By far the most expensive glass of beer my wife and I have ever drunk was on Tuesday afternoon, August 18th, at Café Meneer Jansen, Nieuwe Rijn 20 in Leiden. We had to shell out €23.60 for two half-liters of Grimbergen Blond. And this was no mistake. Too bad I forgot to ask for the receipt. Ugh, what a dirty rip-off.

Small but very cozy cafe where we only had a delicious decaf cappuccino that day. For a few years now, you can also eat here. The menu selection is modest, but tasty.

They really have the best coffee with apple pie here! You just have to try it, Perfect!

Lovely beer on the terrace boat

We stopped here for a quick lunch. It was nice to sit outside on the boat and people watch. Even though it was busy, service was good.

We won't be ordering food here again; three small meatballs for too much money. The bread was meh.. The service is great and attentive, and the beers are tasty; extra water in hot weather gets an extra star.

Always really fun and a nice wide variety of beer.

A cozy pub with a lovely beer garden, a large selection of beers, and coffee and cake are also available. The quality is excellent, and they even have oat milk for those with allergies! The restrooms are very clean for a place of this size.

Nice bartender (that emo named Kyle who says he's bi but actually isn't. If you ask and he says yes and he shakes, then he's lying). Good beer though, unfortunately no Schultenbraût...

Only sweethearts with a deep understanding of beer and a passion for their craft work here! A real local pub, and great for lunch too.

For 35 years, the cafe I have to visit whenever I'm back in Leiden. The nicest daytime cafe in the Netherlands, and virtually unchanged all that time. Not gentrified, because Mr. Jansen is already hip without even trying.

A no-nonsense pub with friendly, efficient service and a pleasant atmosphere. It has a very wide selection, and is highly recommended for true beer fans. Inflation has also taken its toll, so the prices are steep, but you can't blame the establishment for that.

A bar you can't resist falling in love with, the staff are always extremely friendly and make every visit feel all the more entertaining. The board game selection has never let my friends and I down, and the drinks selection always offers something new to try. The interior is extremely cozy with a wonderful music playlist perfect for the colder nights, while the outside sitting area overlooks the city life and feels vibrant during summer evenings. I would highly recommend this place for any group of friends looking to make everlasting memories.

There are not many pubs like Mr. Jansen left in the city. Certainly not so perfect on the water. A cozy place to catch up and exchange the latest gossip. Order drinks at the bar or at the table and nowadays it is even possible to order something to eat

This is a super fun place to go if you want to sit outside in the sun! I would definitely recommend going here for a drink or a quick bite.

Great bar, sit and read with a fantastic background soundtrack (indoors) . In the heart of the tourist trap, you are detached. Loved it.

One of the better choices when you're in the touristy centre of this city. The wonderfully diverse staff here is what sets this place apart from the terraces populated with 16 year-old servers.

Very cordial atmosphere and cordial. Excellent choice of tostis. Also vegetarian. Very good choice of beers. They even have Bolleke (excellent beer from Antwerp).

Our favorite -games- pub in Leiden, large range of beers + the wine and snacks taste good. They also have vegetarian bitterballen. Always relaxed and relaxed + a sunny top spot to watch people, boats and seagulls.

You could turn this opportunity into a great business. But then a lot has to change. Well-trained staff and more than just 2 or 3 people serving... We were there for the 2nd time and again had to wait way too long for our coffee. And even longer at lunch, even though it wasn't even that busy.

Friendly staff and a nice place to catch up and have a beer. The terrace has sun for a long time and it is nice to stay there with a nice view over the water and the bridge. If it is busy in the summer, it is possible to sit on the bridge.

Cozy cafe with quite a few tasty beers to taste. Staff was very friendly and open to a chat, and had enough knowledge to advise. Bittergarnituur was a bit disappointing, but that could also be due to incorrect expectations on my part. In any case, we had a pleasant evening!

Lovely sat on the terrace🌞🥰. Had a nice coffee and ate a sandwich, both very tasty. The service was very friendly, and the ladies worked very hard, as the terrace was full and there were only the two of them. We come here regularly and will continue to do so 😁😉.

Fijn (boot)terras op een prachtige locatie. Erg vriendelijk en gezellig personeel die je verschillende biertjes laat proeven alvorens je definitieve keuze te maken. Ik kom graag snel weer eens terug.

De planning was dat we gewoon even op dit terras zouden neerstrijken, maar we bleven er een hele tijd hangen. Een zeer gemoedelijke sfeer en erg prettige bediening. We belsloten een cortado te bestellen, in de verwachting dat ze dat wel niet zouden hebben. Nou, ze hadden er niet alleen 1 maar het was een echte Spaanse. Hier komen we zeker weer een keertje terug!

Leuk cafeetje. Mooie bierlijst en leuke plek. Wij hebben alleen buiten op het terras gezeten en dat was prima.

Sfeervol pand met een heel fijn terras, goed personeel die weet hoe een cocktail klaar gemaakt moet worden en het is er erg gezellig. Dit café heeft zijn karakter en ziel weten te bewaren.
