L'Osteria in Omval/Overamstel

A lovely restaurant right on the water where the price-performance ratio is just right.

Since there are only a few restaurants nearby, it's advisable to reserve a table in advance. It gets very busy, and long lines form, especially on weekends, in front of the entrance. Despite this, the staff are all incredibly friendly and very attentive to each guest. The food arrived very quickly, and the portion sizes were more than generous. The pizzas are enormous, so much so that they don't fit on the plates, and practically every guest leaves with a pizza box to enjoy the rest at home. All in all, a great restaurant, in my opinion.

My mother turned 50 today, and I took her to L'Osteria for lunch. I always really like the staff here, but when I shared with them that it was my mother's birthday, I thought they were truly fantastic. All the staff were very friendly to us and we received a lovely gift. Furthermore, the drinks and the pizza were very tasty and well-priced. The surroundings are also great. Many thanks to all the staff for the super fun afternoon, and I recommend everyone come and eat here sometime!

Pizza is the best - taste, size and prise related! Great atmosphere always! Place gets pretty busy so good to reserve upfront and be ready to stand in line.

We had a delicious meal at l'osteria. We have had problems with the service in the past, but this time Janna helped us really well. The drinks were sometimes a bit late or served awkwardly, but the atmosphere was worth it!

Great pizza at Losteria crispy crust, fresh toppings, cozy vibe. Big shoutout to our waitress Yanna, she was attentive and friendly and made the night even better. Highly recommend!

We had a nice meal. It did take a very long time for it to arrive, though. Half the table had almost finished their food by the time the other half was brought. Paying the bill also took half an hour before someone came after we asked. So you really have to take your time here, haha. The staff is very friendly, though.

The pizzas are delicious; keep in mind that they are large, so they are great for sharing. There is a very nice terrace to sit on, with a view of the Amstel and a fun adjoining playground for the kids.

We were already familiar with L’Osteria from Germany, so we knew what to expect. The food in Amsterdam was also typical L’Osteria fare – large pizzas, familiar dishes, and generally perfectly acceptable. However, we felt that we had slightly better experiences with the quality during our previous visits in Germany. Our biggest criticism was the service. Unfortunately, it seemed quite chaotic and uncoordinated. For example, our appetizers, which we had specifically ordered, arrived at the same time as the main courses, even though it was clearly stated that they were appetizers. Overall, there was a lack of organization and attentiveness, which made the visit feel unnecessarily hectic. On the positive side, we definitely want to highlight the location. The restaurant is beautifully situated on the water, and the outdoor seating is very pleasant. The nearby playground is also a big plus, especially for families with children. All in all, the food was solid and basically what you would expect from L’Osteria. The location is truly lovely, but the service definitely needs improvement. Therefore, for us, it's about 3 to 3.5 out of 5 stars overall.

Worst service I have ever encountered. Warm summary day, multiple free tables just a few glasses on them from earlier guests. Prompted to wait at the bar. Hot inside no bar stools and ignored by staff for a drink. Asked us to wait at least 10 minutes. Then we asked again politely if we could already take a seat, since we don't care about the mess. We're literally send away from the table again. Other guests were also confused. I am very easygoing, but this was absolutely atrocious service and apparently their standard service method. Would never go here, even if the food was good.

Pizza was okay at best (comically big, but quite dry, with undercooked eggplant), service was horrendously slow (took 1:30 for pizzas to arrive). At least view and location are great

Terrible service and communication. While several tables were free, we waited in line to to be told to ‘wait at the bar’ standing, because the (perfectly fine and empty) tables were ‘dirty’ and needed to be cleaned before getting a table. We told them we didn’t mind if the tables were dirty so we could wait at seated at the tables. It was fine for us to wait for 10 or even 30 minutes, we understand it might be busy or that they are understaffed. But the rude communication and being sent away from waiting at a unoccupied table to wait while standing at the bar without any explanation is crazy to us. Bare in mind, there were several other people waiting in line who came after us. Who were witnessing this, just to keep waiting for even longer in the line. Also no smile, explanation or apology at all.

I haven't come across this in Amsterdam in a very long time. Scandalous. The receptionist had better look for another job.

The best pizzas I have ever tried! Reasonable prices, very good atmosphere, very well located, beautiful surroundings. This place really left a great impression on us and was an unique experience since this restaurant has its own character. I'm going to miss it (I live in another country).

Amazing food and location! Service was a bit slow

The food was spectacular, the service was great, and the location was perfect.

We arrived for an anniversary dinner and were seated outside. The host told us that someone would be with us shortly but after 20 minutes no waiter had come over to even acknowledge us or take a drinks order. I eventually had to go to the bar myself to ask someone to come down to the table. About 10 minutes later, a staff member finally came to our table who said he wasn’t supposed to be even waiting this area of the restaurant. We ordered two pizzas and drinks. My girlfriend’s pizza arrived first, but after another 15 minutes there was still no sign of mine. I had to mention it to two different waiters before it was addressed. My pizza eventually arrived roughly 20 minutes later by which time my girlfriend’s food had gone cold. Unfortunately, we received no apology from the staff at any point during the evening. The venue itself is lovely and the food was good, but the poor service completely spoiled what was meant to be a special anniversary dinner. Sadly we won’t be returning.

What amazing service and delicious food! Despite the busyness, our food was served incredibly quickly. The staff is very helpful, friendly, and hospitable. We were served by Elif, and what a wonderful person she is! She made our experience even more pleasant with her kindness and excellent service. We would definitely love to come back here again!

The pizza is large and delicious. The staff (especially Elisa) are kind and helpful and try to accommodate every customer request. Orders don't take long to get through. The outdoor area is lovely. The panna cotta deserves a special mention.

The location is perfect, beautiful by the water! They have a large terrace and two floors inside. However, we had to wait to get a table, and if you want to call to make a reservation, you get a robot on the line, which is a real shame. The food is very good, just like at the other L'osterias.

We had a delicious meal at this beautiful restaurant in Amsterdam. Wide selection of vegetarian, meat, and fish dishes. Friendly staff and fast service. The only downside was that it was a bit noisy, but it was also very cozy!

This establishment went above and beyond the standard I had in mind. It was my first time here and was greeted instantly and given a table for two which me and my good friend were able to enjoy a delicious appetizer with the red sparkling wine and an incredibly made pizza. Thank you to our server for being so polite and on top of her game asking us if there was anything we needed and if we wanted to add anything extra as the meal went by. I will 100% be recommending this establishment to everyone who travels out to Amsterdam!

Had a delicious meal with excellent pizzas! They are really big. And of course, the flavor has been adjusted. You won't find pineapple pizza in Italy :-) . The pizzas are otherwise excellent! The pastas and salads are also fresh and flavorful.

Loved it! We were in town for a few days from the US. The food was some of the best we have had in Amsterdam, the views are great and the atmosphere was really nice. Prices were good too!

I really love the restaurant, the food is good. It's just that it's so busy for the servers. We had to wait quite a long time. But I have eaten here before and the pizza was there within 10 minutes.

Yesterday I ordered 5 pizzas and I haven't had them this bad in ages. The Prosciutto was the worst, with a few meager slices of ham. Next was the Canarino, where the ingredients weren't distributed across the pizza at all and it was very tasteless. The Vegetariana was also very sparsely topped and very tasteless. The Rucola was boring, but somewhat okay. The only tasty pizza was the Salsiccia Piccante, hence 2 stars instead of 1. The pizzas were also expensive and very unevenly cut.

The pizza was very dry and hardly had any topping on it. On the Prosciutto & Mushroom pizza we could hardly find any traces of mushroom, the prosciutto was cooked ham and very, very little cheese. Just awful! Still hungry after the bad pizza we ordered Tiramisu. Also very dry and too little mascarpone. Thought I will make it up with an Aperol Spritz but sadly they even managed to screw that one up. Tasted like Orange Fanta...very, very sweet. Sent it back but go the same glass & drink back!!! The only thing this place has going for it is the location.

Very disappointing experience. The staff member at the entrance saw that we were wearing hijabs and refused to seat us. Despite there being many empty, unreserved tables, he told us we had to wait for an hour to an hour and a half, even though the restaurant was close to closing time. We felt we were treated differently because of our appearance, and the experience came across as discriminatory and very unwelcoming. I hope the management addresses this issue so that all customers are treated with respect and fairness. 16/7/2026 - 7:30 PM

We had a very frightening experience one evening and ended up running from a dangerous situation. We came into L’Osteria feeling scared and shaken, and after explaining what had happened, the staff immediately welcomed us with kindness, compassion, and understanding. They made us feel safe, reassured us, and treated us with genuine care and respect. Their hospitality and willingness to help meant so much to us during such a difficult moment. We didn’t even have a meal, but we will always remember how the team at L’Osteria made us feel. Thank you for your incredible kindness and humanity. You truly made a difference, and we will never forget it.

A very nice restaurant where you are welcomed very well. Had a delicious meal here with my family. We were also well assisted by the staff; they gave us a good explanation of the dishes. The employee who helped us is named Elif. Very friendly! Top employee!

The food is delicious, but we had to wait a very long time for the starter (an hour; it came almost immediately after we asked for it, so I get the feeling it was a bit forgotten). Then, the main course arrived right after the last bite. So the timing was a bit off, but the food was delicious! Portions are large, good value for money. They were also extremely busy with large groups, which was the excuse for the long wait. Understandable, but still. We did get coffee and tea on the house because of the long wait, so that was handled well and kindly; great!

Mediocre food. Canteen feel. Assembly line. Food served too quickly without drinks arriving beforehand. We will never come back here.

I did not have a pleasant experience at your place tonight: Table reserved for 7 people (De Vries). The table was right in the sun. My request to seat two groups of four together was not allowed: management policy… I ordered a salad with avocado *and* prawns. The salad arrived, I tasted it, and found not a single prawn. The waiter took the salad back to the kitchen. “We’re out of prawns,” was the response. Why don’t you say that beforehand, I think. You serve the salad hoping the guest won’t notice, right??? Next, I ordered the Salade Di Manzo. The meat was extremely salty, but I gave up. When the bill arrived, we were surprised by the “deposit items.” The waiter didn’t know what that was either. But do you charge guests a deposit while you are clearing those bottles to the kitchen? Very strange. Due to our surprise, we didn’t check the bill properly, and I now see that you *did* charge for the Avocado salad that went back to the kitchen.
