Millie Vanillie in Oostelijk Havengebied

Today, August 10, 2025, I tried again, with different expectations, in a series of specialty bakeries for baguettes. I was early on Sunday this time and had to join a long line. The selection of bread and pastries was more than sufficient. This time I got two baguettes and a cinnamon roll. The baguettes were tasty and, at €2.75, one of the most expensive in this series, but not far above average. I found the roll tasty and crispy, a little sour—fairly comparable to the one from Stadsbakker van As, but a bit nicer and a bit less sour (if they were the same, I wouldn't be surprised). My wife also found it too sour. The cinnamon roll is excellent; I'll probably come back for that. Maybe for the baguette too, but only for myself, not for my wife. In short, I can significantly improve the score. 2023 Very disappointed. Today (Mother's Day, May 14, 2023), I went there around 1 p.m. with my wife and daughter, planning to have a nice lunch with special sandwiches and/or delicious pastries. Sitting at a table wasn't possible, so we had to eat at home. The selection of pastries and bread was very limited. The prices weren't clearly displayed. We ended up leaving with three cinnamon rolls and a fig loaf. The price, at almost 18 euros, felt far too expensive.

Very nice coffee spot where you can get delicious croissants!! The chocolate croissant is also definitely recommended. Also nice coffee and nice outdoor place to relax with a cup of coffee. Too bad they only have croissants on the weekend... and if you are late on the weekend days everything is gone. So if you are on time you have a delicious breakfast, if not you are very unlucky :(

It’s a gorgeous bakery and great selection, but the customer service was lacking . The sourdough was great, the almond croissant barely had any filling so that was disappointing but the croissant itself was flaky and buttery. I just was expecting more almond filling inside

A Must-Visit Café for Coffee and Pastry Lovers! We had the most delightful experience at this café – so much so that we visited two days in a row! The coffee is absolutely delicious, perfectly brewed with a rich and smooth flavor. But the real stars of the show are the pastries. The cinnamon buns are an absolute highlight – soft, gooey, and bursting with flavor. And the cardamom buns? Simply unforgettable! Everything is incredibly fresh and baked on-site, filling the air with the most heavenly aroma. The service is a solid 10/10! The staff are incredibly kind, attentive, and radiate a calming, welcoming energy that makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. We were particularly impressed by a German student working there – he was so friendly and helpful, truly going above and beyond to make our visit special. The café is clearly loved by many, as there was already a queue at 10 a.m. – but it’s worth every second of the wait! The popularity is a testament to just how amazing everything is, from the baked goods to the ambiance. We can't recommend this café enough. It’s a little slice of heaven, and we’ll definitely be coming back on our next trip!

Milli Vanilli was an R&B duo in the 1980s. I LOVE that if you mention their #1 hit (“Blame It on the Rain”) to one of the staff, you get a 15% discount on all baked goods. Try it!

A wonderful little bakery with great coffee. This neighborhood is so lucky to have this spot !

They have the only croissant in town that makes me close my eyes and think of Paris. Their breads are well fermented and have that sour tang that i enjoy so much in sourdough. Have not tried a lot but so far very pleased. Coffee could be a bit stronger thou. But i'll forgive anything if the croissant is outstanding, like that of Millie's ! Happy customer :)

Really really good bakery. The bread is exceptional. Great flavour and texture. Lekker. The croissant of ham and cheese, amazing. The puff pastry was very well made, crispy. Te pistachio bun, very delicious. I thought it would be very sweet, but no, it had an exact point of sweetness and I loved it. The flat white small portion but good. Added to my trusted sites.

February 2025 Of course we need good bakers in this part of Amsterdam. And it's busy in the weekends and with a reason. Love their products, especially the ham-cheese croissants they are perfect, the croissant dough is what you expect in France. And yes the Cinnamon (Kardemom) buns are good as well. Their coffee could use a punch and might be a bit stronger, in cappuccino the milk is what you tast. Otherwise it would all be 5 star ....

Awesome!!! But 10:00 on the weekend is sometimes a bit inconvenient. :)

THE VERY BEST CARDAMOM BUNS EVER.

Great sourdough bread. Lovely cinnamon, cardamom and pistachio buns. As a Swede, the cinnamon rolls are definitely approved! Amaretto (?) cookies are also great.

Unfortunately no longer a fan. The last couple of loaves I've bought all had too tough of a crust at the bottom. Even my electric knife struggled to carve through. I love a good crust but this is too much, making the bread not enjoyable to eat.

Small local bakery. Simplistic modern interior design. Only 1 small bench available in the bakery. 1 small bench outside and theres a slightly bigger picnic table available outside oppisite the bakery. 1. Pistachio bun: Not bad. chewy and a bit soft. 2. cardamom bun: I heated this up at home. I enjoyed it. strong cardamom taste and not too sweet. Not super soft but it had a slight chewiness to it so i still enjoyed it. (update: went back and the bun was a lot softer and nicer the 2nd time!) 3. mini sourdough: my partner said it was very sour compared to other sourdough and his mouth kept making more saliva due to the sourness, but he enjoyed it. 4. ham and cheese croissant: Really buttery croissant and it was nice. Decent size. My partner said its the best ham and cheese croissant he's had. 5. almond croissant: large in size. thin layer of almond paste inside the croissant. Not too sweet and the almond isnt too overbearing. 6. chai latter: normal, not too sweet. theres no lid so you should drink it before you set off or drink it whilst walking. 7. cappuccino: my partner said it was quite nice. Would I visit again: yes.

I absolutely love the pastries from this bakery! We had the one with pistachio and the one with cinnamon and they were so tasty! All their products are baked with sourdough and organic ingredients, amazing! I usually get quiet bloated when I eat pastries with gluten, but not after eating their goods :) The place is also very aesthetic and calming, which is always a huge bonus for me. The coffee and latte’s also taste good, the only thing I would recommend is to maybe get some more options for vegan milk, like from the brand Rude Health for example (without any gums or seed oils) 🙏🏼 They also don’t serve matcha, which is quiet surprising these days for places like this. But that’s all just personal preference :)

Opposite my daughter's school. The smell of warm, fresh bread lures me in. Always sincere, nice people who take the time for you and are friendly... Then at home with that warm bread in that sturdy paper bag... every time my eyes close for a moment with pleasure at that first bite (of the bread, the bag leaves I lie) By far the tastiest bakery in Amsterdam (and beyond). ❤️

This is the best place in Amsterdam for bread and pastries! I am a big fan of bread and have been to many places in thr city. The owner knows how to make the best bread and pistachio bun is the tastiest food I ever tried. I would travel miles for them. And actually was one of the reasons we moved to the area! Come and see for yourself!

Still haven’t found a better croissant than here in town (and I’m French ;)). Coffee is good, the place is peaceful and the staff is super friendly 😉

Great baked goods and coffee! I can only eat the gluten free items, the coconut ball and almond cookie, which are both delicious. But our friends rave about the pistachio buns and the mini seed loaf. They have the best chai latte in the neighborhood.

Great store with the REAL baguettes as you get them in France! Bread is really good quality and the pain-au-chocolate is really a dream when you have it fresh from the oven 🤗 staff is always super nice too! Asset in the neighborhood.

Great scones, and perfectly executed flat white. Not a whole lot of choice in pastries (8;45 on a Wednesday), but friendly staff. They probably could accommodate a couple of tables inside, but it is a bakery and not a café.

A cute little bakery! A nice smell creeps into your nose as you walk inn. They had sourdough bun, pistachio bun, cinnamon bun and coconut balls with great taste! And also much more I would love to try if I had more time!

Went there to get something small for breakfast, since I stayed at thr niu fender. Super friendly staff, delicious pastry! I had a pain au chocolat and it was out of this world (only in Paris had i had something as simiparly good) The puff pastry was deliciously crunchy on the outside and the inside was so buttery, juicy even, soft and not at all dry or flaky. If you are in the area definitely come visit and eat the pain au chocolat!!

I found this bakery on a walk and it’s so beautifully decorated and their pastries are insanely good. Their pistachio bun is a 12/10!!!

Life-changing bakery! Such an important element to the neighborhood wellbeing.

I am so happy with this find! Millie Vanillie is a neighborhood bakery with an excellent selection of delicious coffees, rich pastries and sensational sourdough breads. My personal favorite remains the porridge bread. Super soft and light in taste, I can eat a whole loaf of bread by myself. All patries, croissants and breads are made by hand by a fantastic team of always cheerful and passionate ladies. An absolute must for anyone who is in the area or would like to cycle a bit to discover this gem for themselves.

I've been twice now. First time I had a nice cardamom bun. Second time I waited while a coffee was made for another customer. Then I waited. Then I waited. Then another customer came in and the second member of staff at the back said hello to them, and continued to ignore me. Then I waited some more. All the while, ignored without even a "hello, we'll be with you in a moment". There are many places like this, including many with as good or better food. But there are so many more with better service.

Zeer fijne aanwinst voor de buurt! Ik vind het brood en de zoetigheden echt heerlijk. Er hangt wel een hoger prijskaartje aan (die ik overigens wel begrijp) daarom houden wij het bij speciale gelegenheden.

I love this place and would say it is definitely worth visiting even if you dont live/work in the neighborhood. The pastries are always on point and the loafs are unmatched. The seeded country loaf is my fave!

Love this bakery! My favorites are the amazing baguette bread and the cardamom bun. Would love for them to make baguettes everyday and not only Friday to Sunday.

It is not just the fact that every food is delicious and great looking but also that the people working there are just awesome. The whole bakery is acting like a big, loveable family and they treat you as their friend since the first moment. I have met them a couple of times during my stay and imo both service and products are 5/5. Highly recommended. Hungarians! Nagyon jo kis pekseg, mindenkinek melegen ajanlom, a szemelyzet nagyon kedves, aranyos. A hely maga nagyon hangulatos es a peksutemenyek nagyon finomak. 5/5 ajánlom 😇✌️

This is hands down the best bakery in Amsterdam - with its delicious sourdough crusty rustic bread which is fluffy and moist on the inside. Other than bread and pastries, there’s great specialty to-go coffee; fantastic iced lattes, hug-in-a-cup cappuccinos, and strong flat whites and espressos (of course with your choice of organic cows milk or Roa oat milk). The pastries include scones, cinnamon and cardamon buns, and also ones with toasted pistachio and velvety custard. I believe these buns qualify as the epitome of comfort food. Their gooey sweetness is simply unmatched, making them the best I’ve ever had! Millie Vanillie might be a bit on the outskirts of town but nonetheless a great area to explore. And definitely worth it for the delicious coffee and baked goods!!

Quite expensive for a normal coffee… tiny capuchino for 4.20?
