space around you. Some pizzerias seem a bit cramped due to the closely spaced tables and chairs. Not at this restaurant. There is also nothing to criticize about the staff. Friendly and helpful.

We had a delicious meal at Isolabella again tonight. That wasn't the issue. But afterwards we noticed that my menu in particular: Scallopina with Gorgonzola sauce, was a stripped-down version of what I was used to. Less meat, no sandwiches, some fries. The salad was separately on the bill for 1.50. What passed for salad was quite amusing. 1 olive, 1 slice of carrot, 3 slices of cucumber, a teaspoon of corn kernels and some leafy vegetables. This poverty was presented in a container the size of a teacup. All this for 26.50. Everything is becoming more expensive everywhere, but you can also go too far.

Nice restaurant, but jalapeño in the aglio e olio really missed the mark. The dish lost its traditional taste due to this unnecessary addition.

The ice creams are fantastic, they serve whipped cream with what falls apart on the plate, not my type of sport I ordered spaghetti alla carbonara and my husband ordered alla carbonara with tagliatelle, a little later a waitress came to announce that tagliatelle could not be delivered. Waiter's response, this was not communicated to me? So both spaghetti….. Ordered dessert…. My husband said again about the ice cream. We cannot deliver your choice, then it is ready, I asked for the bill for two seconds, then they arrived with my ice cream and my husband was allowed to choose another one, but not. They canceled the order nicely, only the waitress could have paid with a friendlier face. Unfortunately that didn't happen, too bad, we will always drive well to Zuidlaren in the future!

We didn't have to wait long, I thought there was no salmon on it and the pizza was immediately shown to the chef, who pointed out that the pizza was small pieces of salmon, a well-filled pizza, it was tasty, nice atmosphere too.

Had a delicious pizza, but always had to look for a place. On the advice of the waiter, no fish pizza outside in the summer due to flies. Good tip. Service fine and nice.

Nice meal. Sandwiches in advance are warm and fresh, the spaghetti bolognese was also great. Service was less, we sat outside on the terrace on the market side. My food arrived 5 minutes earlier than the pizza from the friend I was having dinner with and I also asked for a drink in between, because no one came by. We had a bit of a feeling that they were looking over us. Would definitely go there again for the food, just a little closer to the restaurant ;)

The pizza was tasty. The service sometimes took a bit long. We still did not receive the drinks after 15 minutes of ordering. And it was very busy. We were in a place where a lot of people walked by, so you couldn't enjoy the food in peace. People walking by also often touched the table or my coat hanging over the chair. When I asked if there was another table available, everything was full. That was a shame. I must say the boy who served at our table was very nice and neat and he worked hard.

Made a reservation with the wish to be able to order a gluten-free pizza 4 times. On the evening itself, the gluten-free pizza bases are gone. Unfortunately the manager couldn't tell us himself and the waiter had to do it. Fortunately we found another restaurant for this evening.

Totally horrible!!! Work and private life are not kept separate, really antisocial! The sentence is said out loud “I'm not helping you, get out”. Customer unfriendly, waited on the phone for 20 minutes because there was no answer. Then you just go and have this thrown at you. Not recommended…!

Spontaneously walked in and were immediately seated on a busy Friday evening. We had a delicious meal and we noticed that despite the crowds, the staff was very polite and attentive, something that is often no longer the case. Eating for less than 100 euros with 3 people is almost impossible, but we managed it here! It's that we were so full from the food otherwise we would have had an ice cream, which looked really great too! ;)

Everything was super good and tasty.

Inside looks nice, but it is very noisy when busy, hard to follow conversations. Food is nice, portionsizes are large, but the taste is very 'Dutch'. Also, if you order a dish with sauce, your dish will actually be drowning in sauce. For me that's a negative. My pizza was nice, but had too many toppings, made the whole thing sag and difficult to eat. Again, an overtopped pizza night be great for some, but a negative for me. Staff was friendly enough, but undertrained and overworked.

Sitting and eating on the terrace; great place. Service was good. Menu is huge, lots of options when it comes to pizza - a bit too many perhaps. It gave me a bit of stress about choosing, but yes, a luxury problem. When bringing the meal, the servers only mentioned the number of the pizza, which I didn't remember, lol. So they asked which number belonged to which name because we had all ordered similar pizzas. My pizza was okay, but very salty. Crust was perfect. The pizzas are quite large, but you can request a smaller one for a 1 euro discount. It is not possible to choose a half and half pizza.

Had a very nice meal with an "old" colleague and both partners. It was quite busy and we were immediately warned that the food could take half an hour to 45 minutes. But we often experience this without warning. And if you have a tasty starter, it won't be too bad. Despite the crowds, we could hear each other well. My Scaloppa with Gorgonzola was delicious but quite filling. Portion with fries and lettuce was too big after that tasty starter. The pizzas were also well filled and tasty. Management was well coordinated and busy.
