Mondi Amsterdam New-West Caribbean Cuisine in Slotervaart Zuid

The high tea looked fantastic on the website, but unfortunately, this was not the case in practice. The photos show completely different snacks than what we received. The description also mentioned Caribbean and French flavors, but in reality, these were Dutch soft mini rolls and not special sweets; typical hotel food. The soup tasted like canned Unox soup, and the fruit was either canned or packaged, not even freshly prepared. It was a disappointing high tea with little flavor. Fortunately, the staff was very sweet. For the price, I would not recommend this to future guests who want to do this. You could get a super luxurious lunch for that price.

During our stay at the Corendon Hotel, we had lunch and dinner at Mondi. The Caribbean-inspired dishes were incredibly flavorful, unique, and beautifully presented. The service was professional, a special thank you to Omar and the rest of the team, they were genuinely warm, attentive, and made us feel very welcome ☺️

Excellent food, fabulous service thanks to Omar's help in guiding us through the menu. Excellent cuisine. The music may be a little too loud for a restaurant, but the place aptly positions itself as a Caribbean lounge bar.

Mixed feelings on this restaurant. Started off terrible. We went to the front desk as the sign said they were not open until 5:30pm for dinner and it was just before 5pm, so we asked if they recommended anything else since they were not open yet. The gentleman said we should try their restaurant and that they were indeed open. He walked us over and went in and grabbed Omar, and Omar walks right up to my wife and says very aggressively and condescendingly ’can you not read a sign, we don’t open until 5:30’. I was ready to leave but my wife for whatever reason still wanted to go as anything else we would have to walk a ways to and we already had a long day. Thankfully we got a different person waiting on us when we got sat. Omar came over at one point when we were seated and said ‘I’m the one who was rude to you’. Maybe that was his version of an apology I guess as we never got a straight up one. To add insult to injury we sat and waited and they sat others before us and BEFORE 5:30. Our waitress was great, and she answered any questions we had. The food was a toss up. Had the tuna tacos, BBQ spare ribs, beef tips and fries. The tacos and beef tips were excellent, the spare ribs were not. This was quite a pricy meal, I’d say overall even removing the incident to be fair I wouldn’t dine there again as I didn’t think the food or experience matched what you paid for. BTW I don’t blame the person at the front desk as they were incredibly kind and helpful during the visit. The hotel is great, just disappointed in the restaurant.

I visited again last Saturday, and I have also celebrated Christmas here and stayed at the hotel several times. Every visit has been a wonderful experience thanks to the exceptional service provided by both the hotel and the restaurant, something that is becoming increasingly rare to find in Amsterdam. I would especially like to highlight the outstanding hospitality and service in the restaurant, with a special mention to waiter Omar. We have been served by him twice, and on both occasions his service was truly exceptional. He is attentive, professional, and makes guests feel genuinely welcome. The food is delicious, the prices are very reasonable, and later in the evening the music creates a lively and enjoyable atmosphere, especially during the weekends. I am also very much looking forward to experiencing the high tea soon. I will definitely be returning very soon! Saida

We got to know this Mondi in early April. The food was delicious, but unfortunately, the service on this Saturday evening left us with empty glasses. It all took just a little too long. Not the experience we once had at the ‘old’ Mondi College Hotel, but all in all, a nice evening.

Food is good but service at the bar is like, no one really cares about your time.

Mika deserves a 10; he is truly a top gentleman. His demeanor, friendliness, and service are top-notch; the customer is king, and that is how he treats his staff. He politely asks what we need. Omar gets a 10, and Lila gets a 10; they are top performers and know how to be customer-friendly. The rest should take a leaf out of their book! Furthermore, it is a beautiful branch, top-notch, highly recommended. Prices are reasonable, but it is a shame that you get so little for your money. But it is a nice place.
