Great lunch stop. Busy at peak times. Good selection of freshly prepped food and snacks.

There were five of us there this afternoon. Absolutely fantastic! We'll definitely be back next time we're in Middelburg!

A very pleasant atmosphere, whether for breakfast, lunch, coffee with a treat, or drinks with a tasty platter and the like. We spent every time outside on the terrace because the weather was very pleasant. In any case, we were very lucky with the service: despite it being understandably very busy, we received clear orders, the right questions, service, and attention in between. In Middelburg? Go for it! You definitely have to visit here sometime...

What a place! A gem in the city center of Middelburg. We had to wait a bit for a table, which wasn't a problem at all, because that way you could clearly see that all the products were fresh thanks to all the herb bins on display. The food was fantastic! The Italian bread with burrata is highly recommended. The staff is very friendly and the garden is beautiful.

Nice spot next to the Lange Jan in Middelburg. The inner courtyard with lots of greenery. It was quite full, but there was enough turnover that you get a table quickly.

A green oasis in the middle of the city, housed in what was once part of the great Middelburg Abbey, whose origins date back to the 12th century. Carefully rebuilt after the destruction of WWII. Through a narrow gate topped with a stone relief, you reach the inner courtyard filled with plants and shrubs, where it is pleasant to spend time with a view of the Lange Jan. The menu offers a wide selection and the food was tasty. Add to that a friendly, prompt service. I would recommend making a reservation during the busy summer months.

You get a breakfast with a boiled egg. You can also get scrambled eggs upon request, but no fried eggs. Cheese slices and jam are served as standard toppings. Some ham or other toppings would be nice, but that option was not available. The bread rolls were tasty and nicely crispy, but the croissants were not fresh; they were bake-at-home croissants that were hard, not what you expect from a croissant. A standard bolus is included, which was good. The price was also good for what you get, but I would have liked a few more choices for breakfast.

I had an Italian Ciabatta with salmon and cream cheese and it was really delicious! Great location, delicious food! 👍 👍

Super cozy place to stop in; delicious food - tomato soup and a wrap - were served very attractively and the service is truly first-class.

The salads are excellent and the terrace is really lovely when the weather is nice!

Pros: all cakes were really good, and service was quite fast. The best part about the cafe is the nice courtyard atmosphere. Cons: close the kitchen quite early, around 1.5 hours before closing time and the homemade drinks were very bland. We had the mango passion fruit and strawberry with mixed berries drinks which were very underwhelming.

The beautifully planted and decorated courtyard is absolutely stunning; I highly recommend it. The coffee and cake were also delicious, and the service was very friendly.

A lovely courtyard, like a garden with many nooks and crannies. Great for lunch, coffee, or a glass of wine in the evening. Very friendly service.

We arrived and wanted to have a quick lunch. It seemed like a suitable place; however, we sat down outside on the terrace on a 25-degree day. After 10 minutes, no one had come by yet, so we walked inside to ask if we were supposed to order inside. That wasn't the case, and we could just sit down. We waited another 10 minutes before we could order drinks. But we ordered lunch right away, otherwise I think we would still be sitting there tomorrow... the waitstaff was unfriendly and very slow; service was poor. The food was very tasty and we enjoyed it, but apart from that, I don't have much more to mention.

We went for drinks and I ordered their Blonde house beer and my companion ordered the Zeeuwse Spritz. Great outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the Tall John Abbey Tower… nice bit of scenery to photograph without tourists bumping into you. Service was friendly and attentive without hovering. Solid spot for a relaxed afternoon, recommended.

The cake and coffee were good. The salad came without dressing, but that's normal in the Netherlands. It was a lovely place to sit with a great view.

Jells is a fantastic place that I can highly recommend. The food was excellent and fresh. The coffee was especially delicious. One of the highlights is the relaxed courtyard seating area, which creates a calm and welcoming atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot to sit back, enjoy your meal and unwind. I also appreciated that my dog was warmly welcomed, making the experience even more enjoyable. Overall Jells offers great food, amazing coffee, a laid-back atmosphere, and excellent service. I’ll definitely be back!

A beautifully situated, "enchanted" garden in the courtyard. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The numerous flowers, combined with the backdrop of the "Langer Jan" (Long John) building, create a truly wonderful ambiance. The only downside is that the local birds have become so "socialized" that they venture right up to the tables to steal leftover food from guests who have already left.

Very disappointing... Paid 5 euros for a matcha to go. It was served in a very small cup, the kind you normally drink a double espresso from. With my first sip, I got a large lump of undissolved matcha. Unfortunately, this was a harbinger, because it just wasn't mixed well. It was high-quality matcha, though... but next time, please mix it a bit longer and don't be so stingy, and give a normal to-go cup or charge half the price... jeez

Beautiful, lush green setting and excellent food! One small drawback: the service... they don't really speak English, so it's not always easy to make yourself understood. Vegetarian and vegan options are available. Great! I recommend it!

TRULY FANTASTIC!!!! I have very high standards because I live with a retired chef who cooks wonderfully, so I often think, "Hmm, I eat better at home." But this is truly divine! Surprising combinations, perfectly baked bread, a beautiful location, and a lovely atmosphere. This is the third time we have eaten here. Every time we are in Zeeland, we make a special trip here. A truly top-notch spot!!!!

I had a drink here on a Wednesday with one other person. They have a very nice and cozy courtyard with plenty of seating. You can have lunch, drinks, and order snacks here starting at 3:00 PM. Friendly staff. Definitely recommended.

We stopped here on a visit to Middelburg, we only had coffee and cake (chocolate cake and apple tart), it was absolutely lovely, best cappuccino I’ve had and as you can see from the picture the cakes were a great success, lovely chap served us, very friendly and good spot to do a bit of people watching. Recommend

We really enjoyed ourselves with my 3-year-old daughter. Cozy atmosphere and a complete lunch (apple pie, flatbread). There could have been a bit more Tzatziki on the flatbread, or served it separately. It was super fun and what a nice lady from Jells; my daughter got to decorate her own apple pie.

A delightful lunch in the sunny courtyard of Jelle Lunchcafe. Even in the February sun, it's pleasantly warm. I think it gets too hot in the summer, but this time it was wonderful. The menu is extensive, and the dishes are all delicious. The garden itself is beautifully maintained, with spacious tables. The service is excellent, although I always struggle with the system where you can't have someone take your order for drinks.

It's a shame they don't tell you they're closing soon when you order, and then you have to wait 30 minutes for the appetizers to arrive, which then arrive when the wine is gone and the place is empty and almost closing. How unpleasant.

Written in capital letters. Located near De Lange Jan. Prepare to be surprised and plan a visit to this acclaimed establishment. You definitely won't regret it. Top location!

Today was our fourth visit to Jells Lunchcafé, centrally located in Middelburg. Whenever we're in Middelburg, it's a recommended place to take a break and grab a bite to eat and a drink. The selection of food and drinks is varied, including seasonal specials. The staff is very attentive, competent, and friendly, and they bid us farewell with a smile. In fact, if you, like us, want a table inside at lunchtime with six or more people, you should make a reservation. We'd be happy to come back!

So if you don't know where you're going, you'll easily walk right past the café. In the back courtyard is a small bistro and café, where you can sit in the pleasant courtyard. Everything is very nicely decorated, and you can sit among flowers, shrubs, and colorful tables and benches, partly in the shade or, if you like, in the sun. The service is very friendly, but the apple pie didn't quite fit with the rest. But all in all, I'd gladly go back.
