Very generous and delicious dish, pleasant and smiling service

You can eat really well here! Reservations aren't possible, so sometimes you have to wait a bit for a table. But don't let that stop you. The wait is absolutely worth it, and in the end, we didn't even have to wait that long. I even ate the nasi with dried fish here. And believe me: normally, you really wouldn't serve me dried fish. 😂 But here? Just incredibly delicious. To me, that pretty much says it all about the food. The staff is friendly, and you can see they are working hard. Despite the crowds, they keep going, and delicious food is served. For me, New King is one of those places where it ultimately just comes down to one thing: good food. And they know how to do that here! Definitely worth the wait and highly recommended.

New King is my favorite Chinese restaurant! I’ve been there dozens of times by now. Incredibly delicious. The Siukaw and wonton are highly recommended! Chinese Ice Tea to wash it down 🥂. Every time we try something different on the menu, but you simply can't ignore the fried Siukaw ;).

Horribly expensive!!! Relative to street food of such a low standard. Do not recommend at all. I left with a terrible stomach ache and a general bad feeling... I regret even going in. And the staff was not nice at all... and it took a long time for everything to arrive In short, don't even think about it. I didn't even take a picture because it wouldn't look good. Sorry

There's no reservation system for dining here, as it's always packed with customers. It's a first-come, first-served basis. That's pretty much it. The food is all delicious and incredibly appetizing, with generous portions that can be shared between two or three people. Come visit and see for yourself...👌👌👌

We tried the wonton soup and peking duck. I thought the broth of the soup was a bit plain, was not blown away. Also don’t think the prices make sense, if you want to order extra veggies it’s directly an additional +20 something euros. So so.

This Cantonese restaurant is located along Zeedijk (Seabank), Amsterdam's Chinatown. It's probably the best in this Chinatown. The shrimp wontons (dumplings) are especially huge, plump, and delicious. The noodles and soup are just okay, but I occasionally get an irresistible craving for them.

Sorry I'm not sure how I ended up only giving this restaurant one star because we've been to Amsterdam for the last 5 years in a row & discovered New King during our first visit, and since then have returned to eat there every year after that!! We love the atmosphere, staff friendliness and most of all the food, delicious, 💯 of the time!! We'll be back in Amsterdam again next year, and are already looking forward to dining in New King again!!

I'm speechless. The best Chinese food I've ever had. They put a spicy sauce in the center of the table that'll make your eyes water, but when you mix it with the pork, duck, fried rice, or noodles, it sharpens your senses. Everything was delicious. Truly.

I forgot to take a picture of the shrimp wonton soup, but the texture with plump, chewy shrimp was fantastic and the broth was flavorful too. Everything else we ordered was great as well.

Honestly, we didn't enjoy our meal at all. The tiny bones in my ramen soup were really unpleasant, and the mango sauce was incredibly artificial, almost like soda. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes based on the good reviews? The service was adequate, but the restaurant was far too dark.

We used to come here every week. The food was always excellent. Today, to put it bluntly, the food was simply not good. I had a mixed meat platter. And I love Peking duck. Today it was tasteless. The duck and pork had no flavor. My food was disappointing. And you pay 80 euros for that. My duck pancake tasted really awful. We left it and paid the bill. What a disappointing experience. I also mentioned that my food wasn't good today. But yeah, they don't do much about it.

We ate at the restaurant downstairs on the left. The food was fine, but unfortunately, the service was very poor. The lady who took our order was very rushed and came across as unfriendly. What I found particularly annoying was the way she treated my child. I really didn't like that. We ended up paying about €120 for two people. For that amount, I expect not only good food but also simply friendly and welcoming service. It is especially disappointing because my family has been coming here for over 35 years. That is precisely why this experience was so letdown. The food was good, but the hospitality and customer friendliness really need to be improved.

Reviewing Chinese restaurants in the Netherlands is tricky, because the standard for Asian cuisine in general, and Chinese food in particular, is pretty abysmal. That’s somewhat true of Europe as a whole, although there are exceptions. Madrid and London have relatively decent Chinese food. Of course, it varies by country and whether you're in a capital city or a regional area. So, I’m essentially offering two reviews - one for people used to the local standard, and another for people who come from places with a richer Chinese culinary scene. I'm from Sydney, where the Chinese food is not only great but also diverse, reflecting the many regional cuisines of China. I've been living in Amsterdam for over a decade & Chinese food across NL is stuck in the 80s. If we’re comparing New King to the general standard of Chinese restaurants in the Netherlands, it’s easily one of the best in the country. There's a reason this is one of my go-tos when I'm craving Chinese food. Most dishes are flavorful, and the ingredients are fresh. About 75% of the menu is consistently great, while about a quarter of the dishes are pretty 'meh'. So I always characterise this place as perfectly good, IF you know what to order. I particularly recommend the sui kao soup, any of the duck dishes (including duck pancakes), any of the dumpling noodle soups, fried eggplant, all salt & pepper dishes & all beef dishes. All of the starters are great to fine. The fried rice is about 3.5 to 4 stars, making it a passable side dish. I would avoid all of the chow mein & sweet & sour dishes. They're not bad, they're just not good. I have found the chicken dishes vary in quality from visit to visit, so I just don't bother ordering them anymore as there's plenty of other yummy stuff to order. Prawn & other shellfish dishes I've tried have been fresh & good quality, but I've never ordered a fish dish as I only order fish in restaurants that are consistently good across the board. The menu is huge so I haven't tried everything & there may well be other dishes which are great & others to avoid. Service wise, New King is top tier. The staff are always friendly & efficient. They're patient & kind with kids. Even though it's often busy, I’ve rarely waited more than about 15 minutes for a table. On average, it’s more like a 5 minute wait, and sometimes no wait at all. They open at 11, so get there before 11.50 for lunch & you'll rarely wait. Now, for those of us who come from places where Chinese cuisine is on another level, New King won't blow your mind, but it’s still a solid choice. If you’re craving Chinese food in Amsterdam, this is like a good neighborhood eatery. It's your local Chinese restaurant that does the trick on a Thursday night. It doesn't match top tier restaurants you’d find in your local Chinatown (or China), but it’s definitely one of the top two or three Chinese spots in Amsterdam. The only place that really surpasses it is Sea Palace, which is more expensive & definitely requires a booking. In the end, New King is a great choice if you want good Chinese food in Amsterdam at a fair price & with relatively easy access.

Good food and quick service. We didn't have a reservation but we're able to get a table right away on a Sunday evening. The portion sizes were very good. Do try the Chinese Iced Tea

This restaurant is fantastic! The staff is super nice, the food is fantastic, and the ambiance is good. I always love coming here and drive all the way from Den Helder specifically to eat at this restaurant. When it is busy, they usually have a table available within 20-30 minutes. They take your name, and in the meantime, you can take a short walk around to explore and admire Chinatown. Ordered a lot, and you can take home whatever is left over! 10/10 would recommend! This is my first visit and gonna be the last visit the Service was very rude we did not speak the Language in Netherlands so she nead to explain what what is. this is the first time we ever tried China food and the chairs were very sticky and there was no music at all like it was a funeral and the food was too salty we are never Coming back im sorry

Everything was well-organized, very communicative, and everything went quickly. We only waited 20 minutes during rush hour. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Each of the meats—chicken, duck, and beef—was tender, fresh, and perfectly presented. The atmosphere, like any Chinatown, is unmistakable. I highly recommend it!

I went to New King so so many many time before. But today is worst. I came at noon, the restaurant was very desolate, not crowded. I came for duck woth pancakes, but The DUCK is very dry, like cook 2 days before, even looked burned, you can see in the picture. The fried rice is good, and the eggplant is not tasty like before but for me it’s still 8/10.

The food was authentic with every spice just exact as expected, none compromised but ambience was utterly bad. The sitting arrangement was at the basement with no ventilation and a mix of smells from all foods made it suffocating.. waiters in rush breaking bottles and noisy atmosphere.

So I just asked Gemini, stupid Gemini suggested this one. The food was tasteless and expensive. Other Chinese restaurants I tried before were much better than this. It ruined my good experience with the restaurant here.

I can't understand the demand for this restaurant. Waiting time of 10-15 minutes. On the plus side, the service was quick. However, the food was disappointing. The fried noodles with shrimp were in an unidentifiable, slimy, tasteless sauce. The Peking duck meat was incredibly tender, but it didn't taste anything like duck. The food was good, but the portion for the price was rather small. Not an inexpensive place. Basically a small booth in elevated floor with narrow stairs.

No customer service whatsoever. I was told to go downstairs not greated by anyone, not told where to sit. Another customer came after me and waitress took his order before me. I was finished with my food before the other customer and he was given his ticket before me. I sat there for 20mins and finally started to walk out and then was given my bill. Horrible experience.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel and it delivered. We are Asians from Canada where we have amazing Chinese restaurants. This place had the best stuffed eggplant with fish paste I've ever had. Even my picky mother loved it. The wontons were good too. The prices were reasonable given that we're in Amsterdam and the dishes were quite big that we packed some leftovers. We went at 2 pm for lunch but I'm sure this place quickly fills up as there is seating on 3 floors. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a break from the traditional Dutch fare.

Tried to charge us €45 for half a duck + pancakes. I pointed out this was very expensive and he said he could do it for €25 if we had no pancakes! Charging €20 for spring onion, cucumber, pancakes and hoisin! Left and had the above for €25 a few doors down

The food was really good, had the sesame toast which had a lovely thick layer of prawns, the scallop which was beautiful flavour and the fried rice and peking duck. Only wished there was a sauce for the rice and duck. The food was hot, the staff were efficient, and the place had a good vibe.

My two boys and I came here because of the positive reviews. The service was unfriendly and uninspiring. We had two bottles of water in a plastic bag and were immediately told off for drinking them in the restaurant. Prices were reasonable (small beer €5). The chicken on the satay skewers was dry and tough. The dumplings were okay. For our main courses, we had Peking duck and BBQ pork. It's about time they replaced the shabby tables and chairs with something nicer. We had somehow expected more.

We absolutely cannot understand the 4.2-star rating. We were a group and ordered various appetizers and main courses to get a good impression of the food. Unfortunately, almost everything was a disappointment. It started with the appetizers (including fried wontons, deep-fried shrimp snacks, and dumplings): The fillings seemed artificial and were not very appealing. The shrimp filling, in particular, was anything but appetizing. The main courses didn't improve matters. The mango chicken tasted unusually artificial and had an unpleasant, almost perfumed aftertaste. The duck was also unsuccessful and disappointing in terms of flavor. The tofu was extremely dry and served practically without any sauce, making it almost inedible. The conclusion of our entire table: No one finished their food. For a restaurant where we paid an average of about €36 per person, this is a very bad sign. The service was okay – friendly and efficient – ​​but unfortunately, that couldn't compensate for the poor quality of the food. For us, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had in years. We wouldn't return and unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant. Anyone looking for good Chinese food should look elsewhere.

An excellent spot if you're in the Red Light District. The grilled meats are delicious, especially the Peking duck, which is spectacular. If you're looking for a tasty and affordable option, this is also the place for you. They serve dishes where you choose your base from various types of rice or pasta, and then select your grilled meat on top for €18. It's usually very busy, and it was a bit warm inside because we were there on some very hot days, but I highly recommend it.

My favourite Chinese restaurant In Amsterdam for roast duck and authentic Chinese dishes like eggplant tofu in black bean sauce. The portions are decent and fair for Europe. The service is a little slow but they are constantly occupied observed on my last visit around 1600hrs. I have been eating here for the past 10 years and am still impressed with their roast duck, crispy on the outside, fair amount of fat and tender meat.

Disappointing experience overall. The taste was just average and overrated, and the roasted duck was particularly disappointing. To make matters worse, one of the female servers (the chubbier lady) had a terrible attitude. The hygiene is also a major concern; the toilet was extremely dirty and had a broken lock. Definitely wouldn't recommend or return.

My friend said best sui kao in da world come and try if I visit Amsterdam! And here I am!!! 😆 I visited on a Monday noon. Got a table as soon as we entered. Friendly and quick service. Ordered the Sui Kao, eggplant stuffed and mix meat. Loved the duck and roasted pork- skin were crispy and meat was tender. Portion size were huge as well. And yesss i just found best sui kao in da world 😄 thin skin, huge filling, fresh shrimp, lite soup but tasty! Eggplant also guite impresive still got the crunchy while they pour the sauce in top of the dish Definetely will come back here if i visit again

Honestly way below expectations. The mixed meat was super one dimensional and had barely any salad or counterbalance to the meat. The servers were extremely cold and rude. All in all pretty bad.

Some of the food was really good, we had the fried rice with duck and the Kang Kung, both really good. The tofu with black bean was okay, as were the shrimp dumplings. The service was in my opinion okay, the lady who helped us was fast but really rude, which kind of tainted the experience.

The food was semi-edible, which, honestly, was already more than I expected. Visiting from Los Angeles, where “authenticity” is basically a survival requirement for restaurants, I came in with very modest expectations and was prepared to be forgiving. The real plot twist, however, was the water. Out of habit from dining in many places around the world, I assumed tap water would be complimentary. Our waitress even double-checked whether we wanted tap water, and we confirmed that we did. Somehow, this translated into two tiny glass bottles of water appearing at our table. When I saw the unexpected €8.50 charge on the bill, I politely asked the older lady at the checkout counter what it was for. Her response was not exactly Michelin-star hospitality: “Water! We do not have tap water!” No courtesy, no explanation, no customer service spirit—just pure bottled-water aggression. I had a lovely one-week stay in Amsterdam, and ironically, this was the only person who treated me poorly the entire trip. And I’m Chinese, so trust me, the irony of this happening at a Chinese restaurant operated by my fellow Chinese was not lost on me. New King, do better. At the very least, disclose the water situation before charging people €8.50 for a hydration ambush.

This time, I ordered fried noodles and Chinese buns. Both were delicious, and I'd like to try other menu items next time. The manager was friendly, and the wait time was smooth. On Saturday we had lunch at New King in Amsterdam’s Chinatown district, and honestly, it was such a pleasant experience from start to finish. We didn’t have a reservation, but we were immediately welcomed and seated without any issue. Since we were dining with a baby, we really appreciated that they had multiple high chairs available and seated us at a four-person table instead of squeezing us into a tiny corner somewhere. Anyone with a baby knows how important that extra space is. The restaurant itself is quite narrow, which is completely expected for downtown Amsterdam, but despite that, the atmosphere still felt comfortable and welcoming. The food came out incredibly fast and everything we ordered was genuinely very good. What really stood out to us though was the staff. Everyone was warm, friendly, and accommodating throughout the whole meal. Several staff members even played around with our baby and made us feel genuinely welcome instead of like an inconvenience, which sadly is not always the case when dining out with an infant. They also warmed our baby’s food for us without hesitation. Unlike other places that use the “industrial oven” excuse, the staff here clearly knew exactly what they were doing and warmed it perfectly, ready for the baby to eat immediately. The bathroom didn’t have a changing table, but again, the staff handled it so kindly. They offered us the bench area at the neighboring table so we could comfortably change the baby. Mind you, some staff members had actually been eating there themselves, but they immediately moved to another table so we could have the space. Overall, we felt genuinely welcomed here, the service was attentive without being overwhelming, and the food was excellent. Definitely one of the better dining experiences we had in Amsterdam.

I had wontons and duck noodles. I ordered the wontons after seeing reviews saying they were delicious, and they certainly were. The duck, however, had a slight duck smell. The tables are really close together, and the interior is a bit chaotic. Perhaps because the staff were busy, the atmosphere felt a bit tense.
