We went to lunch with a group this afternoon. Behind us was a long table where people had also eaten. A staff member was sweeping the floor with a broom, then pushing the chairs aside and "sweeping" the table with the same broom. I watched in amazement as this fine fellow first swept food off the floor, then back onto the table with the broom, then the floor again, and finally the table again. After that, the candles were lit and the next group of people were brought to their table. Not very hygienic, if you ask me.

Great location by the water! The food is delicious and tasty and comes pretty quick when ordering! They also have a wide range of snacks and drinks to go along with them! The spare ribs and chicken burger is tasty! The beef burger has a bit of an odd taste but overall good none the less! We have gone here multiple times and will do so again :) I recommend making a reservation as sometimes it gets busy during the evening!

No longer dog-friendly – ​​a big disappointment I used to love coming here with my dog. Always friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, that's completely changed now. Dogs are only welcome at one long table right by the entrance – the least inviting spot in the entire restaurant – or you have to sit outside. When I asked if the heater could be turned on outside because it was cold, I was refused. Such a shame. A little bit of customer service would have made all the difference. Honest advice to Kaaphoorn: just put up a sign saying "No dogs allowed." Then dog owners will immediately know what to expect and will look for a place where their four-legged friends are welcome. It's a shame that a once so pleasant and welcoming restaurant has changed so much.

We ate here for the first time, together with friends from Groningen. A nice outing.

Friendly, helpful, and kind staff. The food was varied; much of it was tasty, but the spare ribs were inedible. Very dry and truly unappetizing, as were the few burnt Brussels sprouts that were practically the only vegetables. Such a shame. We mentioned this to the staff, which they seemed to appreciate. The cocktails were good, though. We had a pleasant evening, even though the food could have been better.

You can sit inside or outside and have a great drinks platter

A busy restaurant, geared towards groups. Delicious lunch, lots to taste, too much to eat, and you could take the rest home in a container if you wanted. A bit short on brown bread, more white varieties. A successful dinner. A pity: a long table for 25 people; they didn't have a square or round one. So you don't see the whole group.

A lovely spot for a bite to eat and a drink, but a barbecue for a large group wasn't a success. The next group arrived in less than an hour, and we were kindly asked to move. We were eventually allowed to stay, but the service wasn't very attentive. The food itself was fine. The service was also friendly.

My husband had a terrible experience ordering soup and fries. They were served simultaneously, so either one or the other gets cold. At Kaap, the appetizer and main course are served simultaneously. I regularly eat at restaurants and have never experienced this before. The person who brought it was very rude. Could they order it one after the other? No, that wasn't possible, as mentioned above. She had nothing to do with it and simply walked away during our conversation. During lunch, she regularly walked past us, continuing to glare at us. What rude behavior you cultivate in your staff. Relaxed atmosphere, beautiful surroundings perfect for a walk, excellent and plentiful food. Plenty of space between tables so you don't get in each other's way. The salads are especially recommended!

Fantastically situated at the tip of the Kaapse Baan on Hoornsemeer lake. A large, free parking lot is available. What's particularly striking is the sheer size of the terrace directly on Hoornsemeer lake, with literally hundreds of tables, varying heights, furnishings, etc. Very popular! Live music is regularly featured in the summer. The welcome is pleasant. The decor and atmosphere are excellent and cozy. Everything is clean and tidy. Friendly and efficient service. Excellent and clean restrooms. I chose the Rustic Brown Roll Carpaccio for lunch. Delicious and exactly as it should be! All in all, a great place, whether as a resting point or starting point for anything, excellent for relaxing, and perfectly suited for celebrating anything together. It's always busy, especially in summer, partly due to the adjacent Hoornseplas recreational lake. Reservations are not strictly necessary, but are recommended... Ed Jansen

Upon entering, we were told we could choose a spot outside. Not a minute later, the waitress told us we weren't allowed to sit there (I've sat there before). She pointed to the "dog area" where we were allowed to sit. The cushions were wet, so I didn't sit there. We then sat on the terrace, and she hadn't offered a menu. Fifteen minutes later, I walked over and they laughed in my face. So I just left. I was "helped" by Sanna and her colleague. I always found this a pleasant place, but after this experience, I'm very disappointed...too bad!

Worst hygiene ever. Everything with hands that he happily runs through his hair for a second. And don't drink the cocktails; there's no alcohol in them. Way too inexperienced kids. For that price, you expect something. A few appetizers, 6 cocktails, almost 200 euros lighter. They're taking advantage of their location.

August 16, 2025 : On an extremely hot day, my family and I wanted to have a quiet drink in the shade to protect the children from the heat. We sat at a large table under a tree. Within minutes, a staff member came to force us to pay and leave, simply because we were sitting at a "large table." This is outrageous, unfriendly, and absolutely unprofessional. Sending children away on such a day speaks volumes about the lack of hospitality here. We will never return and advise everyone against visiting this café. There are plenty of other places in the city where you will be treated with respect.

The lunch was delicious. Lovely location on the water. Beach vibe, great playlist, and a lovely view! Friendly service! Unfortunately, the whipped cream on the sorbet and chocolate ice cream was buttery, which was mediocre. But it's our regular annual outing when we're in Groningen. It's also a great place to sunbathe, walk, and cycle.

Nice place with open atmosphere, big table for family gathering. They also organize baby shower party. You can also sit at self-cocktail service area with hawaii vibe.

Nice place to enjoy food and view

We had a delicious meal and then enjoyed the view from the terrace by the water.

It was ok, however I find the food, as with many waterfront establishments, rather overrated.

This afternoon we sat on the waterfront terrace, where there were loads of wasps, lounge sets covered in cobwebs, and you had to put up the parasol yourself. We ordered a large drinks platter, but it was a bit disappointing compared to previous visits. Ordering everything online is very impersonal. My daughter ordered a cocktail and it was full of ants. We did get a new one, but it was way too strong. When you order Fanta, you get Sisi Zero, and we don't have Andes, and not Coca-Cola, but Pepsi. This time it was a really bad experience, and we won't be repeating it. P.S. The waterfront terrace was poorly maintained, with green-stained furniture and windows.

I found it very impersonal, and the staff was very curt. Typical Dutch "hospitality" that I normally only experience in the Randstad.

I hadn't been there in years, so I decided to give this beautiful location a try. The view is amazing. It was quite busy. The table we were supposed to be at hadn't been cleaned... that's possible. The menu... lots of vegetarian options, meat, fish, something for everyone... the eggplant roasted in yogurt sauce with fries... well... I wouldn't choose that again; the eggplant wasn't cooked... The prices are exorbitant, but that's true everywhere, unfortunately. The location is recommended, but perhaps lunch is better...

Customers are well looked after on the terrace—perhaps almost too well. After our food arrived and we'd barely taken one bite, we were already asked how it was to our liking. Fortunately, after a few bites, we could still say the food was excellent! The location is special, and the beach club vibe works well.

I booked a high tea for a baby shower. Initially, they forgot to write down my reservation, but luckily I checked the day before to make sure they hadn't forgotten. Someone in our reservation for eight people had dietary requirements. I emailed about it that morning, asking if we could order a separate dish for this person. Upon arrival, they were very inflexible about this, saying they'd prepare everything the night before. So we were told we'd still have to pay for eight people plus the extra dish. I've never experienced this before, and the dishes weren't particularly exciting. In fact, compared to other high teas I've been to in the past, it was very sparse, with few savory snacks and tiny cakes. Finally, no one ever came to check if the tea was finished, even though it was quiet and I constantly saw the bar staff doing nothing. In short, I'd recommend finding a different venue if you're planning a high tea.

Perhaps a little extra atmosphere here and there?

It was very nice. The staff also spoke some German. A bit expensive. Over €15 for a 🍔.

A very mediocre restaurant. I come here regularly; it's great for a beer or some "brown fruit," and there's usually nothing wrong with it. I've ordered most of the menu by now. But the food is and remains soulless; they can even make a burger so bad you'll stop eating it halfway through. I've mentioned this regularly, and nothing changes. It's a real shame; hopefully, they'll do something about it. The location is very nice and pleasant, especially when the sun is shining.

A few days ago, we had drinks outside. The terrace is really cozy and has a real Ibiza vibe. I hadn't been there in a while, so I was quite surprised. The cushions were quite wet, so there wasn't anywhere to sit. You could also order via QR code, but because I couldn't figure it out, I walked inside. It took a while before they came with the order, and only the manager could ask if we could set up a parasol. The hostess greeted us kindly, but the waitresses didn't seem very friendly, a bit bored. My lemon drink arrived without a lemon, and 20 minutes later the manager arrived to set up the parasol. Well, that took too long, so I sat somewhere else. I also thought it was a shame that smoking is allowed on the terrace. I understand that it's nice for smokers, but not for us, so we moved again. We enjoyed it, but I'll choose a different spot next time.

It's our regular place to dine out. With our family, together, and with friends.

The food was excellent, delicious, but it was very annoying that my order arrived much too late. We were dining with four people, and three orders were delivered. We were waiting for the last one, but unfortunately, it didn't arrive. The other guests were already eating because their meals were getting cold. We had already told them we were missing a menu. It took quite a while for the last menu to arrive. The other guests had already finished their food, and one guest at the table was allowed to continue eating. It was very unpleasant and very unpleasant. They apologized several times; it had happened, and I expressed my displeasure. When we paid, we didn't have to pay for the menu in question, which we thought was very kind. I hope for their sake that this is a one-off, and I wish them well with their future work at Kaap Hoorn. It's a beautiful location, too.

After being told we could choose a spot, it took fifteen minutes for someone to come and take our order, and that was because we asked. When ordering, I indicated I had a wheat intolerance, so I inquired about what was and wasn't acceptable. We worked it out after discussing it. When it arrived, it was still different than agreed upon. I pointed this out, and was snapped at with the response: "Yeah, fries aren't gluten-free, are they?" I explained that I knew that (there were traces of it) and that it didn't matter; I'm not allergic. She then pointed out that her colleague hadn't mentioned this, and as she said this, she walked away. Very unusual. Fortunately, it was resolved later, but I find the way they handled it highly unprofessional in the hospitality industry.

I'm surprised everyone's raving about Kaap Hoorn. For me, the definition of a beach club is a beautiful terrace with a view of the water and a relaxed atmosphere. Upon entering, you're already forced to wait in line to be shown to a table, which they decide. There, you're crammed together at a table with glass walls and parasols. You can't see the water, and it's boiling hot. When we asked if we could sit downstairs by the water—because there's plenty of room there with nice benches—they were difficult. I had to pay first, and then I could sit there. I could order there with a QR code and then pick it up. When you want to pay, you then have to wait in a long line again, which is impossible with the waitstaff. I've seen plenty of beach clubs, but with Kaap Hoorn, I don't get the "water/view" feeling at all; it's just an assembly line with impersonal staff.

We had a wonderful summer afternoon/evening on the terrace at Kaap Hoorn! The food was delicious, and the service was friendly and fast. Excellent!

Cape Boom Boom ‼️ This business has been causing serious noise pollution for years. According to the owner, everything is according to the rules and the neighborhood shouldn't complain. What an antisocial attitude. I wonder if the owner would also appreciate it if his neighbors caused so much trouble. The municipality allows him to go off the rails three times a year. The low bass, in particular, is a disaster; you can hear it for miles. The municipality forgets that it doesn't stop at those three days. Every establishment can get additional permits. But Cape Boom takes the cake when it comes to nuisance. Suppose a large number of people reserved a table at Cape Boom and canceled at the last minute, what would the owner think? Everything, of course, was perfectly in accordance with the rules. Just a business risk. ——————— On August 31, 2024, it happened again. Sitting in the garden in beautiful weather, there was constant booming from 3 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. A beautiful summer evening was gone. The low bass is especially awful. No one answers the phone. Who cares if children and the elderly can't sleep and have to close all the windows despite the heat? We live a few kilometers from Cape Boom Boom, as the crow flies, and even with all the windows and doors closed, we still hear the noise. I can't make it any better. ———————— Saturday, July 12, 2025. Drama. They don't answer the phone. You can report noise pollution to the municipality, but they can only be reached on weekdays. From 3 p.m. onward, the drone continued constantly. You can still hear the noise inside with headphones on. A beautiful summer day gone.

As for the food it was delicious. Location great. Staff friendly. However I do feel cheated when it comes to the drinks. Bottles and glasses have become smaller and the prices higher. I had a fresh orange juice see photo. Not even a sip of it for €4.50. It was at most 4 sips. I did say it but the waitress couldn't do anything with it she said.

Kaap Hoorn is one of those places where it is always nice when the sun is shining a little. The terrace is great and you can really sit there by the water. Please note: when the weather is nice, you really need to make a reservation, otherwise you are guaranteed to be waiting in line at the counter for a while. It is nice for drinks, although I find the dinner a bit less special in terms of taste and presentation. Also striking: not every waitress can take orders. All in all, it is a nice place to relax and have a drink or a bite to eat.

Young staff who are not trained. Not guest-oriented. Make a lot of noise in the place where they clear, throw cutlery, move chairs hard which causes noise pollution. I found the menu mediocre with regard to the main courses. Location is really beautiful.

The location is really nice, especially the terrace on the lake. The food is ok. However, the service is absolutely terrible. Not a smile, very hostile when you ask questions, not dog friendly. Wanted to grab a bowl to let the dogs drink and they basically yelled at us. They will never see us again as customers

Kaap Hoorn is always cozy when the weather is nice. Not every waitress can also take orders for food and/or snacks, which is special. The drinks bites are nice, but I don't think the dinner as a meal is very special. If the temperature is nice, you will have to take into account that you have to make a reservation. And otherwise you will have to wait in line for a while at the counter. By the way, it is also a pity that Heineken is served, but that is ultimately personal preference. Furthermore, the place is definitely recommended if you want to relax with a drink or a snack and we come here more often and therefore definitely again!

Delicious food. Service also good, they forgot to bring the menu but the service figured it out themselves when they saw us again so I can't complain. When it's full (and it often is for a reason!) a bit noisy but not annoying and you can still hear the other person well.

Great location. They have an electronic ordering system. If you're not Dutch, you can't use it, as you need a Dutch bank account. So there was nothing to drink. Very bad.
