We had a delicious meal on the terrace at the Kaasbar. The atmosphere was great, and we received excellent service. A special compliment to Maartje: you were not only friendly and attentive, but also very relaxed and pleasant in your advice. That made the whole experience even more enjoyable. We'll definitely be back soon; hopefully, you'll be there too 😉

We travelled all the way from Groningen to experience what makes this place special (choosing the cheese as it passes in front of you on the conveyor belt). Even though we made reservations before hand, and we were 15 minutes early, when we arrived they told us that we had to sit downstairs and that the conveyor belt wasn’t working. So we had to “blindly” choose what we wanted to try. Really disappointing, I wish they would have told us before hand, otherwise we wouldn’t have travelled this weekend but on a different date.

My boyfriend and I had been trying to plan a trip to Utrecht to visit the Kaasbar for a while. Yesterday, July 26, 2025, it finally happened. We traveled two hours, so we were really looking forward to it and prepared. Unfortunately, this was by far the most disappointing restaurant experience we've had so far. We were able to get in earlier than planned, and we were very happy about that. When we arrived, we were pushed into a corner behind a group of six people, making us very difficult to see. After waiting half an hour, we were finally allowed to place our first order, which was also our last, but we didn't know that at the time. We then asked to be seated elsewhere, as this felt a bit like a damned corner. We got a table outside and quickly received our first drinks and four cheeses. The cheeses were delicious, thankfully, but they were the only ones we received in two hours. Almost no one else was taking orders outside, even though the restaurant wasn't full and there were more than five staff members. To the annoyance of the people next to and behind us, we were all forgotten. When someone appeared outside after more than half an hour, our neighbors asked for the bill, and we followed suit. When the staff member asked us how we'd enjoyed our evening, we politely indicated that we were disappointed with the overall experience (except for the cheeses). We don't think this was what she was expecting. She reacted rather indifferently and sheepishly. A reaction that, as a guest, is completely useless. Our advice to future visitors: spend your money at a place where both the food and the service are good.

This was my second time at this place after two years of my first visit. And the service quality really went down. Nobody explained us how the concept of the bar works. Our order was partially forgotten twice, so we had to wait extra long for some dishes. The cheese taste and the pairing to it was excellent though. I can’t not mention the toilets - all walls are completely covered in black mould and it smells horrible there. There was no soap to wash your hands with either. Very mixed feelings after visiting this place. Not sure if I’d recommend if to anyone.

After hearing good things about the Cheese Bar, we specifically planned a day trip to Utrecht just to eat there, as we had a two-hour drive to get there. Upon arrival, we were placed in a corner where we were difficult to see and reach. After waiting for half an hour without any contact, we asked if it was possible to sit somewhere else, as we had already realized this would be a problem and hadn't yet been addressed. Fortunately, we were given a table outside. Our order was taken immediately: four cheeses and two drinks. We received these within 15 minutes. The quality of the cheeses was excellent, and we really enjoyed them. We really wanted to order another round of cheeses, but no one from the staff came out to give them to us, much to the dismay of others on the terrace. After waiting, waiting, and even more waiting (an hour later), someone finally came out to give the bill to our neighbors. We immediately asked for the bill as well. When paying, we were asked if everything was to our liking. We replied that the cheeses were good, but that we'd only consumed 4(!) cheeses and 2 drinks in 2 hours because the service wasn't there. The response was somewhat sheepish. What should have been a fun day in Utrecht for us was left with a bad taste in our mouths by this utterly terrible experience at the Cheese Bar. The cheese is good, but for service, you're better off getting it from the cheesemonger yourself. We won't be back.

Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Kaasbar Utrecht could have been a great last supper for me and my group - sadly it ended our trip together on a bad note. The cheese itself taste good and is delicate, and it’s a plus you have a big selection of different cheeses and toppings to choose from. However, the service was for us during our visit was exceptionally bad - I cannot remember the last time it was this poor. Getting a tiny piece of overpriced slice of cheese took over an hour. We entered a little early and was told we could not get our table earlier than our booked time which was 17:00 - which is very fair and ok. However when we come back we were given the same exact table that was already free when we first arrived - strange, but ok. Then we were essentially left and forgotten. The waiters came over 15 minutes later with menus and we, after asking, was promised to be put at the bar instead which we were told «would not take long» - it took over 20-30 minutes and in the end we weren’t given it. We ordered 3 drinks where they forgot 1 of them. We were switched to sit downstairs and that took longer as well. When the waiter finally after 45 minutes took our order he managed to forget and mix 1 of them where we hastily had to correct him so we wouldn’t get something we didn’t order. All this also happened to at least 3 other tables during our tables and the place wasn’t even that busy - the other tables waited a long time to be acknowledged, to order and they also forgot another table’s order and the waiters didn’t communicate between themselves. Then 15-20 minutes after ordering 3 tiny plates of sliced cheese we finally got them. They tasted nice, but the vibe and whole experience was totally ruined and the price is not absolutely justifiable - it is all rather overpriced. Then when we wanted to pay and split since we are 3 different nationalities with different payment apps and cards - this was not ok for them. But after telling them we could do their job for them by doing the math of splitting each order they agreed - strange to refuse to split when the system allows it, especially after so many errors and delays. In the end this was a bad experience, we hoped it would be amazing and had high expectations after reading the reviews. However it wasn’t, you can’t win it all. 2/5, would not recommend unless they change their routines.

Enjoyed a lot of delicious cheeses. Really a super fun place to go!

Until now "missed" but now found and simply enjoyed. Delicious choice of cheese and accessories (remoudou with fig bread as a starter); further delicious toasted sandwiches in abundance (I had truffle cheese). Recommended for taste and super service with explanation. We were lucky with a place on the canal.

Honestly, this might have been the best dining experience of my life. The selection is amazing, the service very attentive, and the idea of ​​a cheese cart alone…needless to say. It might seem a bit pricey to some, but it's absolutely worth it!

Every single thing about this place was lovely. As cheese lovers, we were eager to learn and try as much as we could about Dutch cheese culture. The cheese selection we had was spectacular, the wine list too 👌🏻 and the girl who served us was informative and super nice. An amazing experience

Had dinner at the cheese bar last night and what an experience that was! If you like cheese you have to go here. The cheese and drinks are matched to each other...2 menu cards allow you to create your own ultimate taste sensation. We had a cheese board for 2 people with a selection of cheeses and delicious crackers. The flavors I tasted yesterday in combination with toppings were unique. Excellent service Top food Nice beautiful thing Good matching wine In short, visit us sometime!

I don't know many comparable restaurants and it is difficult to compare. My daughter treated me for my birthday. Very sweet and, like me, she loves cheese. Well, here you can indulge yourself. The range consists of 25 Dutch cheeses, ranging in number from mild to strong. Offered via a conveyor belt or via order if your preference is just not met. All this accompanied by recommended wines. Personally, I liked the white port the best. Staff is attentive and involved. The concept is expensive, but you get excellent cheeses for that. Not a restaurant to visit every week, but the place to treat yourself if cheese is a delicacy for you.

A cheese lover's paradise! I recently had the pleasure of visiting De Kaasbar in Utrecht, and I can say with certainty that it was a fantastic experience! This place is a true paradise for cheese lovers. From the moment you step in, you are welcomed by the wonderful smells of freshly cut cheeses and a warm, cozy atmosphere. The interior is tastefully decorated and contributes to the cozy ambiance of the bar. The selection of cheeses is truly impressive! From local specialties to international favorites, there is something for everyone. I enjoyed a cheese board with a selection of different types of cheeses, each with its own unique taste and texture. The employees are extremely knowledgeable and friendly; they gave me excellent advice about the best combinations and matching wines. De Kaasbar also offers delicious side dishes, such as fresh bread, chutneys and nuts, which pair perfectly with the cheeses. The combination of flavors was simply delicious! In short, De Kaasbar is a must-visit for anyone who loves cheese. Whether you want a quick bite or an extensive tasting, this place exceeds all expectations. I can't wait to return and explore more of their delicious cheeses!

I've eaten here several times and each time I really enjoyed the various cheeses, the concept and the drinks (their iced tea, highly recommended!). Service is slow and sometimes a bit sloppy (forgotten things, receipt is incorrect), but the employees are all very enthusiastic and nice, so for me this does not detract from the experience at all. In addition, it makes a difference that you can grab your own cheese from the conveyor belt, haha! Hope to come here many more times!

Black mould on the walls and nothing was refilled at 8.30pm. Unfortunately, the prices are also overpriced. A glass of red wine for €9 and a bowl of lovelessly arranged cheese for €8 is a far cry from reality. Employees are only on their mobile phones. Worst restaurant I've ever been to in my life.

The Cheese Bar in Utrecht is great for cheese lovers! Wonderfully varied cheese boards, perfectly combined with matching wines and beers. The atmosphere is cozy, the service friendly and the prices fair. A must-visit if you love cheese! 🧀🍷

Nice concept. We were there for 2 hours, during which 6 different cheeses were brought around because the waitresses were on their cell phones half the time and didn't feel like preparing anything. Very unfortunate. If you're going to spend almost 10 euros on a small piece of cheese, then it should at least be in the waitress's interest to offer the guests the promised experience. But the cheese was very tasty, it's just a shame that in the end you had to order it from the menu because the cheese was on the roundabout until someone finally took it - because there were almost no new ones. Also interesting to mention is that I have never seen such moldy toilets and walls in my life. I'm still not sure if the mold was real or "decorative". So we won't go there again.

We were there on Tuesday evening and the four of us got a place on the treadmill even without a reservation. Very tasty cheese combinations and matching wines. The location is definitely worth a visit. Super nice staff...a very successful evening.

Lots of cheeses to choose from, nice that the cheeses were at room temperature which improves the taste. The garnishes with the cheeses were also very tasty. The service was great, because she helped us choose the cheeses, beautiful view of the Cathedral. 1 point of attention is that the map is difficult to read in RED light. It was also quite intense to be in an intense cheese smell so maybe something can be done about that. All in all, highly recommended if you like cheese.

Nice concept, fun on the assembly line upstairs. Pleasant service. There really is an urgent need for maintenance downstairs. The toilet room in particular needs immediate maintenance, which is unfortunately not possible, but given the previous comments here, it should be given priority. Hence a few fewer stars, further concept and development are very nice.

Great cheese, a little expensive. It’s a fun and unique place, with a beer and wine pairing for every cheese. Great place for a date and I really enjoyed that all of the cheeses are from the Netherlands. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

The concept is fun and the cheese is of good quality. The dishes are small. You need at least 2.5 dishes for lunch/dinner. Unfortunately, sometimes components are missing from the dishes that are mentioned on the menu. Maybe that's because of the crowds, but still. The restaurant is small and somewhat messy. Made me extremely nauseous from this cheese, not worth the money at all. The music was also turned up extra loud, while my girlfriend and I still wanted to have a drink. We were the last in the restaurant, around half past 11, so not close to closing time. We were really looked away and could barely hear each other. I don't think that is customer friendly

What a deception! Even though we had made a reservation, after waiting completely ignored for 10 minutes in the restaurant, we were not allowed to sit down after asking 1 lady from the service and when a table became available at the same time, close to the bar. The lady in question said that was for a reservation. What are we then, I asked... yes, no, you will sit downstairs. There was no better explanation... Down an impossibly narrow staircase where a room WITHOUT a cheese bar, atmosphereless and sad and without any ambiance awaits you and there you should get a beautiful cheese bar experience... This space completely detracts from the expectations we had of an atmospheric drink at the cheese bar. Treating your guests in this way is truly a no-go for us! An absolute letdown. Fortunately, we were able to make up for the evening at a beautiful wine bar on the Neude where, despite a very busy atmosphere, we were warmly received by the staff and we really enjoyed beautiful wines with delicious cheeses. We had made a reservation at the fondue bar. Very tasty cheese fondue but to our dismay the rest of the basement and the toilets looked terrible and covered in black mold. I don't understand how food can be served here. In addition, we were put at a bar and had very loud people next to us. This spoiled the atmosphere a bit for us because of all the noise. Nice concept, but the mold was really terrible. If this is not resolved, we will unfortunately not return here.

We reserved a cheese fondue at the cheese bar. Upon arrival it turned out to be served in the cellar. We are shocked by the condition of the basement. A really unhealthy climate, completely black with mold. The cheese fondue itself was a small portion of cheese served with dehydrated vegetables. Very mediocre! Within 40 minutes of arrival we were ready with the fondue and we could pay..

Tried to make a reservation for a group of colleagues, but I had to send an email to a different email address than the regular one. I did not receive an answer and after calling 4 times, I finally received a response that a place could only be reserved from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (the reservation was only for 2 months). When asked if it was possible to stay a little longer, because I wouldn't like it if we were sent away after 2 hours, I have still not received an answer to this day, so we are just looking. gone to an alternative. We werden vriendelijk ontvangen, we hadden niet gereserveerd maar er was nog een plekje aan de bar (lopende band) Echt super gaaf! Als je er gaat eten, ga aan de band zitten. Bediening was aardig en legde alles goed uit. De kaasjes waren heerlijk, prima porties en veel verschillende keuzes. Helaas was de kelder (waar de wc was) goor, overal schimmel, niet hygienisch! Dit maakte het bezoek toch minder plezierig..

We loved the Kaasbar! It’s very reasonably priced, has kind and helpful service, and delicious cheese dishes! It’s fun to pick from the conveyor belt and allows for you to see some cheeses before deciding which to take. Also the interior has a cozy feel and has a view of the beautiful Dom tower. We had a delicious meal at the Cheese Bar in Utrecht. For true cheese lovers, the menu is definitely worth it and we would recommend the restaurant in that regard. However, we found the atmosphere a bit disappointing. We got a seat downstairs at the bar, where unfortunately the conveyor belt was not working. That can of course happen, but for us this really detracted from the experience, because the conveyor belt is part of the concept. We also regularly saw a cat on the bar and the walls and ceilings near the toilet and the seating area to the left of the bar were full of black mold. All in all, not a very healthy environment for a festive dinner. The staff was correct, but didn't seem very enthusiastic about their product.

The Kaasbar offers a range of cheeses presented creatively, often on a "sushi belt" that lets guests choose from an array of cheese selections as they pass by. Reservations are a must, overal the experience has been great.

As many say 'nice concept'. But also real! Very relaxed and pleasant to grab your own cheese from the conveyor belt at the bar. Everything was explained clearly and hospitably in advance by the blond boy who works there. All cheeses are well described on the menu with matching drinks. The combinations are also really surprisingly tasty. Cheese with ginger.. Delicious! We accidentally picked up the wrong cheese because there were different numbers on the front and back of the label. That is very confusing. Maybe do something about that. But, this was resolved because we were allowed to exchange the cheese with another one free of charge. 👍🏻

Fabulous cheeses with good pairings

Tasty cheeses, nice atmosphere. It's a pity that if you book months in advance you will still be tucked away in a corner downstairs in the basement and you will not be allowed to sit at the band upstairs.

The cheeses were super tasty. Unfortunately the service was a little less pleasant. We had to signal ourselves all the time to order something because they didn't come by. They were not super friendly and we were sent away 20 minutes before the end of our time slot, even though we would have liked to have another coffee. They also didn't come to record a final round. We got a bit of a mass at the cash register feeling from this, which is a shame.

We had fun here and as an experience / novelty I would recommend it for the entertainment of the cheese conveyor belt. However, the cheese we had wasn't that special. It was okay. So for that reason we wouldn't go back, unless we wanted to entertain guests to the city!

Absolutely recommended. There were four of us in the Kaasbar and we weren't quite sure what to expect there. We were impressed from start to finish by the good service, the well-prepared cheese and the excellent taste. Last but not least, Jose, the bartender, made the evening a unique experience with sensational cocktails and great advice. We will come back next time we visit Utrecht.

Love this bar, very nice decor and delicious drinks

Really tasty cheeses and nice combinations. However, sitting downstairs was a lot less cozy than upstairs (no conveyor belt with cheeses, you look straight into the dishes, no Boska cutlery, music too soft, etc.) It is difficult to determine what you can expect from the cheeses if you cannot see them and there is no description on the card.

Wine selection is great, cheeses were delicious and interesting. We sat at the bar and it was great because there was a wide selection of selection rolling around. Portions were a good size and the wines and other bits were nice quality too.

Great place for a cheese lover. The quality of the cheeses is high and the creations are special (good). A seat at the bar is a must. In terms of staff, one seems to be more interested in it than the other, that difference is big and is a shame to experience. Furthermore, the pace at which the cheeses appear on the belt also depends entirely on the 'cheese cutter'. This week the tempo was so slow that the band was empty for a large part of the evening. You can always order cheeses from the menu, but that takes away the concept. Super cool place, but it could be so much better if they paid more attention to Service.

2nd time at this cheese bar in Utrecht. While the first time was super good, today was a disappointment and this was the very last time at this cheese bar. Good experience in Amsterdam, hopefully it will remain good. We got a table downstairs by the water. Then you think NICE! Unfortunately, the service was more busy upstairs than downstairs and we always had to wait a long time before someone came. I even placed my order upstairs once. In addition, there were no grapes, and there were a lot of cheeses, at least 5! sold out. I think, what if you can't realize your concept on Sunday? then stay closed! Unfortunately..... Ps. The toilet could also use a makeover.

Super tasty, creative pairings with the cheeses, good quality, cozy and friendly service. Suggestion: an alcohol-free wine on the menu would have made the experience even better.

Cheese fondue with three people. Unfortunately it was not possible to order multiple types of cheese fondue, a pity that this was not clearly indicated in advance. Portions were scandalously small and the garnish was very poor. One small pan to share between the three of us. We were outside again in 45 minutes. When we returned this story at the checkout, she thanked us for the feedback. Annoying ending, because the concept is so strong. In short, food is tasty but portions too small. Price/quality ratio is extremely out of balance, so be prepared to have to get fries afterwards. In addition, the service was really terrible and not hospitable at all. It's a shame to see that it is indeed difficult to find good staff these days. Update The error was admitted after much effort, but since then it has been impossible to contact us for a suitable solution.

Had a wonderful experience on my visit here. They have a cool concept of cheese tasting and offers a cozy ambient. You got to choose any cheese you want from their 25 different type of cheese and they will give you a plate of free toast (crackers) to go with the cheese. Lots of drinks options as well. And all of the staffs are super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

Super fun concept with delicious cheeses and matching wines (or beers)!

At first glance, 49 euros for a cheese platter with 5 types of cheese seems excessively expensive. But the cheese platter was very lovingly prepared and all types of cheese were very tasty, so I would say: the price is still reasonable. The concept is innovative and exciting, the atmosphere is cool, the service is okay, but some of the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. Even though we were the first guests in the evening, we had to wait over half an hour for the cheese. The toilets are not suitable for people with disabilities and are located down in the basement behind a very steep staircase. Some of the walls in the basement are moldy. Overall 4/5 stars. 1 star deduction for the toilet.

Most disappointing experience in Utrecht. We were really looking forward to the reservation and the “cheese on the production line”. Unfortunately we weren't seated in the main part of the bar, but were the only ones in the lower part next to the scullery at the excuse of a treadmill counter. The lighting concept with huge pink lamps is questionable - you can't read the menu and the cheese doesn't look particularly appealing under the light. On the band itself there were only a few cheese bells, mostly with strong cheeses that should only be enjoyed at the end of an evening. We ate four plates from the conveyor belt and ordered four more cheese combinations from the overwhelmed waitress. It's a shame, we were hoping to be able to look at the cheeses on the production line and then decide. The tape was only refilled after almost an hour when we gave up in frustration. Long waiting times and exorbitant prices for untempered cheese. Other bars and restaurants with a similar concept can do this much better.

"Trendy" cozy place where you can eat cheese. There are about 25 different cheeses, divided into 4 types and increasing in strength. We opted for the appetizer board with 7 cheeses. This was enough for 2 people for dinner. The cheeses include pairing options for drinks. The service was friendly! Definitely a great place for cheese lovers.

Fun place to try local cheeses. The sushi boat concept was fun but we ordered the 7 cheese plate, it was delicious but a bit too much food for two. Still glad we ordered it because we were able to try more types of cheeses. The staff was friendly and the presentation of the meal was beautiful.

We ate delicious cheeses with matching wines. The boy with the cap had a super friendly and hospitable appearance, he made our day. Too bad the rest of the staff seemed less interested. That detracts from the beautiful thing.

Excellent place! Spectacular cheeses in perfect combination with different magics such as: dried figs, walnuts, almonds, aceto reduction, pears, etc. The dishes parade along a conveyor belt and you can see the different options that you read on the menu. The system seemed great to me!

Delicious food, service was good until the end. At the end of the evening, friends of the staff came in and kept turning the music up or down. Then we paid and just as we were walking out the door we heard “fuck off” and the door was slammed shut. Never seen such unprofessional staff!

Fun atmosphere and good variety of cheeses.

You can eat delicious cheese there but also have good drinks. The service is very polite and the cheese fondue in the basement is also recommended.

Friendly welcomed by two young ladies. The concept was clearly explained to us after which we could get started. A seat at the bar is a must! The cheese plates are delicious... we have not paired them with wine or beer. Highly recommended for cheese lovers visiting Utrecht!

The bar appears to be run by students. Perhaps it would be a good idea to also appoint someone with a management role to the bar. The concept falls apart because there were only a few cheeses on the belt. As a result, you have to order all cheeses from the staff. Unfortunately, the staff is very busy with themselves (using the phone, having a nice chat). The wine glasses were also empty and the white wine glass was rinsed for the red wine. The glassware had not dried and the drops were still running down the glass. Also had to ask for dinner plates. All in all, the cheeses were delicious in combination with the wines, but the rest was disappointing.
