Las Carretas - Oldenzaal in Wijk 01 Binnenstad

Be careful with allergies. Even though we indicated we wanted a dish without onions or garlic due to allergies, it was chock full of both. We confronted the server about this, who said all he could do was inform the kitchen, which he did. The response was rather nonchalant, but this is simply a health risk. I don't like leaving reviews (especially negative ones), but in this case, it's important to inform other visitors. We immediately left and won't be back. In response to the owner: The review is intended for Las Carretas in Oldenzaal, which is now temporarily closed. Our experience was last summer.

The food was very bad. Extremely salty ribeye, service asked every 15 minutes if we wanted something to drink. (While we still had some) Don't complain, but this was really bad. At checkout we were also asked casually if we had enjoyed it.

Het eten was erg slecht. Ontzettend zoute ribeye, bediening vraagt om de 15 minuten of we nog wat te drinken wouden. (Terwijl we nog wat hadden) Klaag niet snel maar dit was bar en bar slecht. Bij afrekenen werd ook nog doodleuk gevraagd of het gesmaakt had.

Sadly, this Mexican restaurant has had its day. No more nachos as a starter. Ordered the text special, and the steak that came with it was very small and tough; I don't think it was even a steak. We had to ask for fries, but I think they forgot. No mayonnaise was served, while other tables did. The spare ribs were still very good and tasty. Too bad.

Easily the top dining experience we had during the whole trip to the Netherlands. Food quality and taste are the best we tried so far from Eindhoven to Oldenzaal. If you are ever in the neighborhood I highly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent Mexican restaurant. The meat was cooked excellently, nice and tender and even the chicken was not dry and nicely seasoned. We didn't think it was spicy enough, which was easily solved with a bowl of extra jalapeños. Definitely recommended to eat here. Personally, I would like it if there was something new or contemporary on the menu.

The bowl of fries! We often ordered a takeaway meal here with the family. Expensive dishes and you can expect something from that. Pick up Ok. Once we got home we found that we had two containers of fries. Normally we have a bowl of fries per dish (which is also on the menu). However, this time we also ordered 2 fries for the children. To our surprise, only two containers of fries were delivered. Without ordering normal fries, we have more with our normal dishes. We thought this can't be right. So please call politely to explain that it is annoying that no fries have been delivered with the dishes. Instead of indicating that it had been forgotten or that something went wrong, which is very normal and we normally don't think anything of it, the gentleman on the phone indicated that they had put this in two bins. Perplexed is the only good word. Anyone can make a mistake, but this is really worth considering never ordering anything again. An eternal shame for the container of fries...

We eat here once a year, but this was the last time. Starter platter with ready-made sauces and sweet chili sauce???????? No fresh guacamole etc. The jalopenos from the freezer of the appie or something, what a disappointment. Lots of fried. Have your chef do an internship at Supermecado in Rotterdam. Big fat recommendation.

Just had dinner on the terrace. I.v.m. During the Boeskoolis event, the terrace had to be empty at 8 p.m., resulting in busy staff. When clearing another table, the mayonnaise flew through the air into my hair and onto my back (new shirt, but that's besides the point). No apologies heard. Approached the manager, who shrugged his shoulders. Then a whole tray of empty glasses flew to the floor right behind me. It must all be because of the crowds and stress, but they will never see me there again.

As part of Oldenzaal's hospitality plaza, the atmosphere is nothing short of 5 stars. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the service was excellent.

Total disappointment. Went out for dinner with friends at las carretas, one person had their dish "forgotten" when served. Was prepared quickly but was raw and probably fell into the salt pot. After complaints, the dish was put back on the grill after which the taste had completely disappeared. While everyone had almost finished their food, 1 person still had nothing. At checkout we were also asked casually if we had enjoyed it.

Netjes gereserveerd maar daar was niets van bekend. Bedompte sfeer, aan het interieur lijkt de laatste 40 jaar niets te zijn veranderd. Meer dan een uur moeten wachten op het eten, dat als we zelf niet hadden opgelet aan een andere tafel was geserveerd. Tojlet in de kelder was overstroomd, smerig. Verwarring met afrekenen doordat tafels waren verwisseld. Met het eten was niet veel mis behalve dat het prijzig was voor de geboden kwaliteit. Hier wil je echt niet zijn.

I can recommend both the spare ribs and the Mexican celebration, the nachos as a starter are also very tasty.

Every now and then we go out to eat. Las Carretas had a good name with us. Well, that's different now. It's been a long time since we had such a bad meal in a restaurant. If you have to wait more than half an hour, you get a pork tenderloin that is well done instead of tender. A child's size bowl of fries and salad that are not allowed to bear the name salad. We were told later that there was a new cook. He would be better off looking for another job. My wife cooks better. Advice? Leave it to the left.

Burrito besteld was hard, gehakt vulling smaakte niet Mexicaans. Serveerster vergat bestek moest tijd wachten om te kunnen starten met eten. Advocado dip niet vers. Bord met weinig fantasie opgemaakt

Tables too close together. Chicken and shrimp were fried far too long and were dry. Staff would pass it on to the kitchen but heard nothing back. Very unfortunate. Always liked coming here. (for 35 years)

Great food, but very expensive these days. €90 for a standard dinner for two people is steep for this quality. It appears not to have improved after 2 months, now with a group: poor service, wrong meal received and very small portions. Also deliver salad and fries even though half has already been eaten. That just can not be. So insufficient.

Een ontzettend gezellig plek om uiteten te gaan en écht genoten van het eten en drinken. Helaas was de gastvrijheid ver te zoeken. De tafel werd ons vanaf de kassa gewezen (het was prettig geweest om mee te lopen naar tafel 13 in plaats van dat wij moesten gokken wat tafel 13 mogelijk zou kunnen zijn). Op het eind wilden wij graag nog de dessertkaart zien, maar door de bediender werd ons duidelijk gemaakt dat de koffie/thee machine al werd schoongemaakt, dus dan moesten wij snel zijn met bestellen. Tijdens het eten van het dessert (21.30u) ging de muziek uit. Mijn vriend liep naar de toilet en hoorden de bediening duidelijk zeggen dat ze de muziek uit deden, omdat ze het wel mooi geweest vonden. De andere bediendstser kwam de rekening brengen en gaf aan dat de muziek was uitgevallen, maar toen wij hier op reageerden kon ze de muziek via haar telefoon weer keurig aanzetten. Erg opmerking wel… Dit maakt dat wij ons erg opgejaagd voelden.

We had made a reservation, but when choosing a nice spot on the terrace we were told that family came first. So we had to sit in the shade. Food was bland and the service was not friendly or prompt. We left half of it and paid, not once was we asked if everything was okay, not even when paying.

Last week we spent a week in Oldenzaal. Ate here twice. Was completely fine.

Very tasty food. Been coming here often for 10 years, but the service is getting worse and slower. Waited an hour and fifteen minutes for the food. Ordered a beer at the beginning of the main course, it is served when the food is finished. We are sitting at the back of the terrace and apparently that is not part of welding Carretas or something, because the waiter never comes here (except for 2 ladies who sit here because he likes to come to the table there). I don't think I really feel like coming anymore. It was really tasty again

The food is tasty, but the service is certainly substandard. We had to ask for cutlery and napkins with the starter and it took more than an hour before you got your main course. The service also forgets every time which table ordered what and you are constantly not seen. Very unfortunate because the food is good.

Heerlijk en heel goed gegeten op het terras. Personeel vriendelijk en houden de tafels goed in de gaten zodat je niet hoeft te wachten om wat te bestellen.

Wij hadden een weekendje Twente en als liefhebbers van de Mexicaanse keuken hier terecht gekomen. Leuk aangekleed restaurant met een gezellige sfeer en (erg) jong maar enthousiast personeel. Het eten was echt buitengewoon goed. Nu kan je in Nederland veel beter Mexicaans eten dan in Mexico (!), maar dit was wel zo'n beetje het beste Mexicaans dat we ooit hebben gehad. De Fajita schotel voor 2 personen is een echte aanrader.

Haven't had such a good meal in a long time. Service was friendly and well thought out. The ice cream was also delicious. The terrace was heated by heaters, so it was nice to sit despite the cold. Highly recommended!

Got the Mexican Celebration and my bf got the Steak. Also got their Quesadillas as an appetizer, which came in 2 triangles. To my surpise, the ground beef actually worked well as quesadilla. Tip: make reservations ahead of time. This place is always packed.

Delicious food!!! I'll definitely be back, the spare ribs and steak were so tasty. The atmosphere was a bit less, we sat downstairs where people were always being placed to wait for tables, which made it quite noisy there.

Tasty food and excellent service

The food was good, the atmosphere cozy. We were a large group and we all had our food almost at the same time. However, the service could be faster when it comes to taking orders. Only 30 minutes after entering we were asked what to eat and we had to indicate that we wanted dessert. There is certainly some "profit" to be made here. But it tasted good.

Las Carretas is a cozy restaurant with friendly staff. We had a Taco Plate Grande (€15.50) and Enchiladas (€15.75) here. It may not be rocket science, but both dishes were well prepared and together with the fries, rice and salad, more than enough to go home satisfied. We have been here before but will continue to come here more often.

We were completely surprised by this restaurant. Delicious food, nice service and nice decor. It's Mexican food with a nice decor that isn't too much. As a snack we had delicious nacho chips with salsa sauce. My boyfriend loves nachos and these were the best he had ever had. They were not too spicy but just tasty. The fajita to share was delicious and more than enough. We took the beef, chicken and prawn trip. Delicious, highly recommended. We enjoyed it so much that we went to eat here again on my birthday. It is now our favorite restaurant in the region! 10 stars

Regular customer for years, now never again. Reserved a week ago. And we were looking forward to having a nice meal with friends at Las Carretas. Once we arrived at the reserved time of 7:30 PM, we saw many free tables outside and the weather was lovely to sit outside. A waitress spoke to us after which we indicated that we had made a reservation and whether it was okay to dine outside. She had to discuss this inside. It then took almost 5 minutes before she came back and informed us that she could not find our reservation and whether we had come on the right day (confirmation of reservation in the email was correct with time and date), but there was still room outside. , so “pick a spot”. Once seated, we were asked what we wanted to drink, we ordered 4 drinks. The drinks came quite quickly, followed by the dinner menu a little before that. We hadn't been able to make our choice within 5 minutes, so the waitress would come back later. And then... And then it took 30 minutes before we could call a waitress who was in sight, because we wanted to order. In addition, our drinks were also finished and we were ready for a new round for some time. We ordered a large plate of nachos as a starter and 4 main courses and a new round of drinks. It then took 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive. My wife spoke to the waitress about this. She indicated that they would keep an eye on it. And walked away again. Our starter did not arrive and our second round of drinks was almost finished. Another waitress came by. We ordered our 3rd round and I asked her if it was busy, maybe inside? She indicated that it was quiet, after which I indicated to her that we always had to wait a very long time. She would also pay attention to it, because 2 new colleagues had started today. We were halfway through the 3rd round of drinks. I saw the chef come out with some question marks visible on his face. He came to us and asked: “You also ordered food, right?” We confirmed this and he then said there was miscommunication in the kitchen. They would make the starter immediately (apparently this had not happened yet) and they would then immediately start on the main courses, so that we did not have to wait 'long'. He walked away again without an apology, a glance or a blush. This was a difficult point for us, we were all very hungry by now, so leaving seemed to do our ego good, but not our stomach. A friend of ours is heavily pregnant and she too was ready to eat. We decided to stay. The nachos arrived, it was the chef who brought them himself. We thought “now there will be an apology or something like that”. But no, he wished us “enjoy your meal” and the main courses were in the making. It was now 8:45 PM. It took more than 1:15 hours before we received our starter. After this it took about 15 minutes and we received our main courses with a 4th round of drinks. The food was reasonable, after all, we have eaten there regularly and we knew better. One of us went inside to pay. The standard questions were asked. “Did you enjoy it?” He replied moderately. Subsequently, the course of events was no longer discussed. We paid almost immediately after dinner. The receipt said 10:32 p.m. It's been a while since the four of us went for drinks/dinner. It was very pleasant, although this service from Las Carretas somewhat ruined our dining experience. We also went somewhere else on the market square immediately after dinner to have a nice drink. We have been regularly dining or having drinks here for over 10 years, but never again.

Last weekend we had dinner with our team at Las Carretas, and it was so delicious!!! The best starters, main courses and desserts. Staff are doing a very good job and they are all friendly! The restaurant will be completely full and yet we received all the attention. Highly recommended!!

Delicious Mexican food. Nachos tasty. Service was a bit chaotic during our visit. We were forgotten after we placed our order. After 15 minutes there was an apology. (forgotten=other guests did receive their drink orders). I would have preferred to have service at the table again and ask if we wanted something to drink. No further complaints and I will definitely come back here again, because the food is really tasty.

Tasty food and drinks. Waiting for food was a bit on the longer side, but not surprising given how busy it was. The weekend before it was no longer possible to reserve a place, which also indicates that it is a popular place. Not much to complain about, friendly staff and good food. Even though it may look small, you have enough space around your table that you don't have to join the neighbors.
