Overpriced place with strange food

Dining at Masa was amazing. My favorite dish was Turkey Guajolote. The Esquites were another highlight. The combination of manchego, bone marrow, and spirulina elevated this dish. The Scallops were very nice as well with mix of jalapeño, kiwi, and grapefruit.

We came here via the wijnspijs tour. We enjoyed a nice white wine and an amazing taco!! It was delicious. The staff was friendly and explained everything they brought to our table very well.

We were here for the Wine and Food Walk on July 13, 2025. The food and wine were good. The service was also friendly. It's a cozy place. The only drawbacks were the heat (which lingers upstairs, even with the windows open) and the strong smell of weed/cigarettes that was present from the start. A shame, because everything else was very good.

Quite nice ambiance. Service had forgotten that we had to have had all courses within the 1.5 hour time slot. So he came to tell us that 'unfortunately there was no time left for dessert'. A 1.5 hour time slot is really too short. In terms of price-quality you get very little per course. Cocktails are much too expensive.

Not really Mexican but a good blend of Mexican flavors with local products. Great Mezcal.

Table of 4; shared dining. It was advised to choose 3 dishes per person. Really delicious food. Not the standard Mexican you expect in the Netherlands. The beef tongue in particular was very tasty! The cocktails with Mezcal were also good. Staff was friendly and service was fast. We will come back again

If you want authentic Mexican food, this is not for you. This is an experiment in being 'inspired' by Mexican cuisine but it is not really Mexican. It's more like a brainstorming exercise at cooking school. In addition, the restaurant seems to be run by various rules ordered by the owners. Cocktails all are mezqual based. Don't even think about tequila or gin.Dishes are quite limited and mostly odd. Feedback is not encouraged. For example, the chilaqiies was more like a salad than the creamy-cheesy dish I was expecting. The oysters were bathed in an indisinct sauce and we were told tabasco is not served here. The lengua was passable, however. The food arrives slowly because the kitchen seems to be in its own world. On top of that, they even charge 10 euro per pax to make a reservation. Masa was a disappointment. But to be fair, the server told us it is not really a Mexican restaurant. Anyway I will not be back.

being from Mexico it was a great surprise to find this place, one of the best food we had in The Netherlands. If you go to Rotterdam this is a must stop.

Don't believe the hype. I love authentic Mexican food and I also like fusion but this was not about anything. Expensive mini dishes that also taste mediocre to bad. Even the desserts weren't about anything. Failed experiment. The music was way too loud and the decoration, just like the food, is of little value. No mole, no burrito, no enchilada, you wouldn't call it a Mexican or South American restaurant. Ate with friends who are really streetwise about restaurants but who thought it was a lot of fun but found it a disappointment

Nice small menu with surprising and tasty dishes. Due to the chef's bold choices, not every dish was to everyone's taste. Location and service were excellent. Why only 3 stars? Because of the very high prices. Price-quality ratio is really skewed: over 300 euros for 4 people, I thought 100 euros was too much.

Very expensive for what you get. Flavors and ingredients are not special enough for the layout and size of portions. Staff is friendly.

Didn't have a great experience. Food was of good quality, but a number of dishes were "finished" and one that had not arrived (???). To top it all off, none of the wines we chose were available because the wine list was being changed. It's all a bit dull...

Well worth a visit. Creative cocktails, all celebrating mezcal, surprising tasty dishes with great service and warm atmosphere.

This place is amazing. The owner and staff are warm, welcoming and super cheerful. It made me feel like I was back in LATAM while in Rotterdam and that's not an easy feeling to replicate. The food was on point and the drinks exceptional, can't wait to go back.

Delicious food at Masa! Ideal for my gluten allergy, because everything is made with corn flour and that meant I could just choose anything on the menu. An additional plus are the delicious non-alcoholic cocktails. The tostada with guacamole is especially recommended!

I rarely write reviews, and certainly not bad ones. However, this was such a disappointing and expensive experience that I would like to share my experience. I really have no idea how this restaurant gets the good reviews. To start with, the service was very lukewarm and disinterested. Nobody looked happy. Then the food: As fans of Mexican cuisine, we know that the dishes can be so much tastier. This just wasn't good. In addition, the portions are very small. For a slice of pumpkin in a sauce you pay €14 here. And it's not even tasty. The Wagyu cost €30. For that we received a piece of (almost raw) meat that, with the best will in the world, you cannot call Wagyu. We couldn't chew it down because it was full of tendons and raw. The salmon looked like the cheap frozen salmon you buy in the supermarket. The dishes were not well seasoned. The one thing we all liked were the Guacamole tostades. We paid €30 for four very small portions. In short: don't be guided by the positive reviews and save yourself the disappointment.

Been there before, because of good experiences! Eating with a larger group this time was a different experience. The food was phenomenal, really good. Regarding service, we had some issues during the evening. We discussed this with the owner afterwards and he handled it very professionally. What a relief when a restaurant takes feedback seriously and works towards a joint solution. He stands for quality and that shines through everywhere. We will definitely come back and are just as enthusiastic as before.

Excellent food. Modern, based on traditional Mexican philosophy. The price is good considering the restaurant as an "affortable" fine dine concept restaurant. The service was one of the best I encountered in the Netherlands as it's not that common. The wine that was suggested was very good. Everything was really good, but I believe the tables are too close to each other. Nevertheless, nothing else but 5 stars.

So, if I am rating the place by the quality and the taste of the food, it is great! A bit expensive for the portions but it is really good. Now, is it Authentic Mexican Cuisine? 100% No. If you are coming here to try Mexican food for the first time please don’t!! And don’t get me wrong, some dishes were inspired through some of the ingredients but not even the Guacamole was made out of Avocado. Then, the service, OMG, it was the worst part. We waited like 25mins to get a drink and 45mins to get the food menu, they forgot about it! Then, they also forgot my 2nd round of drinks, and the same thing happened for some of the tables that were around me.

Unfortunately, a big disappointment. After reading the many positive reviews we were very enthusiastic. The food: way too salty, mini portions and forced 'luxury' by decorating each plate with dots of sauce The service: extremely unfriendly at the table - drinks took a long time, menu was presented quickly, no explanation about the dishes The atmosphere: nice furniture and vibey but way too cramped, practically on each other's laps Masa does have potential, but is not recommended at the moment.

We came with empty stomach, left with empty stomach and an empty wallet. The fine dining understanding is not working in the Netherlands.

The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic, creating a warm and inviting vibe. The food was simply outstanding! We started with oysters, and they were incredibly fresh and flavorful—so good that I find myself thinking about them every day. An unforgettable dining experience, highly recommended!

A great cocktail menu, impressively extensive mezcal list, and fantastic food. Lovely new addition to Rotterdam, especially west, but honestly something not found anywhere in the Netherlands and hard to find in nearby countries too. Genuine food, mexican modernist, local ingredients, constantly changing menu of food and cocktails.

I've been to Masa a few times and it's always an amazing experience. The menu changes frequently and the food is always innovative and delicious. Moreover, the atmosphere is elegant and cozy, and the music is very good. The staff is professional and polite

Not the place for authentic mexican food. Very expensive, small portions and although very fancy looking food, just not that good. €20 deposit necessary to book. Don't forget to ask it back when you leave early due to the underwhelming experience.

Best Mexican restaurant in the Netherlands, hands down! I had dinner with a Mexican friend and she said this was authentic and tasted almost exactly as it would in Mexico. All the dishes we had were amazingly tasty: Mezcal Chorizo, Pork Belly, Beef carnitas, Ceviche (with yummy puffed quinoa). What really stood out to us was the jalepeño jam that came with the starter: Mezcal chorizo - it is amazing! It was so tasty, we ordered second round 😄. The people working there were warm, welcoming and professional. The decor is beautiful with its contemporary-rustic minimalism and candle light. I’m happy that finally there’s a restaurant that gets it. Simply a delightful experience!

Very delicious food. Is modern Mexican, as opposed to traditional, so don't expect salsa tacos.However, the food is extremely tasty and unique. The service is very good, as the chef came to help us figure out our order, due to multiple allergies and vegetarian diet. We were also given detailed nice explanations about the menu and restaurant. And the toilet was very clean.

Went there during this summer, a bit late review. It's on a rather less busy street from nieuw binnenweg. They have a cute little back garden, however it was quite crammed. Their cocktails were superb but can't say the same for the food. Please be aware that this isn't authentic Mexican, rather a contemporary interpretation of Mexican dishes. The meat dishes were quite good and tender. But portions were quite small for the price, to be honest. The appetizers were so small, I thought it was just a sampling or something.

What a nice place. This restaurant combines authentic Mexican flavors with chef Frits' own twist. Don't expect standard dishes – it's adventurous and spicy, perfect for those with an open mind. Sustainability is key, so lots of vegetarian options and don't expect beef. The cocktails are a highlight: Noah is clearly a craftsman, and every drink feels like a little party. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, with earthy tones, candlelight and a host who makes you feel immediately at home. A unique asset to Rotterdam and definitely worth it.

Possibly one of the finest meals I’ve had! The pistachio crispy taco lives in my head rent free. Cocktails were also really good. Service was also great while not being very intrusive.

What an absolute delight to stumble on this restaurant. This establishment is closer to fine dining than I initially thought; this is reflected in both the quality of the dishes and (unfortunately) the bill at the end. Nevertheless, the experience was wonderful. It is rare that I get to enjoy so many new taste experiences in one evening. Authentic Mexican but with a light twist, I loved it.

Amazing mexican food place. Do not expect street food, but more like authentic mexican food with a fancy twist. Minus points for not having hand made tortillas, but prices as if they would. The totopos surprised me, they were very good!

We had a wonderful evening and an excellent dinner here at Masa. The food was exceptional. I especially liked that the plates were not just the usual standard Mexican dishes we know in Europe. I was transported back to my holiday in MXC, so I loved it.

The food was amazing! As a Mexican, I’m used to just accept that food outside of Mexico is not going to be great or that it’s just going to stick to the classics. Masa has a modern Mexican cuisine offering that really offers a different product. We ordered the Nixtamalized Carrots in white mole, texture was perfect, contrast with the mustard sauce was on point. The carnitas with apricot sauce were cooled to perfection, on the crispy side but in perfect balance with the tomatillo green sauce and delicious tortillas. We also ordered the chorizo with Mezcal, it seemed uneventful at first, but it had this delicious jalapeño marmalade that I wish I could just buy at the supermarket. We finished the experience with a mezcal, we were lucky with the weather and got seated at the backyard, a very cozy atmosphere and simple but modern Mexican decoration. Will definitely come back!

The food is really delicious and their cocktails are amazing, they keep changing from time to time. They have a good selection of Mezcals. It is a little on the high end but every cent is totally worth it. Highly recommended for a date night 😉. The staff is super friendly.

Fine dining Mexican style! You can share all the dishes, so you can taste a little bit of everything. The staff are very attentive but not too pushy. The atmosphere is relaxed. Try different cocktails, each one is delicious and unique. There is also a wide range of Mezcal, which is of course essential in a Mezcaleria. The entire menu (including cocktails) is constantly changing, so be surprised!

I went to the restaurant Masa - Mezcaleria & Antojitos and we sat at the bar. Our bartender, Noa, was very friendly. We did a mezcal tasting that Noa choose and explained in detail. The food was quite good, but unfortunately, our “dorado” was undercooked and came out raw. We sent it back and got a new one that was delicious it was my favourite dish, they took the complete dish of the bill without having to ask . We ordered desserts, and they were good too. The restaurant closed 1 hour and 30 minutes earlier than the time listed on Google, so we felt rushed to leave while we were still drinking beers and cocktails.

It was a mix of many flavors. Recommendations to try the different main courses and share between you. The pork and steak dish is super good. Try the different cocktails, they are quite different and surprising in their various tastes, both sweet, sour, powerful and spicy.

We had a fantastic evening yesterday at Masa. From the amuse to the dessert, everything tasted incredible. The staff was very friendly and took the time to recommend my boyfriend some mezcal to go with the dishes. The atmosphere was just very relaxed and the interior did remind my boyfriend (he’s been in Mexico) of the dryness and earth tones in some Mexican places. We will definitely be coming back!! One of the best restaurants we’ve been to in recent months, and believe me, we love to visit restaurants :-).

Beautiful restaurant, with very friendly staff, delicious food and very tasty (also non-alcoholic) cocktails. In the garden it feels like you are on holiday; and that in the center of Rotterdam! Highly recommended. It was my first time, but I will definitely come back again!

How is this place without a Michelin star? Seriously attention to detail is out of this world with these guys. The food here is not only authentic Mexican, but Masa original. It's truly an exceptional place with an exceptional team.

A piece of Mexico that came to Amsterdam, excellent food, I was surprised by the quantity of liquors, it is not common to find so many and of such good quality abroad. Very good service although a little slow, the waiters and the owner are very cool, they know what they are selling and they explain it in detail.

I have never eaten such special Mexican food, what a gem this is! Every dish is delicious and the non-alcoholic cocktails are second to none. Go try it people!

What a great cosy restaurant. Dishes with the taste of Mexico. Patricio is a great host, he explains the dishes and has knowledge on the 43 different Mezcals they have. Ask for some extra salsa to spice up your dish or order a nice cocktail. We really enjoyed our evening. Keep it up!

I had wanted to eat here for a long time, and despite it being fully occupied, the owner still set up a table for us. Now that's service! The welcome – the service in general – and the farewell were very pleasant. Many restaurants can follow this example. The atmosphere was largely determined by this. The warm interior (special mention for the special tables and chairs) and the pleasant audience did the rest. Then the food; a nice menu with special dishes, super fresh and tasty. Maybe one dish was a bit out of place, that wasn't really my taste, but otherwise, very, very tasty. I will definitely come back and I recommend this restaurant! Go see and taste it!

So, you have a craving for Mexican food. You turn to Google and Masa comes up. The place to be for original Mexican food and a Mezcal bar as well. We were received like VIPS and although we did not have a reservation they did go the extra mile to arrange a table. After a lecture and a tasting of various Mezcals it was time to be flabbergasted by the various dishes. Absolutely fantastic. Feel the warmth of the south of Mexico on your plate. The super friendly hospitality made it a real treat! So whether you are here from abroad or just a local looking for something different and really good, Masa is where you need to go!

Amazing flavors and even better cocktails.

Food was fantastic. major flavour. We tried the aubergine tacos, guacamole tostadas, chorizo, and the last 3 mains on the menu. Dessert was heavenly. We also had multiple rounds of cocktails which was nice and strong, the wine selection was substantial and with choice. Would recommend! Small plates and a bit peicy, but worth what you pay compared to other restaurants that claim to have the same standard and pricing.

I was here last week and i had an amazing time. The food brought me back to my travels in Mexico. The drinks were also super tasty! My only point of criticism is that two of the staff members were kissing and feeling each other up behind the bar throughout the whole night. This is very distasteful and unprofessional (NSFW). Making us and our neighbors very uncomfortable. Keep this behavior at home!!!

We had high expectations. The cocktails tasted great, but some were served in a small glass and still costed 12/14 euro. The food was okay, also small amounts and highly priced. Service was super!

A little too woke for my taste. Let's face it, nobody wants to save the world by eating Mexican fare. Cocktails are grandly described but mediocre IMO. Pricey for Mexican.

Came here on Friday to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. From the moment we entered we felt like we were on vacation. Excellent food, amazing staff and just a great experience overall. My favourite dishes were the aubergine tacos and the conxhinta pibil. Also the best cocktail I've had in Rotterdam. I would definitely recommend a visit if you're interested in Mexican food and mezcal. We were seated at the bar which turned out to be an excellent decision. Fun conversations with the barenter Noa was a great host and made our experience extra special. 10/10, you will definitely see us back soon for more food, vibes and mezcal
