Today was our fourth visit to Jells Lunchcafé, centrally located in Middelburg. Whenever we're in Middelburg, it's a recommended place to take a break and grab a bite to eat and a drink. The selection of food and drinks is varied, including seasonal specials. The staff is very attentive, competent, and friendly, and they bid us farewell with a smile. In fact, if you, like us, want a table inside at lunchtime with six or more people, you should make a reservation. We'd be happy to come back!

Lovely lunch café with a large, green terrace. They have a delicious local blond beer on tap at a reasonable price. It's pleasantly busy, even on a weekday.

So if you don't know where you're going, you'll easily walk right past the café. In the back courtyard is a small bistro and café, where you can sit in the pleasant courtyard. Everything is very nicely decorated, and you can sit among flowers, shrubs, and colorful tables and benches, partly in the shade or, if you like, in the sun. The service is very friendly, but the apple pie didn't quite fit with the rest. But all in all, I'd gladly go back.

Had a lovely lunch with my wife yesterday. A gem in the city center. Beautiful garden and very pleasant to sit in.

Delicious food in a cute courtyard. But: the two main courses are simply too expensive; the price ratio isn't right. Both were around €17.00, which is too much. Drinks, cake, and coffee were reasonably priced and also very tasty.

It's lovely to sit in the garden. It's a shame they don't have iced coffee anymore.

We really enjoyed our lunch here; the salads were super fresh, plentiful, and creatively selected! The waiters are very friendly and welcoming; it's easy to strike up a conversation, making the time spent on the beautiful flower-filled terrace all the more enjoyable! We'd love to go back!

The staff is extremely friendly and prompt, and service runs smoothly even when the crowds are busy. Prices are moderate – good quality at a fair price.

The place to be in Middelburg! A charming setting in a former courtyard. Lots of greenery. Tables and seating are playfully spread across the entire (partially covered) terrace. The interior is also nicely decorated. Friendly and fast staff. Delicious (lunch) dishes on the menu at reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Toevallig in de binnentuin terecht gekomen. Prachtig terras met veel hoekjes en kantjes, omringd door talloze potten met verschillende planten. Vriendelijk personeel, mooie kaart. Salade met geitenkaas was bijzonder lekker. Prijs/kwaliteit : top ! Verborgen parel, hoewel er veel volk die parel wist te vinden !

Bizarre experience just now on the terrace. Normally it is lovely to sit and eat here. Today I ate the chicken wrap and during my last bite I felt something hard in my mouth. It turned out to be a sticky hook, never experienced anything like that before. Where work is done, things can go wrong, we reported our crazy find to the waitress. She was shocked and said she would come back to us. Instead of the nice waitress, the owner came to our table. A rather feisty type who immediately shouted that it was impossible. There were supposed to be no such hooks in the kitchen, so it was impossible that it was in the wrap. "So you are saying that we put it in ourselves?" "I'm not saying that", the lady says sharply, but she continues to claim that it is impossible that this hook was in the wrap. When I indicate that an apology is appropriate, she continues to argue with us and there is really no apology. "Then I'll fire someone in the kitchen", she says, and she walks away again. Bizarre, I have never been treated like that in the catering industry. We are completely flabbergasted. Fortunately, we speak to a nice waitress a little later who does apologize. The wrap was not charged (the rest was), but we left with a very bad aftertaste!! You will not see me here again anytime soon, fortunately there are enough other nice places in Middelburg. And sweet waitresses: good luck with this boss.

Had lunch here. Good food, reasonable prices too. However, in the field of hygiene and sanitary facilities it is unsatisfactory. The table is not cleaned even though there were several leftovers. I wiped the worst off the table with the menu. Dirty cutlery and wine glass. Insufficient toilets, resulting in a queue. Toilet also dirty and sink clogged.

We met a waitress who apparently didn't feel like it. Curt, unkind. It is quite slanted, a table fell over without us touching it with a full glass of wine. I would just offer a new one. Glass everywhere on the ground, we had a wheelchair because our disabled daughter asked if we could put 'that cart' aside. In short; beautiful location but waitress with red lipstick apparently didn't think we were bothered.

Klantvriendelijkheid en verantwoordelijkheid zijn vreemd woorden in dit lunchcafé. Vandaag kwamen we hier voor een late lunch. Het was erg druk en we moesten vrij lang wachten voordat we konden bestellen. Op de vraag of er gerechten vegan gemaakt konden worden kreeg ik geen super vriendelijke reactie, maar dat ben ik wel gewend. Na een beetje zoeken werden toch twee gerechten genoemd. De salades konden helaas allemaal niet vegan gemaakt worden…serieus? Maar goed, het werd voor mij dus, alweer, falafel op flatbread. Na 20 minuten wachten kwam een jonge dame ons vertellen dat de keuken mijn falafel gerecht helaas niet vegan gemaakt had en dus moest het opnieuw gemaakt worden. Dus we moesten weer wachten. 15 minuten later kwamen eindelijk onze gerechten. De flatbread was keihard, maar daar kreeg ik gelukkig een steakmes voor. Verder was het gerecht lekker. Ik had het ongeveer 70% opgegeten toen ik ineens op iets heel hards beet. Ik schrok en stopte met kauwen. Ik haalde een hard en vlijmscherp stuk plastic uit mijn mond. Wauw! De schrik zat er goed in, want het was gewoon super gevaarlijk. Het had mijn mond of mijn keel kunnen opensnijden want er zaten scherpe punten aan twee kanten van het stuk plastic. Mijn eetlust was voorbij. Ik vertelde dit aan de serveerster en liet het stuk plastic zien. Ze bood haar excuses aan en nam het bord mee. Na een poosje kwam ze terug en bood ook namens de keuken haar excuses aan. Of ik het gerecht opnieuw wilde bestellen? Echt niet dus. Ten eerste had ik geen honger meer en ten tweede geen zin! Ik vroeg om de rekening. Ze verdween weer en kwam al gauw weer terug met de rekening. Of ze me een gratis drankje mocht aanbieden voor het ongemak…. WTF? Nee, dankjewel! Nou dan, ze zou het glaasje spa rood van de rekening halen, maar mijn gerecht moest ik wel gewoon betalen. Sorry? Niet te geloven! Ik ben sprakeloos en echt woedend. Nederlandse gierigheid en klantonvriendelijkheid bij uitstek. En zo brutaal. Ik had een excuus van de manager verwacht, misschien een vraag of ik me pijn gedaan had, of tenminste mijn gerecht van de rekening af. Maar nee hoor. Dit was gewoon een sterk staaltje Nederlandse F* off mentaliteit. Bah bah bah. NOOIT MEER HIER!

The perfect place to have lunch. Everything done as well as it could be and the staff always fast efficient and naturally friendly. The courtyard under the Lange Jan is kind of hard to beat. Again run by people who are busy with every aspect of what they do. Always busy and popular but you never feel crowded and you never feel like that table over there would have been better- which is a hard thing to pull off.

Soooo sad, so disappointed in Jells... Today we come to Jells for a delicious lunch. If we want to sit inside, we are asked to find a spot outside. We indicate that we would rather sit inside because the temperature is not yet high, but this is not responded to and the gentleman simply walks away without even looking at us! We understand if it is not possible, but please speak to us politely! We are not used to this from Jells, the ladies are always very customer friendly!

Ideal place to have a typical Dutch lunch. Homemade cuisine, with fresh ingredients and very friendly staff, all in a place full of history, with a beautiful terrace at the foot of the Lange Jan tower

The pulled beef wrap was quite tasteless. It was quite a large portion, but the flavors weren't there. There was supposed to be cheese in it, but it was nowhere to be seen. The cheese nachos didn't go with it.

A beautiful location. A courtyard with plenty of sun. Tables fairly close together. Ministry may require a little self-reflection. To the question “Did you enjoy it?” (Salmon salad) we had the answer “It doesn't have much taste, we think!” We found it flat. (few seasonings). Her answer: “Yes, tastes differ!” And then they looked at her from behind. Clearly not here anymore for us. Although you can sit here comfortably.

Midden in het centrum naast de kerk zit dit pareltje. Bij lekker weer kan je heerlijk buiten zitten in de gezellige tuin. Een ruime menukaart met veel verse, bijzondere gerechten die erg lekker zijn. Je kan merken dat alles hier met passie wordt gemaakt. Echt een aanrader voor een lekkere lunch midden in de stad.

Service poor, table cleaned itself and wipes were black from dirt and red from the pasta/salad from previous guests. Unfortunately, this lady didn't know what she was doing. Ultimately asked for a bill but paid in, food and drinks were fine.

Heerlijk buiten in grote tuin genieten van hapje en een drankje gezellige sfeer vriendelijke personeel. Ook met minder lekker wer kun je binnen zitten ze hebben echte verse appeltaart,en andere soorten gebak.
