Nacional is definitely in my top 3 of best restaurants in Nijmegen! For my birthday, I enjoyed a six-course menu with paired wines, super comfortable chairs, excellent service, and a fantastic view of the Waal River (at sunset). A perfect evening from start to finish! I had a fantastic birthday 🤩😘

My husband and I had an incredible dining experience at Nacional! Everything—from the food and atmosphere to the service—was exceptional. We were visiting Nijmegen for my husband's business trip, and on our last night in town, we wanted to enjoy a special meal. The menu immediately caught my attention, and that sealed the deal for us. Located right on the water, Nacional offers a beautiful setting. We were initially seated outside, but when it got too windy, the staff kindly accommodated us indoors without any hassle. We shared a bottle of rosé and later treated ourselves to coffee cocktails (I had an espresso martini). Our meal was a true feast—we started with a shared appetizer, followed by individual starters, entrees, and desserts. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. What made the evening especially lovely was the relaxed, leisurely pace of the meal. It gave us space to truly enjoy the food, the ambiance, and each other’s company—something we don’t often get back home. Originally from South Carolina and New Jersey, we moved to Wisconsin in 2021—and to put it gently, the food scene there doesn’t quite compare. So this meal felt like an absolute gift. During dessert, we had the pleasure of chatting with the owner, whose warmth and genuine passion for food, wine, and even Christmas decorations really shone through. As we left, both of us agreed: Nacional wasn’t just the best meal we had in Nijmegen—it was one of the best meals we've ever had, period. If we’re ever back in town, a return visit will be a must!

Vanuit het restaurant kijk je mooi uit over de Waal! Binnen is het elegant en chique aangekleed. Je wordt warm ontvangen aan de deur en ze nemen je jas aan. De service is prettig en vriendelijk! We moesten niet lang wachten op ons eten, maar het eten zag er desondanks prachtig uit. Het was niet druk op dat moment. Heerlijk gegeten en goede prijs/kwaliteit verhouding.

Het restaurant ligt mooi en heeft een fijn gelegen terras met iets minder comfortabele stoelen. Een zeer hartelijk welkom bij aankomst voelt goed! Het eten was goed; kleine details die net anders zouden kunnen misschien: - bij een steak tartaar is een rauw (of op z’n minst zachtgekookt) eitje toch het lekkerst, zelfs als het een kwarteleitje is - de tagliatelle was goed al dente gekookt en mooi op smaak gebracht. Als deze iets minder strak opgedraaid wordt, is het makkelijk eten en hoeft er niet gesneden te worden in de pasta. - Wij hadden geen haast, maar de tijd tussen de gangen voelde vrij lang, zelfs als alle gerechten vers gemaakt worden. Met 2 kinderen aan tafel was het een goede optie geweest om even af te stemmen hoeveel tijd er tussen de gangen zou moeten zitten. Dit is een aanrader, prachtig plekje en leuke eigenaar. Het oogt fris, schoon en met liefde ingericht!

Wij hebben heerlijk gegeten. Prijs/kwaliteit is on point. We voelden ons door de manier van het ontvangst en de service ook direct thuis. Aanrader!

Enjoy a delicious meal at Nacional. On a quiet part of the Waalkade, beautifully situated on the west towards sunset with a view of the Waal. Friendly staff. It was quiet when we were there, probably due to a holiday the day before.

Recently had dinner at Nacional. A beautiful restaurant with beautiful views. It's been a long time since I had such good food in Nijmegen, at this level. Taste & texture are paramount for me. If that comes together with a beautiful visual layout, on beautiful tableware and just as important: pleasant, personal hospitality with detailed explanations of dishes and wines... then you have hit the mark in my opinion! People know what they are doing here and details seem just as important as "the bigger picture". My table companion's allergies were also neatly and creatively taken into account within the 5-course menu. As critical guests, we were pleasantly surprised. Compliments!

Recentelijk gegeten bij Nacional. Een mooi restaurant met prachtig uitzicht. Lang geleden dat ik binnen Nijmegen, op dit niveau, zo goed gegeten heb. Smaak & textuur staan voor mij voorop. Als dat samen komt met een mooie visuele opmaak, op mooi servies en minstens zo belangrijk: fijn, persoonlijk gastheerschap met gedetaileerde uitleg van gerechten en wijnen.. dan heb je wat mij betreft een schot in de roos! Men weet hier wat ze doen en details lijken net zo belangrijk als "the bigger picture". Tevens is er keurig en creatief rekening gehouden met het allergie van mijn tafelgenoot, binnen het 5 gangen menu. Als toch wel kritische gasten waren wij aangenaam verrast. Complimenten!

We het ontzettend lekker gegeten en genoten van 2,5 uur verwennerij. We hadden vooraf aangegeven wel vis te lusten, maar geen vlees. Het resulteerde in een heerlijk 5 gangenmenu met een mooie balans tussen vegetarisch en vis. Het wijn arrangement was perfect afgestemd op de gerechten, dus wat ons betreft een absolute aanrader!

Wat een geweldige ervaring uitgenodigd door mijn 2 zoons om een keer samen ergens te gaan dineren.Het werd Nacional een 6 gangendiner met bijpassende wijnen.Een grote verrassing zo exclusief gepresenteerd en ontzettend lekker!Een absolute aanrader zelfs voor erg verwende gasten.

Particularly delicious food; the flavours of the dishes complemented each other well, it looked beautiful, the service was very good, and the spot at the window was also very beautiful with the setting sun along the crossing. All in all definitely recommended!

NACIONAL Bijzonder lekker gegeten in het mooie Nacional. Op speciaal verzoek werd er voor ons een salade kreeft gemaakt waar wij zeker voor terug komen. Er werd rekening gehouden met onze uitgebreide en specifieke dieetwensen. De service was buitengewoon vriendelijk en correct. De kale eigenaar heeft de zaken goed op orde. Het was onze eerste ervaring, maar zeker niet de laatste. Dit restaurant staat in onze top 3 van favoriete restaurants.

Wij zijn hier eerder geweest om te lunchen en dat was al super. Nu hadden wij een diner en dat was eveneens super. Alles klopt. Van het vriendelijk ontvangst, het heerlijke eten, de mooie opmaak ervan, de sfeer en de praatjes/uitleg. Ook was het wijnarrangement erg lekker en bijpassend. Wij komen zeker terug want NACIONAL staat in onze favoriete Nijmeegse restaurants top 3.

We had a lovely time on the sunny terrace of the Nacional. The food was very tasty. The service was very friendly and actually very attentive. We would just like to have been informed in advance about when the kitchen closes. Visiting with a dog was permitted, but a bowl of water would have been very thoughtful. Since we had something with us, it wasn't a problem for us. For the level that the Nacional wants to have, I felt “something” was missing in terms of service.

Wir gehen gerne gut essen. Hier haben wir einen wunderschönen Abend verbringen dürfen. Das 6 Gänge Menü war fantastisch. Optisch und geschmacklich war jeder Gang ein Highlight. Hier wird auf Sterneniveau gekocht. Die Weine harmonierten perfekt. Das Preis- und Leistungsverhältnis war Klasse. Der Service war nett, aufmerksam und zuvorkommend. Restaurant Ambiente schön. Wir können das Nacional sehr empfehlen und werden bestimmt es erneut aufsuchen.

We hebben hier prima gegeten; het zag er mooi uit. Lekkere wijntjes. Mijn man zat op de bank maar dat is geen aanrader. Je kan hier niet de hele avond op zitten.

Locatie, bediening maar vooral de heerlijke en als een kunstwerkje uitziende gerechten zijn een beleving in smaak en voor het oog.

A really lovely meal. I was in Nijmegen on a really quiet Friday lunchtime in January with my son (who is gluten intolerant and vegetarian) and the chef created a unique and delicious meal for us. The food was superb, the price very reasonable for food of that quality and the views over the Waal river were lovely. Highly recommended.

Vanavond heb ik met mijn vrouw bij National mogen eten en dat was een bijzonder aangename avond voor ons. Mijn lieve tafelgenote en ik zelf waren absoluut zeer tevreden over alles, dwz sfeer in het restaurant (met prima stoelen) als ook de top kwaliteit van het eten en de super vriendelijke en kundige bediening. Een absolute aanrader om te dineren in Nijmegen.

Since we are fairly new to the area, a Social Deal for this restaurant was a great opportunity to visit it and we really enjoyed it! The decoration of the restaurant is modern with lots of white but has a good atmosphere. The service was excellent: attentive and very good information about what was on the plate and the excellent wines (we had the wine arrangement). And yes, what came on the plate was excellent - beautifully served, beautiful flavors, excellent preparation. Nacional is one of those restaurants in the Netherlands that is close to receiving a star and may receive one in the future. We will definitely visit Nacional more often - highly recommended.

Every dish we were served was a work of art in itself - perfectly presented and full of flavour. The chef clearly knows how to balance ingredients, and the food offers a surprising combination of classic and modern. The service was exactly as it should be: attentive without being pushy, and our wishes were taken into account. We felt really welcoming and appreciated. The price-quality ratio is excellent; you notice that every detail has been thought through. We can absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a culinary experience. Apparently our review had not been posted, so another attempt: For our 25th wedding anniversary we wanted to eat out at a special place. Based on the good reviews, we ended up at Nacional on the Waalkade. The team met all expectations: all courses were beautiful works of art, with beautiful, sometimes unusual, ingredients and coordinated flavors. My husband was well advised on the choice of wine and for me as Bob there was a nice non-alcoholic version of bubbles. We really enjoyed the evening and will definitely come back!

Ontzettend heerlijk en verrassend gegeten. Gerechten die je niet snel op de Nederlandse kaart zult zien maar die ontzettend goed op smaak zijn. Daarnaast een goed bijpassend wijn arrangement gehad en een hele fijne ambiance.

Delicious food with Social Deal! Five courses with amuse for a friendly price. What an experience. The restaurant offers a beautiful view over the Waal and the Waalkade because it is slightly higher. The inside is light and white, which gives a wonderful beach vibe. The staff is knowledgeable, but somewhat knowledgeable. The food is truly delicious, we enjoyed every bite. I can recommend Nacional to everyone!

Had a delicious meal at Nacional. We ordered the 5 course menu and everything was super tasty. Special and unique combinations that worked very well. Can't fault the food! The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice, a very nice decor. Service was good, very friendly help. You did notice that they seemed to be a bit too busy with the number of staff. We regularly had to wait a while until plates were cleared and new drinks were offered. No problem for us; All in all we had a fantastic evening, we will definitely be back!

During our holiday we reserved a table at Nacional on August 12 via Social Deal. Upon arrival we were kindly received and guided to our table on the terrace. When making the reservation, we stated that one of us must eat lactose-free. This was taken into account perfectly without detracting from the dishes. On the contrary. Every dish from the 5-course menu was prepared and served with care. The host and lady did everything they could to make the guests happy. There was sometimes a bit of time between a few dishes, but we certainly enjoyed it. A place to remember and where we will definitely visit again when we are in Nijmegen again.

Tijdens onze vakantie hadden we op 12 augustus een tafeltje gereserveerd bij Nacional via Social Deal. Bij aankomst werden we vriendelijk ontvangen en begeleid naar onze tafel op het terras. Bij de reservering hadden we doorgegeven dat 1 van ons lactosevrij moet eten. Daar werd perfect rekening mee gehouden zonder dat dat afbreuk deed aan de gerechtjes. In tegendeel. Elk gerecht van het 5 gangen menu was met zorg bereid en opgediend. De gastheer en dame deden er alles aan om het de gasten naar de zin te maken. Er zat soms wat ruim de tijd tussen een paar gerechten, maar we hebben verder zeker genoten. Een plek om te onthouden en waar we vast nog eens zullen komen als we weer in Nijmegen zijn.

There was a nice Social Deal that brought us here. We had a delicious meal and my 13-year-old son has gained an experience when it comes to gastronomy: beautiful flavors and refined combinations. We don't get those at McDonalds anymore. ;-) The dinner started immediately with a highlight of salmon and continued wonderfully with a sereh-coconut soup, a scallop dish, a beautiful piece of sirloin steak and a special dessert with freeze-dried yogurt and olive. The portioning may be modest; an extra sandwich for example with the soup, or some extra side dish? Not enough to give one star less, but I still want to say it. Follows the motto what-you-see-is-what-you-taste: ingredients are clearly distinguishable on the plate and in the mouth. Thank you for the nice evening.

Wandering through the City on a summer day we arrived at Nacional and were able to sit on the large lounge sofa. The furnishings are designed by cosmopolitan designer Eric de Bruijn (also from Manna - Blue), as is the art. Kudos for the peace, color and use of space. In fact, the center aisle of the restaurant is a catwalk on which the radiant staff strolls, serving you with flair and attention. The culinary experience is exceptional in terms of price and quality. Please note that they had just opened, the chef is still being trained, but nevertheless this is a restaurant to love, enjoy and, above all, bring your friends. We become your nationalists!!! What a delicious meal we had! The pasta with truffle and the pasta with ragout were very tasty. The short rib was very tender. The desserts were also fantastic. In the restaurant they take dietary requirements or allergies into account very carefully. They had a special lactose-free dessert and it was very tasty. The service & owner are very hospitable and friendly. Recommended!

Het eten was heerlijk en de service perfect. Er werd goed meegedacht met dieetwensen en allergieën, het menu van de chef werd erop aangepast. Eén persoon had een notenallergie en bij veel restaurants gaan ze daar slordig mee om, waardoor hij altijd op moet letten of het wel goed gaat. Maar omdat hier de service zo netjes en persoonlijk was heeft hij zich daar deze avond geen zorgen om gemaakt.

Heerlijk gegeten op de maandagavond. Hele leuke eigenaar met een enorme passie voor het vak.

Wat zijn wij blij dat er vanavond nog een tafel voor twee vrij was! We hebben een heel gezellige, ongedwongen avond gehad met een voortreffelijk wijn spijs menu. We raden iedereen aan om deze, beetje verstopte parel aan de Maas, snel een keertje te bezoeken.

They were very kind, thoughtful, and fast. The food was interesting and of good quality, great atmosphere and a very nice view. The only remark that I have is that the wine pairings were not adapted for the alternate vegetarian menu. But overall the experience was delightful. Definitely worth it.

De combinatie van een heerlijk menu du chef, bijpassende wijn, sfeervolle plek ( en vooral nu terras!) en gastvrije en kundige bediening maken het de moeite waard om hier te gaan eten. De passie van het koken is voelbaar in de verrassende gerechten. Hier klopt het gewoon. Ga het ook ontdekken op deze top locatie aan het eind van de Waalkade!

Ik kwam voor de steak tartaar, zag er prachtig uit maar er waren veeeel te veel smaken. De tartaar was verloren en iets anders had de bovenhand. Het hele kwartelei was bijv hard gekookt ipv een eidooier die rauw moet zijn. Dit gerecht verdient niet de naam, geef het een andere naam dan is het prima. Erg jammer, ik kom hier niet meer terug. Het personeel was super vriendelijk en behulpzaam.

Loved the view, ambience! Lunch menu was a simple fixed choice. Loved the salmon starter, the truffle pasta had great sauce (but I would have liked more of the sauce and mushrooms) and dessert was beautiful with profiterole like offering with Yuzu ans strawberry flavor cream and sorbet. Highly recommend to go their to enjoy the view :)

Eten zeer smakelijk, de sfeer een beetje kil/gespannen. Prijs aan de hoge kant maar dat is te begrijpen met de huur aan de Waalkade en de gestegen personeelskosten. Porties zijn gul daarmee is de wat hogere prijs niet storend.

I visited this restaurant a month ago and I have been meaning to write this review ever since. This shows what a lasting impression this place left in me. The food is creative and delicious, the wine is excellent and the service is perfect. To put a cherry on the top the atmosphere and view of the Waal are fantastic.

Op zaterdag 12 februari hebben wij de 8 km "Walk of the Town" wandeling door Nijmegen centrum gemaakt. Halverwege kwamen wij langs Nacional, waar ik eerder al wilde gaan dineren. We stapten in onze wandelkleding naar binnen en werden zeer gastvrij ontvangen in een sfeervol, mooi en licht restaurant met een schitterend uitzicht over de Waal. We hebben zeer genoten van de lekkere koffie, de 3 gangen lunch en de heerlijke witte Portugese wijn. Daarbij zijn de gerechten ware kunststukje waar de passie vanaf straalt. En dat tijdens het genieten van het uitzicht over de Waal...wat wil je nog meer. Wij komen zeer zeker terug.

Heerlijk gegeten bij Nacional; een 5-gangen diner met goed uitgezochte smaken. Persoonlijk hoogtepunt was de pastrami. Sfeer in het restaurant was goed en de bediening prima op orde, waarbij bijvoorbeeld goed op de inhoud van onze glazen gelet werd.
