Ketelhuis Strijp-S in Oud-Strijp

If you come to Strijp S on a sunny day, this is a nice place to spend some time. Unfortunately, when I visited, it was early evening and not particularly sunny. There were also no terrace heaters, so my tip would be to bring a sweater on a breezy evening. The lemonade is definitely worth trying, especially on a hot day. It was very refreshing, and the glasses are enormous! The fries were delicious, and the bitterballen were good as well. However, I did find the overall prices a little high. Unfortunately, the service was quite disappointing. We waited for more than an hour for our fries and bitterballen. After waiting for such a long time, I had to find a server myself and ask where our food was. It turned out that our order had been forgotten, and they only started preparing the food after I asked about it. What made this even more disappointing was that the terrace was not busy at all. There were fewer than 10 people outside, with only two tables occupied. Because of this, I would have expected the food to arrive much sooner. I think the furniture could be more comfortable, and the music could be a little less loud, as it makes it harder to have a conversation. One thing I personally found disappointing was the service in English. I understand that English is widely spoken in the Netherlands, but when I am in my own country, I prefer to be served in Dutch. I think staff working here should be able to communicate in the language of the country. When I visit another country, I also make an effort to speak the local language, even when I am on vacation. Overall, it is a nice place with good food and a great atmosphere on a sunny day, but there are quite a few things that could be improved.

Had a delicious meal at Het Ketelhuis! A super cozy location for drinks or for an extensive dinner with friends. The terrace is especially lovely on a balmy summer evening. Truly a nice place with a cozy atmosphere where you’ll want to linger a little longer!

A unique venue in a unique setting. The food is good but not overly flashy. A system that lets you order and pay at the table, with delivery coming quickly.

I went with a group of 20 people for drinks and snacks. We reserved two big tables outside. The atmosphere was very nice. We were very happy with the service we received, and the food was good. Would defenitely recommend.

What should have been a pleasant evening with our family on the terrace of Het Ketelhuis ended in total panic. Due to a very careless mistake by the wait staff, a plate of piping hot nachos and sauce fell all over my children. My daughter got the hot mixture on her hands and fingers. She was in excruciating pain, tears streamed down her cheeks, and we had to take her to the first aid post immediately for treatment of her burns. The shock was deeply ingrained in the children (and in us). Fortunately, the manager was understanding that evening. We were solemnly promised that they would resolve everything properly with us and that they would think along with us. But now that a few weeks have passed, we realize that those nice words unfortunately meant absolutely nothing. What hurts me most as a mother right now is the ice-cold silence afterwards. I have sent multiple emails to discuss everything, but we are now simply being deliberately ignored. We hear absolutely nothing. In all those weeks, not once was the effort made to call or send a message with the simple question: 'How is your daughter doing?' Making a mistake can happen, but how you treat people afterwards shows who you really are. I find it truly deeply sad and inhumane that Het Ketelhuis is now deliberately choosing to look away and completely ignore us after such a severe incident involving a child. Our trust is completely gone, and we will never return here.

Pricey. Long waits. Terrible cocktails

We were here for company drinks and dinner. It started at 6:00 PM. Beautiful location, especially the outdoor area was truly impeccable, and the atmosphere was lovely. However, we soon realized that appearances can be deceiving. The starter didn't arrive until 8:00 PM (which was very good), the main course at 9:00 PM (which was okay), and it wasn't until a few minutes before 10:00 PM that someone came to ask what we wanted for dessert (even though we had planned and booked a three-course dinner weeks in advance). Unfortunately, half the people had already left by then. We had practically only one waiter for 50 people... The exact same applied to the drinks. We had to wait a very long time for our drinks! And then, to top it all off, they arrived in the wrong place. I had ordered the last round for 9:00 PM. When I left shortly before 10:00 PM, it still hadn't arrived. To be honest: if you don't have enough staff for a group booking like that, you just shouldn't even bother ;/...

What hospitality entrepreneur plans a reggae party for 5 people on the same terrace for the Netherlands vs. Sweden World Cup match? The reggae music was so loud that I now have a ringing in my ears. There are screens set up and everything is neatly arranged, and right behind the screen, 5 people are dancing at festival volume. Everyone was annoyed by the provocative behavior of the reggae partygoers, and the volume seemed to drown out the match more and more. I am certain that this even exceeded the local noise limits for this event. The music was so loud that it could be heard two streets away, and that for roughly 5 people. And that during a World Cup match for the Netherlands that you are organizing yourself????? The neighbors at Biergarten (even though I find it too expensive) certainly understood the situation.

To my regret, I am revising my review. A few years ago, the Ketelhuis was *the* place on Strijp to eat or drink. I happily took my parents and grandparents there for a lunch sandwich or a (3-course) dinner. Every time, it was fun to ask if Papegaei was available (unfortunately, it was often sold out). I even celebrated my birthday at the Ketelhuis in April. But sadly, I have noticed that the warm atmosphere has been cooling down considerably lately. This became painfully clear after a severe storm broke out late in the evening while we were sitting on the terrace: the staff seemed to think it was more important that we stood outside in the thunderstorm and torrential rain than to be allowed to take shelter inside for a short time after closing. This while the staff were sitting inside enjoying a drink. It is a shame to see how a formerly pleasant place looks so bad. And please, be nice to your staff. Threatening to fire someone if they don't kick us out at a moment like that is not okay!!

Many activities with music and markets

Acoustics not ideal; we had to talk loudly to understand each other. I had an "aubergine" main course, but it was far too little to just order a main course. It is nice that you have room in your stomach for a starter, main course, and dessert, but unfortunately, my wallet wasn't big enough for that. My friend had the fish stew and got much more for less money (fish casserole plus large potato). The small, expensive aubergine dish was very tasty though! Service was good.

Every single time. Every single time, they manage to do something with the order that makes you think, forget it. Either the bill is wrong, or the staff doesn't speak Dutch, or I'll just pick up my own order myself that was ready five minutes ago. And every time, I give it a chance. Not anymore. It is an overrated place for hippies. Oh, and you are way too expensive for what you serve.

We've been coming here for years, everything is always top-notch. Cozy spot, still a little piece of ‘raw’ Eindhoven. Original and tasty dishes. Vegetarian options available too. Great wines and beers (Papegaei on tap 🥳). Super friendly staff. And we made a mistake while ordering, and they did everything they could to fix it for us. Thanks again. See you soon!

Terrible service, we have waited 45 minutes for three drinks.

Staff were nowhere to be seen the whole time; it wasn't busy... those walking around barely paid attention to customers and looked extremely uninterested and unkempt. Ordering via QR code took 25 minutes for 2 drinks, time after time. Eating at 5 pm wasn't possible either; we were only allowed a snack. Grabbing glasses by the mouthpiece just like with the beer bottles... very unprofessional and unhygienic.

When we sat down at the table, we could look into the kitchen. Kitchen staff blew their noses into a used handkerchief; immediately afterwards, they started touching food without washing their hands. Not a fresh start. The service could be a bit more alert, even though it wasn't super busy. Starter disappointing; cod carpaccio was thick, difficult to chew, and very sinewy. Steak tartare was fine, but not well cut. Main courses tried to make up for it, but they weren't amazing either. On the menu, very attractive; on the plate, disappointing. A bill of 100+ euros (starter, main course, and 1 drink per person) not worth the money. Food poisoning in the evening. Not great. We had high hopes and were very curious; we are very disappointed. We will not be coming back.

We were a group of 10 people on a company outing. We ordered a starter: cod carpaccio. I thought I'd give it a try. I regretted it when I saw it. It also had pork on it. What a bizarre combination. I didn't know it also contained pork. Some Spanish text was supposed to clarify that. The main course was okay. Dessert was delicious with the blue cheese combination. Two colleagues had to wait a long time for the main course. The prices are quite high!

Eight of us were here for a Murder Mystery dinner. We were assigned a game leader, who guided us while we were eating. It was a three-course meal with a murder mystery game. You could choose from a starter, main course, and dessert, excluding drinks. The food is fancy, and there might be things you're not entirely familiar with. We did a lot of Googling before ordering. It was very tasty and of good quality, though. We had a waitress and a waiter. The waitress was grumpy and I think she wasn't having a good day. It was a birthday party, so we were having a nice chat, which she didn't seem to appreciate. The waiter, however, was very kind and friendly. One dish was late in the oven, so we received a free bread board, which was nice! There was also some wine left over, which we received for free. It was a lovely, cozy atmosphere!

A trendy spot in an iconic building in Eindhoven. The food (starter and main course) was excellent. The main course took a while to arrive, and not everyone at the table was served at the same time. The atmosphere is nice, but it was really too cold in the restaurant (January).

It was delicious, but the portions were meager. Three baby potatoes with the bavet and some mashed potatoes with the beef. Very meager.

Had a lovely meal on Tuesday, good value for money and played games with lovely jazz music in the background.

The two of us had a fantastic meal here. We had fish as a starter, bavette, and eggplant. Beautifully presented plates with a wealth of flavors. Every bite was a surprise. For dessert, we ordered a complete coffee. It wasn't on the menu, but the friendly waiter made it a treat. Coffee with Liqueur 43 and a slice of tiramisu.

Today we enjoyed "what's on the menu." This is available on Mondays and Tuesdays. A choice of meat or vegetarian with a glass of wine, beer, or soft drink for €16.50! We then had dessert: each of us had something different, and each equally delicious. The cortado is also highly recommended. And afterward, you can enjoy a game. The food was delicious, the service was super friendly, and there's a nice, relaxed atmosphere with great music in the background. Highly recommended!

Best blonde waiter in Eindhoven

Delicious and well prepared food. Somewhat small portions. A bit noisy, and uncomfortable chairs.

Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. We ordered using the QR code on the table, which clearly stated "order here." After waiting twenty minutes, we asked where our order was. We were then told that nothing had been ordered, even though the amount had already been debited from our account. After showing this, they groaned and investigated what had gone wrong. Finally, we were told that we shouldn't have ordered using that QR code and that it was our own fault, which felt rather unfair. After forty-five minutes, the drinks arrived, and the manager brought the last of them with an uninterested attitude. The food arrived later, and while it wasn't bad, the whole experience wasn't exactly pleasant. It's a shame that so little understanding or kindness was shown. A simple apology or a little understanding from the manager would have made a big difference.

Ordered lunch during Dutch Design Week 90 minutes ago. Still waiting for our order to arrive. If you’re in Eindhoven for exhibitions and want a quick lunch, avoid this place. Food seems good though .

I rarely encounter this, but I did at Ketelhuis: I ordered a salad that was completely different on the plate than described on the menu. I pointed this out and said it was perfectly fine. The staff came back 10 minutes later, on their own initiative, with an extra plate of a delicious complementary salad. Truly fantastic! Genuine attention and delicious food.

Apparently it's very difficult to find interested and skilled staff. The food was quite okay, but the nonchalant and inattentive behavior of the staff was really not okay. So, I'll go once, but never again.

It a shame their app didn't put the orders through fully, that can happen but good service would have checked that it made sense 4 people at the table still didnt have drinks. Also i have not heard the word 'sorry' after it was finally fixed 20 min in.

We waited a long time for the dishes and they weren’t as tasty as we expected.

The terrace's decor has a certain style. Some will find it shabby, others artistic. The food was fine, but the service was what disappointed me most. You'd think you'd teach your foreign staff some common Dutch phrases, but "Where is the toilet?" was already too difficult. Overall, a disappointing and frustrating visit that I don't recommend.

I was really disappointed. I'm a real omnivore, but the chicken wings were absolutely disgusting (and I left everything). I politely pointed this out. No compensation. I would have been happy with a piece of bread as compensation or a few euros, more the gesture, because I felt very uncomfortable. I left hungry and had to find a new restaurant.

Ketelhuis Strijp-S serves extremely good food, but unfortunately, it doesn’t make up for the poor service and noisy atmosphere. We arrived on time for our reservation as a group of 12, but it took 30 minutes just to get menus, which were then taken away 10 minutes later and replaced with a much-reduced selection due to our group size, with many of the best dishes removed. Orders took another 30 minutes to be taken, 45 minutes for starters, and another 45 for mains. When it was time for dessert, we were told that the cheesecake many of us ordered was sold out, and the only alternative offered was panna cotta. On top of this, the noise level was overwhelming, making it hard to hear even those nearby. It’s a real shame because the food itself was excellent, one of the best pieces of meat I’ve had in the region, but overall, the experience was disappointing.

I had the most delicious hummus I've ever had. And the chef even came over to explain in detail how he made it. 🍀 So nice! Enjoyed it outside in the evening sun. Back to the Ketelhuis soon!

When you go out for dinner, you don't expect three dishes to be gone. The schnitzel is gone, the guinea fowl is gone, the hamburger is gone. Plus, the drink we wanted was gone... unbelievable. And hey, it can all happen, but don't ask if everything was to my liking! No second time for me.

We went here briefly. They had plastic cups and carafes. We didn't know this when we ordered, and when we brought them in, we were charged €7. When we returned them, we were charged €3. That's not how deposits work, is it? I asked the staff on site about this unusual way of earning money. I contacted them by email, but they didn't hear anything. I don't need to come here again.

It took over 45 minutes to get a plate of fried feta. In addition, other people's food, including that of others, took a long time to arrive.

Eten en lunch besteld. Dame was niet op de hoogte van wat er glutenvrij te bestellen was en was niet erg vriendelijk. Is het wel na gaan vragen … oh nee wat u gekozen heeft kan sowieso niet om zeker te zijn maar nacho’s besteld. Na 45 minuten nog steeds geen drinken. Nogmaals aan andere ober gevraagd. 10 min later kwam eindelijk het drinken. Eten ook nogmaals om gevraagd ja het is druk werd er gezegd. ( die ober was overigens vriendelijk) mensen op terras vertrokken na lang wachten uiteindelijk zonder drinken. Ruim een uur na bestellingkwam dan eindelijk het eten. Lunch van tafelgenoot kwam eraan maar Mijn nachos die al enige tijd klaar stonden vanuit de keuken waren al koud. Toen ik af wilde rekenen liep ik naar de vriendelijke ober en kwam een andere tegen. Ik wilde voor hem opzij stappen en dat had hij blijkbaar niet verwacht en gooide wijn over me heen … kan gebeuren maar vervolgens krijg ik naar mijn hoofd geslingerd zou je niet eens even sorry zeggen voordat ik überhaupt iets kan zeggen …. Zo onvriendelijk ben ik echt nog nooit ergens als klant toegesnauwd. Hier zien ze mij nooit meer terug !

2023: Good atmosphere, pleasant and professional service, delicious and culinary dishes and drinks. Highly recommended! 2025: While I was still very enthusiastic in 2023, I have to revise my opinion somewhat in 2025. During busy periods, the service is downright terrible. Lunch ordered at 2:30 PM was delivered at 3:30 PM, with no indication that it might take longer. And when we did receive it, it was partly the wrong dishes. When we pointed it out, they gruffly snatched everything away, only to partially serve it again with the comment that something was wrong with the order. No further action. The other dishes ordered were not delivered. When we went to pay, we also mentioned this, and the lady in question (nose piercing) only replied, "Sorry guys." No, the food we received was tasty, but the service was truly terrible.

I'm a regular at De Ketelhuis, and the food is always excellent. The great thing about this restaurant is that they have a seasonal menu; if you choose the three- or four-course menu, you get a completely new selection every two months or so. Tonight we went for dinner again, and one of the dishes wasn't quite right. After I mentioned it to the staff, they resolved it beyond my expectations. I was so pleasantly surprised that I'm writing this review (mind you: I've written four reviews in a decade). Overall, a job well done!

Very slow and bad service. Ordered things we never received (paid €5 for water we didn’t get) and got this we didn’t order. The food was okay but not for the price (and the rice was no longer rice). The vibe was good but not worth the price.

The food is excellent, albeit a bit pricey. We booked a table late afternoon because we needed to be elsewhere early evening. We were seated with our menus, but then it took 25min for someone to take our orders incl drinks. Waited another 15min and then we're told we had gotten the wrong menus... Another 10min before we got the correct ones, but still no drinks. Once we ordered our food it was almost time to leave again, but luckily it arrived quite quickly. The staff is friendly but very unorganised / inexperienced unfortunately. The kitchen staff is constantly shouting loudly at eachother - we couldn't understand what they said but it sounded like a fight might break out. This on top of a VERY NOISY place anyway, makes for a very edgy atmosphere. Again: the food was fine. Don't forget to order the extras because at €30 you won't get any fries or vegetables with your order.

Booked at 17:30 because of a concert in Klokgebouw. ​​At 19:30 still no main course, service could not give any indication when it would arrive, when we indicated that we would go. Waiter reacted very sportingly and agreed with us. With us a large number of tables with the same problem, it seemed that they also did not want to miss the concert and cancelled their main course. The starter did arrive, ravioli, potentially a tasty dish, but it was not cooked. This restaurant could not handle the crowds, that much is clear. The people who work there are all very friendly, they probably can't do much about the fact that it was a complete shitshow.

Huge disappointment. It was a busy Saturday night, but was really below standard. Good reception, after which it takes a very long time for someone to bring the menu, drinks took at least half an hour. Rendang was tasty, pork belly was a huge disappointment. Of the 3 slices of pork belly, 2 were pure fat, no meat on it. Large piece of cabbage and 2 small piles of hoisin beetroot cream. Pearl couscous? Didn't see it. Ask for 2 rounds of drinks and try to make a comment about the food. Someone is sent. Never shows up. But paid at the bar and left. We'll get dessert somewhere else.

Super nice place and a very nice atmosphere. It was very busy, because of this we had to wait a while for the drinks and the food. It was worth it. The food is good and they have a surprising menu. You can sit outside and inside. The staff is super friendly.

Had a bite to eat here on a Thursday evening. Positively surprised by the food, it was really delicious. Good flavors, nice combinations and beautiful garnishes. The drinks were also tasty, also many good options for non-alcoholic. Only the service seemed a bit sloppy. Ordering was difficult, the main courses arrived before the starters, drinks were forgotten. All in all positive, but the quality of the service could definitely be better!

A dream restaurant. Delicious food with a menu that is definitely satisfying. There are drinks of all kinds. We all enjoyed ourselves and there were no complaints about anything. It took a while for all the food to arrive but not in a way that was disruptive. I am a vegetarian and I had a dish for myself. Another person was celiac and she also had suitable food. And there was an excellent dessert. In general, this concept that the kitchen is part of the restaurant, or at least you can see it, is nice. The whole atmosphere was good. Definitely recommended.

Worthless. I left the terrace after 15 minutes with a lame arm from waving and signaling to the waiter. Unfortunately there was no point.

Fellas, done a few big dinners here during winterclash over the years and the fact that we came back was a testament to the positive experience. We enjoyed drinking the good wine, eating the good food and having some resemblance of competent service, but not so this time. Waited 35 mins to sit having arrived for specifically booked time. The tartar with potato chips was an abomination and will haunt my dreams for months to come. Described by one of the party unfortunate enough to order it as “dog food with crisps”. The architect should have their dish creation credentials revoked. A general confusion and amateur nature of the staff was frustrating and disappointing. It just felt that there were no adults in the house grabbing the bull by the horns and running the restaurant. The steak main was pretty decent tbf so credit where credit’s due. Quite gutted all in all as we like a good tradition. Hoping someone pulls their finger out and elevates this place back to the pretty decent joint it used to be.

Walked in for lunch. Drinks came fairly quickly. Ordered 2 beef croquettes with sourdough bread and 2 cheese croquettes with sourdough bread. Waited 50 minutes and when I asked, she said oh yes, they have been ready for a long time. They forgot to bring us the order. And the croquettes were already completely lukewarm. We ate it anyway because we were very hungry. One small slice of bread with 2 croquettes is the ultimate economy, and the bread was baked very hard. The lettuce leaves had also been economized. Add a large bowl of mustard that is certainly enough for a football team. This meager lunch cost more than €35

Although apologies were made, it takes a really long time for your order to be delivered. In our case only drinks. What was extra strange was that half the staff was playing dungeons and dragons at a restaurant table. It is of course possible that your shift is over, but it gives the wrong impression to your customers. We still had a nice chat in the kitchen with the chef. Been working there for 8 years. Great guy.

Really disappointed at how the Ketelhuis team organized the Seafood and Steak event. After paying 170EUR for 2, I was informed on 16th Jan. the event had to be rescheduled. I asked for a refund and still haven't seen a cent more than 2 weeks later. If you are considering to join such events, I recommend first enjoy the service then pay.

Lovely meals, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. Fine place for a nice time out with delicious food and one of my favourite cooks in the kitchen. 😉

It took forever before the drink was even made and then the coffee was completely cold. It was also quite expensive and there was not even a spoon or anything with the coffee etc, let alone cookies. Furthermore, it is noisy and very unusual uncomfortable chairs. Not recommended!

The cheese fondue and wine evening was nicely organized! Looks attractive and the fondue with snacks was very tasty. Just a shame it was so cold! We had goosebumps at the table all evening.

Nice place, friendly and quick service, tasty food and a simple menu. Recommended for both lunch and dinner

Very cozy and casual atmosphere, with a lot of choice on the menu. Definitely come back.

Food is good, ambiance is good. Why. Only three stars. Because of the sound. You can barely understand each other when there are a lot of people. If noise-dampening measures are taken, the tent is worth 4.5 stars

Look further for a bite to eat. Please note that the apple pie for 5.50 euros is not fresh. This is frozen, needs to be thawed and only comes to the table when the coffee is finished. Service is very mediocre. The staff is busier with each other than with the guests.
