We're regulars at New King. The restaurant used to be good: the portions were large enough for the price, and the space wasn't too cramped. But now the quality has declined. Everything has changed, and not for the better. The portions are small and the contents are small, not in proportion to the high price. The kangkung dish is too salty.

Every time I go to Amsterdam, I make time to eat here. Here are some of my menu recommendations: Roast Duck Roast Pork Sweet Pork Casiu Yangchow Fried Rice Tested By Me….. But you have to eat here quickly because it's crowded and you can't eat at your leisure.

The amount of times I ordered these 2 just showed what loyalty means. Their suikau soup is just too good to be true! I always go to New King for my noodle soup. It's definitely the best of the bunch. The mixed grill, sweet and sour chicken is also highly recommended! Generous portions for a great price. The only minor drawback is that it's busy and they don't take reservations. So arrive early or you'll have to wait. (But it's definitely worth it.)

If you want a good meal but don't have much time, this is a great place to eat. Recommendations: duck rolls and the eggplant stuffed with shrimp! Fast and friendly service. A bit pricey, though.

The food was absolutely incredible! My partner and I stumbled in after walking Chinatown and looking at a few menus. I had the salt and pepper tofu and it was incredible. The beef dish my partner got was also great! It was in a brown sauce with peppers. I placed the rating lower because they charged us €15 euro PER bottle of water (we each had one, it was a few oz bottle). It’s not unusual to pay for bottled water by any means (they didn’t have tap) but for that cost we should have had anything else to drink. That was frustrating and almost as much as the items we ordered. I can’t rave enough about the food and the overall atmosphere. It’s cozy and warm on a chilly night! But drink beers or cola instead

This is probably one of the best Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam from what I can look up online. I decided to visit for dinner and while there was a little queueing, the wait was no too long. I ordered the fried rice with roasted duck, siew yoke and soy chicken. The fried rice was not the typical Chinese Yang Zhou style but more similar to nasi goreng popular in Southeast Asian countries. Nonetheless the flavors were good and the "wok hey" was present. What helped to catapult the fried rice was their chilli oil flakes which delivered a spicy aromatic punch. The roasted duck was just okay in my opinion but their siew yoke and soy chicken both turned out to be the highlights. I liked the thick chunks of siew yoke with crispy skin and I enjoyed the savory soy chicken. Overall a comforting dish when I needed to satisfy my Chinese food cravings.

The pork wonton with Chinese noodles is 10/10!! So is the mixed meat crispy duck, pork, and bbq beef. Everything was flavorful and comforting.

I've eaten there a few times before, or had takeaway, always delicious. This time I had 4 mixed meats and bami for takeaway. The bami was good, the duck tasted like liver, and the rest of the meat tasted much worse than I'm used to. And all that for a whopping 27 euros, disappointing.

We were not sure about making a reservation or not, thats why we wrote them on WhatsApp. Quick and clean answer telling us you DON‘T need to make a reservation. WHO comes first get to be served first. We want there on a tuesday night around 20:00 and in less than 5 min we got a table. Nice vibe and accurate service you can easily find in china town in NY or London. Delicious food! Go for the Wonton!

It looks like a place you could easily find in New York or London's Chinatown, very cute and charming. The staff was excellent, and without a reservation (you can't make reservations), we were able to get a seat without any problems (Tuesday evening around 8:00 PM). Everyone was also very helpful on WhatsApp for general information. The food was very good, and if you order the duck, make sure it's deboned :) It's worth the extra €2!

Visited yesterday during the rainy day. Friendly staffs, good foods and nice ambience. Love the wonton soup so much and fried hor fun... so yummy and energizing during these winter days..

I've worked down the street for 10 years and I often get the daily special for €13, as well as other dishes, and it's always fantastic. Eating there is always a treat. The owner, Rik, his family, and everyone who works there are knowledgeable about the products, create an experience, and know how to pamper you. Perfection ❤️

Visited on a Friday noon. Got a table as soon as we entered. Friendly and quick service. Ordered the rice and fried rice with roasted meat. Loved the duck and roasted pork- skin were crispy and meat was tender. Portion size were huge as well. Would recommend. One of the better Asian spots in Europe!

I just had dinner here and now sitting down on a metro from Amsterdam to Gein. I've been living here for more than 13 years. This is one of the best Asian (Chinese) restaurants in Amsterdam. The foods are tasty. Today's Saturday night and the restaurants was packed like the usual weekend. You must wait for minimum 30 mins. I am curious about why so many non-Asians go to the restaurant. Are they FOMO and just visiting it because it's recommended on Tourist guide book or some social medias? I am reading the worst reviews here and smile inside 😊. I just wanna tell you all (mostly non Asians or western born Asians), this restaurant is not for everyone. Maybe it's not for your taste. It's packed and narrow, you can't sit down for long time and enjoying meals. It's Asian restaurant, usually we go to restaurants just to eat, sometimes talk but not for long. I recommend you to local Dutch restaurants when you visit Amsterdam, why bother queue for long time and the taste of the foods that don't suit you.

Very disappointed, bad welcoming, desagreable waiters, tries to makes you pay bonless without telling you it +2.5 euros. No tape water, 4.5€ the 33cl water... Food was nice but nothing amazing. Single vegetable dish is 17.5€, same as meat and rice combo doesn't make sense.

Disaster! Never, never again Disappointing and overpriced – never again! We visited the New King Restaurant in Amsterdam with our family of six – unfortunately, it was a complete disaster. Charging €4.25 for a 0.2-liter glass of Coke is outrageous! The food was not tasty at all, was poorly prepared, and the service was unfriendly and irritable. We were looking forward to a pleasant family evening, but instead experienced only frustration and disappointment. Never again!

Excellent Chinese cuisine. I have been coming to this restaurant more than 10 years ago. It's just a pity that the prices have been increased 30 % +, the portions are quite . A Fanta 4.25€ a beer 5€.

Home away from home. Anybody looking for authentic chinese cantonese food and big portions please come here. It may be a bit pricey but the food is so sinfully good I didnt care about the bill. The blandest asian food I have ever tried, for az unreasonably high price. At least the quantity was nice, and the waiter was kind.

Solid if not spectacular. Dim sum platter for two is good, the sweet and sour chicken is decent. The highlight was definitely the peking duck pancakes, they use a roll similar to a malaysian paratha which is nice and flaky, very satifying bite. They refill your sweet chili which is nice. Be prepared to wait for a table here especially on busy days and hours, but it's a decent spot for the price in a great area

The food is always delicious, with well-seasoned meat. The service is excellent. Pickup is also quick if you call ahead; my order was ready in 10 minutes, and I only had to wait two minutes for it to be processed.

New king is one of Amsterdam's best Chinese spots. Located in the middle of what Amsterdam is known for you will find the Chinese equivalent of the Anne Frank House but less depressing. You'll be amazed what you'll find behind that narrow entrance. If you have to chose between the Anne Frank House and New King, go to New King.

After years of delicious food at this Chinese restaurant, we were deeply disappointed. Once we were seated, we had to wait a long time for the staff to come and chat with each other. It took over 12 minutes before we could place our order. My partner received her wonton soup first, and almost 15 minutes later, I received my other dishes. It was quite unusual for me to receive my Nasi, which was always delicious and clearly distinguishable, but this time I received a different Nasi, poorly mixed, tasteless, and of significantly reduced quality. The tenderloin in black pepper lacked much flavor. I've had better, but the portions were ample, but unfortunately, it was our last time. It's a shame the owner wasn't there, which was noticeable from the staff, who were more occupied with each other than with the customers. A bunch of Pokai people. Pahh pohhh 混蛋

Excellent restaurant. It’s crowded and tables are close to each other, but this adds to the charm. Service is very professional , I was waited on by a nice gentleman who was extremely courteous and spoke perfect English. The food is perfect.. the Duck was very tasty and so was the wonton soup. My friends joined later and got to sample many other dishes, all was good and authentic. Even though the restaurant is in the heart of the touristy area, it is a very very decent Chinese restaurant. It is not cheap at all, 40 euros for a quarter of a duck, a small Wonton soup and a bottle of water (the mark up on the water was very steep)

I always come here every time I go to Amsterdam. The food is delicious. All the food is delicious. The staff is friendly and it's clean.

New King was always my favorite. The wonton soup is still very good. But the other dishes weren't good. Such a shame. And the prices are outrageous. €13.00 for a wonton soup with 4 wontons. €4.50 for a Chinese iced tea. The kailan was tough. Tjaswu was also tough. The Peking duck was juicy and crispy, which was very good. The babi bacon was also very crispy. The service was very good and fast.

I keep on coming back to this restaurant every time I am in Amsterdam. Their food is amazing, aromas that take you out of this world. Their food atmosphere feels just right, the service is on point and the prices are to the standard. Will definitely return and totally recommend New King.

Good place if you want fast served good Chinese food. The servers are very efficient. The restaurant is very busy and tables are very close to each other. But you know that when you walk in. Food tasted good and they are not fussy when you want to take home leftovers. Drinks are bit on the expensive side though.

Who are these people that would rate this place as 5 stars? That is objectively insane! I went there based on reviews and desperation for some Asian food. I ordered their combo plate with wide flat noodles, roast duck and crispy pork. I also had the wings and shrimp dish. All of the dishes were just terrible. The noodle was gooey, overcooked and flavorless. They served it with boiled Napa cabbage that was probably meant for elderly people without teeth. The duck was so dry and salty. The crispy was also dry, fatty and salty. The shrimps were small and the sauce was super strange like they make it for people that do not know any better. The wings were super salty and greasy. I just hated the entires meal and resented all of the previous reviews for hyping up this ridiculous place. It’s fine if you don’t travel or ever been to Asia. I did not get food poisoning but certainly felt gross after the meal and the bill that came with it.
