a restaurant my sister has been recommending for years, so i came with high expectations — and luckily, i wasn’t disappointed. the view of the river with boats and swans adds at least half the flavor to the meal 😄 the burger was juicy, the steak tartare was excellent, and the sashimi was very fresh and delicious. the service was friendly, professional, and always with a smile. one of those places where you simply enjoy sitting and taking your time.

Meaning we could count the garnalen and her glass was full of salad with one layer of garnalen on top. 4 people and 260€ the end bill. Ridiculous, just plain ridicilous and it was cold, very cold. And to top it all off, the waitress added an extra €10 to the tip via the card machine. Luckily, I noticed it in time because I had to use my PIN. Never again!!

Unfortunately, not a pleasant experience on Easter Monday. We had reserved a few days in advance, but only found out when we were seated that only an Easter brunch was available and not à la carte. The Easter brunch itself was fine, but far too much, and you pay a hefty price for it. The waitstaff (bald man) came across as unpleasant right from the start; he was uninterested and impatient. He tried to hide it, but failed. And that on such a beautiful sunny day. Perhaps he should consider a different kind of job than in hospitality after all? A very nice young lady did some repair work afterwards and fortunately understood the trade very well. That is why I gave the service 2 stars instead of 1.

Once and NEVER again! Mr. Owner thinks he runs a Michelin restaurant! White tablecloths don't make this place a 5* restaurant. Price/quality ratio is absolutely appalling. I agreed on a menu for a small group: a portion of kibbeling, fries, and 1 herring per person. The owner asked 35 euros per person (!). In Volendam, you pay 15 euros for something like that. Well... Eventually, the price dropped to 30 euros. For that price, only the herring was edible. The kibbeling and fries were so hard that we couldn't pierce them with a fork. It was truly inedible. Scandalous. Mr. Owner... you shouldn't fantasize and tell lies... otherwise, you will lose the customers. Potential customers... you have been warned!

From the moment you arrive, you are welcomed. The servers are accommodating, soft-spoken and courteous. I was not a fan of some of what was in the fixed menu but even that tasted great! Could not fault this restaurant much except that it is a little bit pricey. There is plenty of parking about 200 meters away, free on Sunday (blue line) about 50 meters away. View is beautiful, people on their afternoon jogs, canal view, and it's in the corner with a veranda also. Just a lovely atmosphere It's mostly fish or meat, it's not great for vegans or vegetarians I think, although there are dishes available ofcourse. Just not spoilt for choice. Not halal as far as I know. Accepts Amex also.

I've been coming to this restaurant for years, but there's a lot of turnover. Unfortunately, this is noticeable for customers. The food itself is good, but the price-quality ratio isn't good. Especially if you choose the tasting menu, you'll still be hungry. 😢 The location of this restaurant is fantastic, but that's the only downside. The service and hygiene definitely leave a lot to be desired. Dirty glasses are left on the table, and the cutlery is old and needs replacing. The table service shows that the waitresses lack experience in providing proper, good service. The interior is also not in the best condition and definitely needs improvement. It's such a shame to see the decline worsening...

What a disappointment last Sunday. There was a young man serving who was extremely rude to the guests. He didn't say "please" when placing drinks. He kept rolling his eyes. The menu was slammed on the table. Everyone around us had the same experience with him. When guests commented on his unfriendliness, he walked around as if he were the boss. He was also training a young man. Well, he was snapped at as well. Truly unfriendly and unwelcoming. This was the second time this experience has happened at the Little Calf. The patio furniture and decor were minimal and lacked atmosphere.

Unfortunately, we didn't have a pleasant experience at the Little Calf. We wanted to get a drink, but that wasn't appreciated. We were placed in the sun when we wanted to sit in the shade. The waiter in question grumpily said, "It's going to rain soon anyway" (so we would have been sitting in the rain). We asked for the drinks menu, but they didn't have one. They didn't offer drinks, so we couldn't see the prices.

Somewhat faded glory. We went there for lunch last week for our mother-in-law's 81st birthday. The service was terrible. The lady in question was unprofessional. We were given six oysters, and the four of us each ate one. Absolutely fishy and disgusting/old. We weren't charged for the leftover oysters, but we were charged for the old, over-dated ones, which was truly scandalous. The kitchen also thought the oysters were delicious (well, I'll admit). Overall, the service was terrible. A grumpy child. Later, we received more pleasant, more "mature" service. We ordered a very nice white wine, but they didn't arrive in time for the dish in question, so we cancelled. Such a shame. This was our last visit!

What a waste of this fantastic location, on the beautiful Amstel River! There's no vibrant terrace or restaurant anywhere near here. The staff are unpleasant and unfriendly, and the menu is meager (no drinks menu on the terrace). Apparently, the price of a glass of wine used to be €9, and when ordering in advance and asking about the price on a second visit, it was €6.50! The food is terrible, overpriced for what it is, and seriously lacking in imagination and care. If that were the only thing we had, that would be great, but unfortunately, there are hardly any fresh vegetables with the dishes, and the vegetarian pasta is a soggy mess. When we asked for oat milk for our coffee, the owner more or less laughed at us. He pointed to the logo: the calf: "Calf, you know, a cow, so that's real milk!" Thank you! Very hospitable and friendly, and a very logical answer. It's 2025! Not everyone wants to eat meat or have animal milk in their coffee! The patio furniture is tasteless and not particularly clean. It fits the concept perfectly. And a mountain of bored, disinterested staff hangs around, more interested in each other or their looks than in serving the meager six occupied tables on a blazing, sunny, warm summer afternoon. When will something of quality finally arrive at this fantastic spot in Amsterdam? Sell the place to one of the many young, creative, and enthusiastic chefs Amsterdam has in abundance, and after all these years of more of the same, please breathe new life into this place!

📍What a beautiful location along the Amstel River. Great view, especially at sunset. I've often sailed past it, so this time I went inside… 🏠The restaurant consists of a separate terrace along the water and the main building with the restaurant, bar, and adjacent terrace. 🚾 The ladies' restroom on the right is in need of renovation; there was a kind of hole in the wall where a sink used to be. So you can't wash your hands. 🍽️ We had drinks, so the food and drinks couldn't go wrong. 🛎️ The lady and the gentleman from the kitchen helped us politely. Unfortunately, the experience turned unpleasant after that. The young man dressed in a black T-shirt, gray jeans, and white sneakers wasn't a pleasant experience. We were sitting on the terrace, just like everyone else. I noticed that all the white people could pay at his table, using the ATM he was holding. Then the people of color were sent inside to pay at the restaurant using the exact same point-of-sale system and debit card machine he had previously carried. We didn't ask for a receipt—just like all the other tables. Furthermore, the tone in which he addressed me was anything but hospitable. Perhaps a coincidence and all without ulterior motive, but in my opinion, it's remarkable. This has personally left me with a bad taste in my mouth, and I look at this place differently when I pass by on my weekly boat trip. 💰It's relatively expensive, but that's normal in Amsterdam and the surrounding area.

Dirty glasses, indifferent staff, cheap cutlery with small paper napkins. Butter in plastic tubs, tablecloths like those in a cheap Chinese restaurant. Ever cut steak with a dull knife? Mushroom sauce over your vegetables that wasn't listed? And a dried-out lobster. Despite this, the rest of the dinner was absolutely fine. Will I return? No. Besides, the toilet seat isn't recommended either, with a seat that slides off.

Het Klein Kalfje stond altijd bekend om zijn goede reputatie en sfeervolle locatie aan de Amstel. Daarom nam ik vooraf contact op om een feestelijke lunch te organiseren voor de verjaardag van mijn vriendin. Helaas werd het een ervaring om snel te vergeten. De stoelen waren nat, de parasol kapot, en het toilet in erbarmelijke staat. Geen tafelkleed, geen sfeer—en de bediening was ongeïnteresseerd en amateuristisch. De eigenaar, Bram, liep zichtbaar gefrustreerd rond en gooide en smeet met spullen, wat de onrust alleen maar vergrootte. Hoewel de oesters gelukkig goed waren, viel de salade riche zwaar tegen: het was eerder een salade poor. Het eten werd zonder zorg gepresenteerd en de ambiance was rommelig en ongeïnspireerd. Een lunch die bedoeld was als feestelijke verrassing, eindigde als een teleurstelling. Geen aanrader—zeker niet voor een speciale gelegenheid.

My daughter and I had a wonderful lunch this Sunday, July 6, 2025, where we saw 3 soles at 26.50 euros and 2 soles for the same amount on the receipt. When ordering, I asked for three for me and two for her. When paying, the owner did not think it was necessary to do anything about it but to tell a mother with a child that he had so much money that he did not know what to do with it anymore. Na een fietstocht door Amsterdam kwamen we aan bij het restaurant. De ligging is prachtig. Maar direct na de ontvangst van een ongeïnteresseerde dame die ons naar een tafel wees was de pret er snel af. We vonden het al vreemd dat bijna alle tafels onbezet waren maar we wisten vrij snel waarom. Na 15 minuten wachten werden er 4 menukaarten op de tafel neergelegd en werd er gevraagd wat we wilden drinken. De serveerster kwam met de drankjes en wist niet meer welke wijn bij welke dame hoorde. De biertjes voor de heren ging net goed. Bier was lauw, wijn was ook niet op temperatuur, rokende koks naast het restaurant. Allemaal net niet, geen aanrader. Uiteindelijk weer heerlijk gegeten bij Loetje in Ouderkerk.

Stopped by boat to get something to eat. When our order started with ‘fries’ the owner said that was ridiculous and that we should order something normal. We didn’t even have time to order the rest. When we then thought ‘let’s just take it to go’ we got an eye roll and someone behind the bar complained about how ridiculous it was that we asked for plastic glasses. When we paid I asked the gentleman what exactly the problem was, and if we had done something wrong. He said that ‘customers’ were treated normally, but we weren’t. So we just left the drinks there, he can sell them to someone else. See you never again 🥳

Extremely bad service, even rude. We came in and sat down at a table. It wasn't busy and there were two staff members walking around. We wanted to order because we were hungry but were not noticed. Eventually I got up myself and got a menu from the bar. We were not noticed then either. We looked at the menu and waited for them to come and take the order but that didn't happen so my girlfriend went to the toilet and I walked to the bar where my order was taken rather indifferently. I sat down again and since our table was dirty I waved to the barman who was in the meantime standing in the room but still didn't see me so I called him and asked if he could also clean our table. Only then did his older colleague, probably the manager, notice me and look at me hostilely. He kept looking at me angrily so I asked if there was anything, and then he said, 'the louder you shout, the less quickly you will be helped'. He came towards me angry and irritated and said something hostile that I can't remember so I asked him if we were doing the world upside down because I had been sitting here for over 10 minutes and I would like our table to be cleaned. I think he asked in a rather hostile way what we wanted and then I said that I had already ordered. In the meantime my girlfriend had also returned and asked what was going on so I started to explain this and then I decided that I didn't want to eat here at all so we left. I shouted to the waiter 'never mind, we're going', to which he said 'better too!' I can't say anything about the food but I also rated it with 1 star because it shouldn't have gotten to this point. I would stay away!

Tijdens het eten ging 1 van de pootjes tussen de tafels waardoor al het eten en sausjes over onze kleding ging. Wijn viel om en wij zaten helemaal onder de saus. Kregen alleen een vaatdoek toe geworpen en daarna is niemand meer geweest. Verschrikkelijke service en niet klantvriendelijk.

Ordered Salade Nicoise. Four measly pieces of tuna without much taste (soft, that's true) lots of stalks in the lettuce, no green beans to be found. But that we had to pay five!! euros extra for two white toasted sandwiches, because nothing else came with the salad, that took the cake. Not a place to return to, although the location on the Amstel remains nice. Too bad.

Geweldige locatie, vorige eigenaars waren echt top. Nieuwe eigenaar is onbeschoft, onhygiënisch en vies. Niet voor herhaling vatbaar, jammer van zo’n top locatie. Honden in het restaurant, hoesten met bestek in de handen, rochelen midden in het restaurant, ongekamde haren, vies…… wat jammer dat dit zo afgeleid met deze eigenaar.

Zeer onhygiënische honden restaurant. Onvriendelijke eigenaar die je niet eens aankijkt en zijn hygiëne is ver te zoeken. Hij ziet er alles behalve representatief uit maar wel zulke prijzen hanteren??Hoeste de heel avond terwijl hij bestek in zijn handen had. Hij hield op een gegeven moment een string in zijn hand en legde die op een stoel neer. Was continue in discussie met zijn personeel . Die jonge jongen was wel klantvriendelijk en behulpzaam. Honden die daar ongelimiteerd naar binnen mogen waren in gevecht en blaften, stoote hun drinkbekers en een stoel omver Neeee zelfs al is het gratis , mij zie je daar niet meer in dit onhygiënische dieren circus . Honden zitten aan dezelfde vieze banken als mensen trouwens ..heel normaal daar. Het eten was wel okay..maar voor die prijzen mag je wel wat MEER en meer kwaliteit en service verwachten.

They only served a Easter menu. That was not mentioned when we made our reservaton weeks ago and is not mentioned on there website. Further more the place was very out-dated. The toilets could use a rebuild. Parts broken and out of (toilet) paper, a little bit discusting. And not clean. Staff handling glasses on the top edge and so on. Tablecloth with stains. Some staff was looking angry all the time and where adressing us on-friendly. Not realy a recommendation.

We hadden de visschotel van 49 euro – dat klinkt als een etagiere vol met lekkers uit de zee, maar het leek meer op een overgebleven borrelhap van gisteren. Een paar gefrituurde calamares die rechtstreeks uit de vriezer van de groothandel kwamen, vier krabbepootjes waar je meer moeite voor moet doen dan ze waard zijn, twee garnalenkroketjes (serieus, twee?), wat van die garnaaltjes waar zelfs de kat z’n neus voor ophaalt, en plakjes zalm die vooral deden denken aan "uitverkoop bij de visboer." O ja, en witte boterhammen. Geen grap. Witte. Boterhammen. Met een hoop bakjes saus eromheen om de boel te camoufleren. Als dit 49 euro moet kosten, dan ben ik morgen miljonair met een broodje haring. De borden waren vies en toen we om een schoon bord vroegen, kregen we een blik alsof we vroegen of ze even de Amstel wilden leegpompen. Al met al: als je op zoek bent naar een dure grap met uitzicht, dan is dit je tent.

It was one of the first sunny days, so we ate something on the terrace by the water. We were not received very friendly, were only allowed to sit at the square tables if we ordered food, which was what we were planning to do, so no problem. However, repeatedly asking whether we were going to order food fueled my urge to leave again. The best man who received us was not really friendly. Then the table top was dirty and we had to ask several times if the table could be cleaned, which was eventually done with great reluctance (it was not very busy on the terrace, so I did not really understand why it was so difficult to do so). The drinking glasses were dirty, so I drank drinks from the bottle. Food was ok, but not great. All in all not really a positive experience. The location is unique.

Ronduit een onbeschofte man in de bediening. Loopt met een air over het terras alsof iedere gast hem in de weg zit. Het ging zelfs zo ver dat wij ons afvroegen of we in bananensplit zaten & wachtte tot ons de camera’s werden aangewezen. De man is onvriendelijk tegen zijn collega’s & tegen gasten. Maakt opmerkingen over gasten & wegwuivende gebaren. Zo ontzettend jammer dat zo’n leuke tent met een goede kaart verpest kan worden door een kereltje zonder fatsoen en enige vorm van hospitality. The food was ok but not in proportion to what you paid for it. Bouncer 10.50, but if you want cheese, bacon or champions, you pay 2.50 extra per item, so 7.50 for 2 strips of bacon and 3/4 slices of champion. Just had to look for it. So 17.50 for a simple bouncer. I can post more comments, but I just won't eat there again.

I arrived a little later than the rest of the table. The lady who received me showed little enthusiasm and I found the table myself. Service was poor... disorganized and they were unable to solve it themselves when the fore and head were served at the same time and left it to the manager(?). This one hoped that we weren't going to make it too difficult for him... didn't understand this, hope it was a bad choice for a joke. I started pouring it myself because the service was not proactive about this. I had the Wagyu burger...and I found it uninspired...meat was dry and toppings mediocre and not worth the price. In short...for me this is not the place I come back for a snack.

Ended up here for a late lunch on a beautiful late summer day. Because one of my table companions used to come here regularly and had good memories of it, we decided to moor at this place. He could have preserved those memories better. To begin with, we were received very unfriendly. It's actually with an arrogance that I have you there... I would have preferred to turn around and leave myself. After sitting on the outside terrace (which is a lovely setting by the way), it took a while before someone came to take our order, which also went wrong. No problem can happen. The food is of a reasonable standard, but very overpriced for the quality. Apparently we were not interesting enough anymore because when we had finished eating we sat with empty plates in front of us for a long time. After waiting at least half an hour, we decided that we wanted the bill: all the waiting staff had apparently disappeared, except for 1 young lady behind the bar. (The terrace was filled with about 30 people) I asked for the bill myself. When we left, no one even looked at us. In my opinion, the manager lacks enthusiasm and passion for the beautiful catering profession in which the guest should feel at home, then the rest is secondary. The young guard cannot do much about the fact that they do not work perfectly, but they also lack a good example or guidance. We will drive a little further next time for a warm welcome.

Klein calf is open to the public all year round. I was there recently with my brother, after we visited my father's grave. We had delicious blond beer, goat cheese croquettes. And we ordered bitterballen, although I say my intestines can't handle them well, I still ate a few. Very good quality food and drinks. Recommended. The owner himself comes to inquire with some ladies further on the terrace, what could it be? Super service by a young man at the counter who can also provide text and explanation about the types 🍻 that we can get... great.

Nice location, but the maitre d' was dramatically bad. Took drinks but didn't get through. When we said that he said 'ok'. But did nothing. When I ordered from a colleague of his, it arrived. But the bill said it twice. He was willing to take it off but mumbled that he had delivered it. Really very bizarre. Also a sneer at his (much more service-oriented) colleague. It runs at the location not the service. Shame.

The place is fantastic, especially the terrace on the water. We were there for more than 3.5 hours and had some excellent drinks and food. But what bothers me is that the staff (owner and daughter?) never once make you feel welcome. That's a bit of a shame, so I don't know if I want to come back there. There is plenty of alternative nearby.

Na avond uit met ADE vlak voor 12 uur maaltijd besteld, beveiliging voor balie loopt onrustig rondjes tussen klanten en gebaart naar de keuken het friet mandje eruit te halen. Resultaat is ongebakken friet en koude burger, nog nooit zo slecht gegeten bij MC en slechte sfeer dankzij beveiliger. Vergeet tegenwoordig niet een kartonnen beker van 10 cent te selecteren anders ben je €1 kwijt aangezien je de beker bij de balie terug kan geven voor het statiegeld. Gebruik de app om altijd een menu te kunnen bestellen voor €9 en spaar tegelijk punten voor gratis items, bespaart bij elk bezoek zo’n €5!
