The food was tasty, but very pricey for what you get.

We ate with six people, and everyone's food was cold and the meat was tough. The price-quality ratio was poor, and it was also cold inside. A real disappointment.

The first time, it was a bit strange that everything was in German, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. The toilet was reasonably accessible for people with disabilities.

Delicious, fresh lunch by the water. Friendly service. Now, January 14, 2024, a lot has changed. You don't get what you order. 0.2 liters of seasonal beer in a 0.25 liter glass. 2 mints with the bill (there were four of us). Disinterested staff. I won't be coming back for a while! 🙁

You get what you pay for. Excellent dining experience and friendly, professional staff. Steaks and meat specials are amazing! Also the cheese fondue was great.

The sandwich preparation is incredibly tasteless. Far too little to eat a whole sandwich. The service is okay, but nothing more. They're uninvolved, unfriendly, and don't respond well to requests. Last time for us!

Cozy and decorated in an après-ski theme. It's great for getting in the mood for a winter sports holiday. A disappointment was the music, which didn't match the atmosphere. When you're doing this theme, you need to have some après-ski music. The friendly service from Demi was excellent; she was attentive and kept a close eye on us to make sure we still had everything we needed. We had a platter of rolls as a starter, which was delicious. Lunch was also excellent, with warm Camembert with garlic and radish. Unfortunately, the celery wasn't fresh; it had dried-out edges and needed to be soaked in ice water to get it crispy, as did the carrot. My granddaughter and I enjoyed our lunch.

TERRIBLE! I've written hundreds of reviews that have been viewed millions of times, but I've never had such a bad meal. Sorry, but absolutely do not eat there!! We ordered the cheese fondue. It was a light yellow sludge that tasted only of warm flour, and it was truly disgusting. The waitstaff did their very best and is not to blame. The chef in charge (in this case, a man named "Bouke") wasn't even surprised by our complaint. He said he would fix it... We then saw him, through the open kitchen, add some grated cheese from a plastic bag to the yellow sludge, and after 10 minutes, the dish was put back on the warmer on our table... Unfortunately, what was supposed to be cheese fondue was, and remained, a tasteless lump of flour that no one ate after tasting. We were offered a cup of coffee on the house as consolation, but we declined this "great" offer. After paying the first 130 euros, we left the “cows and cheese” shop NEVER to return.

The food was delicious. The bavette was overcooked for what we ordered, but we apologized and got a new one. The carpaccio had too much cheese on it for our liking, but that's different for everyone. The seating is very pleasant, both indoors and outdoors. The staff are friendly.

We had a wonderful lunch at this restaurant. The unique interior exudes ambiance. Delicious bread and sandwiches. The welcome and service were excellent. Lunch was prepared quickly and served together. They checked a few times to make sure everything was to our liking. The only downside is that the kitchen staff don't change clothes in the kitchen, but in a separate changing room.

It used to be better! They changed something 2-3 months ago. Burgers are twice as small, fries are shared, and the salad with raisins is no longer tasty. It feels like McDonald's. ((( Such a shame. The service is good.

Yesterday we decided to celebrate a birthday with a party at Koeien en Kaas. Well, the cows were probably still grazing in the pasture when we arrived, because there wasn't much cheese or food for the first hour and a half. We arrived at 6:00 PM with a group of 10 people and four young children. The restaurant apparently thought we could entertain ourselves, because we had to collect the menus ourselves. I almost tipped myself for the service. The appetizer didn't arrive until 7:30 PM. That meant a 90-minute wait with children who were as patient as a cat in the bath. We politely asked twice if it could be moved up a bit. We were given hope, but no food. The main course arrived at 8:30 PM. One steak was still so rare, I think it bellowed at me. I returned it. The new steak bellowed even louder. We skipped dessert. Not because we didn't feel like it, but because it was almost midnight. And while the staff clearly listened to us, as a guest you felt more like an extra in a poorly directed slow-motion comedy. Ordering drinks was a challenge in itself. Walking to the bar, waving like you're at a festival, and hoping someone sees you. Conclusion: If you have too much time on your hands, enjoy watching your kids wait hungry, and fancy a game of steak bingo, then Koeien en Kaas is highly recommended. Otherwise, you're better off looking for a place where they actually understand that hospitality is a part of the hospitality industry.

We always loved eating here, but unfortunately, the quality has really deteriorated, and the lack of side dishes with main courses is a real shame. For both taste and value, it's more convenient to go to a Burger King, for example.

All tables were reserved because there was not enough staff. When we wanted to order there were no more hamburgers. And what we ordered was not of quality and took a very long time to arrive. What a bad place it has become.

I was initially satisfied with this bistro, now I have to take that back, the dishes are no longer complete, I ordered philycheese steak, you first got a dish with some vegetables and fries, now they throw a hamburger on your plate and that's it, you can order the rest for a fee, really bad this. It also took way too long, 40 minutes, before it arrived. Staff is inattentive, they don't come to you when you come to the terrace, if you order something extra they sometimes just forget it (herb butter), and that then costs with something to drink cheerfully 45, - per person. No, quite put off by this bistro that is going downhill fast. I give 2 stars because you have a nice place on the Rhine, but all in all it is a shame, this

We used to come here a lot and the food was pretty good, but last time we were surprised. We ordered the Cow and Cheese “Wagyu Burger” which was horrible to say the least. The burger was made of rubbery meat and had a horrible taste. There were no side dishes served with it and on top of all this experience they also charged us for the “Chef’s burger” which was €5 per burger more than the burger we ordered. I think we could have had a much better experience at McDonalds and it would have cost us half of what we paid at Cow and Cheese… Too bad… For us this was definitely the last time we went here

Haven't been here for a long time so I thought I'd go back again but unfortunately I didn't like it very much. We were helped quickly but the burgers we got were very bad. You could just tell that they weren't fresh but defrosted from the freezer. And you pay 24 euros per piece for the burger and you don't get any garnish at all. Literally just the burger. It's really gone downhill. For me this is really the last time I've been here. I'm not one to write reviews but you guys should do something about this. And hire staff who know what they're doing, 1 person didn't know anything and the other just forgets to ask things when ordering.

We regularly came to Cows and Cheese, which was always perfect. Went today and it was certainly not what it used to be, very poor service. Food is put on the table and they walk away, no cutlery, no fries or salad that was normally included (they are also not asked if you want this). Then we asked for it and it came when our main course was finished. Very inept staff , shame because it was always a very good thing.

This afternoon we wanted to have a drink and a nibble with our family of five by the water, so we chose Cows and Cheese because of the beautiful terrace. On the way there, the children fancied an ice cream, which they got at the nearby ice cream parlour. Once on the terrace it took almost 15 minutes before we were helped, halfway through taking our order the young lady decided to send us away because the children still had half an ice cream. She thought it was logical, because after all we weren't going to eat MCDONALD'S there either. We indicated that we were just going to order something and the children had an ice cream, which to our knowledge they did not have on the menu. We had to leave and were allowed to come back later. The whole tone was so guest-unfriendly that I was fed up with it and we went to a terrace where we were welcome and they understood that a paying guest is just a paying guest who simply orders something else after the ice cream. Not a smart move in my opinion, because next time we will skip this terrace anyway.

Enjoyed it 1st time. Unfortunately, significantly less for the 2nd time. Swordfish was too far from our table companion. My tenderloin was medium, while I asked for it raw. They also didn't know who had ordered medium or medium rare for the bavette. Shame. Service fine. Waitresses did a good job. No need to ask for attention, they were already there to ask if you wanted anything.

Niks mis met de locatie zeker met mooi weer zit je hier prima. Het bestellen van het eten duurt niet alleen lang maar als je een simpel gebakken eitje besteld krijg je hem gewoon half rauw op je brood. Ook dit is niet het einde van de wereld maar als he netjes aangeeft dat de ei nog rauw is dan wordt er eerst gevraagd of je hem ‘doorbakken’ wilt? Dit is natuurlijk vreemd aan gezien je gewoon een gaar ei wilt hebben. Vervolgens nemen ze hem mee en krijg hem na 5 minuten nog steeds rauw terug. Je krijgt dus een rauw ei voor een vrij hoog bedrag. Dus kort om, prima plek om te zitten eten echt bizar slecht.

Best Cows and Cheese. You are completely pricing yourself out of the market. It is really excessive what you ask for your dishes. The portions are also really very small. Still hungry after dinner. I was always a fan, but you guys are a bit of a faded glory. Nothing to the detriment of the staff. Those were great.

We went for a birthday celebration and we were recommended to come here. It was the worst steak I have had in a restaurant. It wasn't even cooked properly, it had a weird aftertaste and everyone in my party thought the same. N one will be coming back sadly. The service was VERY slow and it was not not worth the money. You can get a better steak if you cook it yourself!!

For a place that specializes in steaks they are doing a horrible job. We ordered chefs specialty for nearly 70€, ribeyes and other. We asked the steaks to be medium rare and they came raw, middle was still cold, all three steaks had the same issue, unedible. Once we complained, they took the steaks to cook longer, but that doesn’t work that way, the meat shrank and became completely chewy like a shoe leather. It is unbelievable to get this type of experience at a steak restaurant with such big prices. At least do the steak properly. For compensation we were offered a free coffee or tea, but all we wanted to do is leave. Eventually they deducted the cheapest steak from the bill. Will never ever coming back. If I could I would give the food 0 stars.

Review: from top service to disappointment I have enjoyed coming to KOEen en Kaas for years, where hospitality and personal attention have always been of paramount importance. Previously, the service was always fast, friendly and personal: you were welcomed and you really felt welcome. A permanent point of contact was appointed and suggestions for a sandwich with spreads with the drinks completed the experience. You did not have to ask for a drink, the permanent contact person ensured that you were always provided and/or asked in a timely manner if you wanted something to drink. Unfortunately, our visit tonight was a lot less positive. The personal attention we were used to was completely missing. We had to ask for the menu ourselves, no spreads were offered, and no extra drinks were requested with the starter or between dishes. It then took a very long time before our starter was cleared, and it was only when we asked for it ourselves that it was taken. What was especially disappointing was the response from the staff when we shared our experience. Instead of listening with understanding, they immediately entered into a discussion and busyness was used as an excuse. This is understandable, but not something that will help guests if it is only mentioned afterwards. A simple announcement upon arrival - that it is busy and the waiting times are longer than normal - could have prevented a lot of irritation.

We had a nice meal with cows and cheese. We chose a cheese soup and duck in advance. This was very tasty. Unfortunately we were placed at a row of tables with all people in pairs and the lady next to us was talking so amicably and the baby behind us was crying so loudly that we could not hear each other. This while in fact half the place was empty. We then asked for another spot and that was allowed. If we had been here immediately, this review would have been 5 stars. But the atmosphere in the restaurant was so different in these two places! My tip to the staff is to spread the people out a bit more. We had the chateaubriand as a main course. Even though we thought it was a bit overpriced, it was very tasty. As well as the wine we selected. We had the dessert of the month and unfortunately it was very disappointing. The mousse was really not tasty. All in all a great experience, certainly a nice restaurant if you sit in a suitable spot, friendly staff, slightly on the expensive side but a nice experience.

Total downer, better not have a meal here Last summer we had dinner at KOEen & Kaas Alphen aan den Rijn. My husband was not enthusiastic because he had already had a bad experience with lunch here, but we gave it another chance. Because I had not been pregnant for about 2 months (no worries, healthy child), I wanted to eat a steak, which was rare. The starters were tasty, the main courses took a while to arrive. When we asked about this, it took a while and then the main courses arrived. Unfortunately, the steak was dirty. It tasted like fish. Because I was still trying to get pregnant, I doubted whether it had something to do with that. So my husband took a bite of my steak and confirmed, it tasted like fish. Called the waiter, who went to get another person from the waiter. When I explained what was wrong, she repeated with a raised eyebrow and a sarcastic tone (which she tried to hide) "it tastes like fish?". The steak was taken away and I was given the explanation that the steak and the fish were prepared in the same smoker and that was probably why the steak tasted like fish (no excuses, just the explanation). I got a new piece of meat, but it was prepared differently to avoid the fishy taste. I mentioned again that I wanted the meat to be rare. When my husband was almost done with his meal, my steak arrived. Unfortunately this one was medium. I wanted to say something about this but my husband was done with it. The atmosphere was so ruined by the long wait, the attitude of the service (not all of them), the wrong main courses twice and the fact that my husband had already finished while I had just started. I reluctantly finished my dish, we paid and left. You can have a drink here on a summer day, but I would leave it at that.

We had a delicious meal at KOEen en Kaas in Alphen aan de Rijn. Why only 3 stars? 1 soup (the cheese soup) was cold but tasty. And there was a long hair in the truffle mayonnaise. The burgers were lukewarm and without taste. The service was apparently understaffed, we waited almost 90 minutes for our order. The staff was very friendly. All in all, the food was tasty, but maybe it was also because we waited so long hahah. We will come back again in the future. On a weekday.

Reservering gemaakt voor half acht, zaterdagavond 21 september. Tafel gekozen voor 4 volwassenen. Bij aankomst was onze tafel bezet, slecht begin, restaurant was hoofdzakelijk leeg. Andere tafels lijken meer op een breakfast bar, te hoog voor een gezellig diner. Dus maar buiten zitten aan het water. Stoelen erg oncomfortabel. Geen menu in het Engels, enkel Nederlands, maar dat was niet zo erg. Bestelling van rib-eye. Duurde een uur. Ik dacht nou zal het wel goed zijn. Het was even goochelen wie welke rib-eye had. Blijkt dat de serveerster ook niet weet wat ze in haar handen had, medium, well done of rare. Dus maar gokken. Dat was dus niet makkelijk, tenzij je de rib-eye doormidden snijdt. De kwaliteit van het vlees was ver te zoeken, beetje stug. De champignonsaus smaakte naar alles behalve champignonsaus, hetzelfde voor de pepersaus. Pepersaus leek en smaakte meer naar dikke jus. Had echt de indruk dat het personeel niet echt geïnteresseerd waren, om van de kok nog maar te zwijgen. 2 punten voor de moeite. Zeker niet het geld waard. Dus, eerste keer en nooit weer.

I looked at it for a while and finally decided to try this restaurant. This certainly did not disappoint us. We were kindly welcomed and shown to our place. The service was prompt and there were not too long gaps between orders. In addition to a delicious starter, we ordered the steak tasting as a main course. This is recommended for everyone! The meat was excellently prepared and therefore wonderfully tender. So if you want to enjoy a delicious piece of meat along the water, I definitely recommend this restaurant!

We had dinner here last night. The staff are friendly and the food was fine. What was a real downside is that it was clearly too busy for the staff. There were too few, many mistakes were made, the waiting times for the food were far too long and clearing the table also took more than 20 (!) minutes. Despite this, the staff did their best and apologized. We also hope that this was a snapshot and that things will go well next time. But this was very sloppy, the food was otherwise delicious! 😁

The sign at the front indicated to wait. Nobody came for over 15 minutes. We just walked into the restaurant ourselves. We should have walked away but we really wanted the Cheese fondue. Within 10 minutes there was a cheese fondue on our table with vegetables. It was tasteless, it didn't look neat and they clearly didn't put any effort into it. It looked very cheap and the vegaletables were cold from the fridge. It will kost you nearly €40, its a tourist trap. The staff is unfriendly and the toilets were dirty too.

Fantastic food and a fantastic spot on the water. The service is also very good and the staff is very attentive. Example: we asked for extra sauce and it was brought immediately. That is important, because otherwise it will be mustard after the meal. They completely understand that. We are also regularly asked if everything is to your satisfaction and it certainly was! We were told they had closed the kitchen 30 minutes prior and the lady bartender said the hours reflected on the website reflected what was possible, like they were willing to possibly serve that late, but we should have called to be sure. So, I thought it important to mention you should call if you are within an hour of the time posted, because it's just a reflection of what is in the realm of possibilities, not a guarantee of service. It's fibe, we spent nearly $300 across the sidewalk at Maggie Blues who also had posted they are open until 10pm and actually were open until 10pm.
