LE:EN in Wijk 07 Zuid

For delicious food, this is the perfect place to go. The fusion cuisine offers something for everyone, and the shared dining concept is also a great success. A 5-star experience in that regard. Where there's room for improvement: the service could be sharper (drinks are slow to arrive, and they don't come around often).

The atmosphere you see in the photos is there... the idea/feeling of authentic... industrial... inspiring!

I've known LE:EN for years as a surprisingly good place to eat, but this time it was disappointing. Of the eight dishes we ordered, three were very mediocre: A watermelon salad with Greek yogurt. It was supposed to come with feta and a herb salad, but I couldn't find any. Marinated and stir-fried octopus. This was a very small dish; you had to search for the octopus with a magnifying glass. Fried cauliflower. It did indeed look blackened, bland, and with a tasteless sauce. The service and atmosphere were excellent, but the food left a lot to be desired. Is the chef on vacation?

The food and drinks were delicious, but there was a slight issue with one dish that wasn't quite right, but they resolved it superbly! 🫶🏾 And the cat that sat with me was incredibly sweet and super friendly! A cool and relaxed atmosphere in an exceptional restaurant! The waitress was extremely friendly and gave us a few small menu recommendations, which we gratefully accepted! I haven't seen the dishes on the menu anywhere else, so it's definitely something for people who like to try new things! We enjoyed everything very much :)

It’s a fairly industrial setting. Service was excellent and the lovely server gave us advice on nightlife etc. food is small plates so include the chicken and rice combo. Order 2 portions of the dumplings. They come in threes and you don’t want to fight over the spare

The venue is a large concrete room with terrible acoustics. The food is awkward as hell.

Spacious venue with fusion Asian food with a twist. I wasn't entirely impressed, and I usually prefer authentic establishments. It's fine for drinks; they have an extensive cocktail and soft drink menu. I did find it rather pricey, though. The bread with dips on the side was €7.50 by itself. The bento box was

It looks nice and is spacious. Because of the nice weather, we were able to eat outside on the terrace, which was great. The service was friendly, but they were very rushed and lacked enthusiasm. It was also almost impossible to get a hold of them, so we ended up looking for a menu somewhere ourselves, and we practically had to tackle them repeatedly to get their attention so we could order something. And "Are you familiar with our concept?" isn't the best opening line. Just say that you offer small dishes that you can share or eat alone. Despite the exciting descriptions and combinations, the food was just okay in terms of flavors, not particularly special. The dishes did arrive quickly, and three dishes per person were more than enough for us.

The place has a great vibe with a loud, industrial feel that works well for a night out. Service was good and the menu had a decent range of food and drinks. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the reviews. The rice wasn’t cooked properly, the sashimi smelled off, and the salad was bland. A couple of dishes were okay, but overall it felt pretty average. It might have been a one-off, but we're not planning to go back.

What a beautiful location and wonderful atmosphere. All the dishes were amazing; we had a wonderful evening!

Cassava chips and pappadums as a starter. Strange flavor combinations in the dishes. Worst of all, the white rice was far too dry. Service was attentive but not fast.

Very nice evening, drank really delicious cocktails, first had a bite to eat with my girlfriends and the food was also very good! Will definitely come here again with my girls!

Delicious food, very special dishes

My God, where to start? The cocktails... I had a Naked & Famous, my boyfriend a Whiskey Sour. Both to die for. Refined and made with care. The food... The spicy broccoli salad, chicken, octopus, Okonomiyaki sticks, dumplings, ... you name it. I'm still drooling a little. Even the dips with the bread are fantastic. And all that in a super cozy environment, with top notch service. We'll be back! 10 out of 10!

Had a great meal at a great location, but the service was the best! Super nice and attentive staff who are happy to help you, cheerful and very alert!!! We will come back more often!

It was quiet on the terrace this sunny Sunday and therefore relaxed. The food was art, really everything was special. The people in the service were very nice and very competent. The nice thing is that LE:EN is a relaxed place. We sat there for almost 3 hours, really nice.

LE:EN is a hip and creative Asian restaurant in a cool industrial building. The flavors are really special: pure, surprising and with a wide palette. Think of red beet sushi with a grasshopper - exciting and tasty. The service is friendly, thinks along and gives honest advice. Recommended: the delicious fresh house beer! The atmosphere is relaxed, with street art and a nice mix of people!

Sloppy service who were more concerned with themselves than with serving the right dish.

Really a super nice restaurant. Delicious food. Service also helped us well. The Okonomiaki (or however you write that) is really veeeery good.

Fun, tasty food, kind to children

Food was hit and miss. The octopus in particular was undercooked and inedible. Drinks were pretty nice but small.

Leen is highly recommended! Fusion food restaurant in a fantastic location next to the water tower in Utrecht; bit of a Berlin atmosphere I would say. The staff has clearly been well chosen for the concept: free birds, personalities, types who radiate that everyone is welcome! This is also reflected in the colorful mix of the audience! The food is varied, prepared with love, small works of art on the plate. The vegan Okonomiyaki was surprisingly tasty; not boring vegan at all ;-). The Korean tenderloin was also one of my favorites. The octopus looked at me as a whole animal from the board, which I personally found less “attractive”. The service was fast, attentive and friendly. The obvious confusion as to where which orders should go was forgiven by the guests. In summary: I will definitely come back again!

We hired two of their halls for giving workshops and drinks + food after. Loved the space, loved the Asian food, very nice people and great service.

Ugh food with their embarrassing interpretation of Asian cuisine and even cooking. Had a lunch at this restaurant making noise in the midnight. Gotta say, it’s almost impressive how they make the food just as rediculously awful as their pathetic stupid music taste. At least they’re consistent. Haha.

I have had a delicious meal several times, I am not a big fan of shared dining except when I am at LE:EN, fantastic food and you can sit there very comfortably.

Busy and acoustically not great for eating. Nice atmosphere. Staff friendly but also a lot of real starters. Menu is promising & exciting, but unfortunately the food was not good, not very tasty, small portions. Food came through very quickly so that was ok. So mainly a nice place for a drink

A mixed bag of food quality and service. Some foods were good, but most mediocre and hidden behind spicy herbs. Service was very different between whatever waiter was helping the table (it switched all the time). The atmosphere was pretty bad, incredibly loud and the industrial setting can work a lot better.

Tasty and fun food, but sometimes a bit too spicy, which makes the other flavors disappear. The ice cream for dessert is great.

A hip(star) concept in a large warehouse that combines events and food. The interior is casual with tables and seats alternating. The food is shared dining of international cuisine. Lots of Asian dishes. Surprisingly tasty! The service is smooth despite the crowds. Definitely give it a try if you don't want to eat in the center.

What a nice surprise! Yesterday evening we had the pleasure of dining with you. The first impression was good, a super original set-up, very special with actually different rooms in 1 large room. Food and quality were great, what flavor explosions. Against our better judgment we ate too much, but it was very difficult not to. We found the service (despite reading some reviews that it was not good) to be very good and enthusiastic.

I see different reactions but my experience was very positive! the service is very friendly. It took a while before we could order drinks again, but that was the only thing. the food was very tasty! there are also plenty of vegetarian options. I also really liked the atmosphere. I had no problems with loud noise or anything like that.

Leen is a very nice place in what is now quite a hip neighborhood. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the menu shows all the effort they have put in for vegans/vegetarians. Plenty of meat too. The latest fashion in food (e.g. Kimchi, grasshopper they also do). The atmosphere is especially nice there, so we really enjoy coming there.

Thank you for this lovely place and the staff taking care of us was so helpful and made decent suggestions the whole night. We ordered Okonomiyaki which we really loved and Korean Ossenhaas and Fried chicken which were very tough. The things you may take into consideration is that bathroom should be cleaner and it was a bit cold inside and through the end of our visit we had to leave since we got a bit cold.

It is special if you enter as one of the first guests and all the tables are still free that you have to wait until a table has been cleaned. The service is not great, except for one nice girl. The food was not bad, it says enough if you liked the rendang croquettes best. Ordered coffee after dinner, received one cup (espresso) after I indicated that we had ordered 2, we quickly received the second but no spoon to stir. Maybe it would be an idea to have a meal yourself as a customer. By the way, you could barely see what was on your plate because the light was set to dark. For us this is certainly not worth repeating

Fun selection of Asian dishes! The restaurant has a lovely ambience, especially when the sun is out and you can sit outside :) Service could be better though..

Nice place but no airco on. Hot! The snacks are the worst I ever had! The old-fashioned Dutch deep-fried variety, but on the lowest quality level. Hadn’t had that in years! I asked for a beer and it seemed to be too much of an effort to reach down into the fridge.

Nice restaurant with nice interior, looks cool. But the service was quite stupid, too young with no understanding of the menu at all. But for a second, what culinary fool thought it would be a good idea to throw chunks of uncooked instant noodles into a salad?

Apparently it was very busy, because we had to wait quite a while before we ordered drinks and later also before we received a menu. It was a Friday evening, but it wasn't packed. Staff is very friendly and the food is different and delicious. There is plenty of choice for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Small snacks, so you can have fun shared dining. There is actually something to choose from on the beer menu, bottle and tap. Nice to meet you.

Had two drinks per person with a group last night. It took a long time for the order to be taken. Then we sometimes had to choose a different drink twice because the chosen drink was suddenly no longer allowed (cocktail) or was not available (some beers, half the whiskey menu). For example, I had to choose a different whiskey 4 times because the one I had chosen was not available. To make matters worse, I now see afterwards that one of the whiskeys ordered that was not available, at 12 euros, was added to the voucher! These are not jokes of course. Naturally, there is no email address or contact form on the site to send the voucher or file a complaint. Really a shame. It would be useful to update your map, if necessary with a QR code so that you can view it online.

Soy parte de un equipo que organiza cenas para un grupo pequeño cada mes durante los últimos 3 años. Hemos estado en casi todos los restaurantes del centro de Utrecht, y nunca he experimentado algo como lo que pasó en LE: ES anoche (miércoles por la noche). Éramos un grupo de 8 y nos vimos obligados a un "menú sorpresa Chef Especial" sin ninguna opción. Había 1 vegetariano y 1 persona alérgica al pescado, y en lugar de ser complaciente, el personal realmente me culpó por no decirles con antelación. ¿Cómo puede un restaurante ser tan rígido? Si no nos gustaba o no podíamos comer lo que sacaban (que ni siquiera sabíamos porque todo era una "sorpresa") , nos dijeron que podíamos pedir extra del menú principal —¡pero con un coste extra! Así que estamos pagando 35€ cada uno por un menú fijo que no pedimos, y si no lo comemos, tenemos que pagar más para conseguir algo que realmente queremos. ¡Ridículo! ¿Y la comida? Raro, por decir lo menos. Por alguna razón, pusieron arroz en la mesa, ¡pero no había nada con qué comerlo! Alguien pidió patatas, y lo que conseguimos fue un plato de patatas extremadamente secas, demasiado especiadas, hervidas que nadie podía comer, sin embargo, todavía teníamos que pagar extra por ello. La única parte decente de la noche fue nuestra camarera. Si no fuera por ella, estoy bastante seguro de que algunos de nuestros miembros habrían salido a mitad de camino. Pero incluso ella nos trajo la factura equivocada al final, que incluía elementos de la mesa de al lado! Estoy casi seguro de que terminamos pagando por varias cosas dos veces. Dos personas de nuestro grupo se negaron a pagar porque apenas comieron nada, y como organizador, me dejaron cubrir el resto de la factura. Esta es la primera vez en 3 años de organizar estas cenas que he tenido que enviar múltiples correos electrónicos de disculpa después. ¡De principio a fin, un completo desastre! Evitar LE: ¡EN!

Stay away from LE:EN! Horrible and extremely arrogant place! I’m part of a team that organizes dinners for a small group every month for the past 3 years. We’ve been to nearly all the restaurants in Utrecht centre, and I have never experienced anything like what happened at LE:EN last night (Wednesday evening). We were a group of 8 and were forced into a "Special Chef Surprise Set Menu" with no choices whatsoever. There was 1 vegetarian and 1 person allergic to fish, and instead of being accommodating, the staff actually blamed me for not telling them in advance. I mean, how can a restaurant be that rigid? If we didn’t like or couldn’t eat what they brought out (which we didn’t even know because it was all a "surprise"), we were told we could order extra from the main menu—but at an extra cost! So we’re paying €35 each for a set menu we didn’t ask for, and if we don’t eat it, we have to pay more to get something we actually want. Ridiculous! And the food? Weird, to say the least. For some reason, they put rice on the table, but there was nothing to eat it with! Someone ordered potatoes, and what we got was a plate of extremely dry, overly spiced, boiled potatoes that nobody could eat, yet we still had to pay extra for it. The only decent part of the night was our waitress. If it weren’t for her, I’m pretty sure some of our group would’ve walked out halfway through. But even she brought us the wrong bill at the end, which included items from the table next to us! I’m almost certain we ended up paying for several things twice. Two people in our group refused to pay because they barely ate anything, and as the organizer, I was left to cover the rest of the bill. This is the first time in 3 years of organizing these dinners that I’ve had to send out multiple apology emails afterward. From beginning to end, a complete disaster! Avoid LE:EN!

Modernist dining barn, very hollow in terms of acoustics. Wanting to be a bit alternative, without succeeding.

A place where you can undoubtedly eat well, but our experience was mixed. First of all, compliments to the staff who work hard. We were there with a large group and getting drinks in the right place was a challenge. We had 3 courses with some papadums and prawn crackers beforehand, where the choice of which dishes was fixed, which is logical given the group size. The choices of dishes were simply not always convenient. The cold glass noodles were well flavored with cinnamon but a boring cold bite. The other dishes were more exciting but far from accessible. Lots of raw vegetables including broccoli and Brussels sprouts. And with uncooked noodles and lentils that are difficult to eat with chopsticks. I loved the potatoes with coriander, but they were quite spicy. I'm used to something, but of course that doesn't apply to everyone. I should have gotten rid of that dip then. Fewer strange choices for the hot dishes, although I did not have pork belly. Dessert was fine. Due to the size of the place, it was without atmosphere, although the decoration was done with care. It is very crowded. Cramped seating areas. Lots of tables right next to each other. That doesn't help at all. Would I eat here again? On the one hand, yes, because there were nicer dishes on the menu than we got, but I don't see myself having dinner for two here. It is too massive for that.

A gem on the outskirts of Utrecht with exciting Asian dishes, good beer and a pleasant atmosphere. All served behind a gas station in an old workshop.

Vreselijke bediening. Nadat ons de tafel was gewezen hebben we 3 kwartier moeten wachten op ons drinken. Toen we er wat van hadden gezegd hebben we nog een halfuur moeten wachten om ons eten überhaupt te kunnen bestellen. Het is dat we met het gezin waren om een verjaardag te vieren, dat ik ben blijven zitten. Maar deze tent is het absoluut niet waard om nog eens een bezoekje te brengen. Very spacious restaurant with many small tables, also suitable for larger groups. The disadvantage is that the acoustics are quite poor and you cannot always hear each other well. It can also sometimes take a very long time before you are helped. Food is fine, one dish is more special than the other.

Beautiful attractive tent, nicely decorated. Sort of an industrial Asian vibe. A bit noisy due to the high ceilings. Service was very friendly, genuine and helpful. At the same time, it must be said that of the 8 dishes ordered, we had to ask twice whether it was still coming. The same with a glass of wine that was not brought within fifteen minutes. That's too long. Then the food, the most important thing. The shared dining concept here too. Nice to be able to taste several things, but also messy and the logistics were not completely in order. The menu was exciting in terms of content, but described too complicated with far too long sentences with all the ingredients listed. The food ranged from somewhat ordinary (Indian curry) to really tasty (Japanese pancakes, roasted cauliflower). €114 for an extensive dinner with enough alcohol for 2 people felt like a reasonable amount. I can definitely see myself going back to LEEN again.

Industrial-style catering facility with large hall for company meetings in an informal atmosphere

Great tent. Excellent price quality. We had a vegan meal with 5 people and there was enough variety for that.

It was tasty but the dishes were far from simple. You gotta love it. It was very pleasant and the service was very nice.

Food was good. Portions meager. The ambiance resembled a post-neo-trendy dining room, complete with reverberation and noise: having a conversation with your table companions is a challenge. Pretentious place. Don't think about it too much anymore. Fortunately I was with a very nice and pleasant person, that is much more important.

Delicious food inspired by various cuisines!

A special experience in this astatic kitchen, a sharing dying/ tapas concept. LE:EN is a restaurant in an old garage, which made it quite noisy, the music was also quite loud, which made it feel quite busy. Too much for me personally, but that is of course different for everyone. The service was quite fast, which was great, but very short in my opinion. Little interaction between customer and staff. The concept is very nice and I certainly liked it, the food was of good quality. The sushi purple, pork belly and beef tenderloin were particularly popular. Unfortunately, the Shrimps that we love the most were very disappointing again, especially for the price you pay for them. Furthermore, the dishes were reasonable in price-quality ratio. A 4 for us because the real golden edge is somehow missing a bit. But definitely recommended if you like Asian and a tapas concept to try!

We have been sitting at a dirty table for half an hour, with glasses from the previous guests. There are scraps of paper and plates on the surrounding empty tables. After half an hour the first drink finally arrives. A cocktail, without a straw. With the drink comes the message that the second drink is no longer available. I choose an alternative and ask for a straw. The straw is placed on the dirty table with bare hands. We are straw free. Thank you.

Great place to go with friends. All my friends liked their foods. The salmon was too much Spice for my taste, but with the opcional rice, the spice become milder. The price is good. The ambience of the restaurant is adorable.

The industrial interior is pretty cool and welcoming, complemented by young and friendly staff. The fusion food is tasty, though the portions are more focused on flavor than quantity. We were happy with the desserts especially Red Beetroot cake.

We were last here years ago, but now we decided to try it out with our not always easy children (11, 9 and 3...). And what a success! All children are very happy with their children's 'box' (rice, vegetables, spring rolls, sauce, small gift). The atmosphere on the terrace was wonderfully cheerful and relaxed, just like the staff. The most important thing is of course the food, we were also very enthusiastic about that. Surprising flavors, good portions, fast service. (Minor detail, the children were happy with the mini play corner, but it could use some freshening up. As small as it is, it doesn't take much effort, and it would make things even better)

Very bad service. After half an hour of looking at empty plates, we asked if she wanted to clear our table. We also did not receive the cocktails (€9-€11 per person) that were part of our chosen menu. In return we received a standard drink for free (€4 per person). This will not be a repeat for us on our next visit.

Food was very average, we ordered 5 dishes. Two were downright inedible, the rest were okay. One of the waiters was almost in his underwear, quite unhygienic if you ask me. The atmosphere is great again!

Wij kwamen tussen 16-17 uur en kozen iets van de borrelkaart. Wij bestelden een borrelbobento met warme en koude aziatische hapjes. Helaas alleen gefrituurde vette hapjes gekregen met wat cassave en paperdum en 3 dipjes. Bediening was wel vriendelijk maar het eten krijgt een onvoldoende. Snackbareten.

Overall this place is mediocre at best. Can’t recommend it for anything else other than the atmosphere. Food is very disappointing and expensive for what it is. Almost everything of what we ordered was so disappointingly bland and lacking any flavor. The staff were nice but the waiting time was very long (just to get dinner menus to browse or to get the drinks for our table was incredibly slow). The only thing nice about this place is that one can sit outside in the summer. Definitely not coming back here anytime soon.

Location is great with lots of seating both indoors and outdoors. Although the portions are small, lots of options on their menu which is good if you want to taste a few dishes.

We ate here for the first time on Saturday 20/07 and unfortunately it was quite disappointing. With 30 degrees outside, we started on the terrace, but after fifteen minutes we had to go inside because of predicted rain. It was uncomfortably hot and stuffy inside. When the rain stopped and the weather cleared, several people asked if we could go back to the terrace, but this was refused. The staff seemed busy and tense. The move from outside to inside caused chaos and stress. When our food was finally served it turned out we had no cutlery. I asked an employee for cutlery and he said he was busy and would come later, but he didn't come back. In the end I had to walk up to an employee again to ask for cutlery, even though our food had been on the table for a while. The food itself was also disappointing. We had a number of vegetarian options including the black noodles, Indian curry, dim sum and sushi. The portions were meager, the sushi soggy and the flavors not very diverse. The table was full of empty containers and glasses because no one came to clean up the table in between. Finally we left to eat dessert somewhere else on a terrace. Despite the nice ambiance (raw, edgy, industrial) it was a very disappointing experience.
