Food was ok but pricey for Chinese food. You can have unlimited rib w/ fries & salad the same price (Satellite sport bar) for example. The worst thing is they targeted tourists for tipping. You don't pay tips in general in Europe!!!

Paying the same price and ordering the same food, yet the portion sizes were different... Is this discrimination against Asians? The portions are significantly smaller than those for Europeans. I wouldn't recommend coming to this restaurant again; it gives off a racially discriminatory vibe.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. I first came here specifically for the roasted pork belly, and it didn’t disappoint-I haven’t had better anywhere else. Meat is clearly their specialty, and they also serve excellent duck and assorted meat dishes if you want to sample a variety. Portions are generous, drinks are always refreshing, service is quick even when it’s busy, and prices are fair. I keep coming back because they consistently deliver exceptional and delicious food ❤️

I love Asian cuisine. Unfortunately, not here. Chopped duck, bones and all, in a very bland broth. The soup was full of noodles and, apart from some cabbage, no other vegetables. I've had much better. The other plates around us looked fine. I wouldn't recommend the soup. There was no ambiance. Overcrowded, tables crammed together, and incredibly loud.

It was recommended for Peking duck. We had it with pancakes, which was okay, but this restaurant certainly isn't among the top restaurants with good Peking duck listed by Google. A friend of ours had a duck dish, which was all bone and fat. Never again.

I've been coming here for years to buy meat, and the last few times I've been disappointed. But today... was the last straw that I'll never come here for takeout again. The meat is absolutely terrible—all fat, no meat. It's not what it used to be. I'm very disappointed with the quality for the price.

To be honest, I was disappointed. I think Nam Kee is banking on its reputation. The food was nothing special, lacking in flavor, and rather dull. A serving of noodles with a bit of pork that lacked flavor. I expected more from an "authentic" Chinese restaurant.

Food was ok. Roast meat plate was good. Duck was meaty and tender, but skin wasn’t crispy. Roast pork was crispy and tasty. Bbq pork was sweet and tasty. Oysters were good but they advertised two large oysters and we got 4 medium ones instead. I guess that’s still better than getting 2 medium ones Wonton noodle soup - the noodles were great. Soup was standard. Wontons needed work. There was no shrimp flavor and it just tasted like ground pork meatloaf. No free tap water here.

We had another great meal at Nam Kee on Zeedijk. The food is always excellent, and everything is served very quickly. Your order is ready in no time, and you can start enjoying it. The restaurant hasn't changed much for years, except for the white tiles on the walls that were replaced with acoustic panels, but otherwise it's still just as bare and lacking in ambiance. But the food is truly excellent, and that's what it's all about! 👌

Unfortunately, we were overall disappointed with our visit. We waited about 15 minutes in front of the door, but that wasn't a problem at all. Unfortunately, our appetizer was forgotten, but the main course arrived very quickly. The portions were rather small, and the goulash consisted of relatively large, very tough pieces. It also contained bits of cartilage and fat. The sweet and sour duck was of rather average snack quality. We can't recommend a visit and won't be returning.

From the moment we arrived, the service was terrible. We were shown to a table by two different people, which was fine. But then we had to wait an incredibly long time before someone finally came to take our order. Meanwhile, a gentleman arrived after us, who was helped first and received his food faster than we did. When we finally got around to ordering, it turned out what I wanted wasn't available. No problem, I chose the Peking Duck. But it was a huge disappointment: the plate was full of bones and tendons, there was barely any edible meat on it, and the little meat that was there tasted awful. The bami (noodles) I got with it were also absolutely awful. When ordering, I specifically asked what came with the main course, and the waitress said I could choose between white rice or bami (noodles). I chose bami. Afterwards, after we'd left more than half the food because it was simply inedible, it turned out we had to pay an additional 4 euros per plate of bami. So, an extra 8 euros in total for something the waitress said was included in the main course. In short: poor service, poor food, and unexpected costs. Absolutely not recommended. Better go to the neighboring restaurant: Xi’an Delicious Food.

Queues can be misleading. So can reviews. And yes, so can the fact that it’s run by actual Chinese people. You’d think you’re about to experience the culinary equivalent of a first-class ticket to Hong Kong. Spoiler: not quite. When I visited, the place was packed. There was a queue snaking outside, which usually signals “worth the wait.” Inside? Let’s just say “cozy” is putting it politely. Tables are an elbow’s length apart — the kind of setup where you could accidentally season your neighbour’s soup just by sneezing. The entire atmosphere practically screams: eat fast, pay fast, get out. I ordered the Yeung Chow Fried Rice, expecting a comforting classic. What I got was a plate of dry, uninspired grains that tasted like they’d been emotionally neglected. The BBQ pork carried a strange smell, which is never the sort of complexity you want in your protein. As someone who’s spent three decades abroad cooking this dish to perfection for myself and friends (and I’m no pro chef), this was a deep disappointment — especially from a place claiming authentic Chinese fare. Thankfully, redemption came in the form of the Sui Kao Soup (Prawn Dumplings). Generous filling, fresh springy prawns, and a savoury broth that whispered, “I’ve got you.” If the fried rice was the villain of this story, the Sui Kao was the unexpected hero. Portions here are massive. For those of us used to Asian serving sizes, this is borderline shocking — my order could easily feed three people. Service is exactly what you’d expect from an old-school Chinese restaurant: no frills, no chit-chat, just efficiency. They serve, you eat, you pay, you leave. Respectable in its own way. Prices? Slightly steep, but given the location’s tourist density, it’s almost a tax you pay for existing in this postcode. Would I come back? Maybe — but only for the Sui Kao. And perhaps to people-watch the queue of unsuspecting optimists outside.

At first glance, it seems like a standard Chinese restaurant in Amsterdam, but the price-quality ratio is far from ideal. It's absolutely absurd that (hoisin) sauce isn't included with the roasted meat dishes and is charged extra for each small dish. The duck was very lean, and the quality of the meat was incredibly inconsistent. It was either tough, lean meat or large chunks of fat. There was no balance whatsoever. The staff's attitude didn't exactly improve matters either. They were rude, curt, and disinterested. Chinatown isn't cheap, but there are plenty of better options on the same street.

We ordered 4 noodles ( all with big chucks of chicken meat) and 1 rice with 3 combinations of meat( Duck, char siew and chicken). The noodles were fried with a lot of oil and very greasy, not to our style of cooking. As the rice, the duck meat, we got a fatty side of the duck and not much lean meat, the char siew and chicken was okay TIP don't order any of noodles. Maybe the main dishes are better!

Located on Shande Street in Chinatown, this is a famous Chinese/Cantonese restaurant. I arrived on a weekday evening and saw that the restaurant was almost full. I almost didn't get a seat without a reservation. I noticed that Nan Kee's dishes are mainly set dishes, which are more suitable for two or more people to share. So I had to order a bowl of double noodle soup to try it. Let me first talk about the disadvantages: the soup is too light. The soup of this bowl of noodle soup is neither strong nor fragrant. I was a little surprised and disappointed when I took a bite. The noodles themselves were also unremarkable, but the meat was a completely different story. I heard that Nam Kee is famous for its barbecued pork and other meats. This time, I felt that it was indeed the case. It is called "double combination" but when it is served, I found that it is actually a three-combination (including barbecued pork, roast pork, and roast chicken). The texture of each meat is really good, soft, tender, and chewy. The taste is also full. What's interesting is that the flavor of these meats is not diluted at all by soaking in the soup. I am really curious why it is so. In any case, this meat alone is enough to more than offset the blandness of the soup and the blandness of the noodles. I feel satisfied and satisfied after eating it. Given the prosperity of Nam Kee's business, most of the other dishes that I didn't have the opportunity to try this time must have their own merits. It is recommended as a good choice when you want to taste Chinese cuisine in Amsterdam.

You can really taste the care put into the preparation, with bold and authentic flavors. It was so good that I couldn’t resist — I even brought some back to France to enjoy it again! This restaurant fully deserves my 5 stars. It is very small, a hidden gem, but absolutely worth the visit. If you love roast duck, this is an address not to be missed. -- 🇫🇷 Unmissable quality! I have been coming to this place for at least 30 years, always nice and tasty food, but today it was very disappointing, time has also stood still (interior) Well, not my restaurant anymore, unfortunately.

During my visit to Amsterdam, I visited this country twice. Both times, I was more than satisfied. The food was served quickly, was very fresh, and tasted great. The service staff was friendly. Prices are typical Amsterdam prices. 😅

The truth is, it doesn't live up to the reviews. The ducks look super appetizing from the outside, but once we got inside, it was truly disappointing. The duck pieces were all bone, the skin was very rubbery and not crispy. Additionally, my partner's and my dishes were brought out 15 minutes apart, even though we both ordered the same thing.

Went with a friend and we ordered the peking duck. The waitress told us that the dish was small enough for one person making us order two. Mine arrived first and was the hardest duck I ever ate, no crispy skin and meat colour was also weird. They brought the other dish almost 15 minutes later and was a considerable amount for sharing. They charge 3.50 for spring water that comes in a bottle they clearly refil from the tap to overcharge you. Wouldn’t go back there or recommend.

In terms of value this is not the place to be. We got two dishes plus the mandatory flat water, and it cost 50ish euros. A couple sitting next to us tried to not order the water, but they were strong armed into doing so. Flavor wise if you're expecting really good Chinese food based on all the reviews, you should temper your expectations. With real chinese food you'll immediately see the difference.

Really good comfort food and not only! We ordered baked oysters - was for sure a unique experience, never seen or eaten them like this before. Definitely recommend - duck in plum sauce and rice with pork belly! Service is fast and for some people might seem rude or direct but I don’t think they mean anything bad, that’s just the way they operate :)

Delicious food and drinks. Drink ice tea with lychee was deliciously refreshing. Then the soup with Peking duck wonton and Peking duck in pancakes. Everything delicious in taste and neat service. It is nice to take a look in the small kitchen and you hear immediately when the meat is cut. Located opposite a beautiful temple.

After finishing a tour of the city, we decided to follow our guide's recommendation and head to Amsterdam's Chinatown, a very popular corner if you fancy good Asian food. We ended up at Nam Kee, a fairly spacious restaurant that, luckily for us, had tables available without a wait. The menu is extensive, with classic Chinese cuisine proposals. When we took a look at the prices, they initially seemed a bit high (as usually happens in this city), but as soon as the dishes arrived we understood why: the portions are huge. So much so that we couldn't finish them. A detail that seemed practical to us was that, in addition to the chopsticks, they leave you a bowl with traditional cutlery (fork, knife, spoon), something that makes the experience much easier for those who are not used to eating with chopsticks. Although the service was correct, we were surprised that when we ordered water they brought us a bottle with a straw directly inside, instead of serving it in a glass. A gesture that gave us the feeling that customer service could be a little more careful, although without becoming a problem. As for the food, the duck was the star dish: tasty, juicy and with just the right crispy skin. Possibly one of the best we have tried. Nam Kee is an interesting option if you are in the area and fancy hearty Chinese food, of good quality and without frills. Ideal to replenish energy after a walk around the city.

Food was great despite being busy. I had a cold beer, steamed oysters, and peking duck and pork belly over rice. Service was a little but disorganized but the food came out surprisingly quick considering how many people were inside. Cozy little restaurant that hides you away from the bustling streets.

Nieuwe locatie Nam Kee Gelderlandplein.

If you’re in Europe and craving for good Chinese food, this is your stop. Definitely tryout their wantan soup and meat dished. While the crunchy fried noodles might offer a different texture than I’m accustomed to, its sauce was quite good.

Dinner table 4, without reservation: Very varied menu, the dishes we ordered were very tasty. Also, cold tea is very popular. Very fast and friendly service Nice atmosphere. Furthermore, when the place was full, there was no ambient noise. Good value for money (expensive drinks, but average for Amsterdam)

Hidden gem I didn't know there was a Cantonese restaurant in IJburg. I saw it on TikTok and wanted to try it. The good dim sum places are mostly in the center of Amsterdam, difficult to reach, and parking is expensive. But this one is very easy to get to, and there's an affordable parking garage underneath the restaurant. From the outside, it doesn't look like a Chinese restaurant. Very friendly staff. Nice and extensive menu. If you're in the mood for delicious Cantonese food, you should definitely try this place. Dim sum dishes are delicious. A must-order is the sieuw mai.

The food is delicious. Everything is delicious. And it arrives quickly and hot. The service is good. Friendly people. It's a shame there's paid parking and it's often full. But the restaurant can't do anything about that. Really delicious dim sum and dishes. My children organized a surprise birthday party in the summer and received a lot of help from the staff. Really great!!

Really gorgeous restaurant in the heart of Plantage. I came here with my dad while on a short visit to Amsterdam and this was one of the best places we tried. The decor is gorgeous and the atmosphere is very friendly. All the service staff were incredibly attentive and friendly and they took extra steps to accommodate our dietary requirements and to modify dishes to make them vegetarian. Our food was also delivered extremely quickly; I don't think we waited more than ten minutes for a full five dishes! The food was absolutely delicious and the prices were extremely fair for the portion sizes. The broccoli with Chinese mushrooms, for example, came with a full additional dish of rice or noodles already encompassed within the price!

This restaurant has been around for so long that you're tempted to dismiss it as old-fashioned. But… the food is amazing. Huge selection, fantastic flavors, generous portions, and incredibly friendly service. We used to go there with my parents when we were kids, and we still love going there. I've eaten at many restaurants, but this one still ranks among the best in terms of food quality.
