Madame Thai - Thai Streetfood Noodlebar in Rotterdam Centrum

I’v visited this place several times. My favorite menu is pad thai, pangsit, and mango sticky rice. I ever ordered their wok as well, but it tasted just okay. Their soup is also comforting but it doesn’t make me want to order again. But for me, their pad thai is the best. The portion is big enough, so I always bring my leftover as takeaway. This can help you consider how much you should order. The ambience is also very nice. It feels like I’m not in Rotterdam. However it sometimes takes them quite long to take your order, even though the restaurant is not really crowded. But overall, this place is my go to Thai restaurant in Rotterdam so far.

After an afternoon and early evening stroll around Rotterdam and Delfhaven, I fancied a bite to eat before heading back to Amsterdam. Walked into a place that looked busy… usually a good sign, and found myself at @madamethai.nl on Mauritsweg. It took about five to ten minutes to be seated, but I was a lone diner on a busy Saturday night. I went for Look Chin Tod to start, followed by Pad Thai Devil Beef (which truly earns its 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ status), finished off with a soothing Kauw Niew Mamuang for dessert. All washed down by two @singhabeer The food was good, and I would definitely visit again but with friends or family. As a lone diner, I felt a little abandoned; there was no check back and I had to chase for a second beer.

During my visit to Madame Thai at Mauritsweg 2 I really enjoyed a number of dishes. The seafood noodles were delicious and well prepared. The kapao rice and cashew rice with chicken were also very tasty and well seasoned. The milk tea, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing - not very tasty and rather bland. The location of the restaurant is very nice and contributes to the cozy atmosphere. The service was okay, I would give it a 3 to 4 out of 5 – fine, but not very special. All in all a nice experience with good food, although there are still some small areas for improvement.

Beautiful decor and fast service. Not being used to Thai cuisine, our experience was not memorable, but rather disappointing in this restaurant in terms of taste and preparation.

This is the right place for an extensive lunch! Enough choice. I don't know everything about the menu, but it all looks delicious. We spent about €84 with 2 people. (3x drinks, 2x starter, 2x main course).

The food here is not authentic Thai. It tastes more like a Chinese restaurant. We had a salad with crab and a shrimp soup beforehand, both inedible salty. Main course chicken with cashew tasted like ku lo yuk. Very unfortunate, because the restaurant is nicely decorated and the service is very friendly.

Very tasty massaman curry! We got in just in time, when we left there was a long line. Good business!

A friend recommended going here for our semi-anual dinner meeting. I strongly advise you not to go here for various reasons. I shall elucidate. In 2.5 hours, we were only offered drinks once, and only after having been there for half an hour already. Our orders were not delivered at the same time and there was quite a wait for the last order to arrive and we could start our meal together as etiquette prescibes. Nobody, in those 2.5 hours, asked us anything about the food nor our experience. We even had to stop a waiter passing by to beg of him to bring us another drink. Maybe it was for the best we weren't asked how we enjoyed the food, as the food was barely mediocre and definitely not worth the money. At some point, one member of staff came to collect the plates. I had expected him to ask us if we wanted to order desert or maybe have some tea or coffee after. Alas. So, we decided to have desert elsewhere. Last but not least, our entrance. When my friend and I were seated (we had booked a table for 5), we were shown to a cold, concrete table for four next to a bright neon sign. I have a serious back injury and asked if we could be seated someplace else with a normal chair to sit on. The lady told me we should have mentioned this when booking a table. I told her that I did not expect to find a picnic table at a restaurant. I am awfully sorry for the lady whom I asked for the bill on our way out and had to listen to me saying to her how I was baffled by the fact it was so crowded it being such a lousy restaurant. I reckon she could not help it.

2024: Loved the food here. The service was top class too. 4stars Edit : 2025 Feb 2: I was here again yesterday with a friend. Despite having had a reservation, we had had to stand at the counter and wait for 25 mins. The staff had no idea how much longer was the approx wait time. It was super annoying. Food was good though. Downgrading to 3stars

Booked in advance by phone and by 6:30 PM the place was already quite full. A good sign. The service is very friendly and the atmosphere is cozy. They did their best to bring in the Thai atmosphere and they succeeded. It is also excellent in terms of sound. No sound box, where the neighbors' conversations drown out your own conversation. So great. Started with a Chang beer and then a Tom Yam Kai soup and ordered the Phad Sam Rod as a main course. Both dishes tasted great, western spicy, as they say in Thailand. A great restaurant, nice and close, so I will come here more often.

Unfortunately food was very average taste. Spring rolls were good but pad Thai was far from authentic. I was pretty disappointed. Moreover, service is terrible, we were the only table during lunch and waiters totally ignored us. We waited really long to order food and re order drinks was almost impossible

Food was greasy, not authentic Thai

We order fried rice with shrimps and it was sooooo salty & oily. We also ordered tomyum noodles soup with seafood but there were only x2 small shrimps & 2 small pieces of octopus that were seafood, the rest was just fake/imitation fishballs (very pricey for 22€) Other stuff we ordered were not that good either. All in all the food were disappointing. Atmosphere was good, nice cozy place. Service was fine too.

Regurlarly I eat this beef dish, it's my favorite. Quite spicy, you have your drink ready.

Nice restaurant with Thai ambiance. The menu has many options, but is also missing some Thai dishes which you cannot order or even request. The food is not bad, but also not very good. The meat (laab) was quite fat, though the Papaya salad was ok. Overal a positive experience. And takeaway is available for the food you cannot eat.

Restaurant next to the Rotterdam train station, decorated with great care, spacious and eye-catching. Varied Thai food, there is plenty to choose from, including drinks they have a wide variety of cocktails. The quantities are generous and both me (who is a bit of a foodie) and my partner really liked it. The price is somewhat expensive and the service, although very friendly, was somewhat lost and took a while to assist us (nothing too serious). I will repeat for sure.

Food was tasteless. I needed to ask for salt to put on it myself to give it taste. I couldn’t eat it and when I told the lady waiter she just laughed it off. When we already paid and walked to the door, a woman came to us and said we need to pay for the plastic containers. Apparently the waiter forgot to charge us. That was weird.

I am surprised how come I haven’t tried this place sooner. Thai being one of my fav cuisine and finally I found place which serves best Thai in town. So many options to pick from and they have vegan options as well. If you trust my recommendation then go to this place.

Eaten with a friend. Both got sick after dinner. Unfortunately. We are afraid it was the chicken. This one tasted a bit strange. The atmosphere in the restaurant was pleasant. However, we have been left behind with a negative experience.

7.5 euros for a bottle of water, and refused tap water… All the food was overly sweet. Tom yam and fried rice were the only things that we enjoyed.

It's not Thai food. It's a Chinese restaurant, trying to serve Thai food. Very very disappointing. Has really nothing to do with the Thai kitchen. Hire a Thai chef who can cook Thai food, because the location and place itself is fine.

Great service and delicious authentic Thai food. Thai hospitality is unmissable in this restaurant and the dish phad med mamuang is highly recommended. We have already eaten here twice.

First of all: a really beautiful restaurant with a beautiful interior. It feels like you are in Thailand! Staff was super friendly and helpful. They are also fast. The food came after 10 minutes. I have been a frequent customer to this place until I got hair in my food. I did not want to eat the food anymore and sad that I ate soup with someone body hair in it. I was asked to pay for the part of food that I’ve eaten which was shocking. I would not recommend it or go back to this place

I ordered food online and received it within 30 minutes, even though I live further away. The food was still hot when it arrived. A red and a green curry. Both were very tasty, the red curry was also pleasantly spicy.

Too expensive for street food. The Tom Kha Gai is authentic with galangal and lemongrass, but not very seasoned (€9). The quantity is only suitable as a starter soup. A portion of rice €5. 3 spring rolls (pre-made and heated in the microwave) €8, too expensive.

I'm obsessed with this place. Everything I've tried is delicious. The only thing I wouldn't recommend would be the cold tea (because it tasted pure sweet to me), but I think it may be a matter of taste. The portions of the Pad Thai are good (my husband and I eat just one, but we also complement it with a shared starter). The service is excellent and the place is beautiful.

1. The ambience is amazing. Like really amazing. You feel like you're in the tropics. There are plants (fake) everywhere. It's definitely unique. 2. The service is excellent too. They're quick and extremely friendly. 3. I would highly recommend their Thai ice tea with milk. The tea tastes like it's freshly made, the sweetness is perfect. The quantity is good. 10/10. 4. We tried their #72. It was also very good. The rice was well cooked, the beans were delicious bursting with flavors, the tofu was firm and chewy, and the chilli sauce that comes with the dish was REALLY spicy and it actually complimented the dish well. 5. We also ordered the drunken noodles (#53). I didn't like it as much. It was lacking something. I couldn't put my finger on it. It was still good tho. Just not as good as #72. Overall a very good restaurant. I would definitely recommend this place.

You will receive friendly service, the food is very tasty (pad thai is highly recommended). The food is also served quickly. We will definitely come back again.

Food was excellent and the portions are generous. We really enjoyed this restaurant. The flavors were very vibrant and everyone had great food. I feel some of the other reviews are overly critical as we had great food and service. The Basil chicken was extremely tasty.

Nice place near Rotterdam Centraal. Heard good things about this restaurant so tried this with some colleagues. I ordered the Phad Thai Angel with chicken (Fried Rice Noodles with Bean Sprouts, Chives, Egg and Peanuts). I really enjoyed this dish, nice flavor and portion! My partner ordered the Phad Gi Ma (Drunken Fried Nodles with Long Beans, Mini Eggplants, Red Chili Peppers & Thai Sweet Basil). She did not like this too much, she did not like the flavor and the veggies were too undercooked. However I really enjoyed the flavor of this but I agree the vegetables were a bit off. The employee working was extremely nice and made the experience much better.

When the food arrived to table, it didn’t look very promising. Once we got to try it, it ended up by tasting exactly how it looks. Even though the environment is very pleasant, I don’t think the food makes it worth the money.

I ordered a couple of times from this place, and it's always so delicious, they put a lot of meat, and everything tastes great!

Cozy restaurant with very tasty food.

Delicious food here. Price may be a bit on the high side, but the portions are quite large in proportion. I would rather have made the portions a little smaller and a little cheaper for lunch. 😉 no more criticism, just a tip! Very attentive service. We were served by a super nice lady who took everything into account. Great!

So far only taken home, which has now become a weekly meal after a working day. Upon arrival, they already know which one I want, which also means that they know their customers. It's just as delicious every time. The place looks nice, so I will soon go there for the noodle dishes that are less suitable for take-away.

Quite expensive for what you get. Taste has been adapted to Europe, in other words I missed the original flavors.

Had lunch here on a warm spring day. A warm welcome by friendly staff. The food was authentic and very tasty. Unfortunately, there were no photos on the menu, which made it difficult for us to choose. Fortunately, there were more than enough good reviews with photos and we were able to choose a tasty looking dish 😀 So it tasted just like it looked, great!

When asked if he could explain the map, we didn't really get an answer. We were not asked if the food was tasty & we had something to drink once. After that, no further questions were asked. With payment, the woman indicated; thank you (with a slightly less pleasant head) and continued... I came home thirsty, the food was tasty and plenty of it.

A new Thai restaurant in town! And it's absolutely amazing. Every dish I ordered was authentic and out of this world. They get all the balance in flavours just right. It has often been said that if the phadthai is cooked well then it's a guarantee that the rest is good too. Well this chicken phadthai was SUPERB! Highly recommended! The location is near the central station/Chinatown at the Calypso tower. This used to be a dim sum restaurant Oriental Express. Oh yes, two more pluses: prices are very reasonable and affordable, and the service is one of the best you can get in a restaurant

Beautiful decor and friendly servers. The pad thai had good texture and proper spicy level, but unfortunately it was too sweet and I couldn’t taste the tamarind paste or oyster sauce.

Nice Thai restaurant with nice, tasty dishes that look attractive. Tasty Thai drinks and cocktails. Dishes are well seasoned and spicy dishes are also available. The atmosphere is modern.

I wanted a proper thai curry. I read one review here complaining about food being too sweet. I did not think they could make a curry like a spicy desert. Well...they sure did. Even for a desert it was too sweet. I could not eat it. After complaining they took it back and gave me something else. Off course making me pay 50% of the first one too. Their defense is that there are regions in Thailand where they like it extremely sweet. The second dish was a very spicy stir fry. Which at first bite could disguise the syrup in it. The next bites were again sickeningly sweet. Just ate the protein with a lot of rice to have domething to eat. They even have 4 containers on the table with some spices. 2 of them are sugar. No salt. Disgusting. Never again. Just go a bit further to a good one.

Had the spicy pad Thai with chicken, a shrimp dish with beans and rice and an egg, and spring rolls and it was delicious. This is probably the first time I’ve had seriously spicy Thai food in the Netherlands and while I love hot food and was very well warned by staff, I was a little dizzy with how hot it was. This is not Dutch spicy food. Next time I’d probably opt for the not spicy version, then add chili sauce at the table (as the waitress recommended) 🥵. But I still very much enjoyed the dish and all around experience!

5 stars for this fantastic restaurant! We have tried several Thai restaurants in the Netherlands, but none as good as here! Enjoyed Madame Thai for the second time yesterday! The flavors are very close to the flavors from Thailand and the super friendly service + allowance for allergies makes it a 10

Although it had 4 star review we decided to try it. Unfortunately, the critical reviews are true. Food might look like Thai food but doesn’t taste like it. The noodles we had tasted artificially and the rest was mediocre to say the least. Try another Thai restaurant I’d suggest. Also quite expensive for what you get…

Food was nothing special, staff was rude and I had to pay for water

Delicious food: good flavors, nice and spicy, large portions. Also very nice staff and nice atmosphere. We will definitely come back! Ordered: green curry + chicken, pad Thai devil + tofu, Thai ice tea, Thai ice tea + milk, not in the photo: delicious mango ice cream!

The atmosphere and general deco of the place is quite nice but after the food was served, it felt as if it [the atmosphere] was compensating for the lack of authenticity and flavour of the dishes. As a person from Southeast Asia, the food did not taste Thai at all. It was super sweet for god knows what reason. It’s as if every recipe includes adding a ladle of sugar syrup to the cooking pot. FYI, main components of Thai food include: Galangal, lemon grass and leaves, Thai Basil, fish sauce and most importantly- coconut milk. None of the dishes seemed to have either of those ingredients. We ordered: 1. Mixed Thai snack platter, which was actually decent and nice but the chicken satay was really bland. Could’ve added more salt to it. The fishcakes could have used some mercy of fish sauce to it to give its actual taste. The pangsit chicken was acceptable. 2. Pad Thai: This should’ve been a dessert instead because of the sweetness of it! Absolutely terrifyingly sweet! Pad Thai back in SE Asia used to make me sweat and have tears (cause of spice); the one here made me sweat and almost cry as well cause of the absurdity of the taste. Half of the ingredients are missing: fish sauce, oyster sauce, tamarind paste and generous amount of bean sprouts. 3. Green Curry Chicken: same as Pad Thai. Also why on earth is it so damn watery?!?! Where’s the coconut milk and bird eye chillis?! 4. Pad Khrapao: basically wok fried rice, which was the most edible dish in the entire order. It was decent as well but it tasted a bit sweet. 5. Khao Tom Mad: we wanted to place an order for the Thai mango sticky rice but unfortunately it was not available due to the off season of mangoes which is totally understandable. This was acceptable as well. Could’ve used a generous amount of coconut milk to it. All in all, such a disappointment; might’ve to just spend big bucks to book a flight to Thailand and eat authentic and flavourful Thai food instead of spending it in here. My heart cries.

Good food and not too expensive. Great for a tasty and quick Thai meal. We were here during IFFR, it was very busy but we were helped quickly and friendly by Tony.

Since I love spicy food, the food here suits to my pallate. The som tam is so delicious, highly recommended.

i really have to say this is the worst Thai food I have ever had. Clearly made by using flavored powders over authentic seasoning. We ordered each dish from every category, curry was overly greasy, soup tastes like supermarket powered soup, homemade drink? Nothing else but sugar. As Asian myself I have eaten Thai food all over the world. This sucks as hell. Omg, never come back again.

We both had a different curry. And mango sticky rice for dessert. Nice meal. Restaurant has a nice atmosphere. Service is friendly. We had to wait a little longer for the dessert menu. You'll feel like exploring Thailand after you've eaten here.

As several have indicated, unfortunately the food is not recommended. I ordered food for 70 euros and left almost everything behind. I thought that was a real shame. Normally I would take it with me for someone... but I won't make anyone happy with this. The massaman curry was watery. The red coconut curry is completely salty. Kindly let the chef taste it to see if this was normal, and he thought it was. It was really inedible (and I like it salty). The Tom Kha Kai had a good taste, but it was a pity that it contained too large pieces of chicken fillet, which made it difficult to eat with such a small spoon. Enough opportunity for improvement. Hope they work on it. Staff are friendly. Price/quality is not in balance.

It's a really nice restaurant with a very beautiful interior. The food was great and a very good spice level that we were expecting from Thai food. The service was not bad; they barely check on the table if everything is good. Other than that, it was a good experience and I really like how the menu card is sectioned into color boxes for different food segments and the allergies were listed with a qr code.

Staff very friendly but the food was really disappointing. Raw hard beans because of the nasi and a petroleum taste. The fried noodles also have a petroleum taste. What a bad taste experience. The plate with snacks was ok. The stir-fried meals were downright worthless

I had the Pad Thai here and after a long day it literally felt like a giant hug not gonna lie. It was so spicy and yummy and the crunchy peanuts were so perfect. They have really good vegetarian options as well, I had mine with tofu which tasted amazing. The iced tea was so different here, its the first time I have had an iced tea that tasted so sweet and unique. The portions were huge as well. Not to mention the mango sticky rice, it was delicious. 10/10 place.

Heerlijk gegeten!!!! Eerlijke keuken. Vriendelijke, gastvrije en snelle bediening. De rode curry die me werd aangeraden was erg smakelijk. Pikant maar net niet té 😉. Omdat ik niet kon kiezen tussen kip en garnalen kreeg ik beide!

The Pad Thai portion was huge but unfortunately pretty tasteless. The mint salad was a tiny portion and mostly onions. Service was good though, friendly staff and we got our food very fast.

Had a nice meal at this restaurant, I came half hour before closing time and the kitchen was closing, but they still let me in to have a meal. The staff is super friendly, see you next time! 🥰

Authentiek Thais restaurant met een fijne sfeer en lekker eten. Behoorlijk pittig, maar dat hoort er wel bij. Extra het vermelden waard: de bediening was altijd met een brede glimlach.

Zo blij dat ik deze restaurant heb gevonden! Echt authentiek thais eten, grote porties, en super lekker!! Vind het wel wat aan de prijs maar porties zijn wel voldoende. Service ook ontzettend vriendelijk en redelijk snel. Ging vroeger altijd naar Deli Bird, maar qua kwaliteit, porties, verhouding, smaak is dit echt veeeeeel beter!
