Upon arrival for our 7:00 PM reservation, we had to wait half an hour at the door. This was very unpleasant, because when I make a reservation, I want to be able to go in immediately; otherwise, there's no point. Once inside, the service was slow; we waited 45 minutes for a sushi roll, which is absolutely absurd. The food tasted okay, but for these prices and the concept, the quality should be much higher. This completely disproportionately affects the price-quality ratio.

In all honesty, I must admit I hesitated. Not the kind of slight doubt you shrug off, but genuine skepticism. The kind of skepticism that arises when you read too many bad reviews and convince yourself that collective disappointment is rarely entirely wrong. Then there was the location. Crowded. Inconvenient. Parking was a side issue that no one took seriously. Lots of people in a small space. The Netherlands is full, they say. Nonsense. The Netherlands isn't full. The Netherlands is lazy. Everyone wants to be in the same place at the same time, to live, to eat, to be seen. And right there, in that tension, lies Ness. Yet I went. Because sometimes you have to challenge your own assumptions to avoid slowly becoming a caricature of yourself. And let me be clear right away: I fundamentally disagree with the negative reviews. Not a little. Not nuanced. Simply disagree. As if we hadn't been to the same restaurant, hadn't seen the same sign, hadn't experienced the same evening. Yes, Ness is more expensive than Plaza Primo. That's true. But that's also about where the comparison ends. Quality simply doesn't have much to do with discounts, and even less so with convenience. For two people, starter, main course, and dessert, including drinks, we stayed under 130 euros. Less than 65 euros per person. Pricey, certainly. But excessively expensive? Absolutely not. In fact, considering what's served, it's justifiable to reasonable. The sushi rolls are large. Not ostentatiously large, but reassuringly large. Fresh, tightly rolled, with a texture that reveals that they don't think in volume, but in attention. This isn't Albert Heijn sushi, that goes without saying, but neither is Sumo. And let's be honest: Sumo has fallen far below par. Ness is well above that. Not world-class, but comfortably above the Amsterdam mediocrity that so many wallow in. The ambiance is pleasant. That word is overused, but here it's accurate. On a Saturday night, it's lively without becoming hysterical. Music that's present but not aggressive. Before midnight, anyway. A place where you can talk without shouting and eat without feeling like you're part of a production process. The audience then. Yes. Lots of makeup. Little intellect. But let's not pretend this is a literary café where people come to quote Kant or dissect the state of the world. You come here to eat. To be seen, perhaps. To enjoy yourself. And in that, Ness succeeds admirably. What perhaps convinced me most was the staff. Friendly, attentive, not rehearsed. And then there's the owner, who walks from table to table, thanks people for coming, answers questions, is open to criticism without becoming defensive. You rarely see that. You feel it. That's what counts. I don't see an overrated restaurant here. I see a place where the food is cooked with care, where people work who know why they're there, and where you pay for quality instead of a name. And yes, that costs money. That's how it should be. This isn't a place for everyone. Thankfully. But for those who come to eat well, sit comfortably, and aren't afraid to pay for it, Ness is exactly what it claims to be. And that's what you'll have to make do with.

What a fantastic experience at Restaurant Ness in Amsterdam! The food was truly outstanding: full of flavor, perfectly prepared, and beautifully presented. The restaurant's atmosphere is warm, cozy, and stylish, making you feel immediately welcome. I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant. Unfortunately, this was my second visit, and it was even worse than the first. The first time, I waited 45 minutes for my food, which I can understand given the high volume of customers. However, my second experience was a disaster. There was absolutely no coordination among the servers, and the cook was working alone. One of my friends waited two hours, and my meal took an hour. There were three of us, and my cousin never received her food after two hours. The manager offers no support whatsoever to his staff when several customers complain. The hostess who handles reservations and puts coats in the cloakroom almost lost my belongings. We had to be re-seated a second time because the waitress had given us the wrong table, which is unprofessional. The servers repeatedly mixed up our order with several other tables. Their service and the way they spoke to customers were completely unacceptable and lacked professionalism. There are many things that need improvement in terms of communication and coordination, including the manager who hid behind the bar throughout each customer's service. He didn't even once support his employees, who were being reprimanded by numerous customers unhappy with the service and the wait time. To top it all off, we still had to pay for our meals after waiting almost two hours, and one meal was never served. The service was beyond mediocre. There are so many things that need improvement. I would never recommend this restaurant. Aside from the aesthetics, everything is catastrophic. Avoid this restaurant at all costs!

Literally the worst restaurant experience of my life - waited at the door for 1 hour after my reservation ON NEW YEARS EVE, they overbooked the restaurant which is absolutely ridiculous. Rude staff, terrible food, when we were seated FOR NEW YEARS WHICH WE BOOKED A MONTH IN ADVANCE, we were told the sushi had finished. the whole experience was absolutely disgusting. Dont know how they could ruin peoples new year like that. The whole place needs to urgently shut down.

The food tasted really good, but the portions were always small for a high price. The service was terrible. We had a reservation and still had to wait an hour to get a table after asking five times, which I find ridiculous! Furthermore, we only received our food after another hour and asking again. We came all the way from Germany and find it very disappointing that we were treated this way. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone unless they enjoy waiting for hours.

⭐ 1 star – Absolutely not recommended A very bad experience with this restaurant. My daughter's coat was confiscated by the staff and stored in a locked room. Later, it turned out that the card holder/wallet and its contents had disappeared from the coat. Instead of taking responsibility, no solution was offered. The communication was downright poor: rude on the phone and literally told us to "sort it out" ourselves. The manager's response was also completely rude and unprofessional. No understanding, no cooperation, no respect for the guests. This definitely does not make you feel safe. Keep a close eye on your belongings if you go here, because apparently, even a locked coatroom is no guarantee. We absolutely do not recommend this restaurant.

⭐☆☆☆☆ – Very bad experience, absolutely not recommended Last night my daughter dined here with her sister. Upon entering, she was told she wasn't allowed to bring her coat into the dining room and that she had to leave it with the staff. We did so without any problem. After dinner, she got her coat back, but without her wallet. Inside was cash, bank cards, ID, and other personal items. This is a very serious situation. When she asked to view the camera footage, she was refused with the excuse of "privacy." The manager completely ignored the situation, told her to "calm down," and even suggested it was "her own fault" because this happened in Amsterdam. No responsibility was taken, no solution offered, and no empathy shown. I find it unacceptable that a restaurant requires coats to be taken but then refuses to be responsible for their contents. The way my daughter was treated, especially in the presence of her sister, was disrespectful and scandalous. My advice: absolutely do not leave your coat here and be very careful with your personal belongings. This is reason enough for us to never return and not recommend this restaurant.

Our experience at this restaurant was unfortunately very disappointing. After being inside for a few minutes, we decided to leave because the atmosphere felt unpleasant. The food is quite expensive, but the quality isn't commensurate. There was no wine list, and the waitress didn't know anything about wine either. Red wine was completely absent, even though it was listed as an option. We also had to wait a very long time and couldn't even get a carafe of tap water. The music was so loud you could barely hear each other or the waitress. It was a one-time, never-to-be-repeated experience.

The host was terrible, very, very, very smart, and didn't take my feedback seriously. The prices are ridiculous, €158 for two people, and it really wasn't worth it. I've had better sushi takeout than here. Seriously, what kind of place is this? When I arrived, I was waiting for my girlfriend, and I wasn't allowed to sit down until she had arrived, so there I was, standing by the cold front door for 15 minutes. Horrible.

One star because zero is out of the question; I've never seen anything like it in my life. The manager is awful, and we laughed in her face when we told her the service wasn't great. What's more, I spotted a four-legged creature in my plate of truffle pasta, not to mention the wait, which was longer than a movie. The food was delicious. The only downside was that I asked if I could take the leftover sushi home. I was looked at like an alien. I booked a birthday dinner here. I asked all info in advance and attended with a party of 12. The dinner was nice with good food and cocktails. Some servers and staff were very professional and friendly like Donatello was very nice who seated us and another server who brought extra sashimi because it seemed like they didn't have 2 of the 4 options we ordered. However some things were a bit strange. I requested a birthday dessert via email as the option they offered and also my friend asked a waiter as a reminder. But after waiting for some time nothing came and then a waiter told us that they need the table for other guests. We told him we are waiting for the birthday dessert but he said it was too late and that he was sorry about that but we need to leave. I didn't really understand this kind of service. It was really disappointing that my friends could not sing me happy birthday or why we needed to be suddenly kicked out. I even explained to him that I discussed it by email but he didn't seem to care. It was also strange not to get the bill at the table so we had to wait in a line to pay in the busy entrance of people waiting to get seated. The lady who we paid asked us how our dinner was and I told her what happened. She was very sorry about our experience and offered for us to go back to the table but the mood was kind of ruined. Then she arranged for us to have some free shots which was very kind of her but you know the whole point was the birthday celebration so it is what it is. They also collected our jackets without a ticket in the beggining so after we paid we also stood there like 20 min waiting to get the jackets back. Anyway some elements were super nice but I didn't leave with a good feeling for my birthday celebration. So to be honest I don't think I'd celebrate it again there.

Lovely venue, but left feeling unsatisfied with the experience. We visited on our final night in Amsterdam and felt the service was poor - seemed to be understaffed. In an hour of being there we had only been given one item out of 5, with starters coming out 30 minutes in between each other. Food was nice, steak came cold but still tasted good - the sushi was lovely! Overall wouldn't visit again, mostly due to the high price with a lack of attentive service. Think there is better restaurants in Amsterdam worth the price we paid.

What a wonderful experience! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. These men, the owners, had us install a beautiful canopy on their own house. It felt good, so we didn't ask for a down payment. We installed the canopy in March 2025. The total cost was €15,000. We received €7,000 with great difficulty. To this day (October 15, 2025), we haven't received anything. No response when we message or call them. Initially, they even made false promises that we could also do a nice project at the restaurant. These are not decent people; they don't pay. Only false promises. We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. It all started with the trouble of finding a parking spot...we ended up parking in the parking garage across the street. Then we arrived, and no one greeted us at the entrance...the staff saw us and made eye contact, but completely ignored us. After fifteen minutes, someone finally showed up and told us we had to wait until a spot became available (we had reserved a spot for two people). Meanwhile, we saw that there were at least two empty tables, but we weren't called to sit down. Only after half an hour of aimlessly standing at the entrance were we called to sit down at a spot for two people, measuring 1 by 1 meter. And now for the worst...we didn't receive any menus...we weren't even asked if we wanted anything to drink. After waiting 40 minutes, a waitress finally came to us (because we raised our hands). It dawned on us that we'd been completely forgotten! It was outrageous. Then we placed our order, and sure enough...you guessed it...we waited 45 minutes for our order. We asked twice where our food was. The employee said she'd check, but then never came back to explain or apologize! They arrived with the wrong orders, which we hadn't ordered. The food arrived in batches, not all at once! The sound was incredibly loud; you could barely hear each other. Absolutely terrible. Worst service ever! For such a chic restaurant, this service is truly not worth the money! Unfortunately, this was the first and last time.

Even if you have a reservation, you'll have to wait in a long line at the door for your turn. So, making a reservation is pointless. After an hour or more, you're seated, and then you have to wait over half an hour for a drink. We've been at the table for three hours now and haven't gotten anything to eat. I’ve been here several times already, with my first visit almost a year ago. Back then, the food was really nice and the service was friendly and knowledgeable. Yes, I found the prices a bit on the higher side, especially compared to the portion sizes, but for the quality I had no problem paying. Recently, I went back again with friends. This time, I felt the sushi wasn’t as good as in my earlier visits, and the staff didn’t seem to know the menu as well as before. Honestly, I liked it more back then !! you can even see from my photos how good everything looked! My goal is definitely not to roast this place. We recently visited this Ness restaurant and had a wonderful experience. The place itself is beautiful and welcoming, with a warm reception from the staff. We had reserved a table for two in advance, and everything was well-prepared upon our arrival. The table was clean and tidy, and the food was absolutely delicious. The best thing for us was the free parking lot 👍🏼 Suggestions for improvement: 1- Consider updating the style of the plates and glasses to better match the restaurant’s ambiance. 2- Increase portion sizes, especially for sushi, as they felt a bit small. 3- Play suitable background music that remains consistent without sudden changes in volume. Overall, it was a lovely dining experience, and with a few adjustments, it could be even better.

Well, I was here a few times when they first opened, and it was really great. The last two times, they've gone downhill so much. I always stand at the entrance for at least 10 minutes or so until I'm taken to my table, then you wait an hour and 20 minutes for your food. Some people want to leave but haven't even had everything. The food doesn't look great anymore, so they don't put any effort into the presentation of the food. And you also have to wait so long every time to pay.

I ate at Ness yesterday, and while the food wasn't bad, the sushi was very good and the spare ribs were okay. But literally 3 spare ribs for €27 is absolutely ridiculous. A total of €90.50 for 3 spare ribs, 9 or 8 spicy sushi rolls, 2 fries, 2 glasses of wine, and 2 soft drinks... It's a real hype as far as I'm concerned, lol. The crowd consisted mainly of smartly dressed people, so there were plenty of people who loved it. To each their own.

I wasn't so impressed with the food this time. The truffle pasta had a strange taste. The waitress had told us that if we didn't finish it, we could take it home in a container. In the end, that wasn't possible because they didn't have any containers, so all the food had to be thrown away, and there was quite a lot of it. We were sitting on the terrace, and they were already clearing away all the chairs and tables next to us, so we felt like we had to eat quickly and leave. She was also really loud. We found the atmosphere antisocial. So, we'll never go back.

First, I want to point out that there are no prices listed with the dishes, so you'll be surprised by the bill. Portions are incredibly small. For example, 4 shrimp for €22. And a bowl of beef that you shove in your hollow tooth costs a whopping €29. The beer, at €5 a glass, is as weak as it gets. I pointed this out, but there was no other option. Plus, you pay 9% VAT once and 21% VAT again. Total cost for one person: €90. And not even a full stomach. I definitely won't be coming back.

What a horrible experience at Ness. This was the first and last time for me and my friends. It went wrong from the start: we had to wait forever before anyone even bothered to bring a menu. In the end we had to ask for it twice, because they seemed to completely ignore us. The food arrived far too late and was also brought at long intervals, so that no one could eat at the same time. And then it didn't even taste good. But the worst came after that: all three of us had severe stomach aches and nausea after dinner. Such an evening should be fun, but this really ruins everything. The service was downright bad and slow, and the atmosphere was also unpleasant: people were constantly looking at each other dirty, which made it not relaxing at all. Never again for Ness for us. Don't fall for the sweet talk of those so-called influencers, because this is really not worth your money. What should have been a fun evening with friends turned into a complete nightmare.

Very disappointing experience The atmosphere was unpleasant and the service downright bad. Something went wrong with the order and when we brought it up it was twisted by the arrogant hostess/waiter (blonde). I was ignored three times by the manager when I wanted to ask something (he heard AND saw me). He kept staring, looked back with an arrogant look and walked away. The hostess (blonde) only made it worse with her unfriendly attitude and shifting the problems to other colleagues or to us. Fortunately, another waiter tried to make it right, which was attentive and sweet of him. Only when we said we would leave a review did he suddenly apologize. That didn't feel sincere, more out of fear of negative publicity. In addition, the food arrived an hour and a half later. We are not the most difficult, if the service had been normal (it didn't even have to be excellent), that wouldn't have been so bad. Our mood was completely ruined, which meant we didn't enjoy the food at all. Never again Ness for me!

Her smile and charm immediately set the tone for the evening. And then the food… wow. Every dish was perfectly balanced, refined and clearly prepared with love. Without a doubt the best food you can find in Amsterdam, from the flavors to the presentation, everything is just right. Unfortunately, we did not have a pleasant evening. The atmosphere in the restaurant was unsociable and messy. The manager looks right through you when you ask something and even ignores you after several times until the bartender intervened and answered the question. Arrogant? The hostess with blond hair and blue eyes was downright antisocial and seemed unable to communicate normally with guests. We tried to contact the manager three times, but he chose to completely ignore us. It was only when we spoke to an employee behind the bar that we finally got an answer to our question. When we indicated that we were considering posting a negative review, we were suddenly offered a discount that we ultimately did not even receive. Not recommended. As a customer, you can expect at least respect and communication, here we got the opposite!!

Bad price quality ratio. There is no wine list, they didn't want to show it because there was almost no choice because they were going to change suppliers.🙂 The food itself wasn't bad but the whole thing. Too loud music, small portions for the money you pay. A bowl of fries is 9 euros for example which really doesn't make sense. The idea is a shared dinner but that was also poorly thought out, e.g. with numbers, put that on the menu otherwise. We luckily had a nice time but for me no more Ness.

Please be more considerate when disposing of glass. It's extremely loud - likely because of the large volume and the way it's being thrown in. This kind of noise, especially late at night, is disruptive. It’s also never allowed after 10 PM anyways. While it’s happening less than it used to, it’s still too frequent during the night. Please keep glass disposal to daytime hours.

When we entered, we were told that we could not sit down, while there were clearly enough tables available. We were ignored for at least 15 minutes by five employees, without anyone speaking to us or letting us know what the situation was. When we finally spoke to someone ourselves, we were looked at strangely. The employee said that she was not taking any more tables at that moment and that we had to wait until it was quieter — while there were still empty tables available. It really felt like you only get good service here if you are an influencer or a celebrity. Too bad, because hospitality should apply to everyone. Hopefully something will be done about this.
