OCHA Thai Restaurant in Nieuwmarkt/Lastage

My third time here and it is so good every time! I have tried the green curry with shrimp, pad thai, papaya salad and the beef with basil and peppers. It is so good that I make it a point to come back here every time I am in Amsterdam! Highly recommend and is worth any wait time. The restaurant itself is cozy and homey, the people who work there are welcoming and friendly every time. Thank you so much again for a wonderful experience! I also appreciate that they will actually make the food very spicy, which I really appreciate! :)

The Thai food here is really delicious... often busy but definitely cozy

The food was AMAZING!! The place is small and the kitchen is open, so there's a strong smell of spices and everything... otherwise, I loved it.

I wish I'd taken a few photos! On the recommendation of our host, four of us stopped here for an easy dinner on our first night in town. We were fortunate to get a table right away, as the relatively small space was fully occupied for our entire visit. There were also quite a few folks coming to pick up take-out orders. We ordered 4 varied dishes (meat/seafood/veggie), some chicken satay and water (no alcohol served). The food was all we needed, tasty and we could watch the cooks in the kitchen at their work. The servers and staff were all great; friendly and chatty. We really enjoyed it here and would have come back on a longer stay.

Not sure about the hype n the reviews. I went in as a solo based on reviews. The food was ‘ok’. I ordered chicken satay, and green curry with shrimp. The chicken was a little dry and the green curry was not the best I have eaten. Seating was tight as well. The wait staff was pleasant. I will pass the next time I am in town and will try another place.

2 Pad thai with almost no spice nor flavour, and the coconuts soups taste way better than the clear soup. We came for the price ratio but wont come back

This place is amazing! We came in right before closing with 8 people on Kings Day Eve. Not only did they seat us but served us the best quality Thai food. Every dish we ordered was to perfection. Kacey our waitress was amazing I can’t recommend this place enough!

Amazing food and service. We stopped here on a whim as everything was closing. Casey sat 8 of us thankfully in a small quaint place. The kitchen is in the dining room. We ordered 6 dishes family style and a couple apps. Food was absolutely fantastic. Came out quickly and was cheap in comparison to other places we’ve been. Casey spend some time chatting with us, she couldn’t have been nicer. it’s her family’s restaurant. She made some good recommendations and we all left very happy and very full. Easily top 5 places I’ve eaten. Dutch pancakes are not worth the trouble, just eat Thai

Nice little Thai restaurant! The space is rather small, but it works well. The food was very nice, especially the chicken fried rice, which was delicious. Just a heads up that they do not serve alcoholic beverages here.

Amazing and really authentic food! The staff is always taking care of you and you can see they’re having fun working. Feels always good to eat in this tiny cozy place!

It's incomprehensible why this place is so hyped. The service was unfortunately a bit incompetent, or perhaps overworked, or simply unmotivated. The food had nothing to do with Thai cuisine. The waitress said, "Pad Krapaow isn't chopped," and I agreed. But what arrived was a stir-fry with beans, bell peppers, onions, Thai basil, and chicken breast that resembled frozen meat. The taste was nowhere near that of pad krapaow. I also ordered the laab, which unfortunately also bore no resemblance to the original beef and mint dish. It was completely lacking in spice. After I finished the chilies, the friendly old woman made fun of me but didn't ask if I needed anything else. It's a shame; I was hoping for some authentic Thai cuisine. "They don't usually serve eggs with rice..." I should have left quickly.

We had a wonderful meal. Authentic Thai dishes. In a Thai atmosphere. Delicious curries. Definitely worth a try. I'll definitely be back when I'm in Amsterdam. Thank you, we had a wonderful evening with delicious food.

Such a shame, we wanted to eat there today, it was packed, no room. First of all, two tables were reserved for acquaintances, a bit strange because reservations are not possible, but if we were to walk for 10 minutes and come back, there would be a table free for us, but no, the table was taken. I won't try it again.

Excellent Thai food in a central location near Chinatown. The dishes were delicious and freshly prepared, and the prices were fair. Seating is limited, so you might have to wait a short while. Unfortunately, the restroom was out of order at the time of our visit, but this didn't detract from the overall very positive experience.

Again, we had a super nice dinner there. It can never go wrong and always worth to wait for a table. The food is always on point and amazing.

We went for dinner just before closing time, and we were a large group (18 people). They served us and let us stay longer. The food was very good, and the prices were reasonable. The woman who runs the place is very friendly and helped us with everything; she was patient when we ordered and when the bill came.

You know the food is good when you walk in, see the kitchen and the food being prepared, and there are 3 women running the business. Very small restaurant but very good food. You see a lot of food being taken out, another reason to think you'd leave quite satisfied. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Service is so nice!! The lady helped me in a big crisis and chose the dish for me! Such a cozy atmosphere and the food was so good!! Definitely recommend even though there wasn't much space

This is a lovely small restaurant with really good thai food and it isnt too expensive. The staff are friendly and the service is quick. It reminded me of a little homely restaurant. This was my favourite meal in Amsterdam!

Very good food. A large group of people came in after we ordered and they all got their food before us. Ours was not even getting cooked yet, they started to cook it after the big group got their food, had to wait about 40 minutes after the big group got theirs. So total wait was around 1h and no real effort to make up for it, not sorry just attitude. We decided to take it home and received half of a normal portion as i’ve eaten at this place before.

Disappointed. Food was burned and the waitress refused to do anything about it. The flavours were completely off. Tried pad thai, Tom yam and lab kai. Nothing of it had the right flavours.

We had dinner here one time during our stay in Amsterdam and thought the food was good (the beef could have been more tender though). The restaurant itself is pretty small. Price is okay, we paid 34EUR.

Really delicious food and really for an amazing price in my opinion. So much flavor and the atmosphere is really so nice! It's cozy and the people are so nice. And just kidding, I don't like spicy at all, she would add some extra spiciness to it and then I could handle it 😀 Of course I got it the way I wanted and it was fantastic and delicious. Otherwise I can't say really a nice experience. The mango juice is also a delicious drink.

Excellent Thai food has never been so tasty

The food was good; there was suspicion of discrimination against Chinese people. We obviously ordered the food first, but everyone who came later came to eat without us. There were only 6-7 tables; I was overcharged EUR 0.5 (I didn’t argue with her later). Chinese compatriots, please be careful!

For me the best Thai ever. Small business that gives you nice contact with other guests. The food is always delicious! And the girls are sweet and funny!

No need to worry about bringing cash anymore as they now accept debit cards (maybe credit too, I didn't check). Their food is yummy as ever and the lovely owners/staff will make you feel at home.

Super cozy restaurant. Not a lot of space, but enough to just sit comfortably during the week. Me and my girlfriend both had a drink, a main course and one starter shared. It was very tasty and such a good price. We spent 20 euros per person and it was more than worth it. I recommend eating here. The people are very nice.

The food was a bit too spicy to my taste but that might be ordering the wrong option for myself. I had Pla Raad Prik as a main course which is fish based. Fried rolls were my favorite. I recommend the place for the real Thai cuisine lovers.

We had a pad thai here, it was delicious, service is fast and great, fresh ingredients, 10/10.

The food was awesome made by the nicest Thai ladies, the best and quickest pad thai of my life.

Delicious original Thai food with cooked by ladies, with fresh ingredients. The place is small but practical; and humble. If you mind the smell of food, this place is not for you, as it is small and the kitchen is right inside where people sit. However, it is not a fatty smell and does not sit on your clothes.

2024/2/2 - The taste is not bad. The price is not bad considering the price.

This small restaurant is cozy, has delicious affordable food and the ladies who run this restaurant know what service is.

Great (relatively cheap) food, lovely staff. We ordered a couple of different dishes, and I would definitely recommend the vegetable tom ka kai soup and the Pad Thai Tjee if you're not into the spicy stuff. The benches and chairs were quite harsh to the butt though, so I wouldn't expect to spend too long here.

Delicious food and a lovely, cosy atmosphere!

This is what would be called A Hole in the Wall (a Canadian/US saying). However, don't let the look or size (very small) deceive you. The food is incredibly fresh and tasty and very reasonably priced. The staff are hard working and friendly and there was a line up out the door waiting to get in. If you are in the mood for Thai in Amsterdam, you won't be disappointed. The one downside is that they are not licensed. It would have been nice to have a beer with our meal but we survived without it.

Friendly staff; tasty food and with lots of variety; affordable prices; food was served very quickly. The restaurant is quite small but cozy. We’ll come back.
