The food was terrible, not warm, not tasty, and very expensive, and the staff were not friendly. I would never eat there again.

Reserved with a request to sit on the terrace. The terrace was unavailable because it was reserved for another party. The food was good, the service reasonable, but the indoor climate was unbearable. A warning about this should also be given; even though the weather is very hot, this was too much. Opening a few fans or doors to let the air circulate would have helped.

The brisket was a bit too fatty for my taste. I expected that I would be more lean. They were very nice about it and gave me a free beer to compensate. Since half the brisket was fat, I left still hungry though. I would come back to try their burgers.

We received the wrong order twice. We had reserved for 6:30 PM and finally received our main course at 10:00 PM. The side dish was undercooked and tasted like nothing. The service was certainly friendly, but all in all, I held the debit card to the machine with a heavy heart.

Unfortunately, a disappointing experience. The service was slow; we had to wait quite a long time for both the menu and the food (45 minutes from arrival for a baguette). The picanha was difficult to cut through and quite tough. The taste was okay, but certainly not what you expect from a steak restaurant. The other dishes were also disappointing. The house steak was quite a chew. The carpaccio is a sad affair. The bavette, however, was good. Very noisy inside. For that €200, we could have eaten better somewhere else.

Overall, the experience was a bit disappointing considering the prices. We were charged €2 for tap water, which already set a questionable tone. The triple meat burger we ordered was missing one of the meats, which was frustrating, especially given the price. The cheese plate cost €17 but only included two types of cheese, with four small pieces in total, not really worth it in terms of quantity or variety. As for the burgers, they were okay, but nothing special in terms of quality or taste. On a positive note, the waiter was friendly and smiling. However, good service alone doesn’t make up for the mismatch between price and quality of the food. Overall, it didn’t feel like good value for money.

Hospitality is our top priority, along with excellent culinary dishes.

The main course was cold and gray, with very little red meat, and for so much money. Seriously understaffed; there was only one person upstairs who had to do everything, and you can't do that as an owner. Shame on you. Someone who actually cared about their business would have come over and helped. The welcome was good, so I gave them one star.

After a day trip to Gouda, we went to The Barn for dinner. We immediately fell in love with the location. The friendly staff guided us to a table in the restaurant and chose a cheese fondue and a steak. Both were very tasty. The steak was delicious, as was the fondue. Finally, I chose the chocolate flowerpot for dessert. Personally, I found it a bit too sweet, but it was fun to try, especially since the entire flowerpot is made of chocolate. I'd love to come back!

We both had a burger, but it wasn't great—not juicy, a bit dry, and raw. Neither of us finished it. When we collected our plates, the server asked if it was good. I said "not really, but okay." My answer was ignored. It's a shame. The carpaccio was very good, though. I wouldn't recommend the burger.

A decent restaurant. The dining room has a unique design. The food is decent, but there's room for improvement. The service is rather sluggish. It's a bit dark. On the top floor, when someone climbs the stairs, the table shakes, which is unpleasant. The price/quality ratio is satisfactory (the prices are a bit high). It's worth reserving in advance.

We had a bavette steak here with port. The service was excellent, and they take great care of you! And the service and quality are excellent! Highly recommended. The best part is that just behind all the flashy restaurant signs, you'll find this gem in a side street.

I've rarely had such a delicious steak tartare. The burgers were also very good. We did, however, have to wait a long time for our food and drinks.

I searched for a nice meat restaurant on Google and found The Barn. The atmosphere and service were perfect, but the food was much worse. The starter was good, but the meat on the main course is cooked in the oven, not on the grill or in a pan. The meat was completely gray and tasteless. In other words, if you want good meat, I'd recommend eating elsewhere. I also find the price-quality ratio very poor if the meat is very gray and tasteless. We were charged €491 for the starter and main course for five people.

More expensive and much lower quality since it stopped being cow and cheese. We had to wait a really long time for our food, over an hour. And what we did get was mediocre. One was even cold. The staff was friendly.

Unfortunately, it was a bad experience. The problems mainly revolved around the main course. First, we had to wait an extremely long time for our main course. Other people in the restaurant also complained about this. Once we finally had our main course, there was a large piece of chamois in the steak. This was dismissed as something that should be in a piece of meat... Which is true, with some fat, but this was chamois. I also found it strange that we were given a basket of bread as an appetizer without asking if we wanted it. First, it wasn't tasty, and second, they charged us for it anyway. We won't be coming here again. That's a shame, because in the past (when it was still called Cows and Cheese), we loved coming here.

Had a very bad experience. We went out to eat with 3 adults and 1 child of 4. The carpaccio was decent as a starter; it was very thick, which is fine, but when you are given a slicing knife to cut it, it doesn't work. The main course was also very bad. The Picanha was very tasteless, tough, and impossible to cut. Additionally, it was very raw and cold; we asked the kitchen to cook it a little longer. Afterward, it came back the same, and we had to leave it. The same story for the dry-aged rib eye: little flavor and difficult to cut. All in all, just not tasty, and when you still have to pay 170 euros for a starter and main course for 3 people, I feel more robbed than like I had a nice evening. If you serve a raw hamburger to a 4-year-old, I do wonder if you realize what you are doing as a restaurant. The chimichurri, by the way, was delicious, and the atmosphere is great too! All in all, a very bad experience.

It had to be five stars across the board. The service was excellent, great building with really relaxed atmosphere, and the food was amazing. We had the meat and cheese board. All delicious and the cheese soup was a revelation. Then we had the chefs choice of three steaks that came with fries and vegetables and we had granny's gravy. All perfectly cooked and very very tasty 😋. The espresso martini was also pretty great. And they let us take our dog in, in her buggy. We're tempted to go back tomorrow.

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, we went out for dinner for the first time as a couple. For starters, we had a cheese tasting, followed by cheese fondue for two, plus a small meat platter and a bottle of wine. It was very good and tasty. Friendly and polite service. I do have a few small tips: certain areas could use a bit more lighting, the waiter could speak a little more quietly, and his view of the guests could be a bit sharper. There was one small point: we had to ask for a spoon for the soup with the starter; of course, it can happen that they forgot one. We will definitely be back. Nice place, nice atmosphere. Several restaurants in Gouda were completely booked. We had eaten here several times in the past (cheese and cows) and actually wanted to try something different. The starter was perfectly fine (cheese platter €14). Main courses were less so. The meat dishes, although reasonably priced, were sparsely garnished. The cheese dish was served cold and therefore rock-hard on the salad. After we mentioned this, action was taken immediately. The result was that we both ended up eating alone. Not very sociable. No apology or anything similar from the very friendly staff. Dessert: Lemon cake with ice cream was delicious. But I won't be going here again for a real steak 😢

We initially thought you were no longer around, but it turned out you had made an independent fresh start under a new name, and the experience was truly top-notch! Super friendly and hospitable staff; you can tell they do this with passion and want to go the extra mile to ensure you leave feeling satisfied. The restaurant's ambiance remains amazing. We ate at The Barn tonight, but unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations at all. My cheese fondue was served lukewarm and was so salty that I wondered if the chef had accidentally knocked over the salt shaker. The side dishes – tomatoes and cucumber – seemed to have passed their prime last week, which made the whole experience even more unpleasant. I had ordered extra cold cuts to liven things up a bit, but they did not match the taste (or lack thereof) of the fondue at all. A waste of money. My boyfriend had the short ribs, which were cooked fine in themselves, but here too, things went wrong with the side dishes. The fries were so extremely salty that he wondered if kidney failure was listed as a side dish on the menu. All in all, a disappointing evening. An extra point for the atmosphere and service, but unfortunately, as for the food, it is really not recommended.

Gezellig restaurant met vriendelijke bediening, maar helaas moeten wij ons aansluiten bij alle (!) kritiek over de Zwitserse kaasfondue/papje en het zielige zure hapje eekhoorntjesbrood. Maar het meest triest is dat er dus met al die eerdere kritiek niets wordt gedaan...heel jammer!

Helaas een zeer teleurstellende ervaring. We hebben hier met vier personen gegeten, en mijn bestelling van gamba’s was ronduit slecht. Er zaten enkele gamba’s tussen die alleen uit een lege staart bestonden. Nadat ik dit aangaf, werd er snel een nieuw bordje gebracht, wat op zich een nette reactie was. Helaas waren deze gamba’s nog rauw en hadden ze een vreemde smaak. Dit was veruit de slechtste maaltijd die ik ooit heb gehad. Voor mij is dit restaurant geen tweede bezoek waard.

Hoofdgerecht cheeseburger was een wit broodje met wat stukjes vlees, een blaadje sla en een klein beetje honing-mosterd saus. Geen kaas, geen ui geen pepertje zoals wel op de menukaart stond. Het was veel meer brood dan vulling. En het beetje vlees wat er op zat was nog lauw ook en ook flauw van smaak. Patat kleefde aan elkaar en klein bakje coleslaw was zuur. En dat voor €24,50. Bij de MacDonalds is je burgermenu nog uitgebreider! Heel slecht. Bavette was taai. Bediening was wel vriendelijk maar niet alert. Alles duurde erg lang. Geen aanrader. Wij gaan in ieder geval nooit meer terug.

Super leuke en gezellige plek. Hoge verwachtingen maar ze mogen de kaasfondue geen kaasfondue noemen. Het is een soort korrelige bechamel saus en het smaakt niet naar kaas helaas

Tegenvaller. Het restaurant ziet er knus uit en de bediening was allervriendelijkst maar als het eten niet goed is dan houdt het op. De bavette was klein en daarbij een minibakje coleslaw en een paar frietjes. Ik had me enorm verheugd op kaasfondue. Kaasfondue in Gouda moet goed gaan zou je denken. Nope. Ik kreeg een bakje lauwe bloempap met vaag een kaassmaak. De structuur was melig, meer bloem dan iets anders. Ook na nog een keer opwarmen in de keuken niet lekker. Het brood erbij was raar zoetig en de aardappeltjes half rauw en ijskoud. Het supplement eekhoorntjesbrood voor €4,50 was een mayonaiseschaaltje met 3 zurige stukjes paddenstoel in een zurig drabje. Echt heel erg jammer.

Outside of cheese fondue is not recommended, candles went out every time. It also took a very long time before someone came to put the candles back on, so it was moved inside. The person who served our table was very inexperienced and knew little about the menu. Had to ask everything, even simple things.

Dear visitors of the Koeien restaurant. A really nice ambience that magnetically attracts people from the street. A strong and unpleasant experience at the same time. The girls who serve are very pleasant, but it is extremely difficult to order and get the dish you wanted. At first, I thought it was a misunderstanding, but when the confusion happened four times, I realized that my bad intentions were more than futile. The bill was almost double what was expected. I am sorry that this place and tradition do not have an ethical way of treating guests. For the sake of the overall impression and the wish that this place has the service it deserves, I give a modest rating. Good luck.

Had an unexpected meal at KOE&Kaas Gouda and had a delicious meal. The ambiance is cozy, yet spacious. The service at our table was present but not intrusive. The choice of dishes on the menu is well balanced and the staff is well informed about the preparation of the dishes. It was a pleasant and tasty evening, highly recommended for an evening of relaxing enjoyment.

the waitress asked if i wanted sauce with my steak ...but i didnt know it was extra 4.50 euros ,ok but the sauces were awful the steak was not tasty ,the fries and truffle mayo were tasty but the rest was not. 🤔 Аnd this is not a restaurant level, if you have wine 27 euros and water 7 euros, make the food at the same level 👍🏻 The waiters were friendly, they passed everything on to the kitchen, but the dishes were terrible, the price and quality did not match ... I don't recommend eating here, it's not restaurant level!!! French fries and mayonnaise were tasty, but the meat and sauce were not, and the cabbage was bitter and old.The steak was tough It was our anniversary, it's a shame that we chose you!!!

We hadden verschillende soorten kaasfondue. Alleen die met blauwe kaas was nog enigszins eetbaar. De andere twee, smerig gewoon, heeft niets met kaas te maken, uit een heel goedkoop pak? Jammer want kaasfondue maken (met de goede ingredienten) is juist zo simpel, en dan heerlijk! Met het dessert ging het ook al mis, kreeg het verkeerde geleverd. Zonde van het geld en niet voor herhaling vatbaar!

The food here was very mediocre to say the least. The ribeye was super tough and had a lot of tendons in it. When ordering, I was asked what kind of sauce I wanted with my steak. I chose a pepper sauce that was absolutely not tasty and tasted stale as if it came from my grandmother's attic. But what was most disappointing about this was that they were charged €4.5 extra for this stale sauce!!! In addition, there was hardly any response to my comment that the meat was tough and the sauces were not tasty. That means I can't give more than 2 stars for the service.

The food is decent and the place is very nice. It was quite busy when we arrived. I didn't make a reservation, so the staff told us we could only have a table 90 minutes, which was fine for us. Only thing: we had to wait very long for our orders to arrive. Our dessert didn't make it on time.

They looked like they were from the week before. The meat spot was also not a great success, not for us a second time. Had a delicious meal last night during Gouda's evening of lights. A three-course menu was prescribed with tasty dishes, very tasty and good! There was a downside... the pepper mill had an extra taste, it was quite moldy, which was of course reported to the service. Hopefully the rest of the pepper mills will also be checked preventively to avoid further disappointment...

1 of the better restaurants in Gouda. Excellent food and good pace between dishes. Atmosphere and warmth in these colder months were pleasant. We were a group of 8 people.

Great food ! Vegan burger, XXL carpaccio and bavette steak. All very tasty. Desserts, tripple chocolate and summer triffle. Luxurious desserts. Very friendly staff. And the location in a very old building was wow!

Had dinner here for the first time with friends on Saturday evening. Lady at the table, super friendly and hospitable. Cocktails less tasty, we had an amaretto sour but little sour and a difference in quantity in the glass compared to our table companions. Salmon carpaccio had little taste, wasabi dressing/mayo tasted minimal. Cheese fondue as a starter was delicious. Hand-beaten carpaccio in combination with steak tartare was really work, a lot of sinews in the meat and steak tartare did not taste good unfortunately. Unfortunately, the summer trifle for dessert did not make up for it. We had a table near the stairs at the top, and at the front of De Zalm there was a wedding and the guests had to pass by our table the entire evening and it was very restless and noisy. Apparently it had to do with a renovation, but it gave us a different spot. Many points for improvement, hopefully you will benefit from this.

Nice restaurant with attractive decor. There is plenty to choose from on the menu. I ordered a normal burger and my girlfriend the veggie burger. When we received the food, we noticed that the 'vegetarian' burger was red on the inside, so it was absolutely real meat. We had to report it twice before anything was done with it. Eventually the chef came to apologize, which we thought was very nice, but of course a mistake can happen. It's a shame that we had to eat separately because of this. My burger was fine and the dessert was also okay but not special.
