There was a problem with the level of doneness of my friend's hamburger. The staff kindly apologized and made it right for us quickly. Good service recovery is excellent service.

Great place for a drink! Would not order the food though, ordered the buikspek and it was pure fat.

This costs 21.50 euros. Price ratio is really not even possible.

We came here with a group and ate burgers. The staff was very good and everything was ready quickly. I didn't think the burger was that special and the mayo was really bad. We took part in the pub quiz, which unfortunately was not very well attended. The atmosphere was quite mediocre and we were asked just too often if we wanted another drink.

Staff is open, hospitable, helpful and flexible. Atmosphere is informal yet professional. Menu is varied.

After a few good lunch experiences, we had dinner at Kanis tonight. Unfortunately, that was very disappointing. The dishes were absolutely substandard. First of all, it didn't look like much: a 1/8th piece of pointed cabbage with 5 potatoes sitting on what looked like a thin layer of instant mashed potatoes floating in a watery yellow sauce that was supposed to represent a curry beurre blanc. The whole thing was sprinkled with fried onions from Sligro. We were unable to discover the cauliflower. The taste did not make us forget the terrible first impression, the meager quantity did not satisfy our hunger. After reporting the latter to the otherwise very friendly waitress, we left still hungry, disappointed and 70 euros poorer.

Cozy light place, nice staff (jug of water was served immediately), (too) large slices of good bread. But who will take care of the decoration of the place? Weird moldy stem as a flower on the table and a chair with torn upholstery! Not very hospitable. My scrambled eggs could also have been served on my plate with the bread, which would save an unnecessary bowl.

Great terrace on the water. Unfortunately, the new owner is less hospitable than the previous owners and sometimes downright bossy towards customers. The rest of the service is ok, although they seem understaffed when the weather is nice (quite a long wait for order). Fosco (from the previous owners of Kanis) is a good alternative.

I am impressed by the friendly welcome and service. The lady immediately brought a carafe of cold water with a glass. Wonderful, since it was at least 33° on this sunny day. Cozy terrace on the water. I had a beer and an espresso at normal prices. I was able to relax and rest from my walk. Nice atmosphere. I will definitely come back to eat here too.

I had a wonderful experience at KANIS! The management is truly hospitable and makes sure that both humans and their canine friends feel welcome. Our dog was allowed inside, which made our meal even more enjoyable. The view of the water added a serene backdrop to our meal. The food and drinks were fantastic. A special shout out to the very friendly, English speaking staff who went out of their way to accommodate us and ensure our evening was perfect. Highly recommended for a relaxed and enjoyable outing!

A beautiful neighborhood bar, with a calm and peaceful energy. Great views and a nice assortment of apparatives drinks and beers. Bo the manager is always a pleasure, welcoming and hospitable. A true Gem. Also they are dog friendly and always offer him water. 🐕

Nice neighborhood cafe with spacious terrace. Tasty food, especially vegetarian. To compensate for the meat bitterballs ;) The chef has a cool supersonic mega type air fryer, so after years there are finally bitterballen and good fries on the menu! And without stench and grease traps. Well done. Very friendly service and nice new owners since this year. Keep it up!

Conclusion: you don't come here for exceptionally good food. You come here for comfort food and a good drink. And they are fine here! When the sun shines, this tent has a terrace right in front of the water. So it's worth a visit on summer days if you want to take in the KNSM island with a good glass in your hand. You can eat well here. The burger is highly recommended. I would avoid the sous vide chicken, because after one bite of dried out meat you feel sorry that the animal had to die for it. Drinks menu is good and specifically the wine is above average compared to similar establishments. Both white and red only had good wines for very reasonable prices.

We had a wonderful evening that started in the evening sun on the terrace on the water and later, when it got cooler, we moved to the cafe itself. The chef and staff spoiled us with a range of very tasty dishes, all with an Indian twist. In short, a gem in Amsterdam.

Kanis has been a wonderful place and favorite for years because our office is also at the KNSM. Since the new owners, the food and (speed) of service have also improved.

I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent service, the excellent food and the cozy atmosphere. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and the service was exceptionally attentive throughout the entire meal. The food was simply delicious. Every dish we ordered, from the classics to the specialties, was prepared with care and left us wanting more. The ingredients were clearly of high quality and the presentation was beautifully done. As for the atmosphere, I can only say that the eatery offers a warm and inviting ambiance, perfect for a cozy dinner with friends or a romantic evening out. All in all, I can highly recommend Eetcafé Kanis to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience.

Kan has been nicely renovated Larger kitchen and comfortable lighting plan. The burgers, vegetarian and beef were wonderfully juicy and the bun wonderfully crispy. Good fries and tasty mayonnaise. Top!

Nice residential location. This is a pleasant place for a sunny day, as they have tables inside, outside and also on a pier. The food quality and price follows Amsterdam standards. Staff was friendly and patient but things took some time. The nice and cozy atmosphere make it a nice experience.

Recently visited and met the new owners. Very nice people and already a very nice atmosphere! I'm looking forward to visiting again after the renovation and especially experiencing the terrace in the summer!

We were present at the New Year's dive, what a fun event!! It was sunny, there was a hot tub to sit in after a cold jump into the water, absolutely great!! Then mulled wine and beer!! I'm looking forward to summer on the terrace!!

We waited one hour for our food and we left without eating :(

This place is beautiful and it is a shame that it is very poorly managed. The menu is very limited and wants to be pretentious without succeeding in it...and if you happen to be there between 15.30 and 16.00 you're not gonna get any food at all because the snacks and dinners start at 16.00, and the lunch menu is only served until 15.30. We wanted to order soup but it was finished (which I get if you have an extensive menu but if you have a handful of dishes, make sure you actually have them). We asked for nachos (which are literally taken out of a bag and placed in the oven for a few minutes) but we were told it was too early because it was 15.15. We ended up ordering a regular cheese toast, which was not even on the menu (because they only have more complicated stuff). It took 30 minutes to make it. Drinks were never brought to us so we had to ask again, after getting the food...the worst part is that the cafe was not full at all so I wouldn't know why it took so long with everything and they were so inflexible with the menu. They could have been much nicer with very little effort. I will never eat anything here anymore. But the place is really beautiful. I just suggest to go there for a drink and leave the food because it's a waste of your time and money.
