Mario’s caffetteria in Rotterdam Centrum

Esta fue la mejor comida de nuestro viaje! De Londres a Bélgica y Rotterdam - esto fue lo mejor. Situado en un mercado moderno, todo sobre nuestra experiencia fue perfecto. La lasaña boloñesa estaba fuera de este mundo. Mi esposa, que ama el vino tinto, optó por un Amstel Rose - que era nuevo para nosotros, pero era excelente. Todo estaba delicioso y el servicio era maravilloso.

Mario's Caffetaria se ha convertido en nuestra primera parada al visitar el Markthal para tomar capuchino y cannoli. Bonito asiento - sentarse en la zona en la parte superior del puesto y un buen servicio. Un punto de mejora: no hay música alta por favor. Pero como prometiste: la próxima vez al Markthal, directo a casa de Mario.

We came for coffee and cannolis. The Dubai Pistachio cannoli was amazing!! The pastry was crisp and fresh, and coated with a layer of chocolate, then pistachio filling and chopped kunafa (shredded filo pastry).

Finally a REAL espresso. We also took one slice of 4 cheese pizza and a pasta bolognaise (both really good). The staff was prepared, kind and ready to help! The best thing about the place was the terrace upstairs with a nice view in the Markthal! Super recommended place where to stop during a stay in Rotterdam For sure i’ll come back!

The service is friendly, and there weren't many people for lunch. But I can't believe they call it a pizza. It's a shot of gluten with fat on top. The Margherita I taste everywhere here is one of the worst I've tasted. This pizza has to be delicate, soft and light. I don't get it. The tomato sauce is full of a coarse-tasting pulp. It's hard to imagine that it's been cooked instead of thrown out of a can. And especially if you're sensitive to gluten, the pastry is sloppy and explodes in your stomach with the first bite. My Sicilian cells are angry with me for having given in to this weakness of trying to eat this. Don’t lose time and money because a ridiculous piece of pizza is 6,50!

Everything amazing, the staff was friendly and the food was delicious. Recommend the pasta especially.

Very small portions (spaghetti bollognese and lasagna) but tasty. Not recommended. Staff friendly, but I didn't think asking for a tip was okay because portions were too small. I'm not complaining about the price or the taste, just to be clear, just about the small portions. The price was indeed €11.50 spaghetti + €1.50 for the parmesan. In the future, please mention the size of the portions, this will help avoid unnecessary discussions. That's a good tip! Kind regards Jurgen

The taste is ok with a relative reasonable price and the atmosphere is also good. But as people who don’t speak Italian or Dutch, specially if you are Asian, I won’t recommend you go there. The story happened today was quite unpleasant. A blond young waitress was serving me and she misunderstood what I would like to order, Cafe Latte which I have ordered many times in my life and specifically since I am living 6 years in Europe. I returned the wrong drink and after around 10 minutes my Latte was served. When I paid the bill, I found they charged me both the wrong drink and the Latte. She explained it was because she has explained clearly to me when I ordered the drink. I must said that I tried to double confirm if it is a big size Latte and she said yes, which was not the case. She said she has discussed with her boss and they decided to charge me both drinks even though I didn’t drink the wrong one. I was quite angry and refused to pay the wrong drink, the reasons are below: 1. I have tried to double confirm the drink and she still misunderstood. 2. Even they would have to charge me anyway, which I could understand as they have already made it, they should have told me before I ordered my Latte again. 3. They didn’t told me anything about the extra cost until I checked the bill and found it out. After discussing with 2 of the waiters and her boss, they finally agreed to remove the price of the wrong drink and reminded me to double confirm my drink next time when I visit a restaurant. I hope my bad experience will not happen to others.

Dined here in a large group and sat at a cosy spot on the roof terrace with soft music in the background. The service staff was patient & polite. Food was served quickly for the group. We ordered various types of pasta and particularly loved the lasagna bolognaise, Bolognaise spaghetti, Cacio e pepe Spaghetti & Pomodoro Tagliatelle. Tiramisu is fresh & delicious too.

Lasagna a little disappointing but the rest very good

It was a nice tent on the roof of the kitchen! There isn't much space but we were lucky! We came there for lunch and the paninis were very good!! The service was nice, but because it was so busy they sometimes forgot about us, but that makes sense considering how busy it is all the time. The atmosphere was nice, especially because it is located in the market hall. We had a nice time there and enjoyed being able to eat a sandwich in the market hall :))

This is an ideal spot for having lunch. The food is good quality and the dough of the pizza is delicious! The portions are a bit too small for dinner, so you’ll have to add a starter or dessert to fill the gap, but overall a good experience! Extra: the limoncello cannoli is a 10/10

Op het “rooftop terrace” heerlijke pasta en pizza gegeten met ons gezin. Vriendelijk, vlot en lekker! Gewoon doen als je een bezoekje brengt aan de Markthal!

What a nice terrace to relax for a while. Very friendly (English speaking) staff. Great price for one really tasty piece of quatro formagio pizza. Coffee with fresh cannoli (too many delicious flavors to mention), but we took (and shared) limoncello and amarene cherry. Party! Bravo 🍕

What a cozy atmosphere and what a beautiful place. It's so different, a kind of mini adventure.

Delicious cannolis and coffee. I ordered a white chocolate and pistachio flavored Canolli. Definitely recommended as a pit stop in the market hall! :)

Weird restaurant. Closes at 6:00 p.m. A beer costs a whopping €7.50.

verminous little shop, got the order wrong then made a big deal of heating the drinks that got cold because they left us waiting for 25 minutes, what a bunch of jokers. The thing that amused me the most was their cocky attitudes but to be honest, i’d be pretty peeved off if i was in my 30’s and still working a dead end job in a coffee shop 🤡 ………… (30/08/2024) Update to the reply from “Mario” on my original review ##### Did i have the opportunity to report this to the management before reviewing on google? … is that a joke? your arrogant staff messed up our order left us waiting for 25 minutes and then had the audacity to come with more attitude when we merely requested reheating the part of the order they did get right….. but that’s our fault for not reporting it to management? I will review and judge your occupation in any way i see fit when your products are sub standard, your staff are incompetent and you are condescending. instead of crying in your review section, put that effort into improving your staff, practices and products. “Finally”, i have reconsidered my review at this point, i was just going to post the original review and leave it as that but seeing as you have the same arrogant attitude as your staff, i’m going to make sure i post this review on every medium i can possibly find and update when needed so no one makes the same mistake i made by spending money with you. cry more.

The food was basic. In carbonara there eas not any pansetta.

I despise writing negative reviews, but I have to admit that the food at Mario's was well bellow our expectations. A group of five we decided to have lunch there and got a caprese, a bruschetta and five different pasta dishes. The bruschetta was decent but definitely not something to write home about. The caprese was accompanied with an OK pesto but the tomato was quite tasteless. The carbonara was, quite frankly, bad. It tasted just like a microwave ready-made meal, just some pasta swimming in cream, with -I guess- no more than two tablespoons of pancetta. It might be that this is their take on carbonara; it is a take I did not enjoy at all. On the positive side, the service was friendly and you can still benefit from the great atmosphere of the Markthal. The experience was not negative, rather a very disappointing one. I would highly encourage you to visit one of the many other places in the Markthal.

I'm a big fan of the Carpaccio sandwich! I want that for lunch every day. Seriously, you have to taste it.

Aragostines are very crunchy and well filled. We tried the pistaccio and nutella ones. I recommend the place for coffee and sweets. Prices are a bit higher than expected

I ordered the soup n Strozzapreti with Parmesan which is handmade pasta- I did enjoy the pasta with Bolognasis!

Excellent Italian restaurant with terrace at the top to enjoy the elevated view of the interior of the Market Hall.

The food was tasting very authentic. It was good pizza and even better bruschetta. Service was nice, friendly and fast. Unluckily the price was too high for the amount of food u get. I wasn’t even full after starter and main course and ordered myself a burger right after. Double the size of the pizza slice for 5 stars.

Horrible service, and the crew was very rude to me, and my 3 kids would not recommend it. Please do not waste your time on this place. The owner was mad the kids had dunkin, but the adults were going to eat and drink, which we made very clear multiple times. Kids will eat what they want, but to be mad about it shows poor ownership. Honestly, to look down on dunkin is funny, dunkin had good customer service, unlike your establishment. Your reply was incorrect, and I hope people do not go and buy from you and see you for the rude person you are. Two other restaurants allowed us to bring our kids dunkin and there was no issue.

Disappointingly, despite our anticipation upon discovering this establishment, our experience at Mario’s cafeteria was far from satisfactory. Arriving with my family of 7, we were intrigued by the prospect of enjoying both drinks and a meal at the bar. However, upon entering with snacks purchased elsewhere, we were abruptly informed that consuming outside food was allowed but if we wished to be seated everyone had to consume food there. While we respect house policies, the rudeness with which this was conveyed was unnecessary. As paying customers, we believe we have the right to choose where we source our food. The owner or manager's abrupt suggestion that I should eat elsewhere, despite our intention to spend over $200, was not only unwelcoming but also insulting. Furthermore, the waiter's assertion that some patrons prefer only drinks over food seemed contradictory for an establishment claiming to offer both. Ultimately, the poor service and authoritarian demeanor of the staff compelled us to leave, deeply disappointed by our experience at a venue that faces stiff competition in the area.

What a cool place. Theres a roof top seating area to go and enjoy you sweet treats coffee and drinks. We had coffee and canalloni, both were lovely, reasonably priced too and a table with a view ( my photo is rubbish though )

I always bring my family from abroad to have nice coffee and desserta, service was good BUT charging 1€ for a glass of tap water? No more words about it…

Locale nel mercato di Rotterdam con posti a sedere al piano superiore da dove si ha una bella veduta sull'edificio. Ottimo per uno spuntino, personale giovane e gentile, prezzi onesti.

The tarte flambée was okay and the atmosphere was very cozy despite the full market hall.

Sat upstairs on the terrace. Sat for a long time. Menu English/Italian. Service also spoke English. Not a problem in itself, I understand the current staff shortage. I don't really understand the English menu, but if you have an hour to be annoyed by everything, you will find something... We ordered quickly, received our drinks quickly and then the long wait began. We ordered at 2 p.m. and were quite hungry. After 45 minutes we asked where our food was (2 sandwiches and 1 Flammkuchen). It was difficult to contact the service, the boy did not make contact with his environment. It had been busy before, but at 'dead' moments, he did not look around, but at a tablet. Anyway, he went to the kitchen to ask and came back with the explanation that nothing had gone wrong, but that it took so long because of the crowds. (Should have said that before and not after we were convinced that we had been forgotten...) He was immediately gone again and busy with everything. Ordering a second drink was very difficult. Our food finally arrived at 3pm, an hour after ordering. Remove glasses, clear plates, ask for the bill: it was not possible. Paid €48.70. "No, no tip." So sad everyone! I hope it was a one-time coincidence of bad decisions. Mistakes can be made. By giving someone a little attention, it doesn't even have to be a free drink, even if it's just one look of 'I see you', you can prevent a lot of annoyance. And why the meal took so long: I really hope it wasn't because it was busy, because in that case I would advise walking on to the next place if it was busy.

You can eat very well at low prices for the excellent quality and abundant quantity of the dishes. The Italian waiters Francesco Pisano and the other from the Marche were very good. We ate upstairs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Nice restaurant inside the market hall. Both main courses and a lot of sweets are served here. We chose cannoli and coffee and were very satisfied. The cannoli are available with different fillings, so the decision was very difficult 😃 we sat upstairs and enjoyed the view and the pastries. Can be a bit loud when the market hall is full.

10x ja! Het eten was er fantastisch lekker & het personeel was er immens vriendelijk! Het eten kwam snel uit en de smaak zat helemaal goed, zeker een aanrader! Hou er wel rekening mee dat dit in de markthal zit en de zitplaatsen dus wel wat beperkter zijn. 🤗

The best thing about here is their Hot Chocolate for me, it tasted soo good and I even loved the mug. Please have it with whipped-cream which makes it better. We also had some Cannoli which were also yummy. I really liked the pleasant staff upstairs as well. Worth a visit.

Nettes Lokal, wo man zu Mittag seinen Kaffee oder Wein genießen kann. Wir hatten die Pasta. Einen Stern Abzug gibt es, weil etwas Geschmack in der Pasta gefehlt hat.

Ik kan alleen de cannoli reviewen, want die zijn waar ik woon niet te verkrijgen, dus die nemen we hier mee! Altijd keuzestress, zoveel te kiezen en allemaal even lekker.

We bought a couple of cannoli sorts and we will be coming back for more. Love it!!!
