The high reviews are absolutely justified. Place is run by a Greek old man with okay-ish English, it's very small and easy to miss. Looks like a typical cheap and small place to get something to eat at, something you can find in most cities. Now, normally I don't leave reviews, but I think this place deserves it. It's open late at night, serves REALLY CHEAP FOOD, and the food is pretty good. The catch? I don't know - I didn't get sick like I expected to, so I have no clue what the catch is. The old man sells kapsalon with a Greek-styled cucumber sauce for just 6.50€. Cucumber isn't my thing, but I was surprised how well it fit. The portion I had was pretty decent, not massive, but I wouldn't call it small either. I'm fairly sure (and I don't think the old man is even aware how big of a deal it is) this place serves fries fried in beef tallow. I didn't check or ask - maybe someone else can verify. Either way, they were very good. I'd say there were more fries than meat, but overall it was balanced and meat wasn't skimped out on. My only complaint is that the takeout option is rather poor. It's serviceable, really, but you get a regular paper bag (no grips) with some foil on top of the tray. Hot. Requires caution and creative thinking/planning if biking home, but I managed. Try asking the old man to wrap the tray fully, and I think the issue is solved. You don't get a fork on takeout - hope you have one at home! Overall very good price, barely any wait, and the fact that it's open after 22 is a blessing. Highly recommend.

Katelios is the perfect tiny spot for a delicious, hearty, budget-friendly meal. The shop is small but charming, with cute decorations and comfortable seating both inside & outside. I was visiting from Canada and am very upset that I could only indulge in this amazing food twice. If I lived down the street permanently, I would be buying gyros & having pleasant interactions with the owner at least once a week. It is clear that the owner values his customers and puts his heart into every recipe. He is the best neighbourhood grandpa, making some top-tier Greek cuisine. I truly hope this place is still around the next time I visit.

Food was fantastic and generous portions too. Not a very big place, but if you are lucky enough that you can sit outside, you won’t regret it! What a great owner, who makes you feel welcome and is just a sweet man. We will be back for sure 👍😊

I highly recommend it! Cheap good souvlaki with excellent pita! 🫓 It is a bit oily though, so just make sure you don't get dirty. Do visit it!

Absolutely loved this place! The feta pita I had was excellent – fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The man who runs the restaurant was very kind and took the time to help me find the vegetarian options on the menu. The price was more than affordable for the quality and quantity of food. Best gyros, best hospitality in a gyros restaurant.

Went to get two gyros at 0:45. It was freezing outside. The shop lady/ friends were sitting on the couple of tables available so we ate in the middle of the corridor. Then when a new customer arrived, and we tried to move to the where the tables are, they basically just pushed us out of the shop. Besides, the lady couldn’t make any effort to try to make herself understood (speaking Greek only). Wouldn’t come back if I lived in Leiden..

Really nice little snackbar that serves delicious 'gyros'. Owner is super friendly and is selling his Sandwiches for very low prices so that everyone can enjoy them. When we came in he was dancing on his music and He even gave us some freshly made kroepoek for free. The place itself looks really cute and artistic. He also sells a lot of other asian food. Do have to say the 'Gyros' he sells is closer to a doner than a true Gyros but it was still delicious.

This is a great place. At first you think; a bit achenebbish, but the quality of the food is really tip-top. 'Katelios' is a one-man business run by an extremely driven (and amiable) man who cares about 'the fate' of the students in Leiden. After all, they do not and never have any money to spend, according to the owner of Katelios. He is 77 years old and with only a 'state pension' on his 'pay slip' he cycles from his house to his business every day. This is a man who forms the invisible glue within Dutch society, but is he recognized as such? Mr. Guizoun only charges 2 euros for fries and 2.50 for a Döner sandwich, which means he breaks even in terms of costs. He does not want to increase his prices because of his (student) customers, because he is a very socially committed man. The 'Leids Dagblad' wrote that a collection campaign had been organised, however, I was in his business 3 days later and nothing had happened or been collected... And so poor Guizoun was left in 'the cold', a garbage bag was a makeshift taped over a large hole in the window of his business. Vandalism had made a big hole in his window but not in his trust in people and an additional problem was: Guizoun had no building insurance to keep his prices low... Hence my appeal: people; whether you are rich or not or even hungry or not: please go to Mr. Guizoen sometime, order a delicious sandwich there, feel free to put the change in a jar on the counter and then leave this fantastic restaurant with a good feeling. man who brings his excellent products 'to the (poor) man' with so much feeling and quality. People like Mr. Guizoun, a man who wants to leave for the lord empty-handed, well, if only everyone were so full of ambition about 'life', right? May you continue for many years to come, Guizoun, I wish that for you! And a new window for your business of course, but that goes without saying... or better; that should be self-evident.

Meneer haalt elke keer het vlees vis etc vers van de boer. En dit proeft u ook: geen droge kip, vis, varken, alles vers gemarineerd bereid. Daarnaast lage prijzen tegenover de goede service. Echt een grote kapsalon voor maar 5 euro, broodje gyros vanaf 2,50. Voor pin betaal je 0,50 meer, maar de meerkosten ( zeker met fooi) zeker waard!

Pyszne i zawsze świeże jedzenie!

Pita Gyros en Griekse salade gegeten. Buiten op bord staat Pita Gyros €2,50, binnen is het €7,50.. ? De salade was lekker weinig feta maar we kregen wat extra nadat we er om vroegen. Dat was vriendelijk. Pita Gyros smakelijk, ik ken ze met friet en tzatziki maar hier zijn ze zonder friet en met iets wat meer op knoflooksaus lijkt. Al met al prima, niet zoals we ze kennen uit Griekenland. Ik zou niet ter plaatse eten, wij aten aan tafel met volle asbak en losse shag. Niet heel fris. Beter afhalen of bezorgen.

Ik heb er een pita broodje gekocht voor maar 4 euro en was super lekker. Ik ga vaker komen. Echt een aanrader als je in leiden binnen stad bent. Man die de zaak rund is super aardig en een leuke man om mee te praten.

Best Gyros anywhere. 2.5 euros of course does not leave any profit, so I asked the owner how can he makes any money at these prices. He answered "I don't need money from the store, I have money" And "there are many people in Leiden that do not have money, And the rich and the poor need to eat". So, do not hesitate and go and visit the tiny restaurant. You will not regret it, and may be on the way you contribute to good cause.

Wauw. Liep hier per ongeluk langs op weg naar huis, meneer stond buiten en leek te wachten op een bestelling. Toen ik vroeg of hij open was werd me gelijk duidelijk dat het een vrolijke man was en werd ik met open armen binnengelaten. De zaak is vanbinnen een beetje rommelig, maar erg sfeervol. Meneer was druk bezig met het maken van mijn diner, maar sociaal ook aanwezig. Hij nam de persoonlijke tijd voor mijn maaltijd en raadde me allerlei lekkere opties aan. Ik kreeg een enorme kapsalon met een Griekse twist mee naar huis. HOE LEKKER! Ontzettend lekker. Je proeft dat alles zelf huisgemaakt is, er wordt liefde en tijd gestoken in het voedsel dat ze maken en er hangt een dankbare en huiselijke sfeer. Hier kom ik 100% terug.
