"Krua Thai" Classic in Nieuwmarkt/Lastage

I'm Thai and I can say that the food here taste really lovely and authentic. The staffs are all friendly, professional and attentive. The service is fast and of great quality. After visiting Amsterdam for a few days, having Thai food at Krua Thai made me feel like home, it was very satisfying and comforting. Thank you so much : )

Food tasted good. But they mandated main dish for each person in the group. We ended up not trying any of the starter or other options as the main dish was a lot to finish. People there classified us as non-vegetarians/non-beef eaters just by looking at us which made us feel quite awkward. The overall experience was less than okayish though this place had best reviews.

Fast, friendly and good food options. Cosy and easy to converse in a relaxed warm atmosphere. Will visit again.

When deciding to go for Thai food in a European capital, naturally, expectations are low. I can say, that without a doubt, this is an all star Thai restaurant on par, if not better, than many of the restaurants in Bangkok. Krua Thai has managed to blend the best of both words. The uncle in back cooking over an open flame to the high quality meats and fresh ingredients of the Netherlands. I appreciate the boldness of the following statement and I’ll say it anyway: after having lived in south east Asia for the last 10 years, I probably have had higher than average Thai food consumption - and I have to say that this was the best I’ve had out of Bangkok.

The food was ok, but underwhelming considering the price. 40eur for a pad thai, singha beer, and mango sticky rice. Staff was friendly. The restaurant felt too crowded and a bit chaotic. It's not a bad place by any means, yet I don't see myself returning.

This is the best Thai food I’ve had outside of Thailand - and I live in South East Asia. First - the staff is lovely and helpful. Food comes out quickly, everyone is friendly and cheerful. Second - the food is so lovely. Genuine Thai flavors and ingredients, this is not watered down for the Dutch. The meat is fresh and the sauces and light and clean, not fried and greasy. Finally - the portion of rice is true Thai hospitality. Family size sharing bowls, it was fluffy, never sticky, and we never hit the bottom of the bowl. Go here immediately.

One of the most authentic places I had dinner in Amsterdam. First of all, this place is very central. Staff is super friendly and explaining everything in detail. Menu-wise they have an extensive menu with a lot of stuff. You can give their soup a chance since it is somewhat hot an spicy. Meat based Thai food is fantastic. Overall such a good experience.

Apparently this is a go to spot in Amsterdam for Thai food. I’m happy I finally found it because I will be back. This is one of the best thai spot I’ve ever tried and it feels like you are literally in Thailand!! Everything was super flavourful and I really appreciated the way they lay down all the plates in an elevated surface - very convenient to share. The staff members were very kind and attentive. I highly recommend and I will be back to try more.

A piece of Thailand in the Netherlands, it's so goed that it just take you back there. Staff is really nice. Remember to make a reservation before showing up (we show up without one but still got a place).

A charming restaurant with delicious, well-seasoned dishes. There were eight of us and we sat together at a long table upstairs. The staff was friendly and explained the menu clearly.

Such a cool place to visit and eat. Great service from the staff who squeezed us into a busy time and the food was to die for. Sadly, I left my baseball cat behind, which was the only bummer for the night. Highly recommend it otherwise.

Food was fine but the portion is so small, for the same price (20 euros) I could get a large bowl at some other Thai restaurants… The cashier also overcharged 0.5 euros which I don’t understand, because I was splitting the bill with my friend and how does 70.5 divide into 30.5+30.5🤷‍♀️ I know 0.5 euros is probably nothing but it just makes me uncomfortable

A lovely restaurant with delicious and flavorful food. There were 14 of us and we were seated upstairs at one long table. The staff explained the food and were very friendly.

We went for dinner and were treated wonderfully from the start. They were attentive to detail. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was great. Definitely a must-try in Amsterdam.

Thai food needs reservations and is delicious

Thai restaurant located in the Waterlooplein area of ​​Amsterdam, very close to the National Opera and Ballet. The restaurant offers a wide variety of Thai dishes. I ordered Pad Thai Kai (chicken Pad Thai) and a small Kao Pad Gai for dinner. The Pad Thai was delicious and the portion was very generous (you can see it in the photos). The rice was good but lacked salt. The portion was also huge. I ordered the small one and had more than half left over. The staff was very attentive at all times. Despite not having a reservation, they found a space for me and served me fairly quickly. Without a doubt, a highly recommended Thai restaurant in Amsterdam.

Update: I have tried some other Thai Restaurant with the soup Tom Kha Gai, I have to admit that this soup taste better sweet, therefore I score it now lower. It’s just my taste, for your reference. ——- Original post: We were recommended by a Thai friend as he said this is really authentic. After walking in, this is immediately a restaurant feeling, rather than steer food or fast food Asian restaurant. The employees are really kind and responsive, when I tried to order the dessert in the beginning he stopped me and asked me to wait until if I would be full after the starter and main course, really nice from him. We ordered 2 starters, Tom Kha Kai (Coconut Chicken Soup) and Prawn Sate. My focus is on Tom Kha Kai, I tried first time in Austria Innsbruck, and fell in love with it immediately, it was very coco taste and a bit sweet. However, this time, the taste is a bit different, here, you taste a more source side from lemon, but overall, it is also good as I have a wide spectrum for food. Besides, I only have 2 time experience and cannot judge. Main dish were: steamed fish with lemon, and fried beef with red pepper and garlic. Include an extra side dish of stir fried vegetables. Fish was sour sweet taste, and beef was really tender. I have only one recommendation is if the fish filet could be tighter, now for me is a bit too soft. But again, this is not a complain, it is great. We also ordered an extra side dish of fried mix vegetables, also very nice and fresh. For what we order, the amount of the food for 2 person would be appropriate, not too much and not too less. So if you are a big eater, probably you need more. But norms would be enough. Totally cost we paid 91.5 euros. I will come back definitely.

A lovely Thai restaurant with one of the best service teams we’ve experienced during our food exploration in Amsterdam. The chef-owner and his team brought us the famous Thai hospitality, something that truly outshines most restaurants in this city. After a disappointing first dinner elsewhere, we returned here for our second dinner, and it reminded me why Thai hospitality is so special. As a Thai food lover and a Malaysian restaurant owner myself, I can say with certainty: nothing compares. Chef Prasong (if I remember correctly) even walked us out personally after our meal - la small but meaningful gesture that reflects his passion as a true restaurateur. Service is all that makes customers returning which I will in my next travel back to Amsterdam.

It was a pleasant evening, and the outside area is also a lovely place for a stroll, making it ideal. I recommend it if you want to try something different.

Had a lovely time at Krua Thai! We were a big group (8 people) and were given a nice table upstairs. Although it was slightly cramped, the atmosphere was cozy, so it didn't bother us. All the dishes we tried were flavourful and the portions were great! Including the appetizers and a rice dish, we ordered around 12 dishes and it was really filling. The service was welcoming and friendly as well. Finally, although the dishes might seem on the pricier side, it was value for money for a big group like ours. Would be happy to return!

One of the dishes you definitely should try is Meang Kham – A Thai Flavor Explosion in One Bite Meang Kham is a traditional Thai snack. Served on wild pepper leaves (cha phlu), each leaf becomes a natural wrapper for a vibrant mix of ingredients that hit every taste note—sweet, salty, sour, spicy, and bitter.

FOOD POISONING!! FOOD POISONING!! I dined here last Saturday night with two friends and, on the waiter's recommendation, ordered their signature dish, the curry with king prawns. When it was served, I thought it smelled strange, but I'd never experienced that before, so I didn't send it back. However, I think if I could smell it at all in the curry, both the chef and the wait staff would have definitely been able to detect it. I was sick in bed for two days, constantly going to the toilet. Hopefully, I'll feel better today. It's REALLY awful that you serve spoiled food to your customers!!

Very good thai food, waiter was very nice and friendly. We had a good time. Tables are a bit small if your order food to share. Portions are reasonable for the price you pay. Loved the papaya salad, however i did miss the dried shrimp (i can imagine it is hard to get in NL, but it does finish the dish).

Small cosy restaurant... Food was nice, large portion of Pad Thai.. Larb was also good - could have been a bit more spicy, but the flavours were good and light, well balanced Only let down was the rice, a little dry and lumpy, still ok, just not up to the level of everything else.. The plate warmers don't work 🤪.. hardly any difference it temp, hold my hand on it, only just above room temp, just an observation - I don't care about it. Friendly and attentive staff

Didn’t know what to do for dinner. With only 3 nights in Amsterdam. We are quite discerning about Thai back in Australia. We chose Krupa Thai based on the reviews and it didn’t disappoint. Great staff engagement, great food and a great little restaurant. Although we only shared an entree of Spring Rolls, which were really fresh, and then shared a green chicken curry- equally as great. By the way the orchid is real.

We loved everything we ordered! The chicken satay had such good flavor and was cooked perfectly. The Garlic Beef (#50) was my absolute favorite. I think I’d eat anything they put that sauce on. I’d eat the garnish if it was covered in that sauce. Our server was so good and very polite. We didn’t have to wait long at all for our food. I highly recommend this place.

I don’t usually write reviews, but after experiencing the Pad Thai and spring rolls here, I had to share. Simply put, this place blew me away. The Pad Thai was nothing short of perfection—beautifully balanced, rich yet light, with that perfect hint of sweetness and spice. The noodles were cooked just right, the protein was tender and flavorful, and the fresh lime and crushed peanuts on the side elevated the dish to another level. You can taste the care in every bite. As for the spring rolls—wow. Crispy on the outside, fresh and vibrant inside, with a dipping sauce that I honestly could drink straight (no shame!). By far one of the most authentic Thai restaurants I have experienced in Europe! The food was delicious! And the staff is absolutely amazing, warm and friendly as you’d imagine. The recommendations were on point, they have a variety of vegetarian options as well to choose from. Service was quick. It gets busy, please make reservations.. Recommendations- Prawn in pepper and chilli oil, mushroom soup, green Thai curry with rice, pad Thai noodles and dessert wine to end it with. The chef was kind enough to send us some chilli oil along with the food.

This is a popular Thai restaurant near the National Opera. Although it is a two-story building, it is small and has a homely atmosphere. The service staff were full of hospitality and made me feel very welcome, and I was able to spend a warm time there. The food was very delicious and very reasonably priced for Amsterdam, where eating out is expensive.

I love Thai cuisine, and I try Thai restaurants wherever I go. Krua Thai is an excellent one. The food is delicious. The staff is welcoming and speaks fluent Dutch and English, which is helpful for guests who need a bit of introduction to Thai dishes. The quality-to-price ratio is perfect. During my last stay in Amsterdam, I dined at Krua Thai twice, and I am sure I will return the next time I am in town.

We had a deeply disappointing experience while dining on the first floor of this restaurant, all because of one middle-aged man in a white chef’s coat with glasses hanging from his chest. What was supposed to be a lovely dinner turned into an upsetting and uncomfortable evening because of his behavior. This man made it painfully obvious that he harbors racist attitudes. Throughout our meal, we watched him greet and warmly interact with every white customer—checking in with them, carefully explaining dishes, even feeding food to them at the table. In stark contrast, he completely ignored our table from start to finish. We had a reservation for three, and two of us arrived first and placed our order while our third friend was still on the way. Not only did he refuse to engage with us at all, but the only time he did approach was to suddenly confront us in a rude, accusatory tone, demanding: “Are you sure your friend is coming? Are you sure? This is a table for four—are you certain someone else is coming?” The most frustrating part? This man is Asian himself, running an Asian restaurant, yet openly and shamelessly discriminates against fellow Asians. It’s outrageous and infuriating. I strongly urge all Asians to steer clear of this place. It’s run by someone who has internalized racism to the point of actively disrespecting his own community. This was one of the most unpleasant dining experiences we’ve ever had. BTW, we ordered more food than anyone else we saw in the entire restaurant.🙃

The food is soso, but what is worst is their service as always, I witnessed something extremely unprofessional today. The staff were aggressively questioning a guest at the next table, repeatedly asking why they were sitting there—even though it was clear the person had limited mobility. They showed zero empathy and were downright rude. They were also impatient and unfriendly toward us. I would definitely not recommend this place to any tourists!

Wonderful food!! Everything! Everything we had was tasty! The waiters made a strong impression as well, giving you a feeling of eating at home (people here might not be used to the waiter asking you finish your plate 😂） But it gives me a “home” feeling. Love it!

My partner and I visited Amsterdam 5 years ago and visited Krua Thai twice. Back then we both said it was the best Thai food we'd ever tasted. Fast forward 5 years and we came back to Amsterdam and were very happy this place was still there! Once again, the food was incredible. Can't recommend enough. Great service, great food. You will not be disappointed.
