I had an almond croissant with chocolate and it was great! It was not as flaky as normal viennoiseries but it had a lot of filling which I appreciated. Especially price/quality for the Netherlands. I would come back to Leiden just for this bakery.

Honestly some of the best baguettes I have had in my life. This place has made me obsessed with french bakeries and I'm always trying to find places that are just as good, lucky I live in Leiden so I frequent here a lot. They have a huge range of options so there is always something tasty to try Its really busy on a Saturday when the markets are on so best to get there early. Super dog friendly and often has treats for my golden

Great selection, everything was delicious, unfortunately my croissant was stolen by a seagull, but when I wanted to buy a new one, I got it for free - VERY NICE!

I have loved this bakery for a long time, especially the au café éclairs. However, over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed that the filling seems to have changed. The flavor has become much more ordinary and no longer has the refined taste that made these éclairs so memorable. I truly hope you’ll consider bringing back the original recipe.

We stumbled upon Mamie Gourmande in Leiden by chance, but the delicious aroma and the beautiful assortment of bread and pastries immediately drew us inside. It is a small bakery and can get quite busy inside, but that actually adds to the cozy atmosphere. Despite the crowds, the service was super friendly and efficient. We enjoyed a delicious café éclair outside, which was truly exquisite. For a moment, we felt like we were in Paris! A great spot for lovers of authentic French bread and pastries. Definitely recommended if you are in Leiden.

Excellent croissants, baguettes, pastries, and other delicacies. The filled baguettes are great for a quick lunch.

The bread, croissants, and pastries are all excellent and worth a visit. Paying with a Swiss bank card (debit card) is impossible. I tried a total of five different bank cards within two days, and nothing worked. In the end, I withdrew money from an ATM for a CHF 5 fee. In this day and age, that's unacceptable.

Great offer! Unfortunately, as a tourist from Switzerland, we weren't accepted with our standard DMC (Debit Mastercard). This is a typical problem in the Netherlands due to the countless "unregulated" card issuers. To pay, we first had to get cash from a money market (fee!) and then return... @Mamie Gourmante: please change your issuer or accept all standard cards. Otherwise, it's a shame for your excellent shop.

Real French bakery in Leiden. Real! With good croissants and pains au chocolat ! Not the baking-soda-margarine-tasting-make-believe stuff that is sold in all other bakeries. Here you will find quiches, macarons, baguette tradition, tartelettes (chocolate, strawberry), éclairs, and sandwiches with brie and pâté 😍 Also, if you want to be swept off your feet, try the croissant aux amandes... with a little café au lait...perfect breakfast! PS Yes I've tested everything. And yes, I'm French.

Absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the Cacao delice (chocolate baguette). It's divine, as are the other sweet treats. It's worth waiting in the queue, which sometimes stretches out onto the street.

A truly wonderful French bakery, which you can tell by the line that sometimes forms. The service is fast, so the line moves quickly, but I prefer to go early on weekdays so there's no long line. I'm a big fan of the bread (they also have delicious sandwiches) and the pain au chocolat. The tartelettes always look delicious, too, but I've always managed to restrain myself and haven't tried them yet. The baguettes are always fresh, delicious, and affordable. Excellent value for money (especially since the quality is excellent).

I have been coming here for a very long time with great pleasure, because the food has always been delicious. Recently, however, I have noticed that the quality is really declining… The olive bread roll was completely black (actually unsellable as far as I’m concerned) and the almond croissants were not properly filled, so they were practically tasteless. It is a real shame because this wasn't the case before, and I always recommend this bakery to everyone! The filled baguettes are simple but still very tasty! I understand that it is very busy with long lines, but it is a pity when the quality suffers as a result!

One of the tastiest chocolate eclair in the Netherlands! Beautiful cozy bakery located in the heart of Leiden with plenty of choices in sourdough breads. Always a busy place where you have to stand in queue. But usually waiting time is less than 15 mins and it worths your time. Definitely recommended!

Mamie Gourmande is one of the few places where you can taste real French baking. The use of French flour and the work of French bakers really shows in the quality. Everything tastes authentic, fresh and full of care. Honestly, it is better than most bakeries I’ve visited in France. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are very kind. Absolutely one of the best bakeries in Leiden.

Bought Boulle traditional mini baguette with olives. Everything is mini now 🤔 the ​​baguette tastes like an old oil ball. No, not really recommended for that price.

Yesterday I bought 2 tartlets; these were tasty. I bought almond croissants and chocolate croissants; these were tasty. One of the croissants was dry and tough, so it was not fresh and not tasty. The croissants were handled with bare hands and then placed in the packaging. Personally, I do not find that hygienic; using tongs would be a good alternative.

My favorite bakery in Leiden! Always has a long queue on Saturdays. I think lots of people are crazy about their almond croissants. Would be nicer to have a more diverse menu for drinks as well. Also, I think they should work on their sandwiches.

Bought two tartlets. One with strawberry, the other lemon meringue. The strawberry one was very brown. It had a burnt and sour aftertaste. I only saw it once at the station, so walking back wasn't an option, otherwise I'd miss my train. I did send a DM on Instagram, but they said something had gone wrong with the sorting. No apology or refund. You pay €4.85 to €4.90 each. For that price, you expect more quality and service. My stomach and indigestion were still bothering me all night... So no, I don't recommend this bakery! Too bad. This bakery was praised online on social media and recommended by Google. The purchase was made on January 24, 2026, at 4:22 PM. The DM was also on that date with a photo. Unfortunately, I can't add a photo here.

It all looks delicious, but it's quite disappointing. I bought two caneles and they were tough, and the sesame baguette was so hard that the crown almost broke off. Too bad.

The staff was really rude today: the girl told me to take out my earphones while ordering because that would be rude. I simply asked my boyfriend via video call what I should buy him, and even when I explained, she kept saying it was rude. Okay, next time I'll just put the video call on full volume; apparently, that's less rude :/ I was just ordering some cakes, calm down.

What delicious treats! Lemon tartlet 🍋: perfect acidity from the lemon filling and a delicious, buttery aftertaste from the crust. French bread pate de campagne: this is how it should taste! Café Éclair: divine! Delicious, not-too-sweet filling and a lovely thin choux pastry.

Last weekend I was in Leiden, and I have to say: it's truly one of the nicest cities in the Netherlands, even though I live in Amsterdam. I actually stopped by for a loaf of bread, something tasty for late-night drinks and a dip. There was a lot of choice: from delicious French baguettes to beautiful loaves of bread, and the service was fast and friendly. We ate the bread at home, and it was delicious—super fresh, a crispy crust, and exactly what you miss with supermarket bread. I definitely recommend getting a loaf here. They also had croissants and almond croissants, which looked very good, but since we'd already had a croissant, we skipped it. We'll definitely try it next time.

We ordered a Baguette Épi, an almond croissant, a regular croissant, and a Délice Cacao. The woman at the counter was very friendly, and the decor was lovely. The food is homemade, which you can taste. Everything is very, very good! The baguette has a light sourdough flavor and is very easy to share, which is perfect for sharing with several people. The almond croissant is buttery, sweet, and very rich. The amount of almond cream is just right, so you can taste the almonds in every bite. The croissant is delicious and airy. The Délice Cacao was my personal highlight; it has a wonderfully subtle sweetness; you can taste the baguette on the one hand, but it also has a hint of chocolate cake on the other, especially with the large chocolate pieces. The price is also completely reasonable; we paid around €10 for everything together. I hope to return soon and try more of their delicacies!

Overrated! I have been to this bakery a couple of times and had mixed experiences. The quality of the bread is good, but definitely not excellent. The coffee has a low quality.

Wow!!! The best vegetarian breakfast opera laronds !!! So delicate and flakey with the perfect amount of cheese and spinach. A great lite breakfast. #allergygirl could not get hot tea and there wasn’t any milk free option. But I was not disappointed.

Insane chocolate almond croissant

Usually this was the place for us to get wonderful sandwiches, sadly the quality has gotten worse and worse in the recent months and we were hoping it was a temporary thing and we were just getting sandwiches at the wrong time of day or something. Whilst the chicken still had some stuff on it and looked kind of fresh, the brie sandwich was made up of stale bread, wilted rocket and 3 tiniest walnuts with a small splash of honey... I'm all up for not throwing food away but that is not the €6 eu sandwich I expected... very sad that this is happening. All the other stuff is delicious, hopefully this review will reach the manager so they can make great sandwiches again and we can call this our favourite place again.

This afternoon I was almost hit by a Mamie Gourmand van. The vehicle approached at speed a raised road surface on which I was already walking as a pedestrian. Instead of slowing down and giving me priority, the driver accelerated and drove around me to park 5 meters further on the Gangetje (facepalm). This behavior was downright dangerous and unprofessional.

Here they have a very tasty chicken sandwich (the bread is very crispy and sturdy so your jaws are put to work) and they also have very tasty tartelette aux fruits rouges. The apricot is also tasty, but I miss the cream and there are few apricots in the middle.

Real French bakery with plenty of choice of savory and sweet delicacies. Delicious snacks and sandwiches for lunch. Pain aux fruit rouges is delicious! Decent size, delicious! I was quite disappointed with the almond croissant. I tasted/discovered little or no almond filling, which made it a dry, hard baked croissant with more looks than (taste) experience. Same experience twice, so I won't buy it here anymore. I will definitely come back to try the other savory and sweet treats.

Been twice, once for a torsade au fromage and once for a pain au chocolat aux amandes. Both times really great and super tasty! I will definitely get the pain au chocolates aux amandes more often. I'm normally more on the “stingy side” when it comes to spending money, but the products from this bakery are definitely worth the price. Furthermore, a very relaxed atmosphere. Super!

I had a small lemon meringue pie for EUR 5. Compared to other pastry shops, it was a higher price. The meringue didn't taste like eggs, which was quite good. The rest just tasted normal. The bakery is quite small and busy, so if you are in a wheelchair you would have a lot of difficulty getting inside. There was a queue inside, but I got my turn quickly. Not that many sweet options in my opinion. But many bread types/types.

Heard so many good things about it and so I ventured into 'the queue' once... but unfortunately that resulted in the nastiest cheese twister ever eaten (€2.55). Apparently it contained spicy mustard, which was so overpowering that it really didn't taste like cheese anymore. I also had my friend taste it and he didn't like it at all. Such a shame!

A fantastic breakfast. On our last day in Leiden 😭. Pain aux rouge fruit was the best pastry I have ever had. The cheese twist was amazing. The coffee is hot and fresh. Yes, you will find more aesthetic places to have breakfast, than on the pavement next to parked cars, but it won't taste as good.

Overrated. I tried 4 items. The only item that was really good was the beignet de fruits rouges (jelly donut). The almond croissant was not that good. Very sweet and I detected no almond flavor in the paste.

If you have lived and worked in France you automatically become a bit of a whiner when it comes to food. For years I had hoped that a real French bakery would come near me and sure enough! So if you really want to eat authentic French bread or other delicacies, go to this place. The owner is French and so are the bakers. You can see that this tent is a success from the waiting line, so be there early.

I love "Croissant aux Amandes" here!! I could have had one on the day just before my departure ... so I have nothing left to do in the Netherlands. I recommend it for anyone who will visit Leiden except for Sunday (as the bakery is closed every Sunday).

had a funny experience here a few days ago...it was around 4pm and i was looking for some olive bread, knowing that i was, very likely, too late. sure enough this place was sold out. on the way out i notice 2 loaves in one of the display cases near the door, of what was listed as 'herb bread'...there was one large and one small...both the same price. i asked for one and the woman there gave me the smaller one. i didn't say anything, but...didn't think it was good business practice...the bread, itself, turned out to be nothing special... i don't think i'll be going by there again...
