The basic idea is good, but the execution could be way better. The portions are huge, which means that if you go for dinner the two of you, you will most likely only be able to try 2–3 types of cheese out of the more than 23 options available. That is rather unfortunate. The cheeses arrive beautifully presented on plates covered with elegant glass domes, but this becomes quite impractical when the service is slow and the empty plates, along with their large glass covers, are not cleared from the table promptly.

I have to give it one star... but this restaurant deserves zero! We made a reservation for 8:30 pm, which was confirmed by email. When we arrived at 8:30 pm, the waitress told us the kitchen was closed! In 2026, not even bothering to send a message or email to let us know and barely apologizing for the inconvenience is truly unpleasant. Our daughter was looking forward to this cheese bar experience; we'll go elsewhere.

A really nice concept; something very different from other places in the city. Delicious cheeses and a very wide selection. If I have to mention a downside, it is the portion size. There were two of us; if you mainly want to sample different cheeses, the portions are large. Large enough for 3 or 4 people. I will solve that by going with more people next time ;-). Besides the cheese, there is a wide selection of wines, port, and the like.

Nice concept and tasty cheeses, but the toilet area is so moldy and black that I thought it was a joke because of the moldy cheeses. It really can't be healthy, and this spoils the rest of the experience a bit.

For cheese lovers, a very nice experience; it's great that the menu also indicates which wine or beer pairs well with the cheese. Inside, it's really fun how the plates of cheese are passed around the bar! Do note, however, that reservations are often required for this! All in all, we had a delicious meal!

It looked very nice in the photos, but in real life it was a bit run-down and dirty. We were sitting amidst leftovers and crumbs of cheese. The restaurant wasn't busy, but we were only allowed to sit at the low table because there supposedly wasn't enough room at the bar, even though there was plenty of room... not a single piece of cheese passed by on the conveyor belt! Not all evening. The waitress seemed stressed and rushed, and was snappy. The bread was gone and the cheeses were mediocre.

Delicious cheeses with tasty garnishes. The only downside is that some portions were on the small side for the price, but it was absolutely delicious!

Here you can enjoy various delicious types of cheese. The cheeses pass by numbered on a conveyor belt. This allows you to check the menu to see what kind of cheese it is and what tasty accompaniments are included. All while enjoying a nice (matching) drink. That is true enjoyment in the heart of Utrecht.

The cheese and wine were delicious. Nice concept too. At one point, we were asked to leave because the table was needed for a new reservation. However, we were still fully enjoying our food and drinks. An end time should have been mentioned with the reservation. Unfortunately, this really spoiled the experience for me.

The cheese fondue is tasty. Good flavor and the portion was sufficient for us. You can simply order bread on the side. We are average eaters. The downside is that you sit on a bar stool at the bar. We finished eating within an hour. Because the seating is uncomfortable, we decided to go elsewhere for dessert. I like the concept, but it is quite pricey. For 27.50 per person, I had expected a bit more.

Really great fun to do with friends/family. You do have to be a cheese lover, but it's very enjoyable. The cheeses and combinations are very tasty.

A really fun concept, an extensive menu, and good cheeses. We got a nice spot at the bar, so you can see everything passing by and grab whatever catches your eye. If your cheese isn't on the conveyor belt at that moment, you can also order it from the ladies. If you are a cheese lover, you definitely have to go here!

Went there for the first time yesterday. It's a lovely place, and definitely a unique spot for cheese lovers. There's a good selection of cheeses, and it's great that everything is Dutch. Unfortunately, there are two things that aren't great. 1. The pink menu is literally unreadable in the red light. I heard several people complaining about this at the bar. The staff said this had been a known complaint for a while, and that they'd hopefully be updating the menus soon, but why wait so long? This complaint was already known on day one of the menu's introduction? Not hospitable... 2. The red wines are served too warm. The wines on the menu are nice, but quite expensive, which isn't a problem, as long as the wine comes from a climate-controlled wine cellar. I'd be worried if you ordered a red wine there in the height of summer; it could easily be 22-23 degrees Celsius. Our wine was on the verge of being returned, considering the temperature (in March). Don't order red wine here in the summer without a climate-controlled wine cellar! I really don't understand this choice, as these are premium prices and premium (regional) products that are served.

The cheese fondue was marvelous! And it was surely enough veggies and bread to accomodate with it. But however it took about 40min to be prepared/served and we had to ask for the menu, the drinks and the food ourselves. I would say the service could have been better.

The waitress that attended us was SO RUDE. The girl with the blond hair with a bun did a completely disaster of service. Weird faces everytime we asked for something and laughing while hiding. A complete rude human being and a disaster of waitress. She even tried to make us add a tip without telling. Defenetly would not recommend it to anyone to go there.

A lovely evening with delicious cheeses! 🧀 The wines were also superb and there was plenty to choose from. It's a shame, though, that the cheeses came straight from the refrigerator without being taken off the conveyor belt, making them too cold. At the right temperature, the flavors would have been even more pronounced.

So wonderful. We come from Central Brabant a few times a year to celebrate Father's Day. Wonderful!

You have to make a reservation for the cheese fondue (separate from your regular reservation), so it's helpful to keep an eye on it. Even though there was a lot of it, the food was truly delicious, definitely recommended.

Nice place, but the service is terrible! We had a reservation until 7 p.m., but we received the bill at 6:40 p.m. without asking, and by 6:50 p.m., we were practically told to leave. Not very polite or hospitable. The concept is nice, but the hospitality staff could do with some retraining.

This was a real surprise. I got here just as a coincidence, and I love coincidences. A sushi-train style restaurant for Dutch cheeses? You’ve got it! It is elegant but simple It is stylish but relaxed It is good but it is GOOD! Just take the cheese dishes you want and that’s it! The only “bad thing” was that the waiter was a little rude (something not common in the Netherlands) and that I had to wait more than 20 minutes for a Negroni 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you love cheese and you like to try different cheeses paired with wines or beers then you’ll be in heaven in Kaasbar. Plus the cheese (not sushi) train is amazing!

We had a delicious meal downstairs at the bar. Even though we were a group of six, they placed us on the corner, so we could still chat with everyone without missing the conveyor belt experience. Delicious cheeses and lovely side dish combinations. Because we were with a group, we were able to sample many cheeses, which I highly recommend!

What a lovely place! We were there on a Thursday evening; it wasn't too busy, but it was cozy. The service was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is very atmospheric and the decor is uniquely 80s. And the most unusual feature is the conveyor belt with cheese domes—so funny. And the food was truly delicious. They have an extensive drinks menu, but we missed a kombucha or water kefir for our non-alcoholic guests. Otherwise, highly recommended!

Poor hygiene and service. We got seated at a dirty table with food leftovers (it had clearly not been wiped down). The waiters forgot to bring us glass for our water and utensils for our food. They also did not clean up after other guests, e.g., leaving their dirty utensils lying next to us for the remainder of the evening. The food was otherwise fine, but really poor value for the cost. Would definitely not eat there again.

Are you a cheese lover with a day to spend in Utrecht? You must visit this place! On Sunday evening, there were plenty of vacant seats and an absolutely empty underground level. But for Thursday and Friday evenings, it’s better to book in advance. However, it’s a good idea to mention where you’d like to sit: • Ground floor: brighter, with a view or at the bar, • Underground: it’s darker, with no fancy running cheeses, • A small patio by the water, • Veranda. Oh, and the cheeses are great—there are plenty of fancy ones brought from different places! Don’t forget to order some veggies or crackers to pair with them.

We had a delicious meal on the terrace at the Kaasbar. The atmosphere was great, and we received excellent service. A special compliment to Maartje: you were not only friendly and attentive, but also very relaxed and pleasant in your advice. That made the whole experience even more enjoyable. We travelled all the way from Groningen to experience what makes this place special (choosing the cheese as it passes in front of you on the conveyor belt). Even though we made reservations before hand, and we were 15 minutes early, when we arrived they told us that we had to sit downstairs and that the conveyor belt wasn’t working. So we had to “blindly” choose what we wanted to try. Really disappointing, I wish they would have told us before hand, otherwise we wouldn’t have travelled this weekend but on a different date.

My boyfriend and I had been trying to plan a trip to Utrecht to visit the Kaasbar for a while. Yesterday, July 26, 2025, it finally happened. We traveled two hours, so we were really looking forward to it and prepared. Unfortunately, this was by far the most disappointing restaurant experience we've had so far. We were able to get in earlier than planned, and we were very happy about that. When we arrived, we were pushed into a corner behind a group of six people, making us very difficult to see. After waiting half an hour, we were finally allowed to place our first order, which was also our last, but we didn't know that at the time. We then asked to be seated elsewhere, as this felt a bit like a damned corner. We got a table outside and quickly received our first drinks and four cheeses. The cheeses were delicious, thankfully, but they were the only ones we received in two hours. Almost no one else was taking orders outside, even though the restaurant wasn't full and there were more than five staff members. To the annoyance of the people next to and behind us, we were all forgotten. When someone appeared outside after more than half an hour, our neighbors asked for the bill, and we followed suit. When the staff member asked us how we'd enjoyed our evening, we politely indicated that we were disappointed with the overall experience (except for the cheeses). We don't think this was what she was expecting. She reacted rather indifferently and sheepishly. A reaction that, as a guest, is completely useless. Our advice to future visitors: spend your money at a place where both the food and the service are good.

This was my second time at this place after two years of my first visit. And the service quality really went down. Nobody explained us how the concept of the bar works. Our order was partially forgotten twice, so we had to wait extra long for some dishes. The cheese taste and the pairing to it was excellent though. I can’t not mention the toilets - all walls are completely covered in black mould and it smells horrible there. There was no soap to wash your hands with either. Very mixed feelings after visiting this place. Not sure if I’d recommend if to anyone.

After hearing good things about the Cheese Bar, we specifically planned a day trip to Utrecht just to eat there, as we had a two-hour drive to get there. Upon arrival, we were placed in a corner where we were difficult to see and reach. After waiting for half an hour without any contact, we asked if it was possible to sit somewhere else, as we had already realized this would be a problem and hadn't yet been addressed. Fortunately, we were given a table outside. Our order was taken immediately: four cheeses and two drinks. We received these within 15 minutes. The quality of the cheeses was excellent, and we really enjoyed them. We really wanted to order another round of cheeses, but no one from the staff came out to give them to us, much to the dismay of others on the terrace. After waiting, waiting, and even more waiting (an hour later), someone finally came out to give the bill to our neighbors. We immediately asked for the bill as well. When paying, we were asked if everything was to our liking. We replied that the cheeses were good, but that we'd only consumed 4(!) cheeses and 2 drinks in 2 hours because the service wasn't there. The response was somewhat sheepish. What should have been a fun day in Utrecht for us was left with a bad taste in our mouths by this utterly terrible experience at the Cheese Bar. The cheese is good, but for service, you're better off getting it from the cheesemonger yourself. We won't be back.

Enjoyed a lot of delicious cheeses. Really a super fun place to go!

Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Kaasbar Utrecht could have been a great last supper for me and my group - sadly it ended our trip together on a bad note. The cheese itself taste good and is delicate, and it’s a plus you have a big selection of different cheeses and toppings to choose from. However, the service was for us during our visit was exceptionally bad - I cannot remember the last time it was this poor. Getting a tiny piece of overpriced slice of cheese took over an hour. We entered a little early and was told we could not get our table earlier than our booked time which was 17:00 - which is very fair and ok. However when we come back we were given the same exact table that was already free when we first arrived - strange, but ok. Then we were essentially left and forgotten. The waiters came over 15 minutes later with menus and we, after asking, was promised to be put at the bar instead which we were told «would not take long» - it took over 20-30 minutes and in the end we weren’t given it. We ordered 3 drinks where they forgot 1 of them. We were switched to sit downstairs and that took longer as well. When the waiter finally after 45 minutes took our order he managed to forget and mix 1 of them where we hastily had to correct him so we wouldn’t get something we didn’t order. All this also happened to at least 3 other tables during our tables and the place wasn’t even that busy - the other tables waited a long time to be acknowledged, to order and they also forgot another table’s order and the waiters didn’t communicate between themselves. Then 15-20 minutes after ordering 3 tiny plates of sliced cheese we finally got them. They tasted nice, but the vibe and whole experience was totally ruined and the price is not absolutely justifiable - it is all rather overpriced. Then when we wanted to pay and split since we are 3 different nationalities with different payment apps and cards - this was not ok for them. But after telling them we could do their job for them by doing the math of splitting each order they agreed - strange to refuse to split when the system allows it, especially after so many errors and delays. In the end this was a bad experience, we hoped it would be amazing and had high expectations after reading the reviews. However it wasn’t, you can’t win it all. 2/5, would not recommend unless they change their routines.

Until now "missed" but now found and simply enjoyed. Delicious choice of cheese and accessories (remoudou with fig bread as a starter); further delicious toasted sandwiches in abundance (I had truffle cheese). Recommended for taste and super service with explanation. We were lucky with a place on the canal.

Had dinner at the cheese bar last night and what an experience that was! If you like cheese you have to go here. The cheese and drinks are matched to each other...2 menu cards allow you to create your own ultimate taste sensation. We had a cheese board for 2 people with a selection of cheeses and delicious crackers. The flavors I tasted yesterday in combination with toppings were unique. Excellent service Top food Nice beautiful thing Good matching wine In short, visit us sometime!

I don't know many comparable restaurants and it is difficult to compare. My daughter treated me for my birthday. Very sweet and, like me, she loves cheese. Well, here you can indulge yourself. The range consists of 25 Dutch cheeses, ranging in number from mild to strong. Offered via a conveyor belt or via order if your preference is just not met. All this accompanied by recommended wines. Personally, I liked the white port the best. Staff is attentive and involved. The concept is expensive, but you get excellent cheeses for that. Not a restaurant to visit every week, but the place to treat yourself if cheese is a delicacy for you.

A cheese lover's paradise! I recently had the pleasure of visiting De Kaasbar in Utrecht, and I can say with certainty that it was a fantastic experience! This place is a true paradise for cheese lovers. From the moment you step in, you are welcomed by the wonderful smells of freshly cut cheeses and a warm, cozy atmosphere. The interior is tastefully decorated and contributes to the cozy ambiance of the bar. The selection of cheeses is truly impressive! From local specialties to international favorites, there is something for everyone. I enjoyed a cheese board with a selection of different types of cheeses, each with its own unique taste and texture. The employees are extremely knowledgeable and friendly; they gave me excellent advice about the best combinations and matching wines. De Kaasbar also offers delicious side dishes, such as fresh bread, chutneys and nuts, which pair perfectly with the cheeses. The combination of flavors was simply delicious! In short, De Kaasbar is a must-visit for anyone who loves cheese. Whether you want a quick bite or an extensive tasting, this place exceeds all expectations. I can't wait to return and explore more of their delicious cheeses!

I've eaten here several times and each time I really enjoyed the various cheeses, the concept and the drinks (their iced tea, highly recommended!). Service is slow and sometimes a bit sloppy (forgotten things, receipt is incorrect), but the employees are all very enthusiastic and nice, so for me this does not detract from the experience at all. In addition, it makes a difference that you can grab your own cheese from the conveyor belt, haha! Hope to come here many more times!

The Cheese Bar in Utrecht is great for cheese lovers! Wonderfully varied cheese boards, perfectly combined with matching wines and beers. The atmosphere is cozy, the service friendly and the prices fair. A must-visit if you love cheese! 🧀🍷

Nice concept. We were there for 2 hours, during which 6 different cheeses were brought around because the waitresses were on their cell phones half the time and didn't feel like preparing anything. Very unfortunate. If you're going to spend almost 10 euros on a small piece of cheese, then it should at least be in the waitress's interest to offer the guests the promised experience. But the cheese was very tasty, it's just a shame that in the end you had to order it from the menu because the cheese was on the roundabout until someone finally took it - because there were almost no new ones. Also interesting to mention is that I have never seen such moldy toilets and walls in my life. I'm still not sure if the mold was real or "decorative". So we won't go there again.

We were there on Tuesday evening and the four of us got a place on the treadmill even without a reservation. Very tasty cheese combinations and matching wines. The location is definitely worth a visit. Super nice staff...a very successful evening.

Lots of cheeses to choose from, nice that the cheeses were at room temperature which improves the taste. The garnishes with the cheeses were also very tasty. The service was great, because she helped us choose the cheeses, beautiful view of the Cathedral. 1 point of attention is that the map is difficult to read in RED light. It was also quite intense to be in an intense cheese smell so maybe something can be done about that. All in all, highly recommended if you like cheese.

Great cheese, a little expensive. It’s a fun and unique place, with a beer and wine pairing for every cheese. Great place for a date and I really enjoyed that all of the cheeses are from the Netherlands. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Nice concept, fun on the assembly line upstairs. Pleasant service. There really is an urgent need for maintenance downstairs. The toilet room in particular needs immediate maintenance, which is unfortunately not possible, but given the previous comments here, it should be given priority. Hence a few fewer stars, further concept and development are very nice.

The concept is fun and the cheese is of good quality. The dishes are small. You need at least 2.5 dishes for lunch/dinner. Unfortunately, sometimes components are missing from the dishes that are mentioned on the menu. Maybe that's because of the crowds, but still. The restaurant is small and somewhat messy. Loop even naar achteren waar je prachtig zicht hebt op het water. De lopende band die langs de bar loopt is een echte attractie. Superleuk hier even te zijn.

What a deception! Even though we had made a reservation, after waiting completely ignored for 10 minutes in the restaurant, we were not allowed to sit down after asking 1 lady from the service and when a table became available at the same time, close to the bar. The lady in question said that was for a reservation. What are we then, I asked... yes, no, you will sit downstairs. There was no better explanation... Down an impossibly narrow staircase where a room WITHOUT a cheese bar, atmosphereless and sad and without any ambiance awaits you and there you should get a beautiful cheese bar experience... This space completely detracts from the expectations we had of an atmospheric drink at the cheese bar. Treating your guests in this way is truly a no-go for us! An absolute letdown. Fortunately, we were able to make up for the evening at a beautiful wine bar on the Neude where, despite a very busy atmosphere, we were warmly received by the staff and we really enjoyed beautiful wines with delicious cheeses. It's a shame that the serving team in the Cheese Bar earlier that evening made such a wrong assessment and treated its guests so disrespectfully! SHS, Amersfoort

We had made a reservation at the fondue bar. Very tasty cheese fondue but to our dismay the rest of the basement and the toilets looked terrible and covered in black mold. I don't understand how food can be served here. In addition, we were put at a bar and had very loud people next to us. This spoiled the atmosphere a bit for us because of all the noise. Nice concept, but the mold was really terrible. If this is not resolved, we will unfortunately not return here.

A very unusual restaurant where all the dishes are cheese. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at this place. Every combination of cheese and garnish was very tasty and unusual, and also the moving belt on which plates with dishes stood gives a special atmosphere to this restaurant. Every combination of cheese and side dish was very tasty and unusual, and the moving belt on which the plates with the dishes are placed also gives this restaurant a special atmosphere. We reserved a cheese fondue at the cheese bar. Upon arrival it turned out to be served in the cellar. We are shocked by the condition of the basement. A really unhealthy climate, completely black with mold. The cheese fondue itself was a small portion of cheese served with dehydrated vegetables. Very mediocre! Within 40 minutes of arrival we were ready with the fondue and we could pay..

Tried to make a reservation for a group of colleagues, but I had to send an email to a different email address than the regular one. I did not receive an answer and after calling 4 times, I finally received a response that a place could only be reserved from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (the reservation was only for 2 months). When asked if it was possible to stay a little longer, because I wouldn't like it if we were sent away after 2 hours, I have still not received an answer to this day, so we are just looking. gone to an alternative. I don't think it's fair that we've been kept on the line for so long. That's also fine if it's not possible, but at least let us know so that we can also look for an alternative. It's a shame because we thought it would be a really fun concept to go with colleagues!! The gentleman I last spoke to on the phone was very nice and tried to arrange it, but unfortunately that didn't seem to work.

We werden vriendelijk ontvangen, we hadden niet gereserveerd maar er was nog een plekje aan de bar (lopende band) Echt super gaaf! Als je er gaat eten, ga aan de band zitten. Bediening was aardig en legde alles goed uit. De kaasjes waren heerlijk, prima porties en veel verschillende keuzes. Helaas was de kelder (waar de wc was) goor, overal schimmel, niet hygienisch! Dit maakte het bezoek toch minder plezierig..

We loved the Kaasbar! It’s very reasonably priced, has kind and helpful service, and delicious cheese dishes! It’s fun to pick from the conveyor belt and allows for you to see some cheeses before deciding which to take. Also the interior has a cozy feel and has a view of the beautiful Dom tower. Highly recommend.

We had a delicious meal at the Cheese Bar in Utrecht. For true cheese lovers, the menu is definitely worth it and we would recommend the restaurant in that regard. However, we found the atmosphere a bit disappointing. We got a seat downstairs at the bar, where unfortunately the conveyor belt was not working. That can of course happen, but for us this really detracted from the experience, because the conveyor belt is part of the concept. We also regularly saw a cat on the bar and the walls and ceilings near the toilet and the seating area to the left of the bar were full of black mold. All in all, not a very healthy environment for a festive dinner. The staff was correct, but didn't seem very enthusiastic about their product.
