New Draver Restaurant in Oosterparkbuurt

On my way home, I popped in. I ordered the nasi chicken from the daily menu with a Fernandes. The price was €20.50, which I thought was a bit high for what I got. The nasi was pretty standard and not particularly flavorful. The price-quality ratio felt out of balance to me.

My first time having Surinamese food and it was so delicious!! I got the fried rice with roast chicken and it is one of the most tender and flavorful roast chicken I’ve ever had. Overall the dish is very savory with a slightly spice to it. The green beans and pickled onions add a great texture and freshness. My only complaint is I wish there was more than just one piece of plantain because it was so tasty!

Last Saturday, we got two bami satay from this Surinamese restaurant. We were really looking forward to it, but once we got home, we were immediately disappointed. The chicken had a strange taste, as if it was close to its expiration date. The satay sauce was good, but very sparse. The bami itself tasted mostly of broth and lacked any flavor. You'd expect a daily special to include some vegetables, but they were completely missing. Unfortunately, this was a one-time experience for us. There are plenty of better options nearby. We won't be returning.

They have been around for years, but their reach is small, they would be better off going online to increase their reach, I don't understand why they don't start doing that

Best Surinamese restaurant in Amsterdam! Don't be put off by the coffee shop look and interior. If you really want authentic Surinamese food, you've come to the right place. There's no menu; they make fresh Surinamese dishes every day. The owner and staff are super friendly. They talk passionately about their homemade dishes. What if you don't want to eat your standard Roti or Nasi, but rather dishes that aren't typically on the Surinamese menu? You should definitely eat here. They even have homemade Surinamese TikiTiki cognac. Everything, absolutely everything, was excellent! After a night at Carre, we ended up at New Draver. Because we wanted to eat authentic Surinamese food. And we certainly got it. Pom, pastei, chicken, long beans, and rice. With a glass of ginger ale, of course. The food was so delicious. We'll definitely go back when we're in Amsterdam. There were so many delicious dishes on the menu.

One of the best rotis I’ve ever had in my life, matched with some amazing Surinamese beer. If I lived closer they would see me every day!

It's the second time i came here ( not from amsterdam ) and the food is always delicious , service 10/10 , and the people 100/100. Obviously i recommend it ! 😏 ( take the roti )

It's always a real treat when I eat at De Draver. While most people go to a McDonald's or KFC, I'm always happy to go to De Draver. And every time, my moksi alesi, fried fish, antroewa, tajer leaf, or any other dish is a true delight. My favorite dishes there are moksi alesi and fried fish with tajer leaf. The Kesser family are truly great people. They always have a pleasant time chatting with genuine Surinamese people. My Dutch wife now goes without me and enjoys his meal with his son. De New Draver is highly recommended if you want to try or eat authentic old-school Surinamese soul food.

The person at the counter was so sweet and she translated the whole menu to me. It was cozy and quick with decent portions for takeaway. The sit in side of the restaurant also is cute and homey. I got the zuurkool met gerookte kip and it warmed my soul and filled me up on a grey Dutch evening. Thank you!!

Once, but never again! Ordered a takeout moksi, which had almost no meat left over, and was soaking wet with fish sauce. Extremely bad taste and more expensive than any moksi in the area! Beware: when the chef receives an order, he first leaves the kitchen to check who he's preparing it for. After one bite, everything ends up in the trash!

I ordered a nasi chicken with vegetables and received it in a container without a lid and everything in 1 container. You try to be satisfied and only later can you decide if it was worth it... no... rice which is not really what I would call good and fresh and the container has little content because everything is put in an open cardboard container... it cost a lot and unfortunately while I can taste the flavor and spices, when you pick it up you expect a closed container and gezheiden in vegetables and meat and rice... otherwise IQ it is a one-pot meal... honestly disappointed, but a sweet lady who took the order who did not know yet and asked if that is so or if you are supposed to give them separately yes... because you prepare the vegetables separately and the meat too... so for 16.50... in a container I think it is not worth it and especially if the rice is still so thick and white so it has risen too long or I chose the wrong rice because I grew up with nasi and this could be better... and there is no price menu or anything... could be better. Menu rice and the containers the flavor is in it unfortunately I did not like the rice and the contents in division.

A truly authentic Surinamese-Creole cuisine. And it tastes absolutely delicious! The bami could use a few more vegetables. And a tip is to supplement the moksi meti with, for example, sausage, red meat, and roasted pork bacon. Experimenting is allowed. But as mentioned, everything tasted fantastic!

Classic Surinamese restaurant. The food is fresh and well-prepared. They're generous with their servings too 😁 The takeaway section is separate from the bar and restaurant, so you can relax there. It's a nice place. It's a shame the veggie bami doesn't have eggs or tofu, etc.

It was my first time there, so I was curious. I chose the peanut soup with rice. It was very flavorful and quite filling. Chicken, salted meat, and tom-tom. I also took a piece of Viado with me. Everything was excellent, very tasty.

The best Surinamese restaurant I know! The roti is divine, the bami is unbeatable; everything is delicious, really. The service is also friendly. I came especially from Castricum for new Draver.

I recently got a Dawet ice cream, which was absolutely delicious. It cost €3, which I don't think is too expensive for something like that. You get it in a bag, and if you ask them to open it for you so you can eat it right away, they will. I'll definitely be back.

Nasi en bami erg bleek en smaakloos. Gebakken vis en de kip waren lekker! Kom niet meer terug. Ook de drankjes gember en zuurwater waren meer suiker en essence. Jammer hoor, vroeger kom je hier echt lekker eten.

When in Amsterdam you have to have Surinamese food. We had roti here, and it was incredibly flavourful, authentic, and delicious. Beyond the great taste, the service was excellent; the staff were so friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was also perfect, really adding to the whole dining experience. If you're looking for delicious Surinamese food with friendly service and a great vibe, this is definitely the place to go!

I still like the food. Only the bami could use some vegetables. At home I make some vegetables & peanut sauce. Otherwise it is so bare, it has become more expensive. Only the containers are filled well. The Surinamese cookies are really recommended.

Employee made us pay 80€, while we had eaten and drank for 63€. When we asked for the receipt, it first said 63€ but that was crossed out, with 80€ next to it. When we recalculated it was clearly not right, the 80€ just came out of nowhere. In addition, I got sick from the food at night.

Real Surinaamse homemade food restaurant. It's so good that all the Surinaamse people I know come here! It's maybe a bit pricier. But that's because it's made with love and it's so worth it! Here is no place like this! Strongly recommend it here! Staff is also very friendly and the menu is mostly different everyday! Unfortunately no pictures of the delicious food because I always it so fast! But I'll try to update next time I'll get my food there and do remember it.

People are really nice and feels like a down to earth non hipsters/gentrified. Serves mainly as a gathering place for the Surinamese community but everybody is welcome to try their delicious home made food.

I normally get food here once a week and always leave a tip, but tonight I was treated so rudely by the dark, heavy lady with glasses who stood behind the bar that I will never come back here. Ruth is rude, she is super rude and doesn't know how to deal with customers. You will never see me again and I advise everyone to avoid New Trotter until they have new staff who treat their (regular) customers who spend a lot of money there with respect. Very disappointed.

The Surinamese cuisine is very diverse. Hindustani, Javanese, Chinese, you name it. We always go to The New Draver for delicious Creole-Surinamese food. Today we ate ocher soup and sopropo with smoked chicken pieces. Delicious, reasonable price. Brought a few pieces of bojo and fiadoe for coffee at home. Also tasty, but we thought it was pricey.

I passed it a few times before I decided to give it a try. The reviews were mostly positive. Well, after eating fast food and food on the go while traveling, this was exactly what I needed. A home cooked meal!! I looked up the country, as I wasn't familiar. The pictures all looked good. And it was! Small local, mom and pop restaurant serving delicious food. The young lady there helped me with the menu and I ended up getting a delicious stewed BBQ pork dish, white rice, shredded green beans and sweet plantains! I'm incredibly satisfied. 😋

Normally good, but now I had to wait 45 minutes and there was no sauce or egg with the roti, making it very dry and tasteless. Too bad it's changed, won't be back

Expect to pay around 20 EUR p.p. Food was excellent, but overpriced. menu was difficult to read and did not show the price. In hindsight, we should’ve clarified the prices before ordering. At the end we payed more than anticipated. Putting 3 stars because of the prices

For authentic Surinamese food this is the restaurant to go to. Daily menu with original creo food. The rice, chicken, salted meat and Amsoi is great. Cake as a dessert. Can’t go wrong here.

Amazing food! We went back multiple times here while on vacation – it’s that good. The portions are generous, the food quality is great, and it’s good value. They also might have the best ginger beer on the planet – super fresh with a great bite to it. Highly HIGHLY recommend for awesome Surinamese food in Amsterdam!

Ate Surinamese food for the first time here and loved it. For sure coming back, next time I’m in Amsterdam. New Draver seems to be a family business with a very inviting ambience. A lot of the clients seem to come regularly and the owner was very friendly. His daughter took her time to translate the menu for me amd suggest her favorites. I was then served very very delicious food.

Ik ben maar een domme Hollander, maar de nasi kip is hier heel erg goed. Ik weet ook geen andere plek in Amsterdam waar je echt lekker en authentiek Surinaams kunt eten. Alleen, de volgende keer, iets meer zuur erbij graag.

Hou van de ambiance. Is een sfeer die mij gevoel geeft weer even in Suriname te zijn. En das lekker... Eten was overigens heerlijk. Vroeg om Surinaamse groente die niet op 't menu stond, en dat was in huis. Lekker snelle bediening ook. Alles top!

Ik had zo'n honger, had wel 2 porties opgekund... Mijn buurman vond de porties erg klein... Ik zat al uren met een rammelende maag...

I ordered a dish of fried rice with a roasted chicken quarter on top. The rice was really, really good. Loaded with veggies and had a light consistency and a wonderful flavor. It tasted very fresh. The chicken was baked almost to the point of fall of the bone. Flavor was that of baked chicken, though good baked chicken. The side of homemade hot sauce was awesome and I used every last bit of it. The reason for 4 stars is because I ordered a campari and soda with a splash of soda. I was charged for the campari, and the sprite, and the soda, all separately. This is a very small, authentic restaurant so maybe I'm being petty about the drink. Otherwise this place is first rate!

In one word: fantastic! Great flavors, the pork was outstanding with the fried rice and vegetables. The service was excellent - checking to make sure we liked it, bringing hot sauces to try on the meal. Loved the chicken, too. So glad a random person we met recommended New Draver. So glad we came for dinner! Now, it’s time to try the coconut dessert I saw on the bar.

Ik heb na een lange tijd weer is gegeten bij de Draver. Sorry maar het eten was voor surinaams eten vreselijke onder de maat!!!...mijn broertje bestelde gestoofde vis met kouseband. Kouseband was vreselijk oud of verzuurd..het stonk. Waarschijnlijk niet opgelet. Bami die ik had besteld was zo smakeloos en dat voor 18.50 en 15 euro! Sorry ik ga niet meer. Verder wel vriendelijk personeel!

Net 13 euro betaald voor een bak aardappels met kool, een droog ei met een half groene dooier en een oude roti plaat. Gerecht in het algemeen weinig smaak en droog . Dame achter de bali was vriendelijk, maar dat is niet genoeg om terug te komen.

Too expensive for it's quality. Paid 18€ for a kip roti with rice. Too overpriced. I've eaten roti in many places and it was that expensive. Staff was okay.

This is an excellent restaurant down to earth and friendly. The staff were fun and helpful. The regulars cheery. I needed a late supper before heading back to hotel. If you want some ‘Soul Food’ more Suriname than Jamaican you could do a lot worse than visit this great find.

Eten is echt top als je van echt Surinaams eten houd, service is heel vriendelijk en ze komen regelmatig naar je tafel om te vragen of alles naar wensen is Gezellig sfeer met leuken mensen en goed muziek

Helaas van alles op. Niet heel erg want zo kom ik nog een keer terug. Rijst met pom en kip. Smaak goed, kip droog en weinig saus. Rijst was erg veel maar helaas geen saus. Volgend keer bel ik van tevoren. Till next time.

Ja, ik kom er graag. Bij elk bezoek aan de stad Amsterdam rij ik even langs. Bellen, ophalen en thuis lekker smullen. Suriname in Amsterdam. Er wordt gekookt zoals oma of mama......

Kip was taai en oud, totaal niet vers. 2 porties eten besteld voor bijna 30 euro, veels te duur en lage kwaliteit. Over de service ben ik ook niet te spreken, een of andere clown achter de toonbank zonder mondkapje/handschoenen en de kok werkt zonder handschoenen muts etc. Ik ben heel benieuwd hoe de keuken eruit ziet

Gerechten roti kipfilet en de zogenaamde moksa alesi met zoutvlees die al meer dan dagen oud was veel te taai en niet smakelijk en voor 24 euro wat ongelofelijk slecht!!! Dat deze slechte winkel nog bestaat!!! Deze toko mag zeker de naam niet dragen dat het lekker eten heeft.
